I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just authored a DVD from Windows 7 today and popped it into a laptop I just installed Windows 8 on. I uninstalled the Video and Music app since they're kind of a bug on a mouse and keyboard setup. The little metro popup came up on the top left side of the screen, and it asked if I want to play this DVD, and the player, by default, was Windows Media Center. I found this odd considering before, in 7 and vista and even xp, Windows Media Player was the default media player.

I wonder by the next release, probably the Release Candidate, we might see a new Media Center!

The bullet in Office 2007 (Word) is significantly smaller then it was in prior versions. When I hit the Alt plus the keyboard 7 I'd get a bullet symbol--I still get that but its much smaller. I want my big bullet back. Is there a way to reassign that or change it or some other character?

A:Word 2007 alt-7 bullet is smaller--how do you make it bigger?

The bullet size is related to the font size in use. I have not got Word 2003 to verify, but it looks OK in 2007 here.

I have a document that is hundreds of pages long.

Within this document there are certain sentences, phrases that repeat and I need to find them in a practical manner.

Now I could go through manually, look for lines I suspect are repeated elsewhere and search for them, but that would take forever.

Is there any practical way to do this with Word 2010, Windows 7 Index or some other piece of software?

I have written a macro in MS Word that basically checks items off a list. It is based off of the seach and replace function, all it does is serach for a term and when it finds it changes it's color to blue and makes it strikethrough. I don't know if this is the most efficient way of doing it but this is the way I've come up with.

What I would like to add to it is the ability to have it tell me when the term is not found in the list, and possibly add it to the bottom of the list in a red color or something. Anyone know how I could do that?

Here is the macro code:
Sub CrossOff()

For x = 1 To 5 'Find and replace 5 times

SearchTerm = InputBox("Word to search")

Selection.Find.ClearFormatting
Selection.Find.Replacement.ClearFormatting

With Selection.Find
.Text = SearchTerm 'Word to search for

.Font.Color = wdColorBlue 'change the text to blue
.Font.StrikeThrough = True 'cross it out
End With

text to be replaced is '#' then all the text left to the '#'
including the '#' on the same line would be replaced.

Hope this is clear.

If it was in WP, I would call it a "hard return". A user has created a table in Word 233 pages long. Whenever she needed to return to a new line in the same row, she would hit the enter button instead of shift+enter. This table needs to be in Excel. Hello-I'm hoping someone out there can help me with this. I have a mailing label merge template set up in Word. Some folks in our database only have one address line so whenever I perform a merge the second line on the label for those people is blank. I have to a find and replace to fix it each time before I can print the labels.

Does anyone know how or if there's a way to get the template to automatically find and replace so I don't have to do it each time?

Thanks for any suggestions!

A:Auto Find/Replace in a Word template

There are other fixes for this, such as altering the merge field code. For instance, this article tells you how to do it in Word 2000:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264722

However, a quick F/R would be:

Put ^p^p in the FIND box.
Put ^p in the replace box.
Replace all.

What are you trying to replace those words with? You can't use *find and replace* without the replacement word or phrase. If you just want to delete those words, you can use *find* and click on *find next* to move through the document, deleting as you go.

In the first document that I open, Find/Replace works great. In any document after that the function will not work. It will usually add a space or two instead of subtract it.
If I close out the documents and shut down my laptop, power back up, open a new document, then it will work, but only for the first document again.
So frustrating and time consuming. I could have done it all manually with the time I have spent researching.

Windows XP + Office 2003. In Word, the Find and Replace function just stopped functioning. It goes through the motions, but reports "Word has finished searching the document. The search item was not found." --no matter what the search item was, and even if it occurs a gazillion times in the doc.

Below the window where you enter the search item, it says: "Format: Right." I have no clue what this means (opposite of Format: Left? of Format: Wrong?) or how to change it if it should be changed.

I thought the problem might be a disabled service, but I can't find any candidates in the list of services.

So I need help.

Aloha...

I need to append <HA> to the beginning of each heading, ie:

<HA>Trapping Errors

If the line had no style, I could probably use the wildcards ^13*^13 in Find and Replace. However, since the line is a different style from the body text before and after it, the first ^13 is not found.

Any ideas how I can do this? Please?

