Is a System Image time-limited to 30 days ?

Q: Is a System Image time-limited to 30 days ?

I just watched a YouTube video of a Win7 Image Restoration.
The author indicated he had trouble restoring a System Image that was over 30 days old, due to the fact that the 30 day activation period for Win7 had expired from the time the System Image was made. It returned an error message for an Image that was over 30 days old, whereas an Image that was restored within 30 days of making it did not. Can anyone definitively shed some light on this? Do I have to create a new System Image each 30 days to remain protected due to Microsoft activation requirements?

Preferred Solution: Is a System Image time-limited to 30 days ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This guy did not activate his system with a valid product key. Else there is no such restriction.

I have a system image created today at 9:58am according to Windows Explorer. When I boot the Repair Disk and select that image, it shows the time as 6:59am --3 hrs earlier.

I checked my BIOS and it shows the correct time.

Anyone have any idea why this difference?

Thank you.

A:System Image Time Stamp

When you used the boot (rescue) disk, were you prompted to enter your timezone at one point after Windows booted up?

I suspect this may simply be a matter of setting the correct timezone when the disc-based Windows prompts you for it.

Hi All

I want to create a system image on my NTFS formatted portable WesternD HDD. Now It has about 250GB of space left(the portable HDD), and the Laptop PC that i want to create the image of, tells me I need about 199GB for the system image.
Then first time I created the image, it gave me a failure message saying I should run a CHKDSK /R and ty again. I ran a CHKDSK /R on the external drive and tried making a system image again, where it got about halfway and gave me the same message. What is going wrong every time?

Also, when I eventually successfully manage to make a system image, can I use that image to restore my PC should it crash or go haywire or should I make a System repair disk as well, or are those two separate from each other?

Thank You

A:Creating System Image Fails every time - Run CHKDSK /R

I'm not an expert at anything so here's what I think I know.

Your last question first: A system repair disk is not the same as a system image. The repair disk allows you to boot your computer so you can access various repair tools, one of which is to restore your computer using a previously made system image. If you can boot your computer normally, it's not necessary to use the repair disk to access a system image. This tutorial gives more info.

System Repair Disc - Create

As far as the chkdsk /r message, that sometimes indicates a hard drive might be failing or there are too many damaged sectors on the drive for it to be used successfully. Perhaps someone with more experience will jump in, but if it was me, I'd try to create a system image using a free imaging tool like Macrium Reflect.

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

If Macrium can't create a system image the chances are pretty good that the WD hard drive is at fault. But if the image CAN be made using Macrium, you may have some other problems related specifically to the Windows 7 imaging tool files. Perhaps they became damaged or corrupt somehow. You could run a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Another thought is even though you have 250GB of free space on the WD and the system image will only require 199GB, I just don't know for ... Read more

I want to know the best practice for REFERECE image windows 7
My server kms is  AUTO_DISCOVERY  if I build my reference image windows 7 on this network and I take ghost (image state before running sysprep), the image is auto actived
After I deploy with sysprep and rearm-0 but problem appeared on kms server with account computer. if i want to fix it,  I read on this forum that we need to tape slmg-rearm just before sysprep computer ..
If I want no activation reference computer I need to shutdown the kms server or build the windows on another network without kms server but the reference computer is good for only 30days after i need to reinstall each time

What is the good solution ?
1- never activate my reference image and reinstall windows 7 each time I want to change setting
2- install windows 7 on the network auto discovery after sysprep with rearm=0 ???
reference image = just before tape sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown....

1. You must do a sysprep before doing a ghost. Otherwise the CMID is not reset which can cause problem with KMS activation. And there is no need to activate your reference image.
2. Activation can be reset an unlimited number of times for an activated Key Management Service (KMS) clients. You can use the sysprep /generalize command where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 1 for the reference image. After capturing this
image, use the sysprep /generalize command, where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 0. But if you rebuild your reference image from scratch no need to worry about that.

