Cannot Access Lenovo G500s BIOS.. please help

Q: Cannot Access Lenovo G500s BIOS.. please help

Hi all, I recently bought Lenovo G500s laptop. Initially it came with DOS. So, i took up partioning the HDD for installing Windows 7. So i changed the boot order to USB drive. Partioned my HDD and went on to install Win 7 through USB Disk. But now it says "Missing Operating System" and i cannot access the system BIOS using the Function keys. I guess, i had also messed up UEFI/Legacy settings in BIOS earlier. But now i cannot access the BIOS at all. Can anyone provide me solution to undo the same or reset the corrupt BIOS. Probably by uploading the G500s BIOS file, so that i can flash it in my laptop. Thanks for the help in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Cannot Access Lenovo G500s BIOS.. please help

hi starfire1801,

Welcome to the Forums.

During boot-up, if pressing Fn+F2 does allow you to access the BIOS, can you try to:
1. Remove the AC adapter and battery then press the power button for 20secs.
2. Reconnect the AC adapter and press the OneKey Recovery button. If a menu appears, choose BIOS Setup.
3. If you get the same problem, download a free copy of Windows 8 Enterprise (90day trial) and install it on the system. When you get Windows 8 up and running, try accessing theBIOs via the UEFI Firmware Settings.

Hope this helps

HI, Please skip to paragraph six for the actual issue I am having--the preceding paragraphs include info that may help to identify how to fix this. I am posting this using my HP desktop running Windows 7 as my Lenovo Ideapad 110 cannot connect to internet as explained below: Firstly, Sorry if I am breaking community guidelines in any way with this post. I did multiple searches but only came up with "forgot my BIOS password-how can I reset it" type posts. I am looking for urgent help to get back into the "BIOS" of my Lenovo IdeaPad 110 running preinstalled Windows 10. Everything was running fine until yesterday. This is when I made the mistake of thinking I knew more about the system than I actually seem to lol :/ So, yesterday--I entered the "BIOS" screen upon startup using F2 (function key+F2). I went on to disable wireless connection ability (to test something unrelated), and also switched Boot from strait UEFI boot mode to legacy/UEFI boot-with UEFI being the default boot option.  I don't know if any of the above have to do with the issue I am now having but I wanted to share it just in case. Here is the real issue as of now: Also yesterday at the same time while in "BIOS", I also went on to set an "admin password", the one you must type in before you can even get to the lenovo splash screen to enter "BIOS". Basically I believe this is referred to as a POST password although I am not an expert cleary (hence asking for the experts' he... Read more

A:Lenovo G500s FN key request

hi avernis,

Your problem migh be similar to this thread.

If you don't have the keyboard remapping feature in the BIOS, using an app called SharpKeys will allow you to switch function keys (i.e. Fn+F1 to a regular F1 key). I can't test this on the G500s as there's no available unit here in the lab but this tested and verified working on the Z400.

Give it a shot - Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 7 / XP / Vista (works also in Windows 8)

I've had my Lenovo since December 17, 2012, and have faced some issues before. I recently had the battery and the adapter replaced. A couple of weeks back, the laptop suddenly stopped charging. Here are the details :- Adapter was connected, and current supply was checked using a tester.- Battery was connected properly.- The power and charge light started to blink. I looked for a solution online, and almost everywhere the following steps were asked to be followed :- Shut down the laptop.- Disconnect the charger.- Take the battery out.- Press the power button for 12 sec (some said 15, some said 20-30) to ensure any residual charge is taken out.- Reconnect the charger (not the battery), and see if the laptop gets switched on on power. I followed the steps to no result. Naturally, I went to a service center, where I was informed that the Integrated Circuit on the motherboard was faulty and they'd have to replace it. I said okay, and got it repaired. This was a week ago. Now all of a sudden, the laptop is showing the similar traits. Charger is connected, but it won't charge. Again, the battery and the adapter are new and fully functional. Sometimes, when the adapter is connected, the two lights will blink and sometimes they won't, but the battery won't charge and now my laptop sits dead. What are my options?

