yoga 700 restart problem

Q: yoga 700 restart problem

Hi I just bought the new yoga 700 but its having trouble restarting. When I click restart the screen turns off but the keyboard stays lit up and so does the light beside the power button. It says like this until I hard reset it by holding in the power button. This only happens with restart shut off is fine. Does anyone know how to fix this or is it a hardware problem? ps. All drivers and bios are up to date

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It could be stil completing Windows update in the background, which may take time to complete, therefore, leaving only the keyboard on. Can you check this?

Hello, We just purchased a Yoga 12 for one of our administrators in our district.  It has a core i7 proc, 256SSD, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 x64.  While it works fine most of the time, when the system restarts, it starts to load windows but the screen goes black.  None of the keys on the keyboards work.  The computer itself is powered on, but there is nothing on the display until you touch the screen.  The lock screen then comes up, but you still can't use the keyboard until you swipe up the lock screen.  I thought maybe some driver issue but the event logs aren't showing anything.  The laptop isn't in tablet mode. Any ideas about this? thanks, Michael

A:Yoga 12 Black Screen on restart

In response to customer reports of black screens after restart on Yoga 12 laptops running Windows 10, Lenovo has released a Service TIP.

It can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/HT116649

Please note the tip lists the screen swipe as a work around, pending a permanent fix.

Thank you,

Turned on my laptop this morning. Worked fine. Went to try and use my printer to scan something to my laptop. Turned on printer and came back to my laptop not working. It is just turning on and off again. The power button and keyboard backlight just flash on and off repetitively.  Tried searching forums for a solution. Heres what I've tried so far:Laptop not connected to power sourceUnplugged batteryUnplugged CMOS (CR2016) batteryPlugged laptop in and still getting same restart issue Ive tried holding down power button and small button above it to no avail. I also tried hooking it to power source with main battery disconnected and CMOS battery connected. Always same issue: repetitive restart with no boot. Printer has been turned off throughout the whole troubleshooting process but worked fine with the wifes laptop after mine pooped the bed.  Anyone got a solution or idea?

Recently on two occasions my Yoga 920 has shut down after I got up and was no longer using it.    I was not on line and and the laptop should have entered sleep mode.     Windows 10 pro.   When I returned to the laptop, I could not restart it and on both occasions, the bottom felt extremely hot.  Not so hot that I couldn't touch it but much hotter than I've ever felt it before.  Certainly uncomfortablly hot if was sitting on your lap. After about 20 minutes it restarted and ran normally.    It appears that some action is causing it to run and overheat.   During the period when i could not restart it, I unplugged it from power and noticed that the small led on the power button was blinking.    I called Lenovo support after the second incident and have scheduled  to send it in for service.   I ran Lenovo Companion software and checked for updates but it says everything is current. Just reporting in case anyone else has seen this. Thanks.

Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

Hi,For about 3 months now my laptop keeps restarting at random, sometimes several times in a span of few minutes, sometimes it?s ?restart free? for several hours, but then it happens again and is accompanied by a loud pop. I?ve tried everything that I could think of (reinstalling system, drivers etc), but nothing seems to help. The problems seem to escalate when I run games, even those that do not require powerful specs such as old rpgs. One thing that I can think of that could have caused this is that I used to have a lot of tabs opened in chrome and that could put a strain on the laptop. I understand that this is probably not enough to come up with a solution so please tell me what kind of data should I supply.  Thank You

Help! I used my computer on Saturday-no problem, went to start it up yesterday and I get a prompt that says "preparing automatic repair" then it goes to a blue screen that says, your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you.
You can search online later for this error: FAT_FILE_SYSTEM as well as NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM.

It does this over and over, never goes to another screen or anything.
What can I do to fix this? I googled some other forums and have tried F8 and restarting, pulling battery and nothing worked. I left it up overnight to see if it just had to do it's thing for a few hours and woke up to it doing the same thing.
I do have windows 10, it automatically updated about a month ago. Computer is a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5200. I am not very computer detailed, I know a bit about them but not all of this technical stuff.

Anyone have any suggestions!? Thanks in advance!!

Hi Guys - I have just bought a new hard drive, formatted it, done a clean install of Windows XP Home and service pack 2, but now whenever I go to restart the machine it comes up with 'Error loading operating system'. It boots normally from being turned off. Basically, 'C' is set as Drive 0 (which is set as first in boot priorities with no other booting devices) and I have a second hard drive 'E' as Drive 1. I looked in disk management and C was set as 'system' while E was 'active'. Could it be anything to do with this?

Any help much appreciated!

This problem occurred with RC too (which is why I 'upgraded' and reinstalled):

If the PC does a 'Restart', it gets stuck on the 'Starting Windows' screen (i.e. the animated Windows logo fails to appear). I then have to hold down the power button to shut down. When I restart manually, the 'Starting Windows' screen and animated Windows logo appear fine, but then I get the choice to either 'Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)' or 'Start Windows Normally'. I choose 'Start Windows Normally' and all is well.

