No Sound from speakers only from reflex subwoofer

Q: No Sound from speakers only from reflex subwoofer

Hi,

I just upgraded my HP dv7-1135ea from Vista to Windows 7 RC and the speakers are not producing sound, only the reflex subwoofer at the base of the laptop is producing sound.

Is there something I can do to get the speakers working? While installing Windows 7, the installation complained of a compatibility issue with Quick Launch Buttons, could this be the reason for the abnormal behaviour and what can I do to rectify this?

Please help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all this is my first post here..

First of all I have an Acer 5943G model laptop. I have a weird issue since yesterday when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. Everything is working fine except that all sound is coming from the subwoofer speaker beneath the laptop instead of the R L speakers above the keyboard.

I have downloaded and updated the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers etc and have gone through the sound settings time and time again to ensure that everything is right. Everything is indeed right in the settings so I really don't know what else I can do to be able to fix this problem. I know this is not a hardware issue because the speakers were working fine on Windows 7.

I have also plugged in my headphones to test the sound that way and it works as it should, I do get stereo sound on my headphones.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated as I really don't know how to fix this after spending hours on it. Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop sound coming from subwoofer instead of RL speakers.

Check to see if the PC came with any Sound Enhancement, such as Dolby, SoundBlaster MB, etc. Could be one of those is not Windows 10 compatible and causing the problem, or may just a configuration.

One other thing you can try, even though you downloaded the Realtek. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Realtek sound entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of problems and may take care of yours.

Hi Lenovo and everyone, I have two issues with the sound of my Y700-15ISK:I.When any Realtek driver is installed that includes support for the subwoofer, a high pass filter is applied on the main stereo speakers, making sound poorer and more mono-like, especially with enhanced bass using an equalizer.(High pass filter removes low bass frequencies from the main stereo speakers.)(When the default Microsoft driver is installed that does not have subwoofer support, no high pass filter is applied on the main stereo speakers.)Is there a way to disable the high pass filter? I would like bass to come from the main stereo speakers as well. I see no such option on any of the available GUIs, is there such an option from a Command Line Interface? If there is no such option currently, could you put this option in a subsequent driver release, or simply remove the high pass filter from the driver? If you do not have the resources to do so, could you enable us to modify the driver source code and create a custom driver without high pass filter? I am sure the community would love the enhanced music coming from this and similar laptops using the updated driver.(Win 10 or Win7) II.Only on Win7:Subwoofer is out of sync with the main stereo speakers resulting in echo.Happens using Lenovo's Win7 64-bit, Win10 64-bit, and Realtek's generic driver as well. Could you guys fix this? Does anyone have a solution for these? Thanks,Andras

Hi! I have a Dell that is about 6 years old. It still runs wonderfully though. But right now...something funny is going on with my speakers. They are Altec Lansing ones that connect to a subwoofer that has a fuse. Just recently, the speakers will not play the sounds/music at the correct volume. Times when the music should be ridiculously loud, it is not, but will jump to the correct volume for a few split seconds. I was thinking maybe after 6 years, the fuse in the subwoofer needs to be changed?

All of the cords and things are properly connected and everything. Just started happening out of the blue.

Thanks!

hi all im a complete new person at this sort of thing and have got a logitech z-2300 speaker system and i want to put a better subwoofer in it is it as simple and straight forward as taking the old one out and putting the new one in? btw recommendations would be nice its an 8" and 200watt rms 400 watt peak speaker thanks

A:subwoofer /speakers

It depend on why you want to put a 'better' sub in it and what you see as better. For example, higher watts on a 8" sub is not going to give very much lower bass because the size of the cone limit the lowness of the bass. So yes, if you can explain what you want to accomplish it will help

hi,
how to connect subwoofer speakers to PC ?

A:subwoofer speakers

There are many ways to do this. The very best and simplest way to do it is to go out and buy a speaker set with a subwoofer for your computer. I have seen sets for as cheap as 30 bucks.

