HP Spectre x360 - Touchpad not disabled in tablet mode

Q: HP Spectre x360 - Touchpad not disabled in tablet mode

On my HP Spectre x360, the touchpad is still active when the laptop is in tablet mode. The keyboard is disabled as expected however. Is there a setting that can also disable the touchpad in tablet mode?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a brand new X360 that suddenly doesn't want to switch to tablet mode when flipped around.  I have the setting checked to ask me before switching, but the prompt never comes up.  What am I doing wrong?

A:Spectre X360 not switching to tablet mode

Let me also add that I just restored this laptop to factory from the restore partition, and it STILL won't go into tablet mode when flipped fresh out of the box.  I also can't get the screen to rotate.  This can't be a software issue, it worked when I first purchaesed it!!!  What do I do???

Hello, I have a problem with my Spectre X360 laptop. Exact model 13-4109no. If I fold the screen to tent or tablet mode, nothing happens. Tablet mode will not be enabled and keyboard will not turn off, which basically makes the mode completely unusable. Also if I manually activate tablet mode screen will not rotate and keyboard still stays enabled. I have tried to install latest drivers a few times, didn't do anything good. BIOS is also the latest version. So, any suggestions? Thanks!

So I recently received my spectre x360 back after having a faulty hinge repaired to realize that the autorotation into tablet mode does not work. When the screen flips back the keyboard remains active and the laptop doesn't seem to detect that the screen has been flipped. The lock rotation button is greyed out in both display settings and quick settings. In my regedit the rotation is set to 0 and I have tried to switch it back to 1 but every time I restart it just goes back to 0. I have booted my windows back through a system recovery drive I got from HP but the problem still persists. If anyone could help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

My Spectre is only two weeks old and works excellently as a standard laptop. However I cannot get the screen to rotate when I select Tablet mode or flip it into the entertainment stand. All online research I can find are from people who either were using Win 8.1 and or updated to Win 10.Mine came with Win 10 pre-installed.None of the settings screens they advise to go to exist.I have also checked the registry and its set up correctly.Windows 10 did the anniversary update a couple of days into me starting to use it so I don't know IF the rotation issue was there from the beginning or not.

Hi

I was not able to find anything interesting on the support site of your model:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

I checked the change on the ELAN drivers from 12/1/2016, but it does not says anything about the touchpad not recovering from tablet mode.

If you already installed this driver and didn't work, I don't have more ideas about it.

My Spectre x360 13" (late 2016 model) loses the mouse when transitioning from tablet to laptop mode.  I have to reboot to get the mouse back.  Incidentally, my mouse (Amazon Basics MG-0975 doesn't even show up in Control Panel's device list as a mouse -- just as a transceiver.  But it works better than the Microsoft mice (3500 and 4000) that I tried before -- they jumped all over the place.  That appears to be a Windows 10 problem, however, not related to the Spectre particularly. I love the Spectre, by the way -- looks and works great and is a terrific value for the money.

hi,i recently bought HP Spectre x360 with highest specs an. d i'm facing some real serious issues with the touchpad / clickpad. as many others in this forum and reviewers pointed out, the clicks are not being recognized. In my case, I'd say it is around 50% of the clicks don't get registered and I have to click again to make it work. That is really frustrating and enough to make me come here and post this question. I really like the laptop and this is exactly what I've been looking for but this clickpad is a real deal breaker. I followed some suggestions on this forum and also tried some troubleshooting myself (since i myself is a support engineer) but to no avail. I changed the synaptics settings to try and remove too much intelligence from the touchpad and at least get the basic functionality right, but i continue to miss the clicks. I also tried replacing the driver with synaptic one but the problem continues, which tells me that it is something related to the hardware piece than the software / driver. can someone here please help me with this? if i hadn't liked the laptop, i wouldn't bother posting here to try and find a solution, i'd simply get rid of it and go with lenovo yoga 3 pro or something else. but this laptop has really high build quality and classy looks, but probably killed by this $25 buggy piece of hardware.

