I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Your machine is a business class machine, it has built in dockking station port http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04915645.pdf Therefore no point to use other, non specialized dock. The HP Ultraslim Docking Station is perfect for this because the specs says: Number of Displays supported with Docking Supports 3 independent displays if used with optional HP Ultraslim Docking Station http://www8.hp.com/au/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5422417 Regards.

My entire family is an HP laptop/notebook family. We all love them and use them frequently. We recently converted a bedroom to an office and want to be able to use our laptops as desktops with external monitors, keyboard and mouse. Is there a universal docking station that we can use to plug and play our computers on dual external monitors and wireless keyboard and mouse? We would prefer an HP product but I know there are a lot of different types out there that plug into a USB port and have everything you would need to plug in all of your external devices. I just don't want to get one that won't be compatible with our devices.  I have an Envy 17 and the other 3 members of my family have 15's Thanks for any help given.

Jumanji discovered an interesting bit and I thought others should be aware.

This might be old news to some. I found one article to exemplify the issue, but there are sure to be more. While this article refers to 3TB drives, the same caution applies to 4TB and greater drives. Basically older docking stations do NOT have address translation for drives above 2 TB - they can only access 2 TB. Problems arrise when data exceeds that limit and data is over written at the base address corrupting the drive.

This is why the first 3TB drive shipped last summer as an external model--a switch from the usual pattern of internal units shipping first.

Although you shouldn't have any issues attaching a prepackaged 3TB external drive, you may have problems if you buy a 3TB internal drive and try to add it to a USB-connected enclosure yourself. Read the fine print: Many of the bare enclosures say they support 3TB, but not all of them do.

On a seperate note, I will be offline until I can arrange Internet connectivity. I don't know when the cutoff will be, but it is in the next few days - definitely by months end.

A:HDD > 2 TB and docking stations

I work out something for Internet connectivity. I thought it would be disconnected last Thursday, I was notified today that the service would end by close of business Tuesday.

I'll stop in when I'm near an open router (cafe, friends, library) but can't devote much time to issues. Once our monetary situation improves, I will contract with a provider.

I have been having all kinds of trouble accessing disks in docking stations through USB hubs and connected direct to my computer.

The two docking stations concerned are:

Coltech CE606CU3 USB 3.0 HDD Dual Bay Docking Station for 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives
Inateck Dual Two Bays USB 3.0 Hard Drives External Docking Station

The two hubs I have used are:

EasyAcc® USB 3.0 7 Port hub bus-powered and self-powered 2-in-1 hub
Inateck® 5-Port USB 3.0 Hub (USB 3.0 4-Port Hub + One 5V 2A Charging Port)

I am using plain SATA internal disks in the docking stations, the latest of which is a WD Green 4TB Desktop Internal SATA Hard Drive.

I have tried every conceivable combination:

one disk in one slot of docking station
two disks in both slots
both of the above connected via both hubs and connected direct to the computer (always using USB 3 ports)
switching on docking station after every possible method of connection
switching on and then connecting docking station after making every possible connection

And the result is always the same. The longest period I have been able to access any disk in any docking station is less than an hour, and then it disappears from Computer and from Disk Management - usually while doing a long backup. (Backup is the reason I bought the WD disk.) But the problem relates to any disk I use, in both docking stations and via both USB hubs or connected direct to computer.

Recently, when switching on the (connected) Coltech docking station I ... Read more

Hi Lars,Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.
I doubt as in order to use Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock there has to be Thunderbolt present in your older systems. It doesn't work with USB 3.0 ports.
I hope the above information helped you.

How can I add a wireless card to the Carbon X1?  The original answer was "can't be done" becuase the computer is a sealed case and has no capability for it.  I call BS!!  The computer obviously has a slot for it, a Sim card holder, and the option to order it from the factory with wireless.  How to add wireless to a non-wireless Carbon X1?

A:Docking Stations for X1 Carbon

You don't say which generation X1C you have, but AFAIK you can add a WWAN card.  Instructions are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular model.
The challenge will be antennas if they aren't already installed, and finding a card that passes the BIOS whitelist.
This isn't something I can address in detail, but if you'll list your MT-M - like 20FB002SUS as an example of a WWAN-upgradable unit - others will probably be able to help.  (Upgradable means that the antennas are already in place.)

