Ideapad Z710 Turbo Boost (scam) Failure

Q: Ideapad Z710 Turbo Boost (scam) Failure

Hi,I'm just wondering a couple of years after I bought this laptop as brand new that why never the Lenovo solved the issue that the Turbo Boost never worked ever beside this model has a 4700M @ 2.4 Ghz which is 99.9% it's running at 2.38 or 2.39 Ghz BUT supposed to Turbo Boost itself by one core at 3.4 Ghz by the intel specification. Of course the Intel Turbo Boost 3.0 doesn't work it's supported by the new i5 and i7 CPUs. So what's the solution ? When it gonna be solved ? In the bios it's not possilbe to enable or disable. The only way I was able to go over the locked CPU it was the ThrottleStop only which was able to juice out 3.2 Ghz ...My question is why we got fooled by Lenovo when we bought this laptop and after we bought why this major issue wasn't solved by a BioS update or whatever else way ????

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After I updated my BIOS to 1.02, I saw the max clock was 3.9 GHZ for a few seconds and then it came back to 2.0 GHZ. The turbo boost is still turned off. There is not a option for turbo boost in BIOS menu. How can I turn on the turbo boost? Thank you for your help.

Hello,In Feb 2015 I bought a new Ideapad Z710 20250 1TB 16GB ram with win 8.1 64 preinstalled.  I always kept the original partitions being C (system OS) & D.I had a OneKey recovery/back-up in place both on local hdd & external drive being a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB.  Antivirus was a licensed fully operational AVG. Everything went smoothly until a given day in June when after a regular start-up I got a blue screen with error code 0x0000001 and the message that some vital files were missing & corrupt as well, that it wasn't possible to connect to any recovery media even when the external drive was properly connected.  Restart & Novo button always resulted in a slow looped return to the same blue screen.  The only options I could still access from the Novo menu were bios & boot order (changing priority boot to ext drive didn't help a thing).  Since then I haven't been able anymore to enter windows mode.  The other regular repair/refresh/cmd etc options were no longer available or accessible. Purchased recovery software such as NeoSmart's EasyRe & Numus Software's Data-Recov-Boot-disk both managed after a very lengthy & 'clunky' process to access the system but all repair failed or was claimed impossible & recovery of data scrambled or again impossible.  EsayRe reported repeatedly the same broken/corrupted file records during the dos repair process (I forgot to take note of the exact details). Today... A:Ideapad Z710 hard disk failure: repair or replace?

Hi VerDim,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

By the sound, This seems like a Bad HDD, I strongly suggest a Replacement via a warranty claim And this will also include a Recovery CD together with it.
You can call Lenovo Technical Team to get assistance with the HDD replacement

But If you want to really check the HDD first.
You can try running Seagate tools to check the HDD health and functionality.

Download the SeaTools for DOS ISO file
Use 7-Zip to open the SeaTools for DOS ISO file.
Extract the SeaTools.ima file to your hard drive.
Rename the SeaTools.ima file to SeaTools.img.
Use Image Writer for Windows to write the SeaTools.img image file to a USB drive on Windows.
Now you can boot off of this USB drive and run SeaTools for DOS.

