vaio laptop monitor issue

Q: vaio laptop monitor issue

heres kind of a complicated one. i have a sony vaio vgn-cs215j laptop and i closed it with my ipod in it so the screen broke. thats not really the problem, but it plays into the issue im having. i used a monitor with it for quite a while with no problems. the computer then started to restart immediately after logging in. i couldnt do anything to prevent this. i couldnt get it to start in safe mode or anything. a friend suggested that i try to get into sony's f10 system restore partition. so i tried that. i think it worked because the computer has stayed on, but it wont pickup the monitor so i cant see anything. so i have really no clue if the restore worked or not, im just assuming it did something to it since it doesnt shut off and restart anymore. i cant really tell if i am progressing beyond the login screen. from the broken screen i can see different colors immediately after i type in the pw but im not sure its working. does anyone know how to get the monitor to work without seeing anything on the screen. i have tried many times to turn it off and back on but it didnt help. i know the monitor works because i plugged it into a different computer.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need more desctop space so I've connected a Dell 1920x1080 monitor to my Vaio laptop to run as dual monitor together with the inbuilt 1280x800 screen. This works very well as a continuation of my desktop apart from a big problem with resolution:

In Vista's Display Setting I am given a choice of the following resolutions for the second monitor:

1280 x 800
1280 x1024
1360 x 768
1680 x 1059

(plus many more smaller ones).

None of these are the same as the monitor size (which is 1920x1080), so when I select, say, 1680x1059 (the highest) from Vista's choice the picture spreads these 1680x1059 pixels evenly out over the whole monitor screen which has approx. 20% more pixels and is not even the same format. The result is a hopelessly blurred picture which is also strecthed out (from ratio 8:5 to 16:9). Can you imagine? It is impossible to do any graphic work when circles are oval shaped, square shapes look rectangular and you are not quite sure on which where the lines are.

How can I get the same perfect resolution on the big screen as on the laptop screen?

A:Dual Monitor from my Vaio laptop

What graphics chip is on the Vaio? If it's either an ATI or Nvidia, you should check to see if you have the latest drivers for it.

You should be able to specify the secondary monitors (the 24") resolution in the cards control panel:
ie Catalyst Control Center for ATI > Display Manager or the Nvidia Control Panel for Nvidia.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop (PCG-FX340) that's about 3 years old running Windows XP Home edition. I leave it on most of the time with a 10 minute sleep on it. It was working fine through last night. When I tried to use it this morning, the display is blank. I have an external monitor hooked up now while I am troubleshooting this. I am pretty sure that the LCD back light bulb has not burned out as when I attempt to switch between the external monitor and the laptop monitor, it flickers once, then goes black again. The laptop has not been dropped or otherwise messed with since it last worked. I have tried to adjust the brightness with no success. When it is booting, I don't see any of the DOS activity either. Any thoughts?

Well the backlight is going dim on the 15" LCD screen on our Sony Vaio PCG-FXA32. I have been using a 17" CRT as a 2nd monitor on it in dual screen mode for a year or so. Decided to try to clean up desk space and only run a 17" Samsung 172N LCD on it and disable the built in screen. But with that Samsung 172N, I have had to install it with the CD in all my workstations (we have a bunch of them). SO I tried to install the Monitor .inf files in safe mode and normal mode . But the machine will not install the CD, tells me there is an error. The Laptop has been cleaned out of all the Sony garbage, and reformatted and XP Pro installed, with just the Sony drivers needed to operate it, like the ATI Rage Mobility drivers, etc. It runs great xcept for this issue. I will get the 15" screen fixed soon but still intend to run a 2nd monitor on it, guess I have become spoiled with multimonitors forver now.

I can't just hook up the Monitor and let Win try to find drivers for it because it will be a blank screen and can't see in the built in screen to navigate menus.

Anyone have any ideas how to get this accomplished?

Hi,
I don't remember changing anything, only added a pic to my desktop. Now when I open a browser window (IE) things are all alittle bigger. Going to Google (my home page ), it doesn't fit completely into the browser window. All fonts on the desktop appear normal, however, the right most column of icons, has shifted away towards the middle of the screen by about an inch.
Coming here looks out of wack too. The logon boxes are more towards the middle of the page instead of more to the right like usual for me.
Any help would be appreciated.

