Yoga 920 Won't Connect to Visible Wifi Connections

Q: Yoga 920 Won't Connect to Visible Wifi Connections

Just received a Yoga 920 as a gift. Everything seemed to boot-up smoothly out of the box. I can see every Wifi connection in my neighborhood (including the router in my home). I'm typing this message from a computer that's connected to the Wifi via the router in my home. Airplane mode is off. However, when I try to connect to my local Wifi, and type in the key, I get a message of "Can't connect to this network". It's pretty clear the router is sending a signal, and the Yoga 920 is at least starting to receive it. What do I need to do to complete the connection?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys, I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop. This is the second time I have had issues with the WiFi dropping out frequently.  The first time was when I first downloaded windows 10 - I downloaded a new driver from the Lenovo website and everything worked perfectly.  The last couple of months it has been playing up again. My phone and any other devices will be connected to the internet however my laptop will repeatedly disconnect from the internet, this happens a ridiculous amount of times everyday - and it's not just my home wifi! Im currently at my university library and it does the same thing. It just drops out randomly and says "not connected - no connects are available" I have to keep restarting my laptop for it to reconnect to the internet (I know that's probably not the best thing to do but it's the only thing that sometimes works). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software, I've scanned for hardware changes and nothing comes up?? Has anyone got any ideas on anything else I could try?  Thank you all!

First day of owning my Yoga Pro 3. Has anyone experienced intermittent wifi failures? I've had trouble on both access points that I have at home. One is an older 802.11b router (set to channel 1), and other a D-Link815 dual-band bgn router (with the 2.4Ghz radio set to channel 11). I've experienced problems using both routers on either channel and when using the 5Ghz spectrum as well. Connectivity with either access point lasts from 5 mins to 30+ mins (in limited time I had available to use it so far). Far more frustrating is that when dropped, the YP3 refuses to reconnect. Manually selecting the access point in the network connections charm and clicking "Connect" results in failed attempts at connecting and system will refuse to connect to any Access Point for a random amount of time. At one point I had attempted to reconnect about 20+ times before it did reconnect. Obviously, tried rebooting without any change in behavior.I uninstalled the Broadcom wireless driver (the system the auto-installed a Microsoft driver which, from the version number, appeared to be an older version of the same Broadcom driver as they used a very similar numbering scheme and were very close). No change. I reverted that change. Are there known issues with these wifi cards/drivers accessing open wifi connections? I live in the middle of no-where, so have had no compelling reason to secure the access points. What else should I try? Thanks

Hi,

I have just moved homes and I am unable to connect wirelessly to the internet through the network in my new house. The computer is connected to the network with excellent signal strength but access shows as local only and will not connect to the internet.

All other computers have been able to connect to the internet with no problems, and my computer will connect to other wifi connections, no problem. I can connect with a wire directly to the router, but no luck with wifi. I have also had this problem with one previous wifi network.

I have tried many things, including taking the compter to a computer shop for them to look at and having another professional look at it, but so far no luck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi,My brand new Yoga 720-15 IKB doesn't connect to my workplace wifi network which is a Mikrotik network. It does though connect to my home network or a mobile hotspot and works fine with them. I have installed all Windows 10 updates and Lenovo Companion updates. I have manually updated wifi card driver, I have also tried deleting network card and installing it again - but no success. Still doesn't connect to this one particular network in my workplace. To make it stranger my coworker has the same brand new Yoga 720, the only difference is that mine Yoga is grey and his is platinium color. We discovered also that two, supposedly the same computers  have different network cards (he has Intel, I have Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A. This is a bit weird).I have also found out his Yoga connects easily to VPN at our workplace, my doesn't.Any ideas how to solve it? EDIT: my current network card driver is 12.0.0.295

I like to keep my C930 in sleep mode. But sometimes after wake up, the laptop cannot connect to wifi (it cannot find surrounding wifi, and I cannot turn the wifi off). I will need to restart the computer to make the wifi work again. But when I restart the laptop in this condition, It cannot restart normally, it keeps restarting several times and until entering into repairing mode. I need to turn off the computer and open it again. It happens several times. It is hardware or system problem? And once I waked the laptop and screen didn't work. But it never happens again. Do I need to reinstall the computer or send it to repair?I just bought it for a month.