If you wanna connect a regular home stereo subwoofer to your computer you need two things. If the subwoofer is from home stereo or theater system and it has an male rca connector all you need are two things.

1. A mini jack splitter
2. A mini jack (male) to rca (female) converter cable.

Thats preaty much it. If you're really into music or movies or you just really want your stuff to sound good I recommend a speaker set from creative labs and a sound blaster card from creative labs. Their stuff is top notch you can't go wrong with creative labs stuff.

I have a Dual XPE2700 400 Watt 2-channel amplifier, and am currently running two 6x9 polk audio 125 watt rms and 300 watt max speakers.. As of now, the amp is plenty powerful..can my amp I power an MTX TM1004 10" 200w rms 600 watt peak power subwoofer in addition to those two speakers??

A:Will my car amp power my speakers and subwoofer?

Yes the amp you have will power the speakers but only provide 400W shared between all of them. By adding extra speakers to the circuit, your 6x9's may not be as loud as they were previously.

You should pay close attention to the resistance level of how you wire the speakers. A 4 Ohm stable amplifier will not drive speakers wired for 2 Ohm. A 2 Ohm speaker configuration will pull too much power from a 4 Ohm amplifier. I've not looked up the specifications for the amp you mentioned, just remember to keep the speaker resistance above the capabilities of the amp.

Hey all,

I'm in need of help here with my 5.1 speakers. I just recently changed to a 5.1 Sonic Gear 4000 set of speakers and I believe i have plug in the jacks correctly - based on and online guide, using the Line in, Line Out and Microphone slots.

However, the issue is now there is no bass and the subwoofer is not working. Whenever i do a test of the sounds, the front, rear and center speakers work but there's no any reaction/sound from the subwoofer. Tried using I Tunes, VLC and even videos from youtube. The speakers all work except for theres no bass.

I hope someone can help me here and sort this problem.

I have read up a number of post in this forum to see if there's any related issues but cant really find the appropriate one.

The motherboard that i'm using is Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS.

I have a motherboard H61M-DG3/USB3 with inbuilt Realtek (5.1 CH HD Audio (Realtek ALC662 Audio Codec) and am trying to get it to work correctly with my Cambridge SoundWorks FourPointSurround 4.1 speakers.

(I previously had a X-Fi XtremeGamer card but no using it as my old motherboard died and the new one can't support a separate audio card).

In RealTek HD Audio Manager, there's no 4.1 option. Instead there are:
Quadrophonic
5.1 Speakers
With the first, there's no sub-woofer output at all, unsurprisingly. The front and rear speakers worked fine when tested by clicking the individual speakers in the graphic on the right hand of the control panel.

I then tried 5.1, but in the "Optional Speakers" pane, I turned "Center" off and both "Subwoofer" and "Rear Pair" on, hoping I would get output on my front and rear speakers and my subwoofer.

The front and rear speakers do work fine, but there is no subwoofer sound at all.

Is this because the Realtek card expects the subwoofer input to be on a separate cable? When I look at the "Jack Information" pane of the speaker properties, I see the following:

"C Sub (()) (pink jack socket) Rear Panel 3.5mm Jack"

Now, the Cambridge SoundWorks FourPointSurround 4.1 speakers simply have a front and rear jack. Both of these cables go into the subwoofer itself, to which are connected the four cables for the front and rear speakers. The subwoofer component itself doesn't have a dedic... Read more

TechSpot Users,

Don't worry, I've already did a search in this forum with the key words "Speaker buzz", and nothing of significance showed up. So I'll try and explain my problem.

My speakers, when turned on, will produce this buzzing sound that goes like "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

And yes, it does not fluctuate, not in a cyclic sense, it's just a single tone of "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

Now, the odd thing about this is, if I unplug the Audio Jack to my Laptop, the speakers will still produce that sound, regardless if it is plugged in or not. My laptop is appxorimately a good 30 centimeters from each speaker, and the woofer is underneath the table. Also, no, my Laptop's WI-FI is turned off. If I do turn it on, I get the occassional random inteference, but that's not what's causing the problem. My network runs on cables too.