PS. It seems that only web pages are out of whack, they don't fit anymore. The Google issue went away after I cleared internet stuff etc with ATF Cleaner. But this site's page still doesn't fit, as well as all other web pages. Spreadsheets and folders opened up on the laptop appear fine. Thanks

Hey,i would really like some help with a strange issue i'm having. The laptop is SVS1513z9e (Support for SVS1513Z9E | Sony) after a simple restart where no changed were made and no programs were added i plug my headphones in the jack and the audio is still coming from the internal speakers, like it's not recognising the jack.Any advice will be helpfull because after two days of googling i found nothing helpfull. From sony's site i confirmed that it had a realtek chip,so that would mean that realtek hd audio manager would be responsible about the jacks, but realtek hd audio manager is nowhere to be found on my computer.Laptop was shiped with windows 8 but it's 8.1 now if that makes any difference.Eager to hear from you people.

EDIT:Forgot to mention that i tried unistlaling realtek drivers then installing the latest realtek drivers from realtek's site and also the drivers from sony's site but with no success.

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

Question from my boss to anyone who has any advice....

"Got a Dell Latitude C600 that has worked most excellent for the past year (bought it used/rebuilt on ebay). So am working on the laptop and get a virus ... net result ... I had to format C. Ultimately, after putting the OS back on (XP) I can get the laptop to work via the dell docking station with an external monitor. But I can not get the laptop's screen to work when it is out of the docking station. I have tried to utilize the function key to switch between screen views but that does not bring the screen up. I tried reloading xp and that didn't help - I am bummed.

So when the laptop is docked, the external monitor (and everything else) works fine.

When the laptop is undocked, the screen works in that it does work in that I can change things by interupting the loading of windows (clock speed, which drive fires up first, etc.). When I power up the laptop (undocked) the windows page pops ups and then dissapears as xp kicks in and then the screen goes blank/black and stays empty. If I put my nose to the screen and stare at it in direct sunlight, I can just faintly/barely see the monitor is working. So I think that all is in order ... but ... why in the hell is the contrast ratio (or whatever) so low that I can't see it.

The laptop originally had an LG Active Matrix screen but in the process of refurbishing the unit (the rebuilder) used a samsung screen.

When starting up the screen flashes the Toshiba logo and bios entry, etc, then the windows 10 logo and a few seconds of the blue dot wheel spinning before the screen goes black with no cursor. If I close the lid putting the laptop to sleep then open it the screen and laptop work fine til I restart again.
When connected to a different monitor during start up the laptop is working fine even while it's a black screen on the laptops screen.
The screen loads fine in safe mode as well.

Hey guys, I'm currently using an Acer Aspire One d250 netbook. I was lying down watching a show while it slightly tipped and hit its monitor on the side of my bed post, it wasn't a hard hit. Immediately the screen went blank. Now the issue isn't the black screen (which seems to be an issue with this netbook) but rather the display works but it's incredibly dark. It's at the point where I need to tilt it directly into the light to even see where the mouse is moving. I downloaded BIOS and tried to reinstall it but it's still the same way. My question is simply what is the issue? Are there loose wires or something and is this an easy fix? Cheers.

Hi,

I have an issue with HP Pavilion Dv9000 laptop monitor. I need your expertise in diagnosing the issue so I can attempt to fix it.

It started one day when I connected the laptop to my tv via hdmi cable, which I had done several times previously, all of a sudden the display disappeared. I re-booted and still nothing. I connected to an external monitor and managed to see it booting, however even the display on the external monitor disappeared when it was about to load windows, very strange. (I'm using Vista btw, don't think it matters). So, I was able to boot into safe mode using external monitor and messed around there with display settings and system restores and then got display working on laptop for initial boot options up to point where it launched windows. Eventually, I got it back 100% again.

