T530 Quad Core + Thinkpad 4337 Mini Dock Series 3?

Q: T530 Quad Core + Thinkpad 4337 Mini Dock Series 3?

I have a Lenovo Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 docking station with a 90W AC adapter: P/N 75Y5732FRU P/N 75Y5733S/N M3-B9XDV Acccording to the Docks, Port Replicator, Ultrabase - Reference Guide (*) a T530 Quad Core is not supported with the Lenovo Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 docking station while, according to (*) the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W is supported - though T530 is not mentioned on the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W - Overview and Service Parts page. When comparing the Overview and Service Parts page of both docks: ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 - 90W and ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W it seems the only difference is the AC adapter, number of video ports and an eSATA connector. 1) Is this correct? 2) If so, can a T530 Quad Core be used on a Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 with a 170W (or 135W) AC adapter (instead of the 90W AC adapter)? 3) As the 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 is supported with a Thinkpad X220, is there any objection against docking using a 170W AC (or 135W) adapter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have a user with a T530 and a Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U). She has a single monitor conected via VGA. When she presses the button on the dock, it does not detect her monitor. I have been able to fix this in the past by enabling the Optimus graphics in the BIOS but in this case, that is not working. I have searched the Lenovo site for dock firmware updates but am not finding anything. Any help or links to the firmware would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,I am using both a T530 and a W530 and also have a Thinkpad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (the one with eSATA port). I would like to use both ThinkPads with the same docking station (of course not both at the same time ) and therefore have a 170W power supply (from the W530) connected to it. The problem is that the T530 does not recognize the 170W power supply and is running on battery only without having the docking station ports enabled. Its working fine though if I change to the original 135W power supply of the T530, but this one does not work with the W530. From my point of view a higher wattage should not be a problem, does anyone know why the 170W power supply does not work with the T530?

I have a Thinkpad T430 type 23474W4 and a Thinkpad mini dock series 3 type 4338-15U. I already have a Lenovo LEN LS2223wC monitor hooked up to it through one of the DVI ports. I have a a Lenovo LT1952p Monitor that I would like to use as a second external monitor. Both monitors work individually through either DVI or VGA. However, I can't get them to both work at the same time no matter what configuration I use. I was told they didn't have to be identical monitors to work together. What am I doing wrong?

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

Hello, I am happy with my T520 - i7 Quad core andI would like to buy a docking station for home. I am going to connect only one monitor to this dock. I understand the differencies between 4337 and 4338 models, but actually I use 4337 dock with two monitors and 90 W adapter from one year and I have no problems. After readigng ThinkWiki and some posts I understand that I have to use 4338 model. Unless it is working I am okay, but I am confused about the preformance. Do you guys think that there may be issues with performance  doe to the lower than recommended power supplying. Thank you!

Mock me if you like, , but...  Figured I would share, so others might benefit? There are a few flavours of AC Power issue out there (some bad 170W Power Supplies, some Lenovo Battery Manager issues, etc.), but if you are greeted with the warning on your W520, and are using a true 170W Power Supply, stop and check the Power Supply plug connection IN to the dock. I know sounds ridiculous, but...  First, given the slotted construction of the 170W Power Supply connector, NEVER force anything!  But, once you've lined that up, are sure and slid it in to the dock, at that point, make SURE that it's really fully seated in to the connector!  PUSH it to ensure! I've been having the issue, and finally realized, on my setup, there is an extra "hump" you have to push the connector past. (How long have I had this machine?  FACEPALM!)  If you plug it in, it will work, but give errors and be problematic on charging.  Once you FULLY plug it in, that problem goes away. I think it's a function of the middle pin not being fully and properly seated - so a test was failing (making it think it was a 90W supply?). And a PS for folks: The original dock for the W520 was the "4338-30U (eSATA)", 170W. I can report that the "4338-35U (USB 3.0)", 170W DOES in fact work with the W520. Sadly (as I expected), no, you don't get another USB 3.0 port on the back of the dock.  It de-rates to a USB 2.0 port, but that port does work -... Hello! Im having a little problem with my docking station. ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3. Seems like the DisplayPort does not work. I use dual 1440p monitors from Phillips and want to connect both with DP as the DVI is single-link only. I have one of the monitors plugged in the MiniDP on the side of T430 so i got that working wich is nice.  Is there some kind of firmware or something i need to install to get the DP working on the docking station? Cant remember i have ever done this and as far as i know it ha never worked... Always used it with a single 24" monitor with VGA. Thanks.