When you run the USB to the Lenovo

Hello everybody. I can't get my laptop operate at CPU turbo frequency any more! I got my Z710 with windows 8.1 preloaded. The laptop came with Intel's i7 4710 MQ CPU (2.5 GHz base freq, 3.5 GHz max turbo freq) and I could let the processor go up to the turbo frequency using lenovo's pre-installed energy manager software. I then upgraded my OS to windows 10 through microsoft update, keeping the energy manager which was compatible with the new version of windows and everything kept working OK. With the energy manager's high performance option, CPU single core frequency went up to 3.49 GHz (tested with CPU-Z and Si Sandra). However, after getting a new SSD I did a clean install of windows 10 and tried to do the same thing with windows built-in power management (since lenovo doesn't provide a power manager for windows 10 as far as I know) and it doesn't work. With the "High Perdormance" option and minimum processor state = maximum processor state = 100%, the speed never goes over 2.5 GHz. Is there some extra configuration I need to make or do I need extra software like intel's XTU or something like that?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a DX58SO with an i920. In the BIOS, everything looking like Turbo Boost and Idle has been enabled to allow for full use of all these features. Yet, if in Windows I use the PerfMon and check C3 Transitions or C3 Time, I get zero. There's a tool called TMonitor which seems to tell me my CPUs (all 4) are running at around 1.6 GHz when idle. The CP frequency seems to increase when I do something, but there are still no C3 Times or Transitions. I'm wondering, is the Turbo Mode not working or is the system even continuously throttle down? Thanks for all comments in advance.

i uninstalled the driver i orgionally installed, and that dident help at all and computer is on gaming/high performance power plan. any ideas ho to fix this?

My new DELL desktop came with an Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4 GHz w/ Turbo Boost technology. The specs indicate the CPU speed can go up to 3.8 GHz. I ran a few CPU speed tests and they were disappointing.

I monitor CPU core frequency with ArgusMonitor. When CPU load is at 100% on all 4 cores / 8 threads, I get an extra 0.1 GHz boost on each core (3.5 GHz instead of 3.8 GHz). That is by design, I think; I read somewhere that, if all cores are at top speed then Turbo Boost does not kick in. So I ran a test on one logical CPU. Still not getting 3.8 GHz -- maybe because the OS distributes CPU load over multiple CPUs even when the application only uses one core?

Is there a test that can demonstrate the full Tubo Boost capabability of a CPU? That is, one that results in ArgusMonitor showing at least one core/thread running at 3.8 GHz for a short amount of time? Thanks.

A:Turbo Boost -- what gives?

My Acer laptop computer came with Intel Turbo Boost Monitor. Check your Start menu Programs for an Intel folder. I can't imagine a name brand system not having this preinstalled. I have it visible on the desktop at all times.

The processor does support turbo boost.  Does the system correctly sense the AC adapter (and are you on AC power when trying to get the system in boost mode)?  F2 at powerup to check the status of the AC adapter.
If the AC adapter shows unknown, the system will run as if on battery -- i.e., no turbo boost.

What are running to acivate turbo boost?  This is a simplification, but turbo boost is a technology that allows a single demanding process to use more than one thread's cycles to act like the clock speed is faster. It is used when other threads are not being otherwise used.  Its use depends on the right kind of work being done.

Does Turbo Boost work / Enhance Memory performance when you have a SSD Installed in Windows 8.

Finally upgraded to a SSD and was wondering if one of my spare 16 or 8 GB Flash Drives I have laying around would do anything in turbo boost? Currently have 8 GB Ram with a i3 Core Intel Chip in a Samsung Laptop.

A:Turbo Boost in Windows 8.1 with a SSD

I believe you mean ready-boost. An SSD is generally faster than a thumb drive. That fact, and Ready boost isn't much help on a PC with sufficient ram would indicate that you aren't likely to see any performance gains with it. I use it at work with a real fast thumb drive only because my machine only has 4 gigs of ram. Does it help? I still don't notice any gains. Haven't tested or anything.

Hi.
I have a 7 year old Studio XPS 8000 running on an i7 860 at 2.80 GHz. I have been informed that this CPU has a feature called Turbo Boost which will increase the clock speed to 3.46 GHz when needed. I would like to see the performance benefit when running Flight Simulator. I have checked using CPU-Z, and the clock speed remains at 2.80 GHz when running Flight Simulator. According to my online investigations Turbo Boost is enabled through the BIOS. I have gone into my BIOS, and there is no reference to it at all. My BIOS is Dell Inc. A01 dated 11/08/2009. I am aware that there is a BIOS update available (A03 dated 03/11/2011), but the Dell drivers page states that to use it I need to "download the file and copy it to a DOS-bootable USB flash drive, then boot the system to the USB flash drive and run the program". I have no idea what a DOS-bootable USB flash drive is. Is this imperative, or is it safe for me to run the BIOS update file from my desktop, as various Youtube videos suggest? And of course the important question is whether this BIOS update will give me an option to enable Turbo Boost? Or is there another reason why this feature is not available? In case it is important, my OS is Windows 7 Home 64 bit.
Thanks for your help.
Adrian