A:Lenovo B570 (F2)NO BIOS ACCESS, no (F12) BOOT order Access

I have a circa Nov 2011 B570 that is now showing this problem.  It's out of the extended warranty as of Nov 14.History:  on Mon 3/16 while doing typing after a suspend I heard the awful "tink tink" similar to a HDD crash, got a blue screen and then nothing, just sat there for over 10 minutes trying to load the error data.  Powered off/on and now after PO and holding F2 it goes into the Please Wait .... with the blue task bar on the right at about 50% and nothing else happens.I removed the HDD and same symptoms.  Borrowed a known good 320G SATA drive from my son and same symptoms.  Disconn/reconn the BIOS battery on motherboard (I think that's what it is, small white plug accessable with large back HDD cover off near HDD compartment) no change. Tried the disconn and hold power button for 30 seconds shown in this forum, then reconn power and same symptoms.   I'm not going to pay for a new motherboard but it's frustrating a never-had-a-problem system goes "casters up" and isn't quite 3.5 yrs old.  Anyone got other ideas on what to try?  I do have both the recovery CD and a recent windows/system backup to a USB external drive if it turns out to be the HDD but I cannot get far enough to tell and am not enough of a PC expert to know how to force the way into setup or BIOS.

Hi, ive just upgraded my Lenovo G500s ram by swopping the stock 1x4gb stick with 2x8gb sticks (corsair vengence, 1866MHz, DDR3).

Problem ive is that the bios is only recognising 8gb instead of the 16gb it should be seeing...

I've tried removing 1 stick at a time to check if it's a bad stick or bad ram slot,  but then the bios is only reporting 4gb per stick.

Do I need to configure some settings somewhere?

Greatly appreciate any help.

I had bought Lenovo G500s laptop around 2 years back.It was working fine till now.Problem is whenever I start playing games on my laptop, charging light starts blinking red while still on charging.Does this mean there is some problem with the battery because it works fine normally but as soon as I do something that requires lot of CPU usage(load) it stops charging, battery status showing "Plugged in, not Charging".I am putting some points:  1. Should i I use my laptop in HIGH PERFORMANCE mode? 2. Has it something to do with the Nvidia GPU because i tried to run the game on intel integrated graphics it was lagging but charging didn't stop. 3. Good day One of my clients came to me with a laptop issue She hasa Lenovo G500S Touch laptop. It sometimes freezes at the Lenovo Bios Screen. She is running Windows 7 on it as she does not like Windows 8  Now it does not happen all the time but its frustrating to her as she is not tech minded and she just wants the thing to work.  Sometimes it starts up normally and sometimes it just hangs at the Lenovo screen. I have tried removing the battery (sometimes it works) , tried resesting the bios and disabling USB boot. I have also tried to remove the hard drive and check it in another PC and its fine. When it does start then its fine. it mostly happends when she moves the laptop around or puts it in a bag and takes it out again. There are no bios updates for the Lenovo G500S touch but only for the Lenovo G500S which does not work on the Laptop. Is there anything else we can try as she has spent so much money on this laptop trying to get it repaired as she does photo editing on it and I know the warranty has expired on the laptop and at that stage she did not take out extended warranty. Is the motherboard now defective ? Please advise as I have never seen this in my IT career and now I don't think I must recommend Lenovo PCs to my clients if they are going to give these issues. I have even cleaned the RAM Slots too Looking forward to help here. Regards Roger StaceRSCOMPUTER SERVICE AND RETAIL SOUTH AFRICA.

Without seeing the notebook myself I could only state that it sounds like a connection between main board and attached daughter boards in the case. Ribbon cable, connectors and such do come loose over time. The other things that could cause this would be damages from a drop or liquid spill... But without looking at it for such I could not be certain. CB