This issue is driving me crazy!  I bought new DisplayPort Monitors for T430s ThinkPads using the Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I have 4 identical laptops.  Same software and drivers with two Monitors.  One on the Dock DisplayPort and the other Monitor on the PC Mini DisplayPort.   Three laptops work perfectly.  The forth one blinks! I do have a newer T430s with the Invidia Graphics card that has the same symptoms, but I have come to the conclusion that Lenovo does not support multiple monitors with that version.  Lenovo, Please tell me there is a firmware update for the Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I saw the link for the T540 dock firmware update.  Will it work on the Series 3 dock?

Battery icon says "Plugged in, Charging" but i can see the battery percentage slowly draining. Usb ports, power button on the dock, secondary monitor and everything else seems to be working just fine. Laptop Charges just fine when "undocked". I initially thought it was a bad battery so i purchased a brand new genuine lenovo battery and still the same. Did an online search and cant find a solution to the problem. This all happened after I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64. Anyone know a solution? im all out of ideas.

The ThinkPad Multiple Monitor Configurations pdf (LINK) says the DVI port  on thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 only support up to 1920x1200, but I would like to connect the DVI-D port to a external monitor with 2560x1600 resolution.  Will it work?  I am planning to buy a T420 with a discrete Nvidia Optimus video card and a mini dock series 3.  Yes, I can't use the display port because the external monitor only have DVI-D port.  I knew that the DVI-D port is able to support 2560x1600 resolution as long as the video card support it, I don't understand why the DVI-D port on the thinkpad mini dock series 3 can only support  up to 1920x1200 even though the Nvidia Optimus Technology is powful enough. Have been happily running windows 10 - with dual monitors, but since a recent update, the system once re-docked will no longer re-detect that it using different monitors. Previously i could use it:1. Un-docked - at 1600 x 9002. then when i put it to sleep3. Then dock it and resumed:     it would     a) switch to 1920 x 1080, and     b) also detect and display on the second monitor - no intervention required. Now, it remains in it's prior "state" (it neither changes state nor outputs to the second monitor) - only outputting to the first external monitor - but at 1600 x 900. Thus since a recent change, it is not "re-detecting" the "change in state" on resume, ONLY when i now do a full restart. The update may have been a Windows update, but on the same day i also installed a Toshiba Dynadock - with dual display port support. I have used the Lenovo system update to update the driver - now it is at 10.18.10.4425 - and as the driver loaded the monitors re-detected, and corrected - but later the problem is persisting. Does anyone know how to force the driver to re-detect on resume not just on restart? Hello, I'm confused about dock stations for Dual Core / Quad Core modifications of T520. I've currently got my W520 setup with the 433835U Mini Dock Plus Series 3, running the internal display, one 1080p monitor on the dock's DVI and one 1440p monitor on the dock's DisplayPort. I'm thinking about purchasing a second 1440p display.  Will be possible to run a second DisplayPort monitor on the dock instead of the 1080p monitor that's currently on DVI? EDIT: I have some extra cabling and adaptors, so I was able to test that the dock can drive both DisplayPorts simultaneously, it's just a question if it can handling 1440p on two screens.

Problem: W530 not charging with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 1. My W530's battery charges when not plugged into my Mini Dock Plus Series 3. 2. When the W530 is attached to the dock at first the Windows power icon shows that the W530 is connected to the power brick, and shows that it is charging. Charging lasts for about 15 seconds.  Then it stops charging (but continues to show that it is connected to the power brick) and runs from the battery, I can watch the % charge constantly lower. 3. I have updated the BIOS and Drivers from the Lenovo site, this made no difference. 4. I carefully cleaned the contacts on the W530 and dock, this made no difference. 5. None of the pins on the W530 or dock appear to be damaged, I closely examined them with a magnifying lens. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or ideas to resolve tis problem? Thanks, Bob