Now, to clarify more things, if I use headphones, and plug it in to the audio jack, the sounds are perfectly crisp and clear, with no signs of buzzings whatsoever. (This is how I rule out that it's not a sound card problem)

If you're wondering whether my speakers work, yes, they work perfectly fine. Everything works as it is, but if I don't turn it up loud enough, even in the background, I can hear that buzzing sound, which really annoys me. Here's an interesting fact to help, if I turn on my desk lamp, the buzzing gets signi... Read more

i've had a similar issue with my altecs, from my (admittedly crude) tests, it seems to be an issue caused by poorly shielded wiring in the speakers. however i have heard a very slight buzzing when i use my pair of headphones that uses alot of power. i got my set around the same time as you so maybe there was a bad batch.
you said your laptop wi-fi is turned off, is your wi-fi router is still on? or do you happen to have a cell phone or a cordless phone within 10-15 feet? lastly are they plugged directly in to the wall socket? i found that when i switched to a good quality UPS the hum in my set went down significantly.

in my set the problem didnt start until after my system had been surged during a storm (no damage, not even to my surge protector, but it did cause a restart). so maybe its damage...
hope this helps a bit,

I have an Altec-Lansing speakers ACS40 and subwoofer ACS250 system that came with a Gateway 2000 PC that I purchased in 1995. And has worked with every computer I'ved used since, the last having XP Home Edition.
However they do not seem to work with my new Dell with WIN7. Any advice?

A:Altec-Lansing Speakers and Subwoofer not working on new Dell with WIN7

Exactly is the 20 year old Altec Lansing speaker system? Back then many PC sound systems were different.

Are these speakers analog with built in power amplifier? (needed for current PC speaker systems). Or are they non powered as many older sound cards had power amplification on the sound card. And then there were the Gateway PC's that used digital speaker systems (and that digital type is not compatible with current PC digital connections).

What is the Dell PC Model number (such as Inspiron 310, etc). One with a 32 bit OS would suggest an older Dell as most (all that I've seen) new PC's come with 64 bit OS.

Hi guys...
I just plugged my Onkyo 6.1 Channel (S-680) to my computer. I connected the receiver to the Digital Out port of my motherboard (Intel 915GV Chipset-Asus PTGD1 - LA). It uses the Realtek ALC880 drivers. Whenever I open Sound Effect Manager and do the Speaker Test, sound comes only from my front speakers. The rears/centre/sub all light up but no sound is played. However, while running games/music/films I get sound from all my speakers (though not very satisfactory and not real surround sound). Can anyone please help me with this?

Also, I can't open Realtek HD Audio Manager (RTHDCPL.exe). Only RTLCPL.exe (Sound Effect Manager) works. When I click on RTHDCPL.exe nothing happens. Please do help out.

Thanks.

A:No Sound From Surround/Centre/Subwoofer In Realtek Sound Effect Manager Test

try this:

1) try to go to the settings of your sound effect manager & there are selections there for 2.0,2.1.5.1 or what ever you may find that corresponds to your speaker channel.

2) if nothing corresponds to the given selections, try to download the latest audio driver from your motherboard's manufacturer website.

3) otherwise, you need to plug-in a sound card that has the feature to play with 6.1 channel audio.

Hey,

So i have on-board realtek HD audio card (6 jack) with my 5.1 system connected via 3 jacks (front , surround & sub). The problem is that i've just run the auto calibration thing with the microphone and it worked fine and calibrated all of my speakers, but now my subwoofer doesnt work with ANY playback at all inc. movies and music etc.

My system automatically does its own "speaker fill" if just a stereo input is connected - which is what it was until i performed the calibration tool. And i know that all of the jacks are connected in the proper place because when i go into settings - (the screen where you can click on each individual speaker to test them), they all work fine.

