Script to Delete Certain User Accounts?

Q: Script to Delete Certain User Accounts?

We currently have a few public computers that anyone of the employees can use while waiting to have thier computer fixed, we have been finding that the Users folder in Vista is getting awefully crowded after a few weeks of this experiment.

We where looking for a way to have a timed script to run on each of these computer at a certain time of day to delete all User accounts on the computer except Public, and our Admin account and shutdown the computers so they would be ready for the next mornings use.

Does anyone have any ideas of how this can be done?

Preferred Solution: Script to Delete Certain User Accounts?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Basically as soon as the window for the user accounts managment thing comes up an error box saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and no information is given on any of the lines and does not disappear when you click either yes or no to continue running scripts on this page.

Any help would be mucho appreciated

You can try dial-a-fix. Its magical for this kind of problems. Dial-a-fix will put many of your registry entries to Windows default state. You need admin rights for it.

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Read carefully first, then download and run it ONLY if you understand clearly what would it do and if you can take all the previous actions suggested.

I am running on windows XP. and originally had 5 user accounts. i deleted two of them a year ago and now the time has come to delete 2 more and be left with one.

Problem: I tried Deleting Both of the user accounts and each time i click delete account the program freezes and fails to respond (resulting in me pressing ctrl+alt+delete and none of the accounts getting removed) i have tried the option of keeping the files on the user accounts and not keeping them as hope of avoiding the problem (i dont need any files on the accounts) I have also been trying to delete them via. teh control pannel-user accounts-edit account-delete accoutn methood for the past few months.

Is there any other way to delete these users? or is there some way to avoid the program failing to respond?

Hi,

I am selling my computer and so want to delete all existing user accounts.

Under Computer Management> Local Users and Groups> Users, if I delete all user accounts so that only Built-In Admin and Built-In Guest are left, what will happen when the computer is restarted if the both built-in Admin and Guests accounts are disabled? Will the new user just be asked to create a new user account (this is what I would like to happen).
Thanks.

This is Ok with our DEPT as long as they waive all software support. We use a standard image for our equipment. If the company wants to reformat the drive then that's OK.They will not be on our network. If , however they need Admin rights I have to remove 50 built in Admin accounts on each one. I know how to remove them individually, but am looking for a way to remove them in bulk. Is this possible?

Dear Friends,

I am trying to help a neighbour of mine who has Windows XP Home Edition. When a local company installed the computer they set up User Accounts for both the husband and wife, no one else lives in the house. The wife is the only person to use the computer the husband has never bothered to learn, the wife finds it quite frustrating in having to log on every time and would like to get rid of the User Accounts, so that when the P.C. is booted up it goes straight to the normal desktop.

I have looked at my copy of Windows XP for Dummies and it would appear that Start / Control Panel / User Accounts may be the way forward. However from there I am not sure what to do, if I select Change an Account and then delete both Users will that achieve the objective ? I should be pleased if some kind person could steer me through the necessary procedure.

Thank you,

When I send out a new computer to a customer, I install a "selection of useful programs" do all the windows updates and such.
So after doing all this on a new laptop computer I ran sysprep.  Decided to see what it was like, so started the computer up.  I got the whole "Preparing computer for first use thing" was asked for a username.  I entered it, the same one as before
and got, "User already exists" WTF?  So I try a different username, and then when windows loads it comes to the log in screen with 2 users!  The user I used to add all the programs, plus the user I created after sysprep.  How do I get sysprep
to delete the user I originally created when I first started the computer fresh out of the box?
To explain a different way.  What I do is take the computer out of the box, turn it on, let it do all of its install this, install that, create a user, lets call the user Tom (As required to go any further) then I uninstall some programs, add some, and
run sysprep.  However sysprep does not remove the Tom account.
I have read somewhere on here that sysprep does not remove user accounts, that it needs to be done manually.  So, dow do I delete the account I am currently using.  I need to use an account to delete an account.    Lil help please.

A:How do I get sysprep to delete all user accounts?

