Yoga 260 - Touchpad/Trackpoint Issue after bios update

Q: Yoga 260 - Touchpad/Trackpoint Issue after bios update

Hi All,in the last days i performed a bios upgrade for an issue that now is solved: sometime when i powered on my Yoga 260 only with battery - fully charged - it didn't switch on.....it needed to feel the AC plugged in just for a minute (and than plugged it off), to let me switch on the laptop with battery. After the Bios Upgrade (N1GET84W 1.63 - 21/12/2017), everythings seems to work properly except for Touchpad/Trackpad: Uefi Bios is correctly configured with the two field of Touchpad and Trackpoint "Enabled"I upgraded all driver of my laptop from Windows Update and from Lenovo Support web page (also checked from Lenovo Vantage app)Under "Mouse Settings" the Touchpad/Trackpoint settings are enabledMouse Settings My O.S.: Windows 10 Pro - Versione: 10.0.16299 - Build: 16299 I searched on forum and on internet but i found similar issues with no solutions that worked for me. Any idea about it? Best regards to all and Happy New Year!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

After switching to tablet mode in Windows 10, the touchpad and trackpoint are both disabled. I tried disabling and re-enabling it in the BIOS, no effect. Tried updating to the latest ELAN driver, no luck... in fact, there's no option for enabling / disabling the touchpad in the dialog box, and the ELAN dialog box is just a big blank. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Lenovo drivers; no luck. I saw some suggestions that I should disable some sort of Intel sensors in the BIOS, but I couldn't find those settings.  Suggestions?

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Trackpoint on Yoga 12 is working at Windows 10 login screen, but immediately upon logging in to Win 10, the mouse pointer disappears (when using only built-in trackpoint/touchpad). The 'additional mouse settings' reveal the Thinkpad tab and the settings for trackpoint/trackpad, but they are greyed out and not active. Adding a USB mouse brings back the mouse pointer and then the pointer responds to the external device normally. Remove the USB device, and the mouse pointer is unresponsive to trackpoint input. I downloaded and installed most recent synaptics trackpoint driver from Lenovo. Now running driver v. 19.3.4.90. How can I re-enable the trackpoint?Windows is up to date.

I solved this issue by re-installing the latest Lenovo driver, but AFTER I uninstalled the existing driver. I had previously installed the same latest driver without uninstalling the existing driver, and that did not resolve the problem. Apparently installing the new driver only works if the prior driver is first uninstalled.

So I have the updated Window 10 Home and Lenovo Settings Ver. 3.169.0.0. It doesn't allow me to adjust Trackpoint or Touchpad speed when I go to the tab "Input". Both speeds are kept lowest and I cannot scroll the bars at all. What I can do is go to Synaptics Control Panel to adjust the speeds. However every time I open the laptop again after Sleep or Reboot, the speeds go back to lowest again. Please help me solve this issue. Thanks!

Hi! I have an E460 laptop, on which I'm dual booting Windows 10 Pro and Manjaro Linux (basically Arch Linux) with Linux kernel 4.5.2. Having the same problem that people discuss in the E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds thread, I have been bumping my bios to 1.13, 1.16, and yesterday, to bios 1.17, to see if the problem had been resolved. With the 1.17 bios update, my touchpad and trackpoint stopped working in Linux (In Windows they work fine). They do not even show up in /dev/input, and there is no mention of either of them in dmesg, journalctl, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, or anywhere. The touchpad and stick worked fine in bios 1.13 and 1.16, so I'm thinking there is some regression in 1.17. Is anyone else experiencing this? Can Lenovo confirm whether there is a problem?

Hello everyone, I am having an issue and hoping to see if someone can help. I just updated the BIOS (1.27), intel mangement engine, and optimus graphics card using the lenovo vantage app, I think everything went smoothly, but now the mouse cursor intermittently disappears after waking from a sleep state. Trackpoint, trackpad, button presses all don't work. Device manager says that it is working well. After installing and uninstalling the optimus graphics card, I think I have come to the conclusion that it is either the Alps driver or the recent BIOS update. I have installed multiple different Alps driver and all of them eventually result in the disappearance. Sometimes I would go 3-4 wakeups and it would be fine. Sometimes just 1 and the cursor would disappear. A poor workaround is to uninstall the Alps driver altogether, and use the generic touchpad driver. Obviously 2 finger scroll and multitouch commands do not work with this method, but there is no concern regarding lack of a mouse cursor after waking from sleep. I tried to rollback the BIOS update, but the recent update prevents rolling back to an older version. I am at a loss as to what to do. I could consider a fresh install of windows, but I feel that it wouldn't solve the problem. Anybody else have this issue? Thanks.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