This happened about 2 weeks ago and I thought all was ok, but then it started happening more frequently purely random. Same symptoms as above, had to boot into safe using external monitor, could see initial boot\bios options on laptop sometimes, then disappear. Screen would never go when I had it working, would only not work if I re-booted or if I turned on first thing in the morning, could do several re-boots in the day, sometimes I could see display on laptop monitor, sometimes not without changing anything

Eventually got very fed up and re-installed Vista prob knowing that it wouldn't make a difference, it didn't it made things worse, can't see dis... Read more

So my boyfriend and I both have the same Asus N90SV series laptop. We both have had major issues with our screens, which both turn grey with horizontal lines. I don't think it is related to the motherboard, as I am using an external monitor without any problem. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the video card overheating, as we have tried a laptop cooler and it didn't solve the problem.

The only thing that helped at all, and it only helped my boyfriend's laptop, was to clean out the dust from inside. But, when he did that he also made sure the video card drivers were updated. When he did those two things, his laptop was much better for several months, but the problem came back. We have tried cleaning the dust and updating again, to no avail.

The worst part is that it seems so utterly random. Almost all day today my boyfriend hasn't had it happen, and then for 10 minutes or so it kept happening. Now it hasn't happened in half an hour. Oh, and I forgot to mention how we "fix" the problem. Opening and closing the laptop eventually helps my boyfriend's. That used to fix mine, but, as I mentioned earlier, I gave up and got an external monitor.

All I got from Asus is that this is a known problem, but not prevalent enough to do anything for us. I was quite disappointed that it seems we just ended up with crappy merchandise.

So, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what else we could try? I have thought it could be a loose ... Read more

I have a Toshiba Tecra S3 laptop, running Windows XP Pro Sp2. When I plug in an external monitor, the laptop automatically starts up with the external monitor as the primary display and I can then go into settings and extend the display to the laptop screen. All fine so far. However, what I want to do is to play video on the external monitor and have other applications such as web browser on the laptop screen. However, no matter what I try, I cannot get this to work.

I can play the video on the laptop screen and other programs can be viewed on the external monitor, but I don't want that. The reason for the external screen is so that I can view video at better quality than the laptop screen will give me.

If I move the video window to the external monitor it goes there OK, but the video continues to play in full screen mode on the laptop screen as well. If I try to move other application windows to the laptop screen, the full screen video stays on top and the other windows cannot be accessed. There are no video controls accessible from the laptop screen, only from the video software on the external screen.

Can anyone tell me what I have to do to have the video only play on the external monitor, and have the laptop screen available for other things? The video software I have been using is VLC and Windows Media Player.

I bought a 2nd hand VAIO model PCG-NV190. When I got it, it was with the understanding the back of the screen was busted and the hinges needed replacing. Well after obtaining parts and procrastinating at tad bit more....well, eventually the hard drive died. I decided to upgrade memory, hard drive and do the repairs in one swoop. Before I took it apart the monitor was working....gave me the infamous "no operating system installed". Well, I'd not think twice about tearing apart a PC...this was my first laptop venture. When I got into the case and started examining the new territory. I come to the realization that the hinges are going to require disassembling half the computer. I know, should have taken it to a shop for repairs. I get the hinges in...no left over parts or screws....everything fits as it did originally. Charge the laptop back up, turn it on....monitor is pitch black. I tried to hook it up to an external monitor - doesn't even "wake" the monitor. I notice that I have pinched the LCD Harnass (Sony p/n 1-961-756-12) with the LCD bezel. I take it apart again (making sure I didn't leave something unhooked and properly retaining the LCD cable). I think perhaps I "openned" a wire in the harnass, but would this keep the external monitor from displaying. Insight would be helpful....comments about "next time take it to a professional" not so much. Thanks

I recently got a 24" 1920 x 1080 external LCD monitor for my laptop. It's awesome. I've been using laptops only for many years and now I'm very sorry I waited so long before getting one. But, on to my issue:

I want to only use the external monitor and keep the laptop screen turned off. The problem is that when I resume from sleep sometimes, but not always, the laptop display comes back on showing only the desktop wallpaper. So I then have to hit the windows key plus "p" (for projector) and select projector to get the laptop display turned off again.

I know how to select the external monitor in W7. Basically, one goes to screen resolution from the desktop right click context menu and make the proper selection under multiple monitors (see screenshot below).