A:How to enable Turbo Boost

Your CPU may not support Turbo Boost. Even if it does, if Dell didn't enable TB in BIOS, there's nothing you can do.
There's been only one BIOS update, from A01 to A03, for this system. And the only thing reported for A03 is: Fix intermittent show error message Alert at checkpoint D0 issue.
So if you don't get this error message, there's no point updating to A03.
You can enable Hyper-Treading in BIOS A01, if not already enabled. But HT  may only give you a small improvement, assuming the software you run is coded to use HT.

A:Y50-70 Turbo Boost turning off and 2.2 GHz after temp >= 65°

My Y510P does the exact same thing.  I think the throttling is triggered by power consumption and not heat. In the Y510P, the problem is that the heatsink and fan are not adequate to run both the CPU and GPU at their full rated speed at the same time.  You can use ThrottleStop 7.00 to get your CPU running at its Intel rated speed but depending on the application you are trying to run, the CPU core temperature will probably reach the thermal throttling temperature. Lenovo decided to disable turbo boost to avoid thermal throttling.

I understand what Intel Turbo Boost technology is and how it works.

What I would really like to know is "....does it do what it says on the can...." In practice does this technology really work seamlessly in the background as your computing demands vary depending on your current needs?

I am currently considering the purchase of a computer with an Intel® Core™ i5-4200U Processor that is rated 1.6 GHz and 2.6 GHz with TurboBoost, incorporating a 3 MB cache. Some of the work that I do is as mundane and low-usage as Word or Excel and a 1.6 GHz processor is more than adequate. But much of the work that I do is graphically intensive and I expect that at 1.6 GHz the processor will fall over but at 2.6 GHz it should be just fine.

In the real-world of hands-on use is this Intel Turbo Boost technology the answer to vastly different workloads such as that described above...

Is it possible to force the fans to run faster as to dissipate heat better? I know they gimp the CPU in this machine, disabling Turbo Boost, but you can easily turn it back on. However, the CPU quickly hits max temp and throttles down, yet the fans remain very quiet. I would prefer using turbo and letting the fans get louder, but if they are hard-set in the BIOS to a certain speed, than I guess there is no way to accomplish this. Didn't people complain about fan noise in the original BIOS, showing that the fans are obviously capable of running faster? If so, it would almost be nice to try that older BIOS and see if the fans would keep up with the heat that turbo creates. I'm guessing you can't back-rev the BIOS though....hmmm. Anyone come up with a solution to this turbo-conundrum?

i have a core i7 3610QM. i understand Turbo Boost is enabled through the motherboard bios. i understand i can monitor it when the Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.5 program is open and running. what i am not sure of, is whether or not the turbo boost works all the time, with or without the Technology Monitor program running, or does it only work when the program is open and running.

A:Intel Turbo boost, When is it working?

Turbo boost only activates when you need more processor power. Download CPU Z and look at bottom left corner, that is your current speed, If you put your CPU in a stress test like prime95 this number will increase because of the extra power needed

Anyway.. it's all gravy and whatnot, but I reformatted because I wanted to install my 7 Professional on it, which went along pretty well, but I'm facing a severe issue right now:

I can't use the double-tap feature in the upper left corner of my touchpad to turn it off, and I don't have my TurboBoost driver. Neither of them were on the HP website (where I got all the other drivers).. I'm desperate right now, because I've been searching and searching, with no results.