I have been relatively happy with my Yoga 900, but I have run into an odd situation and would appreciate any help.Specifically, my device functions well with my home router, but if I move to an area of the house where the WiFi signal is weak, and I get disconnected from the router, I seem to be unable to re-connect to the router when I then move back to an area of the house with a strong signal.I tried turning off the WiFi and turning it back on, but it still will not connect. It seems the only way I can get back online is to reboot. Is there a solution to this? For what it's worth, I do have the default 18.12.2.3 driver installed (Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8260), and saw a post somewhere suggesting going to the Intel site for their driver.I am not someone who enjoys tweaking settings, so hopefully there is a simple step I am missing. Thanks so much to anyone who has time and willingness to offer a suggestion.

Hello everybody! As my post says my Yoga is not connecting to the internet upon startup, and after long periods of sleep. It does connect to the network immediately and will say 'No internet, secured', and will stay this way for a minute or more, or I have to manually disconnect and reconnect to the network. Troubleshooting problems from the context menu gives up before even trying. The strange thing is if I sleep my computer for around ten minutes it reconnects immediately, if it's a few hours or over night the problem occurs. I just cannot figure out what is causing this. Everything is completely up to date including the BIOS version and Windows 10.I've checked for the latest drivers on Lenovo's website, and I've looked for more up to date Atheros Wireless drivers. I have also tried rolling the drivers back, and at another point allowed Windows 10 to update the drivers. I have even done a complete wipe and reinstall of Windows 10, the problem has spanned over multiple major Windows updates, but I do not have this problem on any other operating systems. I have the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Netword Adapter in the Yoga 720-15IKB, and I have made sure it is not going to sleep to save power in the power management tab of device properties. I have also tried toggling on and off all of the services and startup items pertaining to network connectivity, and have tried disabling Windows Defender. I have a Yoga 13 running Windows 8.1 that has recently stopped connecting to my home wireless network. All the latest Windows Updates are installed at this time.I have uninstalled the Realtek Network device and the related drivers, rebooted and tested without luck. This unit sees the networks and if I enter a wrong password, it asks for a re-entry of the correct password.  When the correct password is entered it says "Checking Network Requirements" then fails with "Can't connect to this network"None of the troubleshooting services have been successful. All my other devices connect without any issues. I am runniing a Netgear R8000 Nighthawk wireless router. What is odd is that this laptop will connect to my iPhone 6 hotspot without any issues. I suspected a windows update may be the cause so I downloaded drivers from Lenovo for the wireless adapter.  Uninstalled the current ones, rebooted, and then installed the Lenove supplied drivers.  Still no joy. Any other suggestions short of a reinstall of the OS? Cheers! Hawkeye007

When you're piggybacking on someone's unsecured wifi which of these can they see?

Computer name? Bios system number? Account names? Any files on pc? (what else?)

A:What info is visible when on wifi?

All they can see is the computer name, if you have file sharing disabled that is.
Now if you have a very intelligent but evil person that set up the unsecured network to lure people to use it, they could have set it up to do what is called a man in the middle attack, then all your communications over the internet can be monitored and modified.

Attaching to unknown networks like this can be hazardous.

All that being said, if it is a friends network, you are probably ok, just be sure file and print sharing is turned off.

Hi Abhimahatu, welcome to the Seven Forums.

   Note
My response below is not meant to accuse the OP of anything. Instead, it is solely based on how I interpret the OP's post.
Reading between the lines, it seems that you are "borrowing" other people's WiFi without their knowledge. If that is the case, we cannot help you due the forum rules. We will not, we are not allowed to assist in breaking to other user's networks and computers.

The fact that your Ubuntu and mobile can see the networks makes it obvious that those WiFi networks are not set to be invisible. Reseting router or changing its frequency could solve the issue but for that you'd need access the router in question which I think is not possible for you.

Hello all you W7 users.

I have had a perfectly harmonious dual boot system (Ubuntu 10.04 and W7) for a few months now .... until about 4 or 5 days ago, which is about how long I've been trying to fix this problem.

My laptop has an Atheros AR9285 wifi card in it (which generally seems to be considered a pile of rubbish) which stopped working after I tried to update its driver. However the card still functions well when I boot into Linux, so the card is obviously good. In W7 (an upgrade from the "Pro" edition to the "Ultimate" edition, because of wanting to change system languages when necessary) I can no longer see any wifi networks. The card "details" tell me that it is functioning correctly, it is properly enabled and the driver is the same one now that it had before when everything worked OK. When I run a W7 powered "diagnostic" I'm told that there seems to be trouble with the driver.

