z510 fan loud with SSD

Q: z510 fan loud with SSD

Hello, I've just installed a SSD 120GB Plextor M5Pro drive on my Ideapad z510.Laptop is now fast as hell, but cooling fan works too loud now. It activates when CPU usage is about 5% and is much louder than before. When I switched back to 1TB SSHD it's quiet again. There's no fan-controlling option in BIOS and I wonder if theres an BIOS update or addiotional driver that allows adjusting fan speed. It's very annoying becouse laptop is twice louder than before. At 40% of CPU usage temperatures are like this:And the air is cold or barely warm.I request a BIOS or driver update if there's nothing like that now - for many customers that would like to use their SSDs along with z510 model it will be very helpful. Or any other solution that work. Please help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Is it possible that you just think it is louder because the SSD it selve doesn't make any noise so will probably notice the fan more than bevor. I upgraded my Z510 to an SSD too and doesn't hear any difference.

Hello, I recently bought SSD (Samsung 850 evo 250GB) to upgrade it in the Z510. After migrating the data, all the OS and apps work faster but I also have that fan issue - as little the CPU is utilized, the fan goes really louder than before.Tried cleaning the registry, SpeedFan... none works. I also tried updating drivers and even re-installing Windows 10 - the issue is still there.Cannot find any solution in the net, please advice how to return the fan back to normal workflow, not lead by the CPU utilization. Thanks!

So i listen to music on itunes and I put it on max volume, then like 20 min of me listening to music it suddenly freezes and makes a LOOOOOOOOUD sound that I can't exactly describe, its like a horn sound?? Well anyway's its very loud and the laptop gets frozen so there isn't anything I can do except press the off button to restart my laptop. Whats wrong with it? I barely got my laptop 4 months ago! And this problem only happens when I'm listening to music please help? :]]

Also I have enough ram because I barely install anything and I don't have many files like music and pictures saved on my laptop either :)

A:Whenever I play loud music, my laptop freezes and makes a LOUD sound??

Your computer may be overheating. Blow all the fans out with a can of compressed air. Consider a laptop cooler.
Does this happen if you listen to music through headphones?

Hi there,
When I use headphones with my Surface Pro (Win 8) I cant hear the voices in my videos - the background music/sound effects are just too loud.

How can I fix this? I have tried using the Win 8 Video player as well as VLC Player and I still get the same issue.

I have tried the headphones on my iPhone and have no problems.

It has been a long time since i've used a Windows computer (usually have a Mac) so sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks in advance
Nathan

A:Voice not loud with headphones - background music too loud

You cou;d try using Winamp as it has an equalizer. Most DVDs the sound track and effects are pumped up compared to dialog. It drives me crazy, but short of demuxing, fixing the audio yourself then remuxing, trying to boost the voice frequencies is about all you can do.

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

Try speedfan, that should work.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z510. I got it around 3 years ago, and this year, I realized that it has been running quite slow, or slower than usual. Whenever I open a chrome tab, it would take around a minute to set it up and would lag a little when I open up multiple tabs.  This is the specs of my computer.http://tech.firstpost.com/product/laptops/ideapad-z510-59-387061-specification-348262.html So, I was wondering, if I were to add more ram to my computer, would it fix this problem? Would my computer speed up and will respond/act faster? I know that I have 4 GB DDR3 right now, 2 GB that is shared with the graphics card and my task manager says that I have only used 1 out of 4 slots. Does this mean that I have another 3 empty slots that can be filled with ram? Also, is there a maximum amount of ram my computer can handle? I have seen some people ask about it but have no idea about it. So, my real question, would it be possible to add 8 GB of ram? This means that I would have a total of 12 GB ram, and would most likely have 4GB, 4GB, 4GB of ram, 3 slots taken out of 4. If I have 4 slots. But if I have 2 slots, then could I add an 8GB ram, and would have 4GB and 8GB, still totaling up to 12GB?

A:Lenovo Z510! ABOUT RAM

Hi fwachee,

Welcome to the COmmunity Forums.

Yes you can add 8GB ram to your current 4GB for a total of 12 GB.

As per specification from your hardware manual (page 27):
 DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM 2 (max 16 GB)

Two slot are physically available if you would open it up for confirmation as shown below.

This would definitely improve speed and memory utilization of your machine specially with multiple browser and virtual machine apps.

Hope this help answer your query.

Such warning should not be ignored as I would suggest that you immediately backup all your file on a different storage and create your recovery media as soon as possible specially that this is your work pc.

For differential diagnostics you can run Lenovo Solution Center and similar diagnostics to check possible harddrive issue.

My device: lenovo z510

Issue: I was using win 10 happily after the free upgrade. Suddenly 4-5 days back my cursor started blinking. This is problem no.1. Later I found out that whenever I try to cut/copy-paste anything it also didn't work. Searched a lot online but nothing worked. So I tried to reset windows(keeping win 10). But that to didn't work. Again reset windows, this time back to original one(8.1). Now two extra problems emerged. First is trackpad keeps freezing every 15-20 seconds. Secondly two-finger right click stopped working. Everything else is working like 2-finger scroll, zoom, rotate but not 2-finger right click. Tried a whole lot of things which includes uninstalling, updating drivers to list some. BUT NOTHING WORKED. Seems h/w problem. But no. I tried usb mouse too but the status was same i.e., cursor freezing, blinking, cu/copy/paste not working

I then switched to Microsoft support. Technical person took control of my PC for whole day. Tried random of things like updating graphics driver, running disk cleanup, deleting temporary files, etc. Finally in the end she suggested to reinstall clean windows dowloaded from MS site. I positively did that too. BUT THAT TOO DIDN'T WORKED.