(The ultimate goal is to run a macro to do this for each chapter of a 600+ page book.)

It should just go 1 page at a time back up, but continues to find asian. on the scroll bar(lower right) the double arrows turn blue when he first hits -find- after typing in asian? I checked many things. any ideas? hopefully you can make me feel stupid!!

Tim: Since '97, that little ball between the upper and lower arrow now change to "find" instead of page up/page down. To change it back to page up/down, you need to hit the little ball and select the top-right icon to get it to go page by page again.

I hated it too when it first came out.

I am editing a Word document (using Office 2002) with repetitive errors best solved with the Replace function of Word.

The string I am trying to edit is text with a number, for example:
Exercise9 [Title of Exercise 9]
Exercise10 [Title of Exercise 10]

I would like to change this to:
Exercise 9: [Title of Exercise 9]
etcetera

Thus far I have tried the following using Find, Wildcards
([A-z]{8})([0-9]{1,2})
and this seems to be able to find all the instances I am searching for.
However, when I try to replace it, it doesn't seem to work.

I have used the following to replace:
\1 \2:

And I end up with --> Exercise9: [Title of Exercise 9]

(Note: If the backslash appears as the "yen" symbol, it is because I'm using a Japanese OS.)

Edit:
Similarly, I would like to add "the" to the following two phrases:
Click Apply button OR Click Tools menu
where the second word is variable (i.e. directions to click a wide variety of buttons or menus)

I tried the following string.
Find, Wildcards: (Click) ([A-z]{1,}) ([menubto]{4,6})
Replace: \1 the \2 \3

but the result is, for example
Click Apply button the

Just to test it, I tried reversing the segments as such
Find, Wildcards: (Click) ([A-z]{1,}) ([menubto]{4,6})
Replace: \3 \2 \1

and it came up with what is expected: button Apply Click
so it seems something is right, but then again something else is obviously wrong.. it's just not obvious to me.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

But "7" is relates to month, so if there is any code for change the numeric character to specific date format as "mm".

For ex :

A:Can anyone tell me how to make too make printer letters bigger

If you are trying to print out something like webpage content, you can change the font size in Print Preview by changing to 150% or whatever and then select the number of pages to view.

Experiment with the sizes up from Shrink to fit then change the number of pages you want to view it in and you will see what the text output will look like in the varying number of pages and then you can select how many pages for what will suit your eyes.

If you leave the number of pages at 1 then it will probably revert to Shrink to fit and so print out in the smaller font size.

Once you are happy with how you think it will print, then click on the printer icon in the top left of the menu bar.

If you are printing a doc from a word processing program, then set the font size and type prior to creating the document within the program, otherwise you will need to highlight all of the text first before you can change to how you want it, and changing those settings after you've created the doc may not stick.

Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo? For example, I type "tsanding," and instead of changing it to "standing," it underlines it red. I know I can then right-click it, and select AutoCorrect > standing, so that, from now on, if the same exact typo arises in the future, in which I accidentally type "tsanding," it'll change it to "standing." I've thus far collected *hundreds* of specific typo corrections in this way. But that's very time-consuming, and is only a weak attempt at preventing typos I may be likely to make in the future (based on the fact that I made the exact typo at least once before). Is there any way to establish that I want Microsoft Word to go ahead and correct every single "underlined red" occurrence from now on, based on its best guess as to what I meant? (except in cases where the typo was so bad that it has no guess at all) That way, when it corrects something I *didn't* want corrected, I can then go back and add what I wanted to its dictionary, to tell it not to consider that word an accident from then on.

A:Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Found this in the Word Help files. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options. In the Replace box, type a word or phrase that you often mistype or misspell ? for example, type usualy. In the With box, type the correct spelling of the word ? for example, type usually. Click Add. Is this what you're talking about?

The Word 2002 edit/find dialog box flyout becomes abnormally slow if Aero features (ie "desktop composition") are enabled. It takes about 1.5 sec for the dialog box to open and move across the screen. Other dialog boxes are normally fast. The edit/find dialog in Excel 2002 is also fast.

Clearing the checkbox "desktop composition" in control panel | system | advanced system settings | advanced | performance will disable desktop composition, after which the edit/find dialog runs at normal speed.

