Attempted Switch from DPC - Lenovo ThinkPad T590

Q: Attempted Switch from DPC - Lenovo ThinkPad T590

Hello everybody.!I would appreciate any help.Started getting BSOD(Attempted_Switch_From_DPC) almost every other day and I've paid attention that this usually happens when laptop is idle.My laptop is a month and a half old and it shipped with 8GB DDR4 ram soldered in MB( base ram speed is 2666mhz but the real working speed that shown in Task Manager is 2400 because of CPU).So I decided put extra RAM and it turned out that my laptop supports up 48GB RAM so I bought 32GB DDR4 2666 module from Samsung and got 40GB in total. I'm not sure maybe it's coincidence but I started getting these BSODs after these things: installing RAM, updating BIOS, updating Windows system (Cumulative update), using USB type-C adapter with 3-USB and 1-LAN output. I don't know who the culprit is.Here is the link to the DUMP file, data from Msinfo and Speccy - https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjF0Y2tXlq21hAVSSnCL8_95zho4?e=rt8xuIMy laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad T590Records from Event Viewer:Log Name: SystemSource: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-PowerDate: 11-Sep-19 11:43:42Event ID: 41Task Category: (63)Level: CriticalKeywords: (70368744177664),(2)User: SYSTEMComputer: LAPTOP-1NK0CFUHDescription:The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

Since installing Windows Updates on Jan 2, 2018 my TPYoga 12 has been giving BSOD's when waking from sleep. The message is "Attempted switch from dpc". It happens at least once a day now. Sometimes the next boot is successful, and sometimes it happens a second time after the system tries to reboot which then shows a diagnostic screen. Choosing to boot as normal from that diagnostic screen then does boot successfully. This is on a system running Win10 Pro V1709 build 16299.192.  I have seen one other user with a TPY12 report this recently (see post in german). Looking at many posts regarding this specific message over the years it seems to be related to a driver issue. Given the rather intense troubleshooting instructions for issues like these I'm hoping someone here has found a fix.  Below a screencap of my deteriorated system reliability.

A:ThinkPad Yoga 12 BSOD since 2018: "Attempted switch from dpc"

Some more searching led me to this post stating that it's related to the Synaptics touchpad driver. Windows did install four Synaptics items the day before things went bad. I have uninstalled the touchpad driver in Device Manager, re-downloaded the driver package from Lenovo's driver page, and installed it. Let's hope this fixes it, and let's hope Windows doesn't "update" the driver again.  For the record, here are the updates that ran right before the problem appeared:

Hello there, i'm new around here, I've recently encountered a BSOD out of the blue while the PC was idling. So far it only happened once, but I don't want to take any chances.

The affected driver was commonly known as the ntoskrnl.exe, it happened a year back but the affected was associated with some other drivers that I known, so solving it wasn't that hard. But this time it doesn't associate with any other driver ( I may have been wrong ). Anyway, this issue occur right after I've updated the AMD Catalyst Driver, which may be root cause of this issue, but I just gotta make sure.

I've attached my recent dumpfile below, if I've made any mistake on posting, or miss out any information required for debugging, please let me know.

Many thanks

I have a feeling it is something to do with the windows anniversary update and a driver that has been installed (if I had to guess something to do with intel rapid storage technology as I had to have a custom version running before to avoid bluescreens, however I cannot remember the version number and am unsure if windows updated it.)

*Edit* Windows has not updated intel rapid storage, it is the same version I was using before.

Anyway, it was happening as I was playing Gears 4 and I have attached the perfmon and information asked for within the thread. (also perfmon is showing devices that are not recognised and detected, I am aware of these, one is an xbox 360 controller which does not have drivers and the others are my wireless device which I have disabled as I am using ethernet.)

A:BSOD, cannot peg down what is causing it (Attempted switch from DPC)

Please disconnect the xbox 360 controller from the system and uninstall it's software. The earlier versions of these devices are known to cause BSOD's on some WIndows systems. As for the disabled wireless device - please re-enable it, then update it's drivers.Once the drivers are updated, then feel free to disable it again. Your UEFI/BIOS (version 4206) dates from 2013.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.FYI - W8 and W10 communicate more with the UEFI/BIOS than previous versions of Windows, so it's important to ensure that the UEFI/BIOS is kept up to date (and that outdated UEFI/BIOS' may be the cause of some compatibility issues).Although you appear to have a reasonable number of Windows Update hotfixes for this version of your OS, please double check for any new Windows Updates.  It only takes one update to cause a problem, so it's essential that you have all of them.  The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating. Please uninstall the Corsair Link soft... Every BSoD has the same error data.