We are looking for a docking station which is able to drive several digital monitors. At the moment we are using FHD displays, this woun't be a problem with any docking solutiion available. To be future proof we are looking for a solution which is able to run more than one monitor with 2K or 4K resolution. Lenovos "performance dock" is really expensive, but it's limited to a DP 1.2 uplink (two 4K only with 30Hz).There is an Thunderbolt 3 solution for connecting two 4K monitors using Display Port, but there's no USB/audio output on this device. Are there any advanced docking stations available? Is there a P50 owner with practical experience using TB3 docking solutions?

I have a question regarding dual-slot HDD docking stations, as I was thinking about purchasing one. I will be using it for both data transfer and cloning. I also own a copy of Acronis True Image 2014 Premium. My question is this, if I want to clone or transfer data from one drive to the other using Acronis True Image would it be faster with two single docking stations each with their own dedicated USB (to the computer) opposed to one dual-slot station which has to share it‘s USB cable for both simultaneously reading from and writing to the drives? Or is this not how it works; does the data simply transfer from one drive to the other without ever leaving the docking station?

A:Question Regarding Dual-Docking HDD Stations

?? I think you're right ?? .. But there are "docking stations" with stand alone cloning that should be faster .. Here's one
Unless you're doing this all day .. is the extra speed really that much of an advantage ??
I think I'd trust Acronis 2014 for the Cloning/Imaging especially if making a SSD .. and would get a couple of Single enclosures or stations for the speed/versatility ..

Hi everyone,
I just purchase one laptop for a user that has two offices in different locations.
The two locations are on the same domain but have a different ip scheme, example; location A 192.168.40.xx and location B 192.168.50.xx, our network admin has set the network to be static, my problem really is, how can i set up one docking station to use one ip scheme and the other docking station to us another ip scheme, both docking stations are identical. I've set up a test environment with both docks next to each other and both on the network, every time I dock it uses the first ip I had assigned to the first docking station, even worse, when I un-dock and use the nic on the laptop it will still use the same ip, can I create different local area connections for each nic????
dell e6420
docking station:
e-port plus port replicator

any input will be greatly appreciated

A:two different ip schemes, two docking stations, ONE laptop

Assign multiple static addresses on the docking station/NIC for both networks.

You will also need to add multiple default gateways.

A better way of doing this would be to enable DHCP on the networks. - This is upto your system admin though.

I have the XPS 13 9365 2-in-1 and I want a docking station without paying £££s.What non-Dell docking station are people using?many thanks

A:Which non-Dell docking stations for XPS 13 9365?

It is a little hard to judge price if you don't say which capabilities you want the dock to have.  If you needed just Ethernet, those aren't bad.
I have the TB 16, which seems to work well but is expensive.  I cannot attest to its capabilities with multiple monitors since I don't run my system that way.
I also have a StarTech.com dock (# DKT30CHPD) which has HDMI (4K) Ethernet and USB.
I will suggest you evaluate your needs prior to buying a dock.  Getting one which has the capabilities is better than buying several for different capabilities.  If for no other reason that drivers for the different docks may be different.
I should mention, the TB 16 has its own power supply where the StarTech one does not.  Of course, this adds to the cost but does give you a backup supply for your system.

The 5510 has the Thunderbolt 3/USB Type-C port. So you could connect it to the TB16, WD15. Or the D3100 through the 5510 USB 3.0 port. As for reviews, google is a fair source.

Hi, I am looking for a laptop which is small in size (13 - 14 inches) and has strong specs. I locked on to Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th Gen with 512 SSD and 16 GB RAM. One agent said that the docking stations will work with 3 external displays (2 display ports and 1 VGA). I talk to another agent after a few minutes and he said the laptop will only work with 2 external displays and not 3. Can anybody from the community confirm which of the two agents are correct. hey, everyone.

i have just begun delving into the realm of laptop graphics cards (trying to play GTA:SA, in addition to getting greedy now that the seed's been planted :slurp: ). i've picked up some bits around here that i want to pick your brains about... i have a toshiba satellite (p25-s507) with a GeForce FX Go5200, 32mb video card. i understand there's no way to upgrade this within the notebook, but I'm wondering about two things: docking stations and PC card slots. can i "upgrade" my video card through either of these? i know docking stations can support printers, extra monitors, etc... can they support a different graphics card, so i can switch over when my comp's docked? or this fancy-shmancy PC slot that everyone told me i could "upgrade later" with but haven't used yet... can a video card go in that slot?!

my apologies if this is complete newb-babble, hehe. thanks for any help!