Purchased this laptop this summer. Upgraded RAM, solid state HD, etc.  Most expensive laptop i've yet purchased. And the touchpad will not work. Well, sometimes, for a day or so, it will be OK. But the factory-installed driver never did work--cursor jumped around all on its own. impossible to use. Missed clicks about 20-30% of the time. Uninstalled driver. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers every other day or so since i purchased this. Yes, it is THAT BAD. Went from factory-installed to Synaptics driver to PS-2. Finally disabled windows 10 auto downloads (well, apparently that can't really be done bec MS controls my computer, not me--but i did change it to a metered connection, because every Windows download created new driver issues). From what i've read, it's clear that touchpad and audio drivers for my model laptop with Windows 10 are a systemic problem that neither HP nor MS nor Synaptics has any interest in addressing. Never buying an HP product again. Just went through the uninstall-re-install gig again tonight--now using the Synaptics generic driver--and still the cursor jumps around. will stay in one place for several seconds, but then it's gone. Laptop is basically unusable. Never, ever, in owning 7 different laptops over the last 30 years, have i ever had this problem before. I've encountered a problem with the touchpad. After using a the "regular scrolling" option on a chromebook, having to break the habit by scrolling down by swiping up is no small annoyance. I also use a regular mouse often too, so simply reversing all scrolling would be hard to get used to.  I've looked online and found that other notebooks have a feature called "precision touchpad" that allows them to reverse scrolling. Naturally I decided to test the method myself by going to Mouse and Touchpad under PC Settings. Sadly there was nothing there to change scrolling.         Obviously that wouldn't do, so I kept up the search. I then stumbled upon another way to change scrolling direction through Mouse Properties. Going to the ClickPad Settings and enabling the scrolling option yielded no results.      Normally I'd love to fix things by myself, but this time I need some help. If anyone has any solutions, that would be amazing.

I am having a problem with my Spectre x360. I noticed the casing around the bottom of the nearest edge (during normal usage) of the laptop, the area under the touchpad, was loose. I used some pressure to snap the casing back into position, but after doing so the touchpad has lost the ability to "click" down. The part of the touchpad that would normally click still has give to it when pressed down upon, but does not click down the way it used to, nor does it register a left click event when pressed down upon. It still registers taps, swipes, and multi-finger motion with no problem, so the computer remains funcional, but over the year I have had this computer I have grown used to clicking down on the touchpad instead of tapping it. If anybody has any insights into precise causes of this issue or any possible fixes, please let me know. Thank you. More information: possibly at the same time this problem began, I began to have the issue with a yellow spot forming around the upper left corner of the screen. I know this is a very common issue, but could it be related at all to my touchpad issue? If anybody has information related to fixing either of these issures, I would love to hear it. My laptop's warranty expired last week, and since then it seems the rate of problems I've been having has gone up exponentially.

This computer is an absolute lemon!  Windows confims that I have the latest touchpad drivers.  However, the touchpad is demonically-possessed.  It sends constant mouseclicks so that the cursor jumps all over the place, windows open spontaneously, and it is impossible to use the mouse in anything that begins to resemble a normal manner.  If I add an external mouse, it tamps down the ghost in the touchpad somewhat, but unless I figure out how to disable the touchpad entirely, the demon is always lurking. Advice on this forum from HP reps is useless for my computer.  The Synaptics icon does not take me to any settings that might allow me to dial down the sensitivity of the touchpad.  Even if such settings existed, a touchpad should not go crazy using factory settings.  Unfortunately, all of these symptoms showed up right after the Best Buy return policy ended.  Telephone support from HP is characteristically useless. Any available help would be greatly appreciated.  Otherwise I will spray paint it yellow and mail it to HP's CEO.