The answer is: Use Audit Mode
When you start your customizations don't go through the Windows Welcome wizard to create a user. Instead enter Audit Mode by typing Ctrl-Shift-F3 at the start of the wizard. The system will now reboot into Audit Mode and you are logged on as the built-in
Administrator. You can now make the changes to the system and run sysprep when you are finished. Using this procedure you will not create a new user each time you modify a system. You can also delete the users you created earlier from Audit Mode.Ray - Author of Windows 7 for XP Professionals

How to correct user accounts in windows 8 Pro on new HP Pavilion g7 2246nr, I set notebook up using Microsoft account then called Microsoft when problems started, and we decided to switched to a local account. They created a new user account, then copied all my files to it. But I ended up with i administrator account that could not be deleted. that worked but my files are broken up between 3 other user accounts. I spoke with Microsoft to try and consolidate the accounts and they used a command line in cmd, run as an administrator, but it did not finish, or I may have cut it off by accident. I am still working with the system but it has problems. I have reloaded the software 3 times so for. Does any know how to correct the problem without reloading all the software again? Also after setting up sharepoint in Office Pro Plus, it created another administrator account in UAC. I did not think this was going to happen? Right now in the UAC I have two administrator accounts with the sane name, In c:users there 5 with the temp file they created. Does any one know what that command line they attempted to use was to correct and consolidate the user accounts.
If any one knows how to correct the problem without reloading all the software again. It would be greatly appreciated?

I recently had a similar issue where another account was created that i dont want.. I removed the user through the normal channels but the folder was still there and I was denied access to delete it.

I have a remedy that will definitely delete it but if you say they have the same name, you may remove the wrong one.. How many user accounts total do you have and have access to with name and password?

I can walk you through to rename it and reboot and see if all is ok and if there is no problem I can walk you through the delete if you cant at that point already...

If its not urgent lets give it a day or two and see if anyone else has the proper solution instead of the forced solution that I have.

I just got a second hand computer from an auction, and have installed windows XP home edition and the service pack 2. my father accidentally included 4 user login profiles (the ones that appear when you first turn the computer on) instead of just the 1 for me, so I tried to delete the others. However, when i go to control panel and user accounts, i get a message saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and "do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" with a "Yes" and a "No" box underneath. no matter how many times i click on either the yes or no boxes, the message won't go away, and so i cant access my user accounts, and the only way to get rid of the box is to log out or shut down.

Can you please help me get rid of this???

Hiii everybody,
this is my first ever post in my first forum . That's a disclaimer to ask you guys to forgive me for having very little gray matter :-( .
I have Windows XP HOME SP2 on Intel Celeron 667 MHz and 192MB RAM. I know it doesn't sound like much so I'm always trying to read forums and tweak my settings. But this time, it ended up worse.
I used a program called autoruns.exe to adjust my startup programs so it'll start faster. I'm not sure what I turned off but now
1. It takes longer to start up,
2. I don't see any accounts (not even admin) in Control Panel - User accounts
3. I can access a directory and open files but I can't cut or copy and paste them into another folder.
4. In services.msc, most of the programs under Local with automatic setting don't start and cannot be started. I can't even see the programs under extended.
5. I have a home network but I can't access any of my other computers.
those are a few of laundry list of challenges with my computer (with me ?)
I'm even ready to format and reinstall XP but I need to copy some files before I do that.
I'm sorry for this long post but can you guys help me?

Hi

I'm surprised that nobody else has this problem, but I've searched and can't find an answer...apologies if I've not looked hard enough but I decided to post a question because this is 'urgent' to me.

I had 2 children's accounts in Win 8, and had local Parental Controls. Upgraded OS to Win 10, and now I can't manage Parental Controls in Win 10 locally, so I 'think' I need to set up 'online Profiles' for them.

However, all their game progress, profile settings, etc are on their local profiles - how can I get all this data to be on their online Profiles? I didn't want to copy and paste folders (such as AppData) without knowing that this was a 'safe' way to do this.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Rgds,

I was recently looking on techguy for a similar resolution to the below question in the forum.

Do I have install the program on every User account (hence taking up room on my PC because I am installing the same program twice)?

And when I use virus programs do they sift for infections through all the users etc?

Hi all

I can't find any mention of my problem on this or any other forum. Or at least I don't think I can... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my set-up:
Linksys DSL modem, connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router. The modem is configured to be the DHCP server, the Airport is set to bridge mode. I have a new Compaq Presario desktop running Vista Home Basic with a Belkin wireless-G USB dongle. All of this discussion is about wireless, btw - I don't have a long enough CAT-5 cable to connect the Airport and PC.