And i'm sorry for the rush but I dont really have much time to act or if they will eve let me they most likey will but im not sure
Also as always thanks techspot members you sure do make a great help

A:Which is better-not much time (1-3 days)

Of course, the 1.7 GHz Pentium M is better than the Celeron M, because 1.7 is larger than 1.6

All of the attached DMP files are of the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a) bug check.

This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.

This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high. The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

Hello I have a DELL XPS M170 Laptop. I used to run an ebay business which I would sell INSTANT DELIVERY items. I used Outlook Express to send emails once I had received payment. Outlook Express has an option that it will automatically send emails if it picks up key words. The problem was that my laptop had to be on with Outlook Express running in order to instantly send emails. I used to leave my laptop on for days at a time, not only that but I had it on a bed so there wasnt any airflow. I know im a IDIOT for that and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. My laptop doesnt have any problems like shutting down or anything like that. It actually still runs perfectly except that it gets so hot I could barely touch the bottom of it. After leaving it on for a couple hours i could feel the heat coming through the top. I need your help guys what can I do to fix my very hot laptop. What part do I need to replace (because I know I need to replace something) in order to get my laptop back to its original condition? All the replys from other people about this type of situation always say use air to blow out dust but that is clearly not the case for me. I left my laptop on for days and it wasnt on a flat surface. I basically just need to know what i need to replace in my laptop and I can just purchase the new part and install it myself. I am aware of laptop cooling pads but I just want to fix the problem. Is this okay? I usually shut my laptop off every night before bed. But lately I have been having shutdown and start up problems. Something is causing Windows to hang during shutdown, and therefore I have to hold the power button down for it to turn off.
Doing this at night, then causes Windows not to want to boot up in the morning. It eventually boots up and loads fine after a few attempts. So instead of having to deal with the frustration of doing this every night, is it acceptable to leave it on for a few days at a time?

(And in regards to the problem my laptop is having, My CD-ROM is also broken..so at this time, I'm unable to use the Windows recovery disk :/)

A:Leaving Laptop on for a few days at a time.

It won't hurt it as long as it has enough ventilation. Don't stuff it into a corner or anything. You could also set it to hibernate, which basically turns it off without shutting down Windows. Of you could just put it in standby, which uses more power but basically does the same thing.

Hi everyone.

I recently bought a custom-made computer from a well established business in the UK.

The computer arrived and as I was installing everything onto it, the internet dropped out a few times. I thought nothing of it and continued. After a day or two, the dropping out happened more and more until after about 4-6 days, it become unusable.

I contacted the business, and they sent out a new network card. Whilst I was waiting for this to arrive, I tried using a USB adaptor instead of the installed card. This worked fine, until again, after 2 days or so, it started having the same issues and then stopped working completely after a similar amount of time.

The new network card has now arrived and after 2 days, the errors seem to start to be happening again. It has dropped out 3 times now and looks as though to be getting more frequent like before.

I have tried numerous attempts to fix the errors - resetting the adaptor, reinstalling the adaptor, pausing anti-virus, and all the other methods I could find online - but none have made any difference. Using the troubleshooter works okay for the first few times, but as the issue gets worse, it becomes less and less effective. The errors it reports change but most often it is related to a gateway not being available, or there being some form of IP issue.

Perhaps worth noting is that I use my phone as a hotspot as the internet signal is terrible where I have the computer. However, I've tested it, and it works absolutely fi... Read more

A:how to replace my vista system image with a windows seven system image

Hi bigboi1972. Well this should be fairly straight forward. (I stress the should).

Firstly, a system image is out (and your definition is correct by the way thats exactly what a system image is). That drive is waaay too small to make a system image of your C drive.

However if you get some more storage, a system image can be made from Backup and restore centre in Windows 7.