I've noticed that if i use the EQ tool in WMP and turn it all to the max, i get some bass through - but only the real low-freq. stuff. It's not outputting the full range.

Like i said about my system working with just a stereo input - currently i can leave Front and Surround plugged in and unplug the Sub / Center cable - but then , obviously, i lose the speech as its coming from the center speaker.

Please help
Thanks

EDIT: Oh and also - everytime i download the realtek drivers for it - it says "This file cannot be unpacked.." so i googled that problem and tried installing windows installer 3.1 - which then told me i haven't got enough storage to perform the request. ??

When I play a media file, I can see the sound gage go. So I went in sounds, playback device, and all I see in there is my sound card, no speakers or headphones icon. Thus no sounds from speakers. Tried other headphones/speakers they also dont work on the PC.

First two screenshots are my Device Manager, third one shows my playback devices.. My wife needs this for her business and I am losing sleep over this for days now I tried everything. Any ideas?

What sound card do you have?

Double-click on the HD audio device in Device Manager - what is driver and date?

Usually there is an audio codec/ drivers, e.g., IDT, Realtek, etc... that must be installed.

What are system specs - exact model number from label on back of PC, please.

My speakers are 5.1 and this motherboard which i bought, has 7.1-CHannel, so i wanted connect my speakers as 5.1 system and use for gaming....
Problem is that SUBWOOFER IS NOT PLAYING. Hello. Dell does not support Windows 8.1 or 10 on the XPS L502x model and cautions that you might lose some functionality if you do run Win10. There is no Dell-provided audio driver for your laptop with Windows 10.
However you should be able to install the Realtek audio driver for Windows 8 with no problem.
If there is a problem, try to install the driver with Compatibility mode:
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for Win8.

I just received my new custom built L501X on Tuesday (30th Nov) and I have the exact same problem.  It is a minor clicking / popping noise that occurs seemingly at random whether I am on the desktop, running an application or even playing a game.  I noticed it first coming from the built in speakers but now have external speakers plugged in and can hear it coming though them as well.  Also when wearing headphones it is quite noticable so I have to assume it is something to do with the sound card.  It's not the worst thing in the world but as with any new expensive long term purchase like a laptop we want it to be as perfect as possible.
Same basic observations as the above post.  I have also tried disabling the built in mic as I figured this might be
causing some interference but popping noise still occurs.  One thing I have noticed is that the noise seems to occur much more frequently when I am navigating around "my computer" or when I am working in the control panel windows.  I also notice the popping noise just before the windows sound effect when I click to transition back or forth into folders and then it will always occur again 4 seconds after.
Aha....I think I might have actually just solved the problem while writing this!!  I have gone into control panel, sounds, and turned off the sound effect for "start navigation" and presto...I'm not hearing the click at all any more.  Will have to see if... Read more

I setup a subwoofer to run from the pc from the orange hole to the sub via a 3.5mm to rca cable. I can't get it to play sound from any other program other than pandora, battlefield and youtube. VLC, netflix, mediamonkey all ignore the sub and don't use it. My speakers are connected to the computer through the green hole to the t amp (no sub out on the amp). I tried downloading my audio drivers but I get an error saying "can't find hd audio device". My motherboard is a gigabyte gaz77xd3h running on the latest f18i bios. When i was on 7 the drivers worked fine, but on 8.1 they don't install. I've tried the original version that came with the mobo and the most recent one and both don't work.

A:No sound in subwoofer when using mediamonkey, vlc, netflix

You apparently are trying to circumvent the speaker setup with the separate bass speaker. Audio systems are set up to feed audio based on how you have your speakers set up (e.g. 2.1 stereo , 5.1, etc). As you apparently have a 2.1 (or 2.0) speakers connected to the green speaker jack, what do you have the speaker type set as?

In multiple speaker setups such as a 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, etc although there are separate connections to the speaker jacks, its really controlled internally in the speaker system, not separate like you want to do it. What you are doing may work with some functions but its not the correct/legitimate setup.