Hello This problem that I have is not a recently problem. It occured I think One and a half years ago for the first time. The laptop is never crashed in the three years that I have him and I'm running now Windows 8.1. Not switched yet to 10. Now the problem is getting more and more worse. So when I press the powerbutton nothing happens. It doesn't matter, I figured out, that the battery is plugged in or not or that the laptop is connected with the charger. Every time now that I want to start my laptop I need to press multiple times but not with a specific rhythm. Sometimes he will start when I press for a longer period (around 5 sec), sometimes not. So he is very inconsistance. Luckily I still manage to get him working every morning but i'm afraid that it will not lost for a long period.  Is it possible that I have a hardware problem and not a software problem?Could it be that my power button makes false contact or that it is just some dirt that got into it?Is there a way to start my laptop without using the power button? Please I need to get rid of this problem because I'm now on a exchange program in Finland for my thesis and I can't afford my laptop to not work anymore! I hope someone knows a solution but I searched on the internet with a similar problem but I didn't find anything. Kind regards David Bongartz

A:Lenovo G500s laptop will turn on only after a lot ...

Hi DavidBongartz ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As how you describe , seems issue would be more as a mechanical on the power button.
You can also turn on the PC using the novo button ( small key next to the power item 5 page4).
This would offer normal start up to boot on Windows.

Would there be a squishy or unnatural feel with the button ?
Aside from the power button , beneath it is a power board that is shared by the lenovo button.
So if both buttons would fail, it may be the power board that is involved (item 3 page 80).

Thinking of another option , specially if you are working on an important document, to keep the battery always charge is to set the power option to just sleep instead of turning it off.

Reminder : always back up your file on a separate location other than this pc like a cloud storage or an external storage for safe keep just in case.

Update us how it works for you.

Regards

I?m sorry to hear that the ODD (Optical Disc Drive) is not reading the DVD disc in your G500s Laptop eve after the latest drivers are updated, below are the steps to check and resolve this issue:

Ensure that the DVD you are inserting is in good condition.
Open device manager by clicking on Winkey+R key together, type devmgmt.msc in the Run window and select OK.

Example:

Now under ?DVD/CD-ROM drives? right click on it and select Un-install and then restart the computer to check the issue or scan for hardware changes. To scan for hardware changes, right-click the drive and select Scan for hardware changes.

*BACKSTORY - Skip down to the "Questions" section*It has been a year since I've purchased my Lenovo 15.6" G500s.Being a college student, I use this computer on a daily basis. One evening out of the blue, the computer shuts off a couple seconds after I unplugged the power cord and picked it up to move to another location in my apartment.  I assumed that the computer had gone into sleep mode and didn't try to turn it back on until I was settled down in my living room. However, the computer was shut off and wouldn't turn back on.  My first initial reaction was that my battery might have been out since I occasionally forget to plug in BOTH ends of the charging cord (I have a lot on my mind at times  ) So I returned to my room to plug my computer back in and tried to turn it on. Nothing happens. So I took out my battery and placed it back in again before trying to turn it on. Nothing. At this point, I was stumped so I checked my power cord, everything was fine then noticed that my LED lights weren't on yet the cord was plugged in. So I searched up solutions and I've tried everything I could find so far: 1) Secret Button Trick2) Removing the battery then putting it back in and turning it on3) Plugging the charger in4) Trying a different battery (which I ordered via Amazon)5) Removing HD and Ram and then placing it back in.  I haven't tried another charger yet but I'm prepared to accept that fact that my Moth... A:Lenovo G500s laptop won't turn on. (Multiple Quest...

hi itsbeccuhhere,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1.  Trying out another AC adapter would have isolated the possibility of a bad charger but since you mentioned that you purchased a different battery (which is normally factory pre-charged) and didn't worked, it's likely that there's an internal component that's malfunctioning.

2. Check this support phone list on how to go about getting the unit serviced.

3. If you're not missing any screws when you assembled the system back after you reset the HDD and RAM then it's likely that the stray silver screw that you found might have been loose from a different component. If you can't find the place to screw it back in place then I recommend you report it ASAP when contacting lenovo support to avoid any discrepancy on the warranty service.

4. It's always essential to backup important files before sending the machine for service. In your case, you may need to purchase a 2.5" SATA enclosure to convert the HDD to an external drive and make it readable on another PC.

I have a Lenovo G500s Touch computer that I bought at Best Buy in March. I noticed not long after I got it that my camera wasn't working with Skype. Not wanting to put DAYS into trying to figure it out, I waited until about a month ago to research what the problem was. (It is still under warranty) So this is about my 5th day spending most of the day trying to figure it out... nothing is working.