I have a very annoying problem with my T460p: When suspending the laptop and turning it on again, the trackpad and touchpad devices stop working entirely (no response at all). The problem cannot be fixed by rebooting the machine and can only be resolved by completely powering down the laptop, removing the battery and restarting it afterwards. Symptoms: * During  boot, a message "PS/2 mouse not detected" shows up.* The Windows device manager shows the synaptics touchpad as not functioning.* The problem occurs both under Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) I am running the latest BIOS version and have updated all drivers on the machine. I have also checked all BIOS settings. Lenovo already replaced the laptop twice, but the problem persists, hence I conclude that it's either a problem in all of the synaptics components or related to something else. I have found many similar bug reports in this forum and elsewhere, not only for the T460p but also other models like the T440 series, hence this is not an isolated case. Please bring this problem to the attention of the support staff, as this is something that is completely unacceptable for a laptop in this price range (especially since everything else is working perfectly). The laptop has the following configuration btw: * i7 6600HQ processor* 20 GB Ram (4 GB on-board + 16 GB extra RAM)* 2 TB HDD + 512 GB SSD via M.2 slot* Otherwise standard configuration Thanks for your help!

The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

My new Yoga 11e often boots with the touch pad not working. A restart by using the touch screen and it works again... I've got the newest drivers installed. And Windows 8.1 x64 is fully updated. On the occasions when it doesn't work, there are several Event ID 219 errors (task category 212) in the System Event Log. These refer to to following - : 'The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0002''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0003''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0004''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0005''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0006''The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\ITE8386&Col02\4&3a253277&0&001' This is the order they appear in - with the 0002 happening first. Note the different caps on the last one - thats as per Event Log. I've set the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' service to Automatic. This is listed as 'Automatic (Trigger Start)'. But the problem still occurs -  mainly after the laptop have been turned off for more than 10 minutes.  Anyone else noticed this problem?

UPDATE After innocently installing the suggested Power Management Driver update via the Lenovo System Update application Windows 8 completely killed itself and I had to use the recovery USB stick I made to Refresh windows and get it working again! That's really disappointing Lenovo - and quite ridiculous that a suggested update should break the laptop so easily. After this the SYSTEM errors vanished - so I've linked those errors to the Logitech Anywhere MX mouse I was using. This mouse has not been reconnected.... The trackpad still fails to function though - with the same error in Event Log. Going to run all the main updates (apart from the Power Management one!) in System Updates and see what happens.

Hey everyone, Hope you're all doing well! I have been encountering this weirdly annoying issue with the Yoga 910 touchpad. Every once in a while, the touchpad seems to stop responding to taps, only if I click it down physically, will the left click register. Otherwise, tapping just presses it down and gets it stuck. Restarting or logging out fixes the issue. I just wanna know if there is any way to at least reset the mouse driver w/o turning off the laptop.. Very annoying issue and completely weird to be honest.. Hope someone can offer some help!! Thanks in advance!!

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Hi, changuri

I would recommend trying to install the Synaptics base driver and see if that helps your issues. Synaptics is the company that produces the UltraNav driver for Lenovo, so there should not be any loss of functionality, but it tends to fix issues like this in my experience. This driver can be found here. Try downloading and installing that and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

A:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

Hi all,First post!  My Dad's Lenovo laptop goes to a black screen when starting up, so is unusable.I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but have started to research things for him and have found that 'black screen' shows up quite a lot for Windows 10 and Lenovo PCs! We were so impressed with my Dad's PC I've ended up with the same model myself:Lenovo YOGA 500 Convertible Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" Touch Screen. Also labelled as: Yoga 500-15IBD Laptop (ideapad)  I see some people mentioning hardware failures and others device driver problems with the graphic card etc. but haven't read a definite cause/fix for this so far. I've just found this recent critical BIOS update for this PC which mentions the black screen problem:Software name: BDCN63WW Version 63[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-500-15ibd/downloads/D...I haven't seen this mentioned in the forums? Has anyone else used this?If the PC always boots to a black screen I'll obviously have trouble installing this! I'm hoping that it will boot in Safe Mode or I'm going to have some trouble installing it?! I don't know whether to install the BIOS update on my own machine which is running fine - I think I'll wait until I see my Dad's laptop first which will be in a few weeks. Has anyone had any experience of this BIOS update or other comments on this?Thanks. &nb... I'm still wondering about this... I've just updated the Lenovo Companion after seeing it mentioned in another thread. It looks like this s/w is supposed to scan the PC and recommend Lenovo updates - critical and nice to have ones. Initially the Companion was showing a critical update for Lenovo SHAREit and a recommended one for my BIOS. It says I'm currently on BDCN28WW and offered something like v61 and not the 63 I mentioned in my first post? After letting it update SHAREit and re-scanning the BIOS update is no longer being offered and still shows me on v28 ??? I'm not sure I trust this 'Companion' app!My laptop seems to be running fine so I don't want to break it updating the BIOS if it's not required. For all I know my Dad's broken one may be broken because it upgraded?! Does anyone else use/trust the Companion app?And has anyone else seen it change it's mind on recommended BIOS updates? Thanks.

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Hi, mkmchughIf there is such an option available, it would be with the mouse settings. Do you see anything related to disabling them with a USB mouse connected when you go to Mouse under Control panel and go to I believe is the Thinkpad tab?

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

Hello HP? As you can see, there are multiple Elitebook 8750W users with this same problem on Windows 10!