Hi all,I have a T420 and minidock series 3 (4337), and recently upgraded to a BenQ BL3200 monitor.  The only way to get 2560x1440 to the monitor at 60Hz on this machine is DisplayPort. Plugging directly into the DisplayPort on the laptop works fine, but plugging into the DisplayPort on the dock causes the monitor to turn off (no signal).  If I have my laptop screen up, even it goes black when plugging into the dock's DisplayPort. I borrowed my sister's identical dock to rule out a hardware issue with the dock itself, and same behavior there.  I'm wondering if this is a driver issue?  I tried a few of the newer versions of the Intel HD3000 drivers and no luck.   I'm running WIndows 10, fresh install.   I do not have the Nvidia discreet chipset, just hte HD3000 onboard graphics. Thanks! Dave

A:Second monitor not detected: T430s with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 dual external monitor

Fixed; was a driver issue. Problem seems exclusive to a Dell u2415 on DP port 1 only of the dock or to the laptop's DP port (at least for the couple monitors I tried). It's possible it could affect other monitors. My starting point: 9.18.13.4535 / 9.17.10.2843 (Nvidia /  Intel) The latest driver from Lenovo is 9.18.13.4535 / 8.15.10.2725. I'm not sure how i have a slightly newer Intel, but that's what it was. I couldn't install the Lenovo driver. I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel (10.18.10.4276). In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

"Yes, i already upgrade my dual core cpu to quad core in my elitebook 8470p"I saw documents with info from hp with "3610qm 3630qm 3720qm and 3740qm" support for 8470p and 8570p models in this forum. There in JUNE 2012, The product overview:http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03373336Said only 3610qm and 3720qm are compatible with the 8470p.But recently document i saw from hp (and i think is the reference guide more actual, january 2013 ) to 8470p and 8470w models like this:http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c03659338-3.pdfthere is not clear, even this document show that only 8470w support quadcore and for 8470p show only dual core models..so i need confirmation before buy quad core model, anybody can confirm if its possible??Thanks a lot

Hi, HP Elitebook 8470P is a series of many models/products of laptops and can spread over few years. Very hard to answer because we don't know which year is for your machine. Lately HP gives G1, G2, G3 ..... for some series that give us more information. The document in front of me now dated June 2013 gives another side of the picture PROCESSOR3rd Generation Intel® Core? i7-3740QM (2.70 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache, 45W, 4 cores)*Up to 3.70 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i7-3720QM (2.60 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache, 45W, 4 cores)*Up to 3.60 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i7-3630QM (2.40 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache, 45W, 4 cores)*?Up to 3.40 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i7-3610QM (2.30 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache, 45W, 4 cores)*?Up to 3.30 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i7-3540M (3.0 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache, 35W, 2 cores)*Up to 3.70 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i7-3520M (2.90 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache, 35W, 2 cores)*Up to 3.60 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i5-3380M (2.90 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache, 35W, 2 cores)*Up to 3.60 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i5-3360M (2.80 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache, 35W, 2 cores)*Up to 3.50 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology3rd Generation Intel® Core? i5-3340M (2.70 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache, 35W, 2 cores)*Up to 3.40 GHz with I... Hi guys. I've been looking at 2 laptops, they are basically identical but one has an Intel Core i3-4005U mobile processor and 4GB of RAM, and the other one has an AMD A4-5000 mobile processor and 6GB RAM. The guy at the store and a couple other people I know told me that the Core i3 is better than the A4 as the AMD "Quad Core" processors aren't very good, so even though the Intel i3 is only dual core it will be better than the quad core AMD. The other question is the RAM. Is 6GB that much better than 4GB or will 4GB be fine for basic use. (That's all this laptop is for. Basic use and touch apps since it will be touchscreen)

The AMD laptop is this one: Buy the HP Pavilion Notebook - AMD A4, 6GB, 15.6 at TigerDirect.ca
And the Intel here: Buy the HP TouchSmart 15.6 Notebook PC - F5W37UA#ABL at TigerDirect.ca

Last question, what the hell is DDR3L? All the new laptops have it nowadays... Is it backward compatible with normal DDR3 laptop RAM? Meaning can I take a normal laptop DDR3 4GB stick out of my dads laptop and put it into the 4GB (i3) laptop if thats the one i'm gonna get? Or does the DDR3 "L" part cause issues?
Thanks

Edit: Sorry i'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread. If it isn't mods could you please move it? Thanks

A:AMD A4-5000 "Quad Core" vs Intel Core i3-4005U Dual Core

Hmm, I guess you should read some reviews. But just from the specs the AMD has 6 GB ram instead of 4. Has a DVD burner where the Intel shows no optical drive. It only has W8 8.0 where the Intel has 8.1. But some people may prefer 8.0.