Hello,
i have important question, which is annoying me all day yet. I really dont know what to do yet. I have problem with my 5.1 audio speakers ( Genius sw-hf 5.1 4500 ,230V-EU ) . I am daily using windows 10 and i had my speakers connected to pc as stereo /2xcinch to 3,5mm jack connected to line-out conector/ . Everything worked fine.

My speakers are 5.1 and this motherboard which i bought, has 7.1-CHannel, so i wanted connect my speakers as 5.1 system and use for gaming....
Problem is that SUBWOOFER IS NOT PLAYING. I tried couple times reinstall couple drivers from realtek or check and connect speakers different way but i still didnt figure it out and its really annyoing yet. I installed windows 7 on second HDD but even in win7 is not working too! When i am using stereo then is everything fine...

Right now i have connected my speakers like this :
-subwoofer+central by reduction (which i did buy specially because wasnt in package with speakers) 2xcinch-3,5mm jack connected to CS-Out
-rear same reduction connected to RS-Out
-front same reduction connected to Line-Out

In realtek HD Audio Manager i choosed 5.1 , when i was connecting speakers i ticked what i am connecting ,but when i connected front into Line-Out it didnt pop-up any window to confirm that speakers (but they are playing) ..

When i am ticking choice ,,swap center/subwoofer output, subwoofer is playing center sound and i feel basses, so subwoofer is working, its not physical y broken,.

Hello, I own a HP Pavilion DV7 1183cl laptop with the following specs:

Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
2GB RAM
Radeon 9800M GT w/512MB

I've recently run into this problem:

Yesterday (5/13/2011), Windows told me I needed to install some critical updates. I installed them and restarted. When I restarted, I noticed that the mute button on my touchbar was red and wouldn't turn back to the on color.

I logged into Windows and tried playing some Youtube videos and stuff to see if the sound was working. It turns out it was, but the sound was only coming out of the subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop and sounded TERRIBLE. When I plug in my headphones it sounds fine except the volume doesn't go as loud as it did before. Pressing the mute button does mute the sound, but it still stays red no matter what.

So I tried resotring my system back to a point when the speakers were working to see if it was a hardware problem, and it turns out it's not. When I restore to an earlier point, the speakers work fine. The problem, however, is for some stupid reason I can't login at the restore point. I just know the speakers work because the error sound comes out of the Altec Lansings on the front, and the mute button actually changes colors.

I've spent the last 3 hours trying everything I can think of. I've downloaded new IDT High Def Audio Drivers, I've uninstilled them in hardware manager and let it reinstall itself, messed with every setting I can think... Read more

New 17 R3 delivered today.  No subwoofer.  Really subpar sound from working front speakers.  However, headphones work well and eq works great with them.
Is there a chance that the subwoofer isn't connected?  No sound at all coming from it.
Checked device manager and everything is fine.  Tried installing driver from Dell found in my account.  Still no subwoofer sounds at all, not even a crackle.
Seems weird for a new AW build to be missing subwoofer functionality.

I recently bought a creative 5.1 sound system for my pc, but every now and then (usually when a new screen opens) the sub woofer makes a noise.
Ive tried several things and I think ive narrowed it down to windows sound effect or sound card. The sound effect is when there is a screen change which is being detected and played by the bass woofer. I'm not sure where I would find this in the control panel I have looked and cant see where to disable.
Regarding the sound card, if your monitor has built in speakers and your sound card is getting confused between the different systems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

A:Sound issue -- noise coming from subwoofer

I think you can find all the Windows sounds under Control Panel->Sound->Sounds tab. You can select a system sound and then hit the Play button (it's the right arrow button) to play and hear it through your speakers. Don't know why you're having the problem but is one way to check system sound playback