I have 5 users set up on the PC - 1 true, unlocked administrator account and 4 standard users. When I boot up and connect as any of the 4 standard users they automatically detect and connect to the Airport, and receive IP addresses.

But when I change user to be the administrator the connection drops after a few seconds. The Airport network is visible to Vista, because it is in the list of available networks. But if I try to connect to it it fails, and the Vista diagnostic tool tells me it has been unable to connect 'for unknown reason'. One of the standard users used to have admin rights, and that account had exactly the same problem. If I log in from a boot-up as the administrator I also cannot connect to the network.

If the administrator account has been used and logged out the other users cannot connect to the Airport. I have to re-boot before they can connect again.

Hello

I have been chasing up an answer to this problem for a couple of weeks now and have found a number of people with same symptoms but no answer which works.

When I go to the User Accouns page the dialog box for the "Choose the Account you would like to change" is blank.

I am an administrator and there are 2 accounts on my notebook - windows 7 professional.

I can view the accounts through the run command, but would like to know why the dialog is empty and what the fix is for this.

I have done a scan for errors - none found.

Done a complete reinstall - Accounts still not visible.

Looking on a variety of forums, this appears to have been happening to XP and Vista prior to Windows 7.

However none of the fixes for XP or Vista work (Some don't even apply).

Does anyone have a solution for this bug?

Thanks

Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help. Recently, a few strange things have happened with the PC, which first started when I found I couldn't use the Backup & Recovery software in Windows 7. Whenever I clicked on one of the buttons with a shield, nothing would happen at all. I've looked around and just can't find the solution to this. However, today when trying to fix this, I've come across a new user account in the permissions section. The name is jvactaett - I certainly haven't made this! Does anyone have any ideas how this account has got there, and how I can remove it? It doesn't show in user accounts through Control Panel.

I've put a screenshot as well. To get there, I right clicked a hard drive and went to properties, Security, Add, advanced and then clicked Find Now.

I don't know if the two things above are linked or not...
Thanks!

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.

Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.

I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured. I would appreciate any thoughts that anyone has this problem.

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

DETAIL -
1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-2363711691-2099609217-1737805787-1001_Classes:
Process 944 (\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\svchost.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-2363711691-2099609217-1737805787-1001_CLASSES

I was able to logged in through Safe Mode but still an error flagged in status bar that the profile was not properly loaded.

Although I was able to copy all data from that user account to a new account, can I still troubleshoot the problem and be able to log in using the old user account? I have all my shortcuts and archives there and "every customized thing".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I deleted it as there was no way of accessing the account to see what was in it but was wondering if anyone might know how it could have got there. I have norton internet security, norton antivirus and sygate pro firewall. No one else has had access to the computer either(at least not from my home). Any help appreciated.

A:User Accounts & Fast User Switching

I believe that if the Terminal Service isn't started then fast user switching isn't available. To start the Terminal Service, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools and click on Services. Right click on Terminal Service and select Properties. Make sure the startup type is set to Automatic. Also, see this Microsoft article on fast user switiching.

Hello all,

I have a question. I've been using a batch file to delete users from our computer lab here in campus. That batch file worked beautifully for Win 7, but not sure for win 8.1. We've been having problems with the accounts either not loading correctly, being corrupted, black screens, not getting the GPO. So I am not sure if the delete script is causing any issues.

Below is the batch file:

@echo on
SET rootKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

:check_users
FOR /F "DELIMS=" %%i in ('DIR "C:\USERS" /B /AD') DO CALL :remove_old_profiles "%%i"

I am trying to run the script from here:

I am getting the same error the user was getting in the OP, but he does not give the answer how it was fixed. I'd like to find out if anyone knows how to get rid of that error.

Hello all -- I was reading an article about managing passwords in XP and followed its' instructions.
I went to Start/Run and entered "control userpasswords" at that time the 3 accounts that I have put
on the computer showed, along with another that I did not knowingly authourize or even know about.
The suspicious account is a limited account -- password protected and has the title "ASP.NET Machine A..."
(thats exactly what it says). asp.net seems to be a microsoft sponsored site -- I guess.
My concern is that I have recently had and removed spyware from this pc and I did not knowingly authorize this account nor have I heard of ASP.NET prior to this. I really want to delete this account but I am more courious as to how it got there. I am your everyday home pc user with limited knowledge of much more that the color of my computer. Please advise. Thank you.
Oh yeah -- the ASP account only shows when I go to the start/run and access user accounts that way -- to access user accounts through control panel does not show the asp.net account.
thank you

ASP.net is put there by Microsoft when you installed the .NET thru Windows Update. Not to worry.