I am currently using a 56wh core i7 fhd xps 15 (9550). The laptop is brand new and I am getting around 5-6 hours of battery life with only light use ( web browsing and videos) which is a little disappointing. I was wondering whether I could get my 56wh battery replaced with an 84wh battery at some store or send it in. If the replacement process is easy then I would be willing to buy an 84 wh battery online and replace it myself, but I don't know where I would get it from.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro running and my C: drive is an SSD which is only 120GB. I'd like to replace it with a large drive, but I don't want to go through the headache of reinstalling Windows, reinstalling all my apps, etc.

Is there a way to:
connect a replacement driveclone my present 120GB C: drive to the new driveswitch them, boot off the new drive, and everything works the same as before (except I have more space)

I don't mind buying a third-party product if that's the best route. Someone mentioned CloneZilla to me but I'm not that familiar with it. Obviously, the partitions won't be the same in the sense of doing a 1:1 clone new drive would have a much larger partition :-)

Thanks!

A:Replace C: drive with bigger disk - clone OS somehow?

I've used Macrium Reflect free version for creating a backup of my 1TB HDD and used the backup on my 250GB SSD.
Ofcourse I had a lot of stuff removed and had the free space trimmed to let the backup fit.
For you it would be much easier as you don't have to trim any space.

Short answer, yes there is a very easy way to do.

EDIT: only thing required is creating a bootable USB or CD with Macrium, a Windows PE (Pre Environment) to use the backup

I've got a document about 41 pages, broke into multiple sections. Track changes have been on, I've been able to edit the file for a while up until an hour. Now, when i make any changes this document just closes, this has been tried and same phenomenon occurs on 3 other computers, so it must be something with the file? Any idea would be appreciated.

Some interesting characteristics:
when change is made word shuts down.
but when you use auto recover and word opens back up, the change that caused word to close is actually made.

A:Microsoft Word 2003 closes in error when I make a change with track changes

do you have the remove hidden data feature installed and turned on?
Otherwise, I would suspect a corrupt Normal.dot file - close Word, find and rename or delete it (Word will rebuild it when you open it again).

A:Can't find my microsoft word work - Please help

Click the Windows circle in the left hand corner and type in the name of the document to search for it. If you didn't name it type *.doc and all the documents on the computer will show up.

I don't know why they changed this. I hate the navigation pane you get now when you use Crtl + F instead of the Find & Replace. It's a real "pain", yes pun intended. Now I know Find & Replace is Crtl + H but after x number of years using Ctrl + F I just can't get used to switching. Plus, it's still Ctrl + F for searches on websites, etc. so it's very confusing.

So my question is, is there any way to change the keyboard shortcuts so Ctrl + F would bring up Find & Replace like before?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this problem, but I'll give it a try. I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop running Windows Vista. Very often, when I try to open a Word document (whether from Explorer or from within Word itself), Windows is unable to find it. Then I try a second time and the document opens with no problem.

I have not tried to isolate the specific conditions under which this happens. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough to be irritating.

Any idea what to do? Do I need to change a setting someplace?

Thanks for your help.

Hello, I'm not very good with computers so bare with me please :).

I am a university student and today when I went to open my class notes in Microsoft Works Word Processor I found nothing but a blank page. The file was still there, with the exact same name, but all the text was gone. The document contained 15 hours of lecture notes needed for an exam in 6 days, so I'm naturally pretty anxious for help. I have since turned my computer on and off. I have tried converting the file to rich text format and back, to no avail. The size of the document says a mere 16 kb now as well.

I opened the seemingly blank document with notepad, and found a bunch of jargon along with 2 interesting clues. One was very small pieces of my class notes here and there, in between the coding and jargon. The second was towards the end of the coding, where it said various random things about my HP printer. I did perform a printer test today, and was wondering if that did anything to delete or corrupt my notes.

I performed a system reset back to 5 PM (the file appeared blank at 6 PM, when it said it was last modified). The file is still blank. I have also checked through the recycle bin, nothing.

These notes are very important to me and my grade in this class. I have backed up material from 3 weeks ago, but with 3 hour classes i would still be missing a lot of material >_<. Any help is much appreciated, thank you very much.

Hi, hoping you are lucky, right click on the document and select properties then "previous versions" if there you will be able to restore the file simple click and select restore.