I can normally fix this kind of thing with a certain tenacity but this has got me!! I'm tired, frustrated and very angry. I have tried just about everything that has been suggested on the many forums etc. that I have visited in an effort to solve my problem.

Can anyone help an old guy out here? Many, many thanks in advance.

All the best,

Martin

PS I forgot to add that I even went out and bought a Netgear N300 USB wifi adapter which it was impossible to install in W7, but which works perfectly in Ubuntu 10.04.

* or try complete uninstallation of driver (windows should automatically install its own generic driver until you get an updated one): Uninstall Device and Device Driver - Vista Forums

* Have windows search for a drier for you: Driver Install - Device Manager
* Change auto-install settings for drivers in win7: Device Installation Settings-OR--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OR-* you can look up the most recent driver from the manufacturer of the device to download. About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

I have a TPlink wifi router and a toshiba laptop, the problem is the following:
My wifi connection is working, but I see more and more available connections listed on the laptop
(i do not use any addittional wifi softwares).
I am sure that my wifi router only supports 1 connection, however with the laptop I can connect to any of them, with the same pw.

Let's say the wifi connection's name is: TEST
On the laptop I see these connections: TEST;TEST 2;TEST 2 3;TEST 2 3 4.
so I'm pretty sure that the problem is with the laptop.

I use the ccleaner sometimes, I guess there could be the problem.
now I'm playing around with the ccleaner's settings, but i don't know how to remove those waste connections from the laptop.
also there is an other option in my router called "SSID broadcast" which shows the connections id, as they described, maybe this is importanat at this problem.

thank you for any replies, this case is becoming really annoying.

A:Multiple wifi connection visible

If Test 1/2/3 are duplicates of your own test network, you can just go to Control panel- Network and sharing center- manage wireless networks (in the left pane), then remove the offending networks, leaving only test. If you tinkered with the network settings, these may have been created. OTOH, its possible there are other connections in the neighbourhood (not yours) that too are named test. So first remove the redundant connections in the network and sharing center, then give your network a more unique name.

As for SSID broadcast that simply transmits the network name into the open air, when enabled. All these networks showing up means SSID is enabled for each, but SSID is not responsible for their existence in the first place.

You cannot control SSID broadcast for other peoples' networks.

Hey All,

Didn't know where to put this topic so excuse my stupidity when I am in the wrong section.

Some time ago I had a neighbour hitching a ride on my wifi network. He took advantage of my senseless installing an extra sitecom homeplug without configuring the wifi settings properly. He admitted to using my network but he denied doing this wilfully. He stated that he just used the (wps) button on his router and that the router itself choose the nearest and strongest signal.
Well, whatever you think of such a story is not really significant. I of course upgraded the security of the sitecom homeplug to the same security levels as my initial router. Which is a strong pass, making the SSID invisible and only allowing certain mac-adresses on the network.

Now lately while inspecting the security from a laptop, which I had ordered to forget my network, I found that by making a connection, windows could not see my SSID's and that I had to punch in blindley the name and the pass.
So far so good.

Anyway, I downloaded vistumbler and got it working. I performed the same test and ....... There it was, My network, the initial router and the homeplug behind it. So it seems that if you install the right programs your SSID invisibility is non existent.

Now is my question:

How can I make my wifi SSID really invisible. I guess it can be done for I saw with the same programm two other wifi signals without a SSID.

Can you please point me in... Read more

A:visible invisible wifi network

How can I make my wifi SSID really invisible.

The short answer, as you've already found out, is that you can't.  Not broadcasting your SSID only prevents the casual person from seeing your SSID, someone who wants to see it will be able.  This is part of reason I do not recommend turning off SSID broadcasting, the other is some devices have difficulty connecting to a wireless network that is not broadcasting the SSID.  Not broadcasting the SSID only provides a false sense of security.  The real security is using WPA or WPA2 with a strong password.

Gday.
I posted with this exact same problem in early 2009 - nothing of my hardware or config has changed since then, but I thought I'd ask again to see if any solutions have come up since.