But windows 7 seems to forget this setting sometimes and it's a mild annoyance to have to check the laptop monitor and if it's on, hit the windows key plus "p" each time (or almost each time).

So I'm wondering if there's some way to force windows 7 to remember to use only the external monitor and keep the laptop monitor off until I tell it otherwise? I suppose this issue is likely due to some bug in one of my drivers but I am using all the latest drivers.

A:Issue w. laptop & external monitor

Why not just keep the laptop lid closed? The external monitor will display, and your laptop display will be turned off. OR, are you using the keyboard and touch pad on the laptop? If that's the case, do yourself a favor and get a full size keyboard and mouse, and plug it into the laptop, push the laptop off to the side, and keep the lid closed. Alternately, you could invest in a docking station so you don't have to plug everything in each time. That's what I do at work.

I recently purchased an external monitor (BenQ EW2740L) for use with a PS4 console, however I thought I would try to connect it to my Laptop (ASUS N550JV - Running windows 8). I was trying to connect the two with a HDMI cable as my laptop doesn't have ports to fit the supplied D-Sub cable. Long story short, My computer detected and installed the monitor but im presented with a black screen and the monitor gives the message "No Cable connected". I've tried the Fn + F8 option of projecting to a second screen however no luck.
Also my Computer and the monitor both have a native contrast of 1920x1080 if that helps.

Hey everyone, I'm having this problem with Dota 2 and Diablo III. Whenever I connect my approximately 15" laptop to my 24" monitor using an HDMI cable, it forces me to use a lower resolution in order for the game to not be laggy. When I use my laptop by itself, it can support the highest resolution which is like 1324 x 1024 or something like that, in addition to all the highest settings (except shadow), and the game looks perfect. However, when I connect it to my monitor, there are many more resolutions to choose from, the highest being 1924 x 1000 or something, but when I choose this resolution the game LOOKS like it does when I just use my laptop at the 1324 x 1024 (or something close to that) resolution but it plays much much slower and forces me to use a lower resolution such as 1024 x 800 in order for it to be playable at the cost of graphics. I'm just wondering because when I play other games on my laptop that's hooked up to my monitor the games I play look the exact same on the monitor as they do on the laptop and I'm not forced to use a lower resolution, such as HoN. But when I play dota 2 and Diablo 3, the graphics become shittier on my monitor because I am forced to use a lower resolution. I don't need or want a higher resolution supported by my monitor if using it only makes the game laggy and unplayable, I'd rather use the lower resolution of my laptop with the perfect graphics and have it displayed in that exact way onto the monitor, which is what happe... Flangdoogler, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The full make and model of your laptop would help, as then we could see what it has for graphics in it (GPU). Depending on what it is it is likely that you answered your own question,

Or is that I simply cannot have the same graphics displayed on my laptop (15") be copied exactly onto my monitor (24") due to graphics card reasons?

If the graphics card in the laptop isn't up to running it at high settings and resolution, then one or the other has to be lowered (and most time both) to get the game to be playable.

On My Gateway, it is f4. On my older Toshiba it was f5.
According to your owner's handbook:rolleyes:, your switch is f7. :grinthumb
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/VGNS400-T300series.pdf
Most laptops I have seen also have a little symbol on the various function keys that will give a hint regarding its function.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop with wifi support that is inbuilt or onboard. I already have a Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard at my home with ram 2 gb, 9800 gtx card and a quad core processor. Now, I connect this pc with a broadband connection at home running 1mbps speed. This motherboard also has a wifi onboard connection. What I am trying to do is setup this wifi connection so that my laptop can also connect to the internet wirelessly. For this I have installed the wifi driver of Asus (something called Asus WiFi-AP @n software) and configured it with giving it a proper connection name and a password. I have successfully done all the wifi network setup wizard on the pc and it is working well. Now the problem is that, my laptop is able to find this wifi connection but after sometime it gives an error saying to troubleshoot network connection and the wifi network disappears from the laptop and again i have to search for this wifi network and the cycle continues. Similarly, when I am trying to connect my Nokia e90 mobile phone with the pc via wifi, my phone is able to pickup the wifi connection and sometimes it is able to connect to the internet and I am also able to browse different websites but sometimes it gives me a gateway time out error. So, can anyone tell me how can i connect my sony vaio laptop to the internet wirelessly by using the Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n connection? Also if possible, then please let me know how to connect my phone as well, which i... Read more

Hi
How do I clean my Sony Vaio X-Black display? It has a lot of dust and smudges on it so I want to make sure that I do not scratch it.