I've tried everything I can think of, like turning Hardware Acceleration on/off
Makes no difference what other programs I have running at the same time nor what I'm doing. It ONLY occurs while Firefox is running even if Firefox is loaded in the background but I'm not actively using it.

I tried using IE v8 (the last one MS offered for Win XP) extensively and it worked fine. No BSOD and this was for several hours. Started Firefox in "Safe Mode" still get BSoD. Ran virus scans with no hits.

I have a near identically setup of XP on a second primary partition that I can set active on/off hidden/not hidden. Firefox works fine on this second partition. It obviously has the same hardware and all drivers are the same too.

I have attached one dumpfile output listing by BlueScreenView. Every BSOD dumpfile is the same except for the date/time.

I started getting this error and BSOD after the last major update (Anniversary update?). My PC starts fine and is OK for hours, then suddenly falls over. It never did this before the update.

I have updated all my drivers and also run a scan and repair on the registry using the Registry utility in Advanced System Care, but it's still happening.

What else can I do without just rolling back to a restore point (which would presumably just try to update itself again...)

Thanks,

I am getting BSOD's: Attempted switch from DPC. Kernel-Power. Event ID 41. Task 63.

I installed a new hard drive and Windows 10 to fix my laptop from previous BSOD I was having with Windows 8.1 but now I am getting a different BSOD. Usually It happens when I have to restart the computer after installing software/drivers. Also after I used the program to test the memory RAM: mdsched.exe.

I will really appreciate if you can help me to fix this problem.

Hello Lenovo Community!I own an Ideappad Z400 Touch and I had issues with trying to charge it. Obviously I turned to the forums here and I found a possible solution here. When I tried to perform a battery firmware update, it went smoothly and then suddenly turned off and had a fast flashing orange light. Obviously I knew my battery and/or charger let me down in the middle of the process. I'm kind of scared because I don't know what to do nor have the money to afford a new laptop. What most likely happened to the battery is that it got "electronically disconnected" and technically only relies on the AC adapter which now I have found out is pretty screwed up and stops charging once Windows actually boots up. Is there any way to fix this? Please help! Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I hope someone can help me.  I am having an issue with connecting my Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga to a USB-C Dock.  I have installed all of the drivers and enabled Thunderbold 3 within BIOS, however only the USB, LAN connections work when I plug the dock into the Laptop.  The two displays that are plugged into the dock via Display Port do not work and the laptop seems not able to detect the displays.  Things I have tried: Plugged in only one monitor using both VGA and DP but still nothing.Uninstalled and reinstralled the drivers.Ran the Lenovo support tool to make sure all drivers on the laptop are up to date.Power cycled both the laptop and dock. As I said the USB devices plugged into the dock seem to work fine as does the LAN.  I have tried to update the firmware on the dock however I keep getting the following message: ThinkPad USB-C DP Hub version can't be checked! Please power cycle the Dock to try again. I have powercycled but still have the same message.  I am all out of ideas as to why the displays do not work.   Any ideas?

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! I hope someone has crossed this issue and has a solution.

I have a Thinkpad 600e and use it in a situation where it needs constant power. I use it as a monitor for my summer home when we go on vacation, However, we have constant power outages and I want to have the laptop boot up automatically when power resumes and we are away. Can anyone help?

Thanks

A:IBM Thinkpad 600e power switch issue...please help

Power switches usually rely on a momentary "on" connection to turn on. A continuous connection invokes a shutdown.
If there is no option under BIOS to restart on power restore, you need to make a pulse generator that provides a contact close on power up and hard wire it in.

This review in regards to the next Generation T series from Lenovo.

The machine I tested is based on a Intel i7-8565U 8th Generation Whiskey Lake 1.8GHz quad-core CPU.  It came with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a bright 14? QHD(2560 x 1440) with Dolby Vision 500 nit IPS screen.  The screen I got according to HWiNFO64 is Model LEN40AE with a Monitor name of B14QAN02.0. It looks to my naked eye as the same as my X1 Yoga 3 screen with Dolby Vision.  It?s a very nice screen. This screen does not support touch.  The side bezels have shrunk(see pictures below).

As for graphics.  It came with a Intel UHD Graphics 620 and Nvidia GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

For connectivity it came with 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, 1 USB Type-C, 1 HDMI 1.4, 1 Thunderbolt 3, a MicroSD Card reader and 1 Audio Jack.  An interesting feature on this laptop that I personally have not seen before is the left side USB C port can charge other USB C devices.  It can output 5V at 1.5A. I personally have not been able to try this. The Thunderbolt 3 USB C port can also output 5V at 1.5A PLUS it can charge another laptop using P to P 2.0 charging function.  I was not able to test this feature either.