So, I have an Acer TravelMate 5740G (all other system specs are fine so i'm only posting the networking relevant stuff) and it does not connect to wireless networks
- Acer Nplify 802.11bgn
from a broadcom 802.11n wireless adapter
apparently has the best driver (as advised by MS device manager)

this pc has been able to connect to a grand total of 2 wireless networks
1. at uni it connected on its own for 15 minutes, any time i've attempted to manually connect it says "could not connect to [network name]"
2. connected just fine to a 3g iphone 4 acting as a portable hotspot

at home, my wireless settings are as follows:
Open WEP PSK w/ 1 key index
everybody else in my family can connect to this wireless network
i can connect with my phone, my dad with his lappy, my friends with their lappies.
there are NO xp computers in the network
there are 3 w7 desktops on the network
the internet works just fine with the rj45 cable
---> i'm 100% sure the issue is not with my home network config OR the router

at uni, the router + settings are not the issue because they service 15,000 people a day without issue
---> i'm 100% sure the issue is not with other network configs OR their routers

i have tried every change under the sun (that i know of) with my laptop's own configs.
i've attempted... Read more

Hi all!
Since the past few weeks, I am having trouble with Wifi adapter. The moment I switch off my laptop or Restart, quite often the Wifi adapter is not even visible, even though all my drivers are up to date and have diagnoised my laptop using Dell check application.
It is quite frustrating to me as for no reason whatsoever, this wifi adapter disappears from the laptop. My work gets effected immensely. Any help asap would be much appreciated. I know I can Refresh my laptop and may be that could solve the issue, but is there something where I can fix this problem for good?
My system :
Inspiron 7737
Windows 10
Intel [email protected] GHZ
Ram 6 GB
Thank you!

hi!
I have been experiencing this problem for a while already. Previously, I didn't have problems connecting to my office's wireless router as my laptop automatically connects to it when I turn the connection on. Then, for a few weeks, my computer could no longer connect to the said network. It really puzzles me on how this was the case when the laptops and other devices of my other colleagues can connect to the same network, so has my smartphone. When I was doing field work, I usually bring along my laptop and I found out that it had only a specific problem on my office's router since I can connect to other wireless networks. I searched over the net for any possible solutions; I rebooted the router countless times but to no avail. I made sure that I didn't get the encyrption key wrong all the time. I even tried to connect my computer directly to the router using a cable and tried to access the router interface via the web browser; but it couldn't connect. I then tried pinging it on cmd, and it only prompted a "time-out." I'm at a loss here. I would really appreciate assistance with this matter.

I'm having a new problem on my Acer laptop. The wireless has worked fine for years, but yesterday I was suddenly not able to connect to any wireless networks. The wireless adapter is on and there are several visible networks, but none will connect. Specifically,
when I select a network and tell windows to connect, the window fades to the background and nothing else happens. There is no error message. There is no popup asking for a network key or directing me to a website for login. When I check the list of networks
again, it still shows the same list.
Solutions I've tried (I followed the instructions on the windows help site https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15287/windows-why-can-not-get-connected). Oh, and I've also run the network help wizard, no luck.
1. Uninstall/reinstalling the wireless drivers
2. Download and install most recent drivers from the manufacturer website
3. Reset TCP/IP stack
4. Release/renew IP
5. Flush DNS
The only odd thing I've noticed is that in the available network list, there is one listed as "other network". This is on the list in multiple settings (on the plane, in the airport, at the hotel), where there are differing networks. I've tried
removing this network but it is not in the list of remembered networks.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Could it be disabled in the BIOS? Have you tried resetting the BIOS to default/safe values?
Can you try another network card (they're fairly cheap)?

Hi,

Ok, I have a very frustrating problem here and am just about at my wits' end!

I've just performed a clean install of Windows 7 onto a desktop PC. Up until today everything was going fine. I had a wireless network set up and could access the internet through my BT Voyager router. However, today we switched to a ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 V2 router and I can no longer access the internet (or even just the wireless network).

The strange part is that I can actually see the network, i.e. my wireless card detects and names it correctly but when I attempt to connect Windows 7 just gives me a message that it cannot connect. It has never prompted me to enter the WPA key at any stage.

I might have accepted that there are some compatibility issues between ZyXEL and W7 if I wasn't typing this through the same router, same wireless network and using W7 on my laptop!

To rule out some basics:

1. I tried a fresh clean install of W7 and this time did not connect to the BT Voyager network but attempted to connect straight to the ZyXEL network. Still no joy.