Any ideas on why I can't do a 'Restart'? (Shut Downs are fine btw)

first welcome to SF
did you do a clean install or upgrade?
At some point you might want to consider doing a repair. It might get rid of the restart problem
If you want to try and diagnose it. go to start type event in search and click on the event viewer. see if there are any errors there relating to this problem, and if so using the snipping tool upload a snip of a couple.

Hope this helps

Hello saud alam

1. At which point of the bootup process does it shut down?
Is it after the manufacturer`s splashscreen, or after the XP logo, or where?

2. Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

3. Has anything just been installed or updated?

4. Have any changes at all just been made?

5. Are there any error messages?

So heres the deal, I have a multitude of problems from the computer I have built myself. It used to run fine but for a while its been having trouble. It will freeze randomly, and in trying to fix this problem I may have made things worse. I cannot get my computer to boot properly. Ill start it and it will work but whenever I try and run a tool that checks for problems on restart once it powers down it fails to boot up. Nothing no screen flashes no nothing. When I try to run system restore it gives me an error "Catastrophic Error ( cyclic error) something like that. I really would like to get this fixed, I've put a lot of money into this computer. I feel like if I could just get it to be able to restart I could try and fix the problem easier.

A:Hello, Please help, Restart Problem...

First I would try to reload the NIC drivers. Go into the Device Manager, find the entry for the NIC, right-click it and select uninstall. Reboot and see if this helps. If not, go the the NIC manufacturer's website and download the newest drives and use them.

If those don't work, buy a new NIC ... they are cheap.

I am having a problem when I select the restart button at shutdown. The computer will restart and go to the normal password window. At this point, the system locks. You have to push the reset button on the case or completely shut the system down via the power button. The HJT forum suggested I run this command: sfc /scannow. It requests for me to insert the Windows XP installation disk. The PC was purchased for me in another state. The Windows XP software was not given to me at this time.

What do I need to do to fix this issue?

I was working at my computer and suddenly a blue screen popped up (see screenshots). (UGH!).
This comps about 9 months old, maybe. I know they can fail out of the box. I'm on my little tablet to post this.
It's been on this screen that says it needs to gather data then will restart, saying 100% complete, for over 30 minutes now, and it hasn't restarted.
What should I do?
On the blue screen at the very bottom, it reads:
What failed: igdkmd64.sys
Windows did that long April update the other day, and I suspect this is related to that.
Unfortunately when I got the computer, I wasn't able to create a back up because shortly after that my external hard drive crashed. I've just gotten another one, but this happened before I could contact you all, to learn how to do back up (since it says back up for windows 7 though this refurbished came with windows 10 OS), so I don't have a back up.

What do I do. Clearly she's not going to restart like the screen says. Seems I have no choice but to say a prayer and hit the power button....but wanted to check here first.
Thanks.

Recently I've been having a problem with my PC: it restarts for no apparent reason, especially when I initiate some task such as opening a new webpage or program. It started a few weeks ago and I thought nothing of it, as my PC has a tendency to miraculously find its way into--and then back out of--the weirdest situations. But it got to the point on Friday at which I couldn't use it at all. So, thinking it may have been a virus of some sort, I went ahead and formatted my hard drive. I was running only one hard drive with an OS, so if there was a virus it would be on there, and a format would solve my problem. I soon found that the problems were persisting, and soon it got so problematic that I couldn't even boot the computer up at all. The first time I would start it it would tell me that my CPU frequencies were badly adjusted before and ask me to reset them. Then I would do that and when I saved and exited, the computer would leave me with a blank screen. Fiddling with the BIOS, I eventually figured out thtat setting the CPU-RAM frequency ratio to 1:1 instead of "auto" let me get farther. Once I had got past the initial boot screen, I was presented with this message:

Whenever i attempt to use my video driver in more then a standard way (viewing a video, playing a game like warcraft 3) the computer flickers and restarts. I turned off restart at system failure, and the error message was stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. The associated dll file causing the corruption is sisgrv.dll, which i believe is my video driver. I tried to reinstall the video driver of mobo manufacturer website, but it did not help at all. The processor is an amd athlon xp 2800+, 1 gig of ram, asrock k7s41. I bought the computer several months ago and it had been working find up until now. I ran a pc doctor thing (pc mighty max, the demo version) and it gave me some errors, the only severe one is that theres a corrupt start up file in the system32 folder (dumprep 0 or something to that effect). You have to pay to have it repair the problem, so i havent done that yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Restart Problem

If the problem is limited to a dll file in the system32 folder, you can enter your windows disk, boot from it and go into the recovery console.
Do a copy of the file from the disk and write over ther corrupt file, this should fix that much of the problem.

And the only way to turn it back on with the monitor and keyboard working, is to take out the mobo battery. It does not turn back on without taking out the mobo battery. When I turn off the computer from windows, it shuts down fine. But i have to keep the mobo battery out for it to all start backup again. Also, when I attempt to go into the BIOS setup andmake changes, when I press Exit and Save changes the monitor and keyboard shut off but the computer is still on. If I press exist and discard changes then it continues to start up perfectly. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!! Thank you

I think most probably is your BIOS settings problem arise because when you restart the computer, the computer are entering BIOS settings and probably the settings were screwed so u need to reset it (by removing the battery).

Have you checked your BIOS settings? Any weird values or options there?
It might be a gpu settings error in the bios.

I have a AMD Phenom II X2 550 3.10ghz, for some reason it is not allowing my pc to restart, when i choose and click on restart my pc closes down and it turns back on but the monitor stays off and i have to turn it off by holding the power button. I was in the bios settings overclocking it to 3.4ghz and i saved the settings and closed bios and the pc restarted ok, i then tested it by restarting a few times and it was successful, so i went back into bios and put the settings back to normal and closed bios and guess what the same problem.

To fix this, all i done was go back into bios and changed the multiplier and voltage option from auto to x15.5 3.10ghz (which is the default multiplier and speed etc) and closed bios and restarted happily without any more hassle. When i have multiplier and voltage set to auto the default is x15.5 3.10ghz.

Any ideas ppl?????/

Hello,

I've AMD Athlon 3600+ on Asus A8N-E Motherboard with 1GB RAM.
I've installed Win7 a couple of weeks ago and it worked just fine until yesterday, when the restart problem appeared: when I try to restart the machine, it shuts down all programs and windows, but it won't restart the hardware - it hangs on the black screen, when the monitor displays "no signal", but there's no actual restart. On the first time when I push the restart button on the PC nothing happens, and only on the second push the system restarts.

I don't even know if it's a software problem, or my motherboard tricks me...

Thanks in advance!

Hi rainbringer, welcome to the forums.

Firstly what software have you recently installed? More importantly, AntiVirus, some have been known to halt the Shutdown/Restart process. Also, what build of Windows 7 are you using?

This info could be invaluable when it comes to helping solve your issue

Hello! First of all, sorry if I posted in the wrong section, but I am new to this forum and I kinda need a little help.
So, two days ago I started experiencing a problem with my PC. I turn it ON and after about 5-10 it restarts and gives me the message ""Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". If I just turn it off and on again, it works fine. But still this is very annoying.
I tried to look up this error on the internet, but I couldn`t find anything useful.
So, what can it be the problem ?

PS: This thing started two days ago when I bought a new USB wired mouse. Could this be the problem?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Firstly we need a bit more information about your PC in order to make any kind of informed response. Please provide the following:

- Exact make and model of the PC, assuming its a prebuilt system like a HP or Dell etc?
- If it is a self / custom build, please provide make and model of the motherboard, CPU, RAM, harddrive(s), power supply etc. The more information the better.

For some basic information please download the TSG System Information Utility (linked in my signature), run it then copy and paste the information shown into a reply here.

I have recently been having a problem with restarting my computer. It no longer restarts whenever I click Restart or when a program wants to automatically restart it, it only shuts down completely. I have Windows XP and first noticed this happening after installing Wintasks, and a new downloaded program called TuneUp Utility. I removed both these programs but it made no difference. Has anyone got any idea what could be causing this?

Use the Windows System Restore utility to restore your system state to its previous working condition.

To access System Restore

click start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore

Choose a restore date from before the problem began.

Greetings,

I have a problem, I'm new here I hope this is the right board to post it.

Pc loses power and restarts, this happens mostly while I'm watching stuff on VLC player, sometimes while doing nothing.

never happened while playing games.

I did a stability test for a few minutes and I'm posting the results. Maybe someone can spot something out of the ordinary.

The way the pc restarts makes me think its a voltage problem. But I'm no expert so I'm not sure.

my spec:

My HP PC has been having an odd issue these past few days. The computer will start and load then quickly flash a blue screen telling my that my PC ran into a problem and needs to restart, then it will go to a screen where it says it is preparing automatic repairs and then finally it will go black shortly after, with the computer still running. I thought it was a hard drive issue, and I purchased a used one from the local technical store and installed it, but this time I got a screen saying there was no boot disk has been detected. Where is this issue coming from??

A:PC ran into a problem and needs to restart

On the old hard drive, mash F8 as soon as the computer starts booting. A prompt will come up, select "Safe Mode".

Hey all,

Whenever I install a program that reboots (offers to and I select yes) the computer, or whenever I use the start menu to restart the computer, it restarts, but when I get to the login screen, it's locked up, can't move the mouse or anything. I hit the restart button on the front panel and everything is fine. Any ideas as to what it might be?
Thanks,

Vince