A:laptops and graphics -- PC card slots, docking stations?

I don't think there's any way to get it upgraded. The only way is to buy a laptop with a fast gpu to start with, which isn't too easy.

A side note: There are usb 2.0 graphics cards to add a second monitor to some pc's, but they are likely much slower than your 5200. I think the company is called triton IIRC, they used to have them at newegg, not sure if they still do.

I have tried two different DisplayLink-driven USB 3.0 Docking Stations with my Yoga 700, and neither of them can achieve Gigabit Ethernet speeds. The docks I've tried are the Besthing USB 3.0 Docking Station, and the Sabrent USB 3.0 Docking Station, both of which use DisplayLink as driver software, and both feature Gigabit Ethernet ports. I have 1Gbps WAN access from Comcast, and if I use a plain Gigabit-to-USB adapter plugged into the Yoga, I get expected speeds in the neighborhood of 950Mbps. However, if I connect through one of the DisplayLink docking stations, my speed immediately drops to about 100Mbps. This leads me to believe that there is an issue with DisplayLink or their drivers, which is why I bought a second docking station to troubleshoot, but so far DisplayLink Support has been unable to provide a solution, and are shifting the blame to the dock manufacturers. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the DisplayLink driver software several times, including trying the latest Beta versions, and have tried plugging the Docking Stations in to both of the Yoga 700's USB 3 ports, with the same results. Has anyone had any luck getting Gigabit speeds when connecting a Yoga to a DisplayLink-enabled USB 3.0 Docking Station? Are there any other troubleshooting steps I can take? Thanks,R

How are you connecting the projector to the Laptop? Once you have the Projector hooked up, did you try pressing the Fn(blue function key) Plus the CRT/LCD key (usually is under F8 or F7, varies in diff. laptops) You can press those keys a few times, cause some time it does pick it up right away; wait like 4 sec between pressing of keys.

---- resolution: 1920 x 1440 @85hz

Display #1: Sony Bravia HDTV attached via HDMI cable
---- resolution: I forget, but less than the Phillips

#2 is actually my PC monitor that I used 90% of the time. My Vid Card must have detected the #1 & #2 backwards. ? All display modes work. In duplication mode my PC monitor takes the lower resolution of the HDTV. When I run in extended mode, my task bar and other functions show up on the HDTV, not on the main PC monitor so it's tricky to navigate. To put it another way, when using the "Display Switch" shortcut (WINKEY+P) the "Computer" and "Projector" designations have switched places. In a nutshell, I'd like to switch my #1 & #2 designations. OR, I want to make my #2 display show the windows task bar when I go into extended mode.

I have NEVER been able to check the "make this my display" box, no matter what I do or how I run it. It's visible but greyed out. I'm not very familiar with the catalyst software, but maybe there's a solution there?

I feel I'm missing something obvious. Please help!

A:W7 Extended Display - should be ez, but its not

It sounds like you might want to switch which head your "main" monitor is hooked up to.

ATI cards detect monitors in the following order:

DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort. HOWEVER, if the BOTTOM/board-side DVI is empty, HDMI will come first, then TOP DVI second.

Make sure your main monitor is on the bottom/board-side DVI port on your card.

Also, try setting your display settings to your liking in the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) and see if that helps.

Update: To find the settings you're looking for in the latest CCC, see this image:

One and or two should work to your liking.

UPDATE 2: Now that I think about it, do you have a single-slot 5770? (Has 1 DVI and 1 VGA, not two DVI)?

I would like to have an extended desktop over 3 monitors (different windows on different displays). I've seen it done, I know its possible. But I have tried and failed. Looking for help before I give up.