So to remerging it with your drive. Can you please post a screenshot of your Disk Management Screen? go start right click computer, and click manage, then go to Disk Management. that will help to see whether what you want to do will be possible using Windows own inbuilt tools or whether you need a 3rd party app

in this video Laura E. Hunter from Microsoft describes behavior analytics: https://youtu.be/hNZdboDvnuU?t=1251
She says that ATA will analyze the behavior in a domain for 21 days and declare this as normal behavior. After the 21 days ATA will report unusual user behavior based on the 21 days analysis.
I have two questions about this:
1. Can we see the progress of the analysis somewhere? I searched through the ATA-center but there is nothing. Is it possible to see it in some kind of logfile or the Mongo-DB?
2. We have started ATA with one DC. What happens if we add our other DCs later? Will the analysis recognize behavior from those, also when the 21 days are already over?
I did not find anything about this 21 days analys period in the documentation. I'm more than happy with a hint if I have overseen something there.
Thanks in advance

If you can, post any minidumps created by the BSOD's by going to C:\windows\minidump and select all the .dmp files. Right-click sending all the files to a compressed(zipped)folder. Upload this folder as a file here.

Hi all

New member here and hope people can point me in the right direction. I have been tasked with trying to create a hardware independent Windows 7 image for our organization. Having separate laptop and desktop images would be fine, 1 image for laptops, 1 image for desktops. The person I have replaced created an image, but every time I drop down the image I spend 20-30 minutes installing the necessary drivers from a thumb drive on most of the machines. I don't have too much experience with imaging and I don't have too many resources available. I have a PC with Symantec Ghost server and a few different kinds of desktops and laptops. The models of machines that we have are all Dell's. Laptops are D620, D630, E6400, E6410, E6500, & E6510. Desktops are Optiplex 620, 745, 760, 780, and 980's. Is it possible to create 1 image (at least 1 for laptop, 1 for desktop) that will have all the proper drivers installed when the image is brought down to the machine so I'm not spending 20 - 30 minutes installing drivers each time I drop an image down?

I have done a lot of google searching and have found a ton of websites. All of which are making me more confused and a lot of them are referencing technology I don't have access to like WDS and such. So any links or steps that members can provide would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!!!

Welcome to SevenForums.

The path you have been assigned to travel is rough and wrought with danger.

Familiarize yourself with WAIK, Windows Automated Installation Kit. Pay particular attention to DISM and WIM files.
Assuming you have a TechNet or a MSDN subscription, then just go to the download site. If I remember correctly, TechNet sticks the WAIK at the end of the OS downloads.

Hello all. First post, major problem.

I developed a serious issue with my computer yesterday, that I can't resolve.

Basically it goes like this;

I can open up Internet Explorer and be online for about 4 minutes. Then when trying to load the next site or page, I get the "page cannot be displayed" white screen that tells you to check your internet settings, etc.

I have been on the phone with Comcast Technicians 3 times. I had a guy come to the house to make sure my broadband modem was okay. Everything apparently was fine on their end.

Now, if I go to Control panel, then network connections, then local area connection; click it, go to support, then 'repair', it re-establishes a connection with the modem and I can be on again for another 4 minutes.

So I can easily get back on, but only for a few minutes at a time.

At first I thought the modem was setting a new IP every few minutes, and throwing off my ethernet card. But Comcast says no.

So...... Either I have some virus or spyware that sabotages my ethernet card every 4 minutes, or, my ethernet card has gone bad, like a capacitor that slowly drains and screws the card every few minutes.

I have done multiple spyware and virus scans...nothing but the usual crap, which I deleted.

Now, the catch is...I have two computers, connected to my modem thru a router. Both computers began failing at the same time. That led me to believe it was the modem, and not my rig.

But I have removed the second c... Read more

Sounds like a possible dns issue on your broadban providers side, one of their routers perhaps? I know you've contacted them already but may be worth another shot...seems kin of odd that both of your systems are doing this.

Try doing a tracert to yahoo.com or something and nothe the IP beyond your modem (should be comcast's router) and do a ping -t on that ip address and see how long it lasts.

Hi all

I see that technet now allows the "Retail" i.e "ordinary" suscriber to download the Enterprise version of W7.

Before I do a 3GB download and spend time installing and trialling this out can anyone tell me if this version is "time limited". I saw that some public trials were limited to 90 days.

Can anyone also tell me if Enterprise still has the Media Center in it.