Whats the best product to buy and how do I apply it?

Thanks

A:cleaning sony vaio x-black monitor

Use an old soft cotton T-shirt slightly repeat slightly dampened with plain water. do not use anything like Windex or glass plus on it. If the smudges are stubborn, you can mak a mixture of about 5 parts water to 1 part vinegar to dampen the cloth slightly.

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

A:Monitor Issues - Laptop Reading Built In Monitor as if it were my external monitor.

Only thing I can think of is to disconnnect the external monitor, uninstall any monitors listed and then reboot and hope the computer installs the correct drivers for the laptop monitor.

I downgraded my Sony VAIO from Vista to XP. Recently I reinstalled Windows 7 and everything went very well except for my video. I have an external monitor but the VAIO on Windows 7 would not recognize it. Trying Fn F7 or Win-P the monitor would not switch. To resolve the issue I downloaded the Vista NVIDIA Driver and that fixed my problem.

A:sony Vaio/win7 Starter/External monitor?

You can't extend the desktop with the Starter Edition. It's a software limitation that can't be bypassed. As far as I can tell, your only options are to go back to XP, upgrade to Windows 7 Home Basic or use Linux instead.

Hello,
I have owned my Vaio laptop for 2 years now and recently the driver for my Sony Optiarc 7560S DVD RW has stopped reading discs. Sometimes it will pull up the autorun but that is maybe 10% of the time. I was looking at the Driver Whiz program but saw someone from this site say it was not worth its weight in gigabytes so I am here to see what you guys and gals know. Please help...

The drivers for these devices are native to Windows.Sometimes there are firmware updates, but your problem is more likely to be mechanical.

Hi,

My Vaio CR 24G came inbuilt with Vista, but since I needed to install Oracle on it, had to downgrade to XP sp2. But the vga controller seems to have an issue. When I was reinstalling the drivers it gave me an error, and now I am unable to connect my laptop to any projector, and even on connecting the S-Video, it fails to install the drivers for it.

Help required urgently

Thanks

A:XP SP2 on Vaio, VGA controller issue

Welcome to TSF....

Since windows was installed the thing that has to be done is to install all of the special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others for windows xp, they can be installed in any order you wish and can be found on the manufacturers web site for either the motherboard or the manufacturer of the computers web site. You can download these drivers and burn to a CD-R and then install those following instructions to reboot when asked. One thing if you can not find or the drivers are not made then you will have to return to vista for an operating system.

Hi.
I have Sony VAIO VPCEB33FM laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OA 64 bit here. It belongs to my friend. It got infected with Pc performance & stability analysis report virus. He took it to the store where he bought it and was told that it would be $ 400 to fix it (laptop is not even 1 year old so it seemed like a lot of money). I offered to help since I got rid of several Trojans, malicious soft. etc with success before. Because there are no important documents I wanted to reinstall OS from 3 recovery discs - created by Geeksquad that came with laptop. 1st dvd worked, PC asked for 2nd dvd. I put in the drive, hear it spinning and then it spits it out. Tried several times, even tried dvd 3 of 3 thinking they might have wrote #2 on #3 disc and #3 on #2. Didn't help. I restarted computer. Vaio logo comes on, black screen says OS not found. I restared again and as soon as VAIO logo came on I used F10 to load Vaio Care Rescue. Enter. Starting Windows screen etc... Started Recovery vizard, skipped data rescue, started recovery. Computer shows Formatting to 2% and Error: 320 message operation was not completed comes on. In hardware diagnostics checked check and repair HD. No errors were detected in 2 hours scan, also quick test result: HD and CPU work normally, no errors detected on this VAIO computer. I tried install again and selected Factory condition. Result: same 320 error. Went to option #2 Custom recovery resize C: and create D: - error 320 again. Went to option 3 - C... Read more

A:Sony Vaio issue - please help

Welcome to Seven Forums entusiast!