I have 8.1 and it can't even FIND my camera. HELP, Please.

A:Windows 8.1 can't detect Lenovo G500s Touch webcam HELP

Check Device Manager, to see if the camera is even showing in there with the driver installed. If it does not, go to Lenovo's Support site and download the correct driver for your device for the onboard camera.

A:lenovo g500s not booting on, power and battery light still on

Hi IRobby054,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500s Laptop is not turning ON and the indicators are still ON. I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power, below are the steps to perform the same:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

VG  Renegade23   ------------------------------------------------------  Hello everybody, my G500 is now getting a bit old, but nevertheless I like to use the notebook. Unfortunately, the fan has become quite loud under load. Now I would like to exchange this for a new one, of course, with the mounting lid it is very easy to take a look inside. When I took a closer look at the fan, I found that the fan had a bit more space and there were more holes to tighten it.That's why I asked myself the question if I probably. can install a more powerful fan. Would the fan fit in with the G500s, or would it fit with another model? For any tips or information, I would r... Read more

Windows 10 in not an option in the drop down menu to select my operating system. How do I know I have the latest updates?I also have a Lenovo 720ikb that came pre loaded with Windows 10, when I go to lenovos support page how do I know when I look at the list of downloads  available am  I suppose to pick all of them? I don't know which of these to download. Thanks in advance!

A:G500s how do I keep it up to date from lenovo's page when windows 10 it isn't listed as an option?

For Windows 10 use Lenovo Vantage to keep Lenovo drivers up to date for your 720 system.

For G500s it was not released with Windows 10 and is not on the supported system list.  I'm not saying Windows 10 wont work.  You just have to use drivers Microsoft releases.

My laptop suddenly stopped taking inputs from the TouchPad. The cursor was nowhere to be seen. I assumed that there's been an issue with the drivers maybe, considering I got the motherboard repaired today, and I rebooted my system. And now it's stuck in a loop. It starts, asks me for the HDD password, post that the windows logo comes on the screen, then it just goes black for a while and a message appears : Your PC has run into problems. We'll restart it for you. I've done it 10 times now, and I'm getting more and more frustrated with each passing moment and each reattempt! What can I do about this?

Attempting to restore the system to a week back. I hope this isn't due to the latest update released by Microsoft!

Hi, so I own a Lenovo G500s and everythings working fine yet I have two problems: 1) When i open the device manager it shows me 5 bluetooth peripheral devices that have a missing or wrongfully installed driver.Detais of the first device :Device Type : Other devicesManufacturer : unknownLocation : Microsoft Bluetooth ListHardware IDs:  BTHENUM\{0000111f-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb}_VID&0001000f_PID&0000                             BTHENUM\{0000111f-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb}_LOCALMFG&0045So I tried reinstalling the driver recommended from lenovo http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds035488 but nothing changed. Where can I find the missing drivers? 2) The second problem is probably related to the first.Everytime I start the laptop I get a usb device sound right after the startup even though I don't have anything plugged into the usb ports. So I'm guessing it's trying to connect to the peripheral devices... Did anyone here have the same problem or can help me solve this? Thank you in advance! Kind regards Jens

A:Lenovo G500s Bluetooth Peripheral Device Drivers missing

hi Jens,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your concerns:
1. From this link  that hardware ID is pointing to a Bluetooth Hands-free Audio Gateway by Broadcom.

Since you already installed the Bluetooth driver, can you try one of the following:
a. Navigate to the C:\Drivers\Bluetooth\Broadcom and run the setup.exe file to re-install the Broadcom Bluetooth Driver
b. Follow this guide on how to manually install the BTHENUM device driver (point the driver to the  C:\Drivers\Bluetooth\Broadcom folder).
c. Install the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software

2. If you have a bluetooth headset / speaker that was previously connected before, it's possible that these devices are automatically pairing themselves to the machine everytime you restart. Try to check if installing the Bluetooth driver in problem #1 resolves the issue.

Regards