-Windows 7 Home Ediition 64 bit
-Dell XPS Studio 9100 desktop
-Dell OEM version of AMD HD 5670 ( VGA, DVI and HDMI ports. NO DP port)
-Non gaming application
-3 existing monitors
>>>LEFT: Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV ( HDMI and VGA inputs
>>>MIDDLE: Dell 1901 monitor ( DVI and VGA inputs)
>>>RIGHT: Dell 1907 monitor (DVI and VGA inputs)
•PCI card slot (PCI_1) 26
•PCI Express x1 card slot (PCIE1X3)
•PCI Express x16 card slot (PCIE16_1) (used by video card)
•PCI Express x1 card slot (PCIE1X2)
•PCI Express x1 card slot (PCIE1X1)
•PCI Express x8 card slot (PCIE8_2)
Latest AMD Drivers,Catalyst etc.
Resolution requirement - Modest. At this point would even settle for 1280 x 1024 on all monitors

Intial display configuration
Dell OEM AMD 5670 HDMI port > to > HDMI input on Sony Bravia
Dell OEM AMD 5670 DVI port > to > DVI input on Dell 1901
Dell OEM AMD 5670 VGA port > to > VGA input on Dell 1907

Windows 7 control panel sees, recognizes and identifies all 3 monitors. In fact I thought I was done!. But it only lets me extend any two at a time ; not all three at onc... Read more

A:Extended display over 3 monitors

The more I read , the more I am concluding the most effective way (and maybe the only way) to do this, is Option 3, ie

- buy a new PCI-e x16 graphics card with a DP port ( approx $100-$300)
- buy an ACTIVE dongle ( a I want to run 3 monitors in total) (approx $50)

Trying to set up 3 monitors with Gigabyte Radeon 6950 card

As to the cheaper Option 2, I dont know if thats even possible in practice for the 3 monitor sceanrio.

Hi Everyone!

So I am having some issues extending my display. I just got a refurbished 2016 Dell XPS 13 laptop (Win 10 64-bit, i7, 8GB RAM). A great laptop so far, but the problem is that it won't extend or project onto my TV. The computer recognizes the additional screen (a Toshiba TV) but will not display on it. When I click extend display, the laptop screen goes dark. Occasionally I can revert the display back to the laptop with some blind clicking, but usually I end up restarting the computer.

On the TV side, the TV says "No Signal" even after I have plugged in the HDMI cord and the computer makes the hardware recognition sound and the TV appears as an additional screen in the display control panel on the laptop. I have tried using the on board graphics software (Intel HD Graphics), the Win 10 Control Panel, and hotkeys. All with the same result.

I would love it someone smarter than me could tell me what to do!

One thing. The XPS 13 doesn't have an HDMI port -- it has a Type C USB port. I bought a Dell Adapter that goes from Type C USB to VGA/HDMI/USB/Ethernet -- not sure if that is the issue or not, but like I said, the laptop recognizes the TV, it just seems like the opposite is not true!

Anyway, thanks for the help. It'll be a lot easier to watch the new season of GoT if I can actually see it!

Hello everyone,

I have been having a problem with my two displays for quite some time now. I was able to fix it at first by resorting to a restore point but, now I've done it again.

I am using a LCD tv as my main display with 1360*768 resolution. My other display is a regular LCD 21" monitor. I am trying to get its resolution to 1360*768 as well so, the monitors will match. My graphics software is ATI Catalyst 10.1
I have the displays set as "extend" but my 21" display does not show the extended desktop. It just shows a blank screen. It is receiving a signal but, it isn't doing anything. It will display the boot screen but nothing else.

At first the problem was that the 21" was not displaying 1360*768 correcting. It was displaying the extended desktop with a 3" black border all around. So it was basically showing a little tiny desktop. Now it doesn't display anything.

I've tried reinstalling Catalyst, resetting to default, and changing resolutions. Nothing is working and I do not want to revert to a previous OS state and lose some program settings.

A:Extended Display Not Working

Have you changed the refresh rate back after installing the ati drivers in desktops properties in the CCC? If its set too high you will have no options much with the screen resolutions. Try disabling the extended desktop and see if you can fix the no1 display and then re-enable the other one etc.
The black line maybe because you have aspect ratio enabled instead of scale the image to full panel size - desktop & displays - right click monitor, and click configure.
You can usually set aspect ratio / full screen manually using buttons on the monitor also.
Sorry if this is useless and you have already tried these things