Hi

I'm getting this error message.
I did a google search and found this: You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon
But did not help me. I also did a search here and found a few topics with this error message though they didn't solve my problem either, because mine problem seems to be different.

I can login to existing accounts. But I can't login to new ones.
So when I go to the registry editor there's no folder for the new accounts. They just don't exist at all. Only the existing ones.
I create a new user account at the Users menu in Control panel and they show up at login screen. When I click them, it starts the waiting icon saying "Logging in" then after a few seconds, this error message pops up. I can click OK and then it says "logging off" and goes back to the login screen.
I do have access to an administrator account and a standard account, I can log in to both

I don't have any system restore points before this started happening. i'm using ESET Smart Security as my antivirus but I don't think it's causing the problem, I uninstalled it and it didn't work then either so I reinstalled it back.
Please help me what could be wrong?

A:Can't create new user accounts "The user profile service failed..."

Can you yell us when the problem started and were you on the system when it is doing this if so what were you doing when it started.

I have seen multiple question and answers in forum regarding this GPO to Delete User Profiles Older than a Specified
Number of Days on System Restart not working or some hotfixes, in my environment it is working on all required systems in one OU. But in some PCs it is not deleting the parent folder and some folder under appdata.
like c:\Users\DomainUser\Appdata\local\abc\efg\
so the profile data like my documents, pictures, desktop etc are deleted but folder structure "\DomainUser\Appdata\local\abc\efg\" in efg folder is empty, which creating confusion during Audit and physical check.

A lot of the time you cant delete accounts ,each site has their own TOS,
you could block their emails though.

I deleted the previous user account on a laptop given to me by my friend (Joanne) and changed it to a new name (Serena). This seemed to work and when when I login it is with the new username. However there seems to be contradicting info about user accounts on my pc. The first screenshot shows my current username but the second screenshot is not showing my current usernames and all files appear to have the old username. I keep trying to delete the files associated with the old account but cannot do so. Can anyone help?

I know it sounds simple, but it's confusing the heck out of me, and I've checked a few simple "how-to's" that didn't work. Here's the problem: I have several gmail accounts I've created over the years......one I use daily, another once in awhile, another I wish to make my primary account, and some others. Here's what I need to do: 1) eliminate ALL but the 2 accounts I'm going to be using, and 2) easily switch between the two. I realize that #2 is a totally separate issue; let's just try to get the first one done for now.

What happens is, first I sign out of the regular account, but cannot get into any others. The one I previously created that I want to use as my primary, when I try to sign in, it says "no account exists." But when I try to create a new account using that name, it says "that one's already taken." If I try to retrieve a password, and go through that whole laborious process, it says "nothing here." The process just keeps going back and forth.....

So......how can I go in and get rid of all but the two accounts?

A:How do I delete gmail accounts I don't want/need?

i think this is a little more than posted
this is the key question
The one I previously created that I want to use as my primary, when I try to sign in, it says "no account exists."Click to expand...

can you log into that account

When you delete gmail account, it still exist and cannot be re-created , although it will not be available to anyone else
this sounds like the situation

Hello,
I have tried my absolute best to remove any trace of one of my WLM accounts, but I've had no luck.
It's an account that I no longer wish to use and have closed the account with Windows Live--I just wish it was as simple as that to remove my account on the computer.

Now, the first obvious thing was to: click 'Forget Me' in WLM, then I did a registry search for my address and deleted all results, then I did a search of my computer (including hidden files and folders) and deleted all those results but still, when I've signed back into the account it doesn't treat me as though I've never logged in this computer with the account.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to TSF

Try this

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the ?Temporary Files? and uncheck the box for ?Scan drives for file matching? if it?s checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Over the years I used Twitter only for job-related functions, specifically for extended school field trips. To avoid confusion for the parents, I created a new account(?) every year.....#specialtrip2013, #specialtrip2014, etc. Now, I'd like to delete every one of those old accounts(?) and establish a new Twitter account. I use scare quotes for "account," because I don't understand whether these are "accounts" or just different variations of my overall account.....in searching for "how to delete my Twitter account," I'm concerned that I may not be deleting what I should, and it could lead to problems later on. Any help appreciated!