Just unboxed my new x360.  Any time I lift my finger off the touchpad I hear a click sound.  This isn't necessarily a "rattle" nor does it feel like anything is loose.  It sounds like an electronically generated sound on a mouse event. Oddly this doesn't come through my headphones when they are plugged into the audio jack.  Another reason I think it is electronically generated is the fact that the sound doesn't change with varying pressure on the touchpad.  Even the most gentle touch, creates the "click"  when lifting my finger. Please help me get rid of this sound.  My previous generation x360 did not make this sound.

Hi I purchased this laptop around 4 months ago and really enjoy using it. the touchpad has always been a little unresponsive, particularly on the two finger scroll but I have been patient with it. today the cursor froze completely.  when turn on the laptop or restart the cursor appears on the screen. when I try to move the cursor using the touch pad it does not respond. when i touch the screen, the cursor disappears and never returns no matter what I do. I can navigate using the touch screen but my natural instinct is to use the touchpad so I waste lots of time instinctively going to the touchpad and then having to redo the action on the touch screen.  I updated the Synaptics touchpad driver (tip from a related string on the forum) ... sp71089.exe ... but it made no difference. Please helpThanksFrankkk

Hello, I just bought a new Spectre x360 (13-4101dx, pre-loaded with Windows 10) and I'm having issues with the Synaptics touchpad. After a Windows update, the driver was updated to version 19.0.12.95.  I have reverse scrolling disabled but for some applications, the two finger scrolling is still reversed. Applications like Google Chrome and Device Manager work fine, the reverse scrolling is disabled. However, for applications like Windows settings, Microsoft Edge, and pretty much everything Windows-related, it seems to be permanently reversed. Also, every time I restart my laptop, all of the settings are reverted back to default. Now, on my HP Envy 15-j000, I have the same driver (19.0.12.95) and I don't face the same issues with reverse scrolling being "permanent" on Windows-related applications. However, the settings do still reset itself after every reboot. How can I fix this? Will Synaptics be releasing a fixed driver for this or am I just missing something? I absolutely hate reverse scrolling and only a small handful of my applications actually run with it disabled...

A:Spectre x360 (13-4101dx) Synaptics Touchpad Issue

I have this same issue with my HP OMEN using driver 19.0.12.95, windows update says this is the latest driver. Scrolling remains inverted in some apps/settings.  I fixed this issue by reverting to an older driver (18.1.30.2), scrolling is now uniform. Kinda annoying that I had to fix it this way, but I had to go the HP Omen driver/support page and download the driver for the synaptics touchpad (even though HP's website insists you use Windows update for Windows 10). I then had to install the old driver, go into device manager and roll back the driver to 18.1.30.2 - you have to do this otherwise Win 10 will just use the latest driver. After that you can change the setting in the synaptics clickpad settings and it will be uniform. This was what worked for me.

I'm really enjoying my new Spectre - a great combination of features and price... ...EXCEPT for the touchpad.  The Synaptics pad has lots of options but is unreliable with multi-finger gestures and is missing basic features like two-finger scrolling not working in VMWare sessions (a long-time Synaptics-specific problem that they refuse to fix).  Do we know why HP decided to go this route rather than with the far superior Microsoft Precision Touchpad that most other premium laptops use?  I had a Samsung Notebook 9 Pro with the MS Precision pad and it worked flawlessly.  Is the hardware capable of using Precision drivers?  I've spent way too much time fooling with settings and even installing a third-party app to make this pad work like it should. A

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. Hi there,Just bought an x360 spectre and am using it with a Dell 24" monitor. The monitor is connected by HDMI.I want to be able to use the Dell monitor as my only display, from time to time, but use the laptop as a keyboard.  This is easiest when I turn the screen around at the hinge, like I'm using the laptop as a tablet, and place the screen on a soft surface (I'm currently using the soft case) and type with the keyboard face-up.  However, when I do this, the keyboard is disabled entirely.   When I hinge it back into a laptop, everything works fine.So in short, I just want to use the keyboard when the screen is hinged back.Any ideas on this specific issue?  I've tried all the basic troubleshooting. Thanks