Read reviews. See how each performs. If you don't wish to use it to burn DVD then the optical drive, or lack thereof may not matter to you.

Edit: Oh, and the AMD is about $80 cheaper.

I did a check today on my computer because its been running slower than I thought it would when I bought it. When I ran the test it said I have 1 core working, and that the processor is at 2.36 GHz, not the 2.66 it should be at. I don't know why only 1 of the cores is working, so I was hoping one of u tech guys out there might know... Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 with only 1 working core

Sure!

Can you give specifics on your computer such as make and model # and your OS?
(if custom built; motherboard model and model#, operating system, memory amount, BIOS settings if applicable..etc)

Simply put- RED Blue Screens. I don't know what I need to call them. THEY ARE RED! And they just reference "An error reading the instruction set" There is no STOP Error. I upgraded the Processor from AMD Athlon x2 5000+ to an AMD Phenom x4 9650. I have not overclocked it. In fact, first thing I did after installing it was reset CMOS.

I've checked for minidumps relating to this issue but there are none. I am running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

I've tried doing research but my results are non-conclusive.

A:Strange Behaviour after Upgrading to AMD Quad-Core from Dual-Core

Hello Timmah,
Everything is running OK, you drop in the new CPU, then you start getting problems.
Have you double checked all the connections and power leads, plus all the data cables ?.
Is there a Bios update that will address the issue ?, it may be worth checking the MB manufacturers site.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I have a xigmatek rifle cpu cooler on a quad core q9550 processor , and I am wondering what should my core temps be?

Coretemp is showing (at idle)-
core0 - 49 C
core1 - 46 C
core2 - 45 C
core3 - 55 C

Why is core3 so much higher? Is it possible the thermal compound above the core3 is not as spread out as it is on the other cores? I used arctic silver 5 and followed the instructions to put the compound on as a single line across the cores of the cpu.
Also, I have speedfan 4.34, and for some reason it reports different core temperatures
core0 - 42 C
core1 - 42 C
core2- 40 C
core3 - 51 C

Also, what is the "internal temp" and "remote temp" that speedfan reports. It also seems to have confused the CPU with "System" as CPU is showing 23 C and System 37 C.
Lastly, my video card, ATI HD4870 seems to run so hot!
temps at IDLE are
GPU temp - 77C
GPU Load 0%
Fan Sped 1288 RPM
GPU Temp (DISPIO) 77.5
GPU TEMP (MEMIO) 86 C
GPU Temp (SHADERCORE) 82.5 C
VDDC Current 29.8 Amps
VDDC slave #1 temp 63 C
VDDC slave #2 temp 66 C
VDDC slave #3 temp 63 C
VDDC 1.2625 V

Hi,
I have two laptops made by the same manufacturer and same year, but one is a dual core laptop with an SSD harddrive and the other is a quad core laptop with a regular hard drive. Both laptops run Windows 8.

I would like to transfer my programs and files from the dual core to the quad core. However, obviously the quad core has different hardware.

I am wondering if I simply remove the SSD from the dual core and put it into the quad core (replacing the quad's primary hard drive with the SSD) and simply boot up the quad core, would that be sufficient? Will the quad core recognize the hardware mismatch and automatically correct the drivers, while keeping my programs and files?

Or is there some other, efficient way to make the transfer? I really want to avoid having to reinstall all my programs.

Thank you

There are a lot of third party tools designed to move a Windows installation to new hardware. I prefer using native Windows tool Sysprep for this, mainly because the method is the one and only Microsoft supports and recommends but also because it has never failed me.

The method is described in this tutorial on our sister site the Seven Forums and works also with Windows 8: Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer - Windows 7 Help Forums. Method One in tutorial would be ideal for you for moving the SSD to new computer.

Read the information and warnings in the beginning of the tutorial carefully, especially the warning about Windows needing to be reactivated is important. Come back if you have any questions.