To answer your question, you can use a retail Windows 7 DVD and install doing a full clean install using the Key from the laptop's OEM sticker. The same DVD will allow you to boot into the repair options as well.

If you can still boot into Windows you may try removing the infection first. See my sig for links to MalwareBytes Free and Super AntiSpyware. download, update and do full scans with each one.
This page points to a hardware failure with error 320 during install.

First let me thank you for helping in advance. I have a VAIO laptop that had a virus/worm/whatever. Installed and ran a couple of free antivirus programs and resolved some of the issue's but not all. The problem was that my desktop disappeared and task manager was disabled. I have since recovered most of the desktop and enabled task manager. The problem is that I have lost "my computer" and when I bring up the program listings through start, the subfolders or tree's or whatever they are called, all show empty.

Another issue, not sure if it is related, it that internet explorer opens up randomly and I am getting a lot of IE explorer error messages. With that said, I mostly use Safari to browse with.

Some info on the computer is Sony Vaio laptop. Running windows xp, scanned with Malwarebytes, Super antispyware, and Mcafee. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a novice so I might require some walking through.

Let me know what other info would help.

HiI just bought few days before an LCD monitor acer G206HQL , i tried the first time to connect it into Sony Vaio notebook with vga cable (both of them). The monitor monitor wrrote "no signal" , i tried to fix the problem go to preferences, changing the resolution of the second screen, set the mode for external monitor, but nothing. The second time i tried to connect the notebook with HDMI and monitor with vga, but again nothing, the monitor wrote cable not connected. I went to the graphic card settings and it spotted the monitor, but it doesn't recognise it. It writes "uknown". Please can you help me fix this problem?

A:Problem connecting Sony Vaio with Acer monitor G206HQL

You can "ONLY" use one cable at a time to connect a monitor to a laptop. The suggested method is using an HDMI cable, just because it's simpler to use. Next thing to look at is if the laptop has the capabilities to use an external monitor; you'll need to check the laptop manual for that. If it does, then you need to check the default settings under playback devices. You can check this by right clicking the sound icon, then select playback devices....make sure you have the monitor connected when doing this...then you should see the external monitor.

Hi,

I bought a new tablet PC

sony vaio ux 180p
Os: Vista business 32 bit
ram:1014 mb
processor: intel(r) core (TM) solo cpu 1.33 Ghz
graphics: mobile intel (R) 945 gm express chipset family

I connected my tablet pc to a regular external desktop monitor
using VGA cord.

HCL
OS: Win xp SP 2
intel(R) premium (R) 4 cpu 1.50 ghz
display: plug and play intel(r) 82845G/GL

Siince vista did not recognize the output device automatically as soon as it was connected, Using the "Windows Mobility Center" application I clicked
the "connect display" button but happened. It showed "display connected" and "connected". but nothing came up on monitor.

I clicked on the "connect display" button again from the Windows
Mobility Center -> Detecting -> pop up options for "how do you want to
use the external display" again. I was provided with three options
1. External display only
2. Mirrored.
3. Extend to external display.

Tried all the three options but nothing happened. So i am trying to figure this thing out. Is it something to do with drivers. I dunno. I am trying to figure this thing out. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Sony vaio ux180p vista does not detect external monitor

there is a possibility that the monitor also needs a driver. you can check by typing device manager in search. go to the display tab and make sure there is you video card and external monitor. The monitor needs to be connected at the time.

I am having a strange issue with a Sony netbook (VPCM12M1E) in that the keyboard seems to have a mind of its own, it used to be an intermittent issue but is more prevalent now. The issue is that if I try to type it enters the letters in capitals, if I press CapsLock it goes back to lower case letters. If I use the numbers, ie. 1234567890 they come out as !"$%^&*(), whatever I do with CapsLock or NumLock. If I try \,./ I get |<>? However if I boot into safe mode it all seems to work fine.
So far I have restored back to factory, reloaded the drivers for the keyboard and pulled my hair out and there isn't too much left now. Have any of you guys any words of wisdom for me