For Networking the T490 came with a Intel AC 9560 and mine came with a Fibocom L850-GL and Bluetooth 5.0.  It also included a Full size ethernet port.

For Docking it supports Thunderbolt 3 Dock, Side Mechanical Dock and USB 3.0 Doc... Read more

In other words, the keyboard should be enabled in notebook mode and in tablet mode. Does anyone know which registry entry disables the keyboard and touchpad in tablet mode?  Need some affirmation from the experts (assuming you all are....) that the system will perform phenominally, or I do need to cancel the order and go for the bigger power of P52?My knowledge of hardware - 3.5 out of 10. I know the parts, but not how they all specifically work.  Ordered the T590 after making concessions that I didn't "need" to get the P52 becuase I don't run engineering or 3D programs. My mom is a software engineer, who works remotely, and is currently travelling the US and Mexico, moving many times per year. Two years ago, her company gave her a T480 to work with and she's still using it. As my only computer - I assume the T series will be good enough?  My usage:Heavy internet browser use - searching through the realtor MLS system, dotloop, docusign, Adobe Pro, etc... Need several websites up and running at once.Uploading and downloadng documents onto my computer and regularly into different websites. Emailing files several times a day. Light stock trading using TD Ameritrade software. Personal and business financal Excel use.Document and PDF creation/editing.  Need bigger (15.6) screen to have 2 documents/sites displayed at the same timeWeight is a small factor, but I've got no problem with 5-6lbs.Price - $2,500-ish is comfortable for me because my entire financial life is through the laptop. I don't like to go too cheap on tools.Gaming: Spider Solitaire  Goals:Fast performa... Read more

Read more

When installing our new T490 and T590 through SCCM - and using the lenovo sccm driver pack, the touchpad is not responsive to gestures only button clicks - The Trackpoint works fine... Installing Lenovo drivers for mouse and touchpad after the installation does not help.If I look at the driver in Device Manager, everything seems fine - There is a Synaptics Pointing Device present - but also some Microsoft HID Compatible touchpad drivers. If I remove the HID Compatible touchpad drivers - the touchpad starts working - but after a few restarts they are installed again and the touchpad is dead again.Trying to manually install the Synaptics drivers for the HID Compatible touchpad - does not help.Installing on Windows 10 1809

I just got a T590 and started using it last week. I have two pairs of speakers, one (Harman Kardon) a little nicer than the other (Alans). When I first started using the laptop, I could play music using the Harman Kardon speakers just fine. A couple days in, I played music from the Alans speakers. After that, I tried to play music again from the HKs, but it won't work. It's almost like the laptop thinks the HK speakers are a microphone. When I connected them, a little microphone icon appeared on the screen. Under the sound settings in the control panel, it showed both external speakers and an external microphone, and when I tried to play music, it would show that the volume of the external microphone was very high, and the volume of the external speakers on but very low. The sound coming though the speakers was soft, garbled, and mixed with a lot of noise. I got the same results with a pair of headphones. The Alans speakers still work. In the Device Manager, my sound controller is "Realtek High Definition Audio(SST)". I have tried both disabling and re-enabling it, and uninstalling it and letting the computer reinstall, and downloading the driver from Lenovo and manually reinstalling. This did not fix the problem. It is the latest version (6.0.1.8673). I saw in this post something about using a driver called "High Definition Audio Device" (the generic one from Windows?), but I didn't see that as an option when I tried to update the driver using available driver... Hello guys. I own a Lenovo Y50-70 laptop and I recently installed a Hackintosh (macOS on a non-Mac device). It turns out that my GeForce GTX 860M built in the laptop isn't compatible, and I don't even need it because I stopped gaming. How can I switch to my integrated Intel graphics card so that some of my apps won't be unusable?

Hi there guys, Hope this reaches the official team in charge of developing the UEFI for this two laptops. I would like to see an option in the graphic settings to allow me to disable the dedicated GPU (Nvidia MX250 in my case) and run only the laptop with the integrated Intel GPU and another option to run in normal "hybrid" mode. I have observe too, that when I select the option to give the integrated Intel GPU 512MB of video memory it does not retain the option after reboot and sometimes it doesn't even allow me to choose that option.Maybe a bug, I don't know, but I would like to have that fixed too.I'm using the latest UEFI/BIOS (1.52) by the way. Thanks for any feedback in advance. Best Regards,

We got a new Lenovo T590 and when i went to Image it, it went through the normal process and everything was fine until it boots into windows 10 for the first time. It disconnects from ethernet even though its plugged in, and the trackpad doesnt work. It seems as though the driver for Ethernet adapter is being uninstalled when it first boots into windows because its missing completely from the network connections screen in the control panel. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks
