Read other answersI recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

My old laptop bit the dust and I received this new one as a gift and it has everything I need, but I do wish the keys were backlit as I do a lot of my school work in dim lighting to avoid disturbing my roomate, as well as online streaming and gaming at night. Thanks in advace! I really hope I can get one installed.

You can simply remove the keyboard and disconnect the backlight ribbon cable and reinstall if you want to disable the backlight. Or just never turn it on? What is it about the backlit keyboard that you do not like?

Read other answersHello everyone,I'm new on here and I'm in the process of upgrading my laptop. Ram, ssd etc. I've seen backlit keyboards for sale claiming to be compatible and I am wondering is this a possible upgrade?Any help is welcome.Thanks.
OK here is the Service Manual: Manual The keyboards are not sold by HP as a separate part: only sold with the whole top cover. See p. 20 The Manual does not list any keyboard/top cover as having a backlight. However, the keyboard map on p. 15 shows the f5 action key as activating a backlight on "select models". From this I gather that there is a place on the motherboard to connect a backlight cable if the keyboard has one. However, extracting the old keyboard from the top cover and replacing it with just the replacement keyboard is not easy and there are no directions in the Manual for that procedure. I would want to see one of these alleged backlit keyboards. Bottom line, it is possible, but I would be leery. Do you have an f5 action key with the backlight symbol on it? Have you tried it to see if maybe your keyboard is backlit? If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

No problem. Backlight keyboard is just swapped in - no other parts.

If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task! Hi, Backlit keyboard alone won't light up, you need new motherboard (if available) which has connectors for keyboard lights. This is an expensive upgrade. Cheap option https://www.amazon.com/Sinywon-Flexible-Laptop-Keyboard-Portable/dp/B0191S9I4K Regards.

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

I am looking at buying the 15-bn070wm laptop that walmart carries with the realtree design. The laptop does not come with a backlit keyboard and I was curious if there is a way that I could purchase a ugraded backlit keyboard and install it I know some models have the backlight connector under the keyboard but they just do not come with them installed? If so what model keyboard should I purchase and would the laptop follow the HP pavilion 15 series disassembly steps?
Hi, It is much better and cheaper to buy this option now because backlit keyboard alone won't work, you need a motherboard which have ports for you to connect those lights. Buy this option now may cost you say $50, replace it later may cost you ten times or more and in many cases not-workable. Regards.