2. Afterwards I tried to connect to the BT Voyager network and, hey presto, it works fine.

3. The signal strength is very strong.

4. My wireless card is pretty old - a D-Link Air DWL-510 Wireless PCI Adapter but I have the latest drivers I could find. I've also tried using a USB Belkin 802.11g to connect but again fails. (Both methods can connect to the BT Voyager however).

5. I only have one router switched... Read more

A:Solved: Wireless Network Visible But Still Will Not Connect. ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 V2 & Wi

Ok, panic over. I'm dumb. Nothing to see here, move along!

So the router is broadcasting on 'g' which would explain why my D-link 'b' card couldn't pick it up.

As for the Belkin there are no specific W7 drivers but by running v.4 in 'Vista' compatibility mode (no service packs) and making sure all previous Belkin software and drivers were removed, it finally worked!

P.s. for anyone else trying this, make sure the Belkin adapter is NOT plugged in until prompted by the installation.

Cheers!

Toshiba L755 laptop running Windows 8

Late last night (about 24 hrs ago) I tried to update uTorrent.
laptop froze for a few seconds then seemed to be normal EXCEPT nothing would load in Chrome
ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_ FAILED

ran Malwarebytes: nothing
got the BSOD a couple times upon restart with two different messages:
DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATION and
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I also DL TDSS Killer onto a flash drive (through my husbands laptop--which i am on now) to get that to my computer AND
Whocrashed AND RegCurePro
AND DriverTuner that was blocked from completing whatever it was trying to fix.

I am usually good at DIY fixes but this has me stumped and freaked out.

I'm sure there is stuff I am not thinking of, but i need HELP!!! this is ugly.

I got it to boot in safe mode w/network. it can "see" the router, but not connect.
As far as I know, my husband's laptop is clean, but this thing is running slow and i'm worried about it too.  Malwarebytes scans are clean.  It is an Acer running Windows 7.

Hey guys,  I bought this Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago, and have had no problems with it until about 3 days ago when the wifi internet got really slow and would cut out with in a minute or two of working. During this time, any time I open the notebook and connect to wifi all other devices in the house won't get internet. I've tried browsing through this forum, but the solutions that seemed to work for others have not worked for me. If anyone has experienced this or knows of a solution please let me know. Thank you!

Hello. So I bought my Lenovo Yoga 920 a few months ago. Recently, maybe within 30 days ago, whenever I shut down my laptop then powered it on, I would come to my desktop and see that my internet wasn't connected and that there were "no connections avaliable".  (Basically like this When I clicked on the wifi icon, it would only show Airplane Mode and nothing else. Something like this:  My temporary solution was to hold down the power button for 4-5 seconds and then power back on my laptop. I had to do this several times, like atleast 7 times, until my laptop got wifi again. Sometimes it wouldn't even work and I would wait a few hours and then try powering it on, and it would get wifi again. This is really a pain. I still have warrantly on this laptop. Have you ever encountered this problem, or give suggestions / advice on how I can fix it? It would honestly mean the world to me. Note: I also repaired my qualcomm wireless LAN installer everytime this happened. I don't know if this helped.

Hi...

A brief description what I was doing to get into this situation.

I've a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, it's installed with a Dell Wireless mini card 1397 which I've been trying to change to an Intel 533AN_HMW ( type N ) which I was unable to get it to work.
Swopping between the 2 cards wasn't a problem until I removed all the wireless applications, Dell & Broadcom, whilst trying to get the new card working, thinking it shouldn't be a problem because I had all the original drivers.
Now after changing back to the original Dell card I now cannot get that to work, win7 has identified the card & installed 'Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card' driver, but there are no wireless connections visible.
I can connect via wifi to my router with my smartphone so I know that is working.
I'm not sure if the WLAN is switched on, normally done using the 'F2' function key.
I've tried downloading new drivers from Dell with no change in the state.
Tried a system restore but this fails suggesting problems with the AV - turning this off doesn't have any effect.
IPCONFIG /all doesn't show the adaptor.

Any further help greatly appreciated. Thanks Mick

A:WiFi - No Connections

You need to go to dell website and download driver for your adapter and possibly broadcom.
The dell site lets you enter your system details to search for drivers.

Download drivers from other computer if you can and transfer to the dell.

Hope this works,