Hi there, So I recently had to get my Harddrive replaced, and OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) reinstalled through a company. However on return of the laptop, my sound and other things were messed up.  (Dell XPS L502X)- WavesMaxx Buttons not working/ no MaxxAudio- Sound appears to only come out of the central subwoofer, despite not failing any hardware tests. Its almost like the L n R treble speakers are being ignored. Something is majorly unbalanced. - Fn Keyboard Functions not working. -  e.g I cant turn the Wifi  on/off or lock my touchpad. Given the company (caused a huge faff with a ton of screw ups on their part to even get my laptop back I really don't want to take it back to them) I decided to try and fix some things myself. - Used the utilities disk to reinstall Quickset64 which now means that the Waves Button Now works to bring up MaxxAudio, but the speakers still aren't working and the EQ sliders don't change anything. - Tested using Dells 32 bit hardware diagnosis, and no errors, but the LnR still seems to be coming out of the Subwoofer located in the centre during the test play. - Deleted and reinstall all the realtek drivers from both the utilities disk, AND the Dell website. And basically I still haven't manage to fix the problem. - Headphones output  has always worked completely fine. These issues did not exist before the OS reinstall, so I thought it was drivers, but now I really have... Offshot1stnot that you'd even need to take the speakers out to change the harddrive...
True, but do have to remove the palm rest assembly. It could be that they didn't know how to get to the hard drive and took the whole thing apart.
Offshot1stI'm at a loss as to what to test next, without literally taking the whole laptop apart physically and checking the speakers haven't been plugged in wrong
That's what you would have to do if you want to fix it yourself and don't want to take it somewhere to be worked on. You can download the XPS L502x Service Manual which has clear instructions for disassembly.
Offshot1stTested using Dells 32 bit hardware diagnosis, and no errors, but the LnR still seems to be coming out of the Subwoofer located in the centre during the test play.
The audio part is interactive. If you don't hear the music coming through the speakers during the test, then that is the error. If it were a software problem that you could fix with drivers etc., you would hear audio as expected during the test.

Hi. I recently ordered a Frisby FS-5020BT, along with an Optimal Shop 5.1 external sound card. For some reason, stereo audio doesn't redirect low frequency sounds to the subwoofer channel and instead only utilizes the front left and right speakers. When playing 5.1 content, such as a Blu-Ray movie, all 5 channels and the subwoofer are used, like they are supposed to. When I run the sound test in audio playback devices options, the subwoofer does vibrate. Is there some driver I need to install to get stereo audio to utilize the subwoofer, or will I just have to get used to no real bass when playing music from YouTube? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Guys!

I hope I'll get an useful answer here!

My problem is that i don't get any bass out of my subwoofer, my system (as i configurate) recognizes my subwoofer, but as soon as i listen to music there's no sound coming out of it!
My other speakers work, but only the bass is missing!

I wanted to install the console launcher from CD, but in Setup windows said "couldn't find any compatible hardware. Setup will be closed"

But i do not find any latest console launcher in Creative technical support, that's compatible with my Live 24 bit soundcard.

I started this thread, because i couldn't contact any other user who's problem was solved ^^

Hi everybody.

Well i have a stereo 5.1 system by Creative, version SBS 580.
When i first got the computer everything was fine, then my brother bought those headphones, so we didnt use the speakers at all.
so after about 1-2 years without use i plugged them in and tried to use them.
The problem occured was that only the subwoofer worked, none of the speaked did,
and the subwoofer only worked at the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" program.
I tried reading forums of creative, tried to connect the system to the computer in many ways, all of the ways give me the same result, only the subwoofer produces sound.
the way creative's guide say to connect the speakers is like that :
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting
The program that im using is "Realtek HD Audio Manager" :
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting

so when i play this play button, only the subwoofer makes the sound, non of the speakers. All of them are connected to the subwoofer correctly, they are turned on.
no technical problems.

Is it a driver's problem?

Please help me, Im exhausted...

A:Surround 5.1 problem, Only subwoofer produces sound

As the subwoofer also contains the amplifier(s) and routing of sound, I would suspect that is where the problem is.