I want to avoid download, backing up an existing machine and a lot of testing if this product IS time limited.

Thanks in advance

A:W7 Enterprise Technet - Time limited or not

The public enterprise download is a 90 day trial.

I'm trying to build my programming portfolio and establish a base of references. All the work I've done so far has been on government systems and due to secuity restrictions I can't use them.

I'm looking for a simple VB project to work on. This will be done in my offtime, so the simpler it is, the quicker the turnaround. I'm also willing to develop Word macros in VBA if that is what you need.

Documentation and source code will be provided if needed.

Passing this along about Widows 8 Pro Retail $69.99 limited time only

Windows 8 Pro to cost $199 after promotional pricing of $69.99
Microsoft up until now has confirmed the upgrade pricing for the operating system during an initial promotional phase that lasts until January 31. Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 users can buy a Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $39.99 in that period, or pay $14.99 if they have bought a PC with Windows 7 from an eligible manufacturer from June 2 to January 31, 2013.
What has not been revealed until now is the pricing for upgrades after that promotional period, pricing for the full retail copy of the operating system and for OEM licensing.
According to Tom Warren, Microsoft will offer the full retail version of Windows 8 Pro for $69.99 during a promotion phase that is ending on January 31, 2013 with all the other promotional offers. Afterwards, the operating system will be available for $199. If you compare the price to Windows 7, you will notice that you get the pro version of Windows 8 for the price of Windows 7 Home Premium, and not the comparable Windows 7 Professional version.

An upgrade from Windows 8, the regular version of the operating system, to Windows 8 Pro will be available for $69.99 during the promotional phase, and increase to $99.99 afterwards.
To sum it up:
•Windows 8 Pro upgrades until January 31, 2013 are priced at $39.99

I downloaded some limited time free trial software. My time limit has expired. I would like to retry the software. When I download the trial again I get a message that tells me my free trial is over and I need to purchase the software. I have attempted to remove all traces of the free trial. The software has apparently left behind some sort of "identifier" on my computer. How do I locate and remove the "identifier" so I can retry the free trial?

Hi been awhile since I last posted. In the house we have a desktop and 2 laptops on the go in the house. The desktop is wired internet while the laptops are run on wifi. This worked fine until my isp UPC upgraded my internet speed from 50mb to 120mb.. The desktop and one of the laptops still works fine but the acus laptop has web access for between 20 mins to 45mins before the wifi drops off and becomes limited access. The wifi needs to be renabled to regain access to the wifi which lasts another small while until it gets limited access again.

The laptop specs are:

Ram 6gig

At the moment its running for 30 mins then wifi cuts off for a few seconds before starting up again.

this is a problem that is similar to many other posts on this site, but is just unique enough that the solutions don't work:

recently my internet has stated to err after a short period of time of being open. I have a DYNEX wireless enhanced G usp Adapter for my desktop so I can use the wireless in my house.
My computer is running win XP sp3. while on the internet my dynex adapter stops flashing, and the wireless icon turns red and says that it has "limited or no connectivity" When i try to re-connect to a wireless network, the computer says it's appempting to re-establish a connection...it never succeeds. the only thing that allows me to go on the internet is a restart. I have run every registry cleaner, disk cleaner, malware remover and AntiVirus that I know of, and no success. I have tried System restores, CCleaner, CHKDisk, and "repair connection" all to no avail. I have tried re-installing the driver about eight times.
HELP! please!!!! :[[

Hi, I want to completely wipe my HDD and re use it. I was told on here that I can do that by deleting my partition and reformatting using the Windows XP disc. I have my Windows XP disc in the dvd drive and I can't boot to it when I restart my PC. I even set the Boot Priority to [CDROM] in the BIOS. How do I do a clean install of Windows XP? When I run the Windows XP disc from my windows account, I doesn't ask me anything about partitioning. I tried it and it just reinstalled Windows XP without erasing my HDD. The only partition I use is the C:/ drive.

Is there any fast and easy HDD wiper I can use?

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.

The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image.

What is the reason?
Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.