NEED HELP BADLY. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.

I gather you did not contact Lenovo support for call back. The should be able to resolve it if its not a hardware problem. If new then return and/or replace it are the options.Nothing can be done as the Tech's are the primary source for these problems.

I have had a horrible experience with Lenovo customer support, and am looking for advice. My Lenovo Z510 started crashing only while plugged in, and of course this happened shortly after the warranty expired. Because it was out of warranty, I didn't bother calling Lenovo. I tried everything I could think of, replaced the fan, replaced the A/C adapter, replaced the heat sink and reapplied new thermal paste. I updated all of my drivers, and the system BIOS. I even took my computer into a repair place, and they couldn't determine what the issue was but offered to slowly start replacing things until the issue was fixed. This seemed expensive and a big risk, so I didn't pursue this. But the problem persists. I recently found on a Lenovo forum that this had happened to multiple people, and the problem was a bad motherboard. Because of this, I decided to call Lenovo customer support. The person I originally spoke with confirmed that he had also found several forums that showed Z510s had a faulty motherboard, and said because of this it was likely that despite being out of warranty they would still be able to fix my computer. He escalated my case, and several days later I got an email from Lenovo simply stating my computer was out of warranty. I emailed them back asking if they would be willing to fix it because of the known issue, and never heard back. A month later I called Lenovo, asking why I had never heard back, and they gave me a cookie cutter response that I needed ... Read more

Hey, I need a hint on whats going on with my device. I usually use my laptop as a desktop (not moving, always plugged in at the same place), but last week, I had to use it without being plugged in for a while, during which, it suddenly died and now it doesn't want to turn back on, even when it's plugged in the grid. It's already quite old device (prob. 3-4 years), and I am aware of its poor battery, so I thought that thats the cause and bought a new one. However, after replacing the battery, it's still dead. Now I have no clue whats wrong with it.I've tried 2 adapters, which are both working (one is brand new) and I've also tried pushing the power button with no battery connected (read that in some discussion somewhere). When I try turning it on with the old battery, the orange LED starts blinking, but nothing else happens. With the new battery, the light does nothing.Does anyone know what might be the cause of this ?

Okay, from what I can tell I have a Lenovo Ideapad z510, and the audio is really messed up. It's been like this for about a year, and I have no idea why. I don't really see anybody else with this problem and I can't figure out what's causing it, but a tech guy I know told me it probably had something to do with moisture.

So basically: No sound at all without headphones/external speakers. Headphones/external speakers only play through one earphone/speaker, which is really frustrating because I've tried multiple pairs of headphones and all of them have the same problem. But, (this is the weird part) if I pull the headphone plug out a little bit and twist it, it'll play what should be through only the right earphone through both.

Please help?

hi, until recently my fn keys would work as intended  - they would mute, increse volume etc. (i left them as default). but recently they reversed and f1 would be "f1". i checked other fourms and they said to go into bios, i did not change bios before this so how it changed by it self is still a mystery to me. When i entered the bios, it said that my hotkeys were already enabled, so i was confused as to why they were not working. i did a reset and it worked. Good. but today i started my pc again and my fn keys were reversed again!. and i did not touch the bios! tldr; my fn keys keey reversing automaticallyCan someone tell me whats going on? thanks

Hi ThereI have lenovo Z510 and I'm really happy with it.But I have some isssues. 1st, it always had this problem from day 1. when it's on battery, it's performance goes really down (with every windows and high performance profile).2nd, it's some time that my battery gauge doesn't work well. it gets stuck at 100 and then suddenly goes to 0 and turns off.3rd, recently the battery is stuck at 0 and it doesn't get charged, while it says it's charging. battery led is always blinking red and the big problem is while I'm using AC adapter, yet it has low performance I mentioned in 1st isse above. so I can't run any big software and even have problems with web browsers...4th, a long time has passed since windows 10 has come and yet we have no battery manager or optimizer; especially fan dust removal and gauge reset could be helpful Thanks for reading,Best Regards, Amin

Hi,  So i own the lenovo z510 since almost 2 years now.  In the last two months the pc started to shut down hard randomly. And this becomes very annoying, since I cannot even work 20 minutes in a row with the laptop.  I have seen that many people in this community suffered from this problem,  and even a motherboard replacement didn't solve it.  I repost this issue in order to check with you guys if you have found the optimal solution for this problem.

Hello. My laptop is Lenovo Z510 One day, I've put an adapter in the aux jack and it got broken inside the laptop. I've tried many ways and I succeeded in removing it out of the laptop. But after that, I couldn't hear anything from the laptop internal speakers. And when I put a headphone, sound comes out unclear and with noise. But when I remove it, the laptop doesn't sense that it's removed and  I can't hear anything from the laptop speaker.Any way to disable aux detection or fix this issue? Thanks in advance

A:Z510 - AUX Jack Failure

It seems that one of the connectors inside the jack is short circuited, thus the laptop thinks a jack is connected, try to clear the heaphone jack carefuly

Dear,I have a problem with the battery on my notebook (Lenovo Z510). IF I'm working without the power cable in my notebook the notebook unexpectedly shut down, without any warning of low battery. When I put in the power cable the notebook works fine and start charging the battery. Is my battery defect or what could be the problem? Jeffrey