You can verify that you are getting audio output from each of the three PC sound connections by hooking a headset to each output and playing audio. If you hear audio (it will only be that channel) from each output then that isolates the problem to the speaker system. On the other hand, if you do not hear audio from all the jacks, make sure 5.1 is set in the Sound Panel, playback section. Click on the speakers icon to highlight it and then click on the Configure button and select 5.1. If that doesn't fix it, reinstall the PC Vendor or motherboard if its a home built system, RealTek audio drivers. They will work better than non-Vendor drivers.

Hi, hope you guys can help/guide me out.

So I receive a gift a couple of months ago, but did not have the chance to test it until now.

I have a set of audio speakers+sub-woofer, if you take a look at the pics (specially the back.jpg) the speakers are connected through a RCA cable, and where says input its a 3.5mm cable that goes into the computer (speakers output)

Now when I connected them to the PC, the sub-woofer and right speakers works fine, but the left is not producing audio at all. I find out that both speakers are working fine if I connected them in the red output/R, seems the left one is not working. At first I thought it was config of my PC I did download the latest drivers from Realtek Website, I tried the ones that comes from the DVD/Motherboard (ASROCK H81M-HDS) and same issue. I tried multiple settings from the audio devices (5.1 surround, quadraphonic, stereo) but no success.

Finally what I did is that I connected the system to my Galaxy S3 smartphone and another audio system as well and I have the same issue, no audio coming from the output Left/White, Subwoofer is working fine, and output/Red(Right) is working fine. I'm not sure if its due to the fact that system receives the signal from a 3.5mm cable and then has to send it through 3 outputs (L/R RCA speakers and the subwoofer)

What I'm trying to find out is, if this something related to the audio system itself, or does the PC and S3 need a configuration?
In case is something related (hardware) of the a... Read more

A:Audio 2.1 Speakers+Subwoofer, one speaker not outputting audio

As the speakers do the same thing on two different systems it says there is a problem with the speaker system. I see RCA connectors on the rear for the two speakers. Switch the connections (connect the right speaker to the Left jack and the left speaker to the right jack) and see if it follows the speaker or if its the Left output from the speaker base. That will isolate where the problem is. If its the speaker base unit, the problem could be the cable that connects to the PC or it could be an internal amplifier problem. However, in either case if the speaker system is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer for warranty assistance.

In most cases these are not made to be repaired, but I see screws holding the back on, the base unit, and you may be able to get into the electronics. However, without a schematic you are probably not going to find any problems.

So, here's my issue. I have Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500 speakers. I originally had them connected to my computer via a single line. So, I took the inputs from the speakers' console and directly connected everything to my computer. Now, I have surround sound (Wahoo!). But, the subwoofer only works when I'm configuring through the Control Panel. But, when I play music, I get zero sound from it.

Also, I have to set the properties in Sound to 7.1 to get all 5 speakers working. And the sub still works when running the test in 7.1 too. I've gone through every program that I can find on my computer that relates to sound and have set everything to 5.1 for now. I don't understand why I don't have sound from my subwoofer.

A:Subwoofer plays when configuring sound, but not when playing music.

Hi ruste84,

Since the speakers are producing 'surround sound' while configuration, it appears that the 'audio track' that you are trying to listen to is a standard '2 channel audio file'. You may try a digitally encoded 'surround sound audio' (a retail DVD with known 5.1 audio) to check if the 'speakers' work as desired.

If the issue persists, please confirm that the physical connections of the 'speakers' are setup properly. For reference, you may want to have a look at the recommended 'setup' for the motherboard installed 'ASUS Crosshair IV Formula'.
Also use the 'X-Fi CMSS-3D Panel' to configure 3D virtual surround effects. (Reference image below)
Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Hello. Have you listened for the crackling through headphones? If the noise is not in the 'phones, only in the speaker, then probably the speaker needs to be replaced. This is particularly likely if the issue happens with both Win7 and 8, and with different audio drivers.

You can find the instructions for replacing the speaker on page 75 of the XPS L502x Service Manual.