Hi I have an hp 15-ac143wm and it supports intel turbo boost technology 2.0, but I don't see it in device manager or anywhere else. I was told I would see a green check mark in power options followed by intel turbo boost but it's not there. I currently have my power settings to balanced. I know I can't enable it or disable it but I would like to know it's there when and in case I need it. It's one of the reasons I bought the notebook. Thanks

Solved!

New system. i5 3570K on Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H with Corsair H80 and 16GBs Kingston Hyper X PC1600. When the system is at idle the processor only runs at 1.7GHz. It takes so darn long for the desktop to load It's like I'm running ME with a Pentium3. The multiplier is set at 16 even though the BIOS doesn't have a setting to adjust the idle multiplier speed and has it locked at 34. The BIOS doesn't show it running at 1.7 but at 3.4 though I've verified the speed with 3 different apps. I can't figure out why it's doing that. I finally said screw it and just shut off all the turbo boost crap. It's now set with the FSB at 103.3 MHz and the multiplier at 42 so it's running constantly at 4.3 GHz with vCore at 1.24v or 1.056v depending on who you believe for the sensor readings CPU-Z or Aida64. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I wouldn't mind the turbo boost if it worked. Oh ya, word of warning for ivy bridge owners. Don't just monitor the CPU temperature, monitor the core temps as well. The CPU temp can go up only 5C while you have a corresponding 20C rise in core temps. At 4.3 I'm running at 29C at idle while the core temps idle at 41-43C. Haven't had time to sit down and seriously OC this thing yet to see what she'll do. We've been having a serious heat wave in L.A. the last couple of weeks.

A:Ivy Bridge Turbo Boost problems

It's not a turbo boost, it's Intel Speedstep which lowers the multiplier (and hence clock speed) when idle to save power. If you haven't switched that off you'll find the CPU running at 2.1Ghz or so when idle (half of 4.3Ghz). It's not Speedstep which is slowing your computer's boot time, it's either because you're running a mechanical hard drive or have lots of programs set to run at startup (check msconfig), or both.

in Gigabyte bios under CPU features theres feature that allows the CPU to overclock itself when its under load..

C.I.A.2 its called

you can set:
DISABLED
CRUISE
SPORTS
RACING
FULL THROTTLE

now I set Sports and Windows crashed shortly after loading... a reboot worked... then it crashed after rebooting again... the screen just went all blue... at one point I got a BSOD which mentioned hardware failure

I disabled it and all is fine...

is there something I have missed out in the options..?

thanks

Turbo boost technology are not working on my laptop .Tested with two processors (I7 620M and I7 840QM)
I have the latest bios A16  - turbo boost and enhaced speed technology are both enabled in bios
Hwinfo or Aida tells me that both processors are turboboost capable but the feature is disabled
How do I enable this feature
Any idea ?
Thx

EDIT
my laptop have a dedicated nvidia graphic card - that's why i can test the 840QM processor too..
my friend have the same laptop E6410 with same bios A16 in, but without dedicated graphic card.
So i put the i620 processor on that laptop and Turbo Boost works fine so i think that is something related with the graphic card which seems block turbo boost on my laptop..

A:Turbo Boost Latitude E6410

No idea. Sorry. Even without turbo boost I am wondering if speedstep is working and so which frequency range are you able to use with this processor on the E6410.
I am considering to upgrade from 620m to 840qm.
Thanks in advance.

Dell Latitude E6420 is my laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise. Turbo Boost is enabled in BIOS but is disabled in OS according to AIDA64. I managed to install Intel Turbo Boost Monitor but it says that Turbo Boost is not enabled. Although i still see standard speed but i also see Energy Saver appears when CPU runs at less than standard speed.

What is interesting is that Turbo Boost gets enabled in OS only when SpeedStep is enabled as well in BIOS. This slows down CPU to ~700Mhz and stays there no matter what. Enabling\Disabling C-State did not do anything and there is no multiplier.

Intel Chipset Utility is latest version and i did not find any Turbo Boost driver, nor any service in Administration.