A:System image on External hard drive is not accesible while restoring PC from image

Your system may not be able to see usb devices at boot. Check in bios for a setting that enables USB at boot. If there isn't such a setting, and if your system is fairly old and can't see the device, you'll have to copy the image to a separate partition on the hd.

Before I re-imaged my laptop, I made sure to do a backup of personal files + a system image in case things went wrong.

The imaging was successful, and now, the new Win7 OS recognizes the old backup as a backup from another computer (as it should).

However, is it possible to manage this old backup? (manage => edit)

Now that I don't need the old system image, I would prefer to get rid of it ... plus, I created a backup for my current image so there's quite a bit of space used by backup files..

A:Managing a backup from a previous image (eg. deleting system image)

Should be able to just delete it, but more detail is needed for the best answer.

I have read about 50 threads in regard to the topic. I'm just looking for clarity here. I have a homebuilt system that got a virus Alureon.gen!k. Before researching it I let windows fix it. Computer won't open any applications now.
Decided to go to my Image to save time (NOT!). The image is on a USB external HDD currently attached directly to the computer. I can't get it to find the bleepin' Image!

The HDD was attached to an NAS over the network where it saved my windows images and backup files from the NAS. The drive's structure looks like this:

E: R6 Backup
Office Server
Office WindowsImageBackup MediaID.bin Data Drive Backup Files

Inside the Office folder are three items: Office, WindowsImageBackup, and a MediaID.bin. The Office folder has file backups. The WindowsImageBackup contains the expected image folders and files.

I understand from the threads that the WindowsImageBackup needs to be in the root of E: so I have done this two ways, neither of whiched worked. First I simply renamed the Root Office folder, and then I undid the rename and moved the WindowsImageBackup out of the Office folder and into the root of E:.

Windows sees the drive. Within the recovery you have the option under advanced to load drivers. I was doing this trying to use eSata to no avail so I switched to USB where you c... Read more

I recently had problems with BSOD. I was able to fix the underlying cause, but this got me nervous. So I am thinking of starting a program of periodically creating system images of my laptop - both the C & D drives - so that I could restore my system in the event of hardware failure. Make sense?
I have some questions to make sure that I understand the underlying System Image & Repair disk process, & also when I would use a Windows 7 ISO image.
(1) Am I correct that when I restore from a system image of both C & D drives, that both drives are **totally** recreated?
(2) Will I still have a legal copy of Windows 7 when I restore using the system image?
(3) Should I make sure that I have a repair disk before I restore from system image? If so, why?
(4) Is it necessary to periodically recreate a repair disk? Or once a repair disk is created, it is good for any future repair that may be needed?
(5) There are sites where one can download a Windows 7 ISO image.
    (i) Am I correct that restoring from this image just installs Windows 7 and no other programs?
(ii) Will I still have a legal copy of Windows 7 when I restore using a Windows 7 ISO image?
(iii) When would I restore using a Windows 7 ISO image rather than restoring from a System Image?
(iv) What is the recommended site to download a Windows 7 ISO image?

A:Windows 7 - System Image, Repair Disk, & ISO Image Questions

Users have (at least) two ways to go to overcome those unforeseen problems that occur.
a.  Make clones of the hard drive reflecting the O/S.
b.  Use backup software which creates a file which can be restored, item for item.
I have done both at some time...right now, I prefer making a clone of my O/S (dual-boot) partitions...while backing up data files on extra hard drives I have lying around.  User preference determines whether a user backs up...or creates a cloned image.
You might take a look at Macrium Reflect, a program that seems to do each pretty well.
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download - http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
Those ISO files of Windows 7...are covered by this pronouncement here at BC:  Recommending ISOs of Windows Recovery Discs or pre-made ISOs of WinPE-BartPE - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic382841.html .
In addition to being illegal...those .iso files...or any file NOT obtained from a legal, authorized source...are subject to reflect code, errors, malware...or something else that the user has not bargained for, IMO.  If I were a malware misanthrope...that would be my favorite vector...giving an unknowing public something "for free" that they have no desire to legitimately obtain.