I want to disable tablet mode so the keyboard remains active when I open the screen 360 degrees (I want to use the computer and its on-board keyboard with an external monitor.) I have been to Settings/tablet mode.  I don't see a general toggle to turn it off.   I have set it to always open in desktop mode, and to ask me before switching to tablet.  I always tell it no, but it turns off the keyboard anyway. I know the machine CAN do what I want -- if I open the screen to 360 over and over, once in a while the keyboard stays active for me.  Seems entirely random, though.  Any insight? Thanks!

When I tilt the screen back, my computer sometimes goes into sleep mode, or at least it appears to be in sleep mode (the screen goes blank and the power button flashes).  To get it back on I usually have to press and hold the power button until it completely shuts down, then reboot.  It appears to happen when the hinges get bent in a certain way.  Is there a cable or ribbon that runs across the back of the unit that might be getting pinched?  How can I troubleshoot this and get it fixed?

Hello, like the subject indicates: availability HP Spectre x360 13-ac076nr and similar pen models in EUROPE (Netherlands in particular) Can someone tell me when the HP Spectre x360 13-ac076nr and similar pen models will be available in EUROPE (the Netherlands in particular). As there is no "Board" for delivery/availability info I just picked one. Please move the thread to the correct board if deemed necessary. Your earliest reply will be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Rico

I just did a clean installation of Windows 10 on a client's Pavilion x360 2-in-1 (model 11-n010dx), and Windows won't automatically switch to/from Tablet Mode  the way it's supposed to (tent or tablet = Tablet Mode, laptop = normal mode). I took care to install all the available hardware drivers & utilities from the HP support site, especially those that seemed related to slate mode detection (GPIO, Virtual Buttons, HP System Event Utility, etc.).  I have no missing drivers or "Unknown devices" in Device Manager. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

HiI bought this for my daughter this Christmas and after registering using the keyboard it suddenly stopped working and I could only use the touch screen keyboard. Then for no reason at all the pc display went in to tablet mode and won't come out of it.I have tried a total reset and everything I described above happens again. I have downloaded all the drivers etc again and rebooted and the outcome is still the same. Have wondered if throwing it against a wall would help, but realised that would only help me and not the laptop.Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you resolve it?Thanks

A:Pavilion x360 keyboard not working and stuck in tablet mode

Hi @kippa22?, Welcome to the HP Forums!  It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide:Learn How to Post and More. I understand that you purchased the Pavilion x360 as a Christmas present for your daughter.  After setting it up, and registering on the HP website the keyboard stopped responding. You could only use the on screen keyboard.  Suddenly the display went into tablet mode and  you could not change the mode back.  You have tried a total reset and installed any driver updates, but the issue remains. Have you ran the HP Support Assistant?  Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter? Would you check this setting. Click the Windows button (lower left corner)Clcik on  settingsClick on  system to  open it.In the left pane of the screen, scroll down to the bottom until you see "Tablet Mode"Verify that  it is set to off. Please let me know the outcome. Best of Luck and Happy Holidays!

I left my laptop alone for a few minutes and when I came back, my display was off and the power led was blinking. I tried [ressing the power button, but the screen did not turn on and power led continued to blink. At the time the charging led was white, meaning the battery was fully charged. I waited a few days to see if draining the battery would allow me to turn the commputer on but that hasn't worked. Now, when I plug the adapter in and try to turn on the laptop, the charging led (now orange, not white) and the power led blink on and off simultaneously. I tried plugging the display to an external monitor too and since the computer has been stuck in this mode, nothing has shown up. I have viewed the HP page for hard reset but it did not work for me: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 I have also viewed the HP led flashing page and tried the steps. They did not work: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 Can anyone help me fix this asap? This laptop was going strong and I've taken really good care of it. I don't see why this computer should die on me after using it for 4 months.
