Need intranet email server

Q: Need intranet email server

Hi,
I'm doing voluenteer work in a school maintaining their network. They currently have 6 internet email accounts assigned to office staff members. I'd like to setup an intranet email server for them and give each teacher an account allowing the office staff to take advantage of email communication to the teachers and other staff. I would requre a total of about 30 accounts. Maybe if the software supports it, I would try to make them all internet accounts.

Obviously, cost is an issue here. I'm sure I can squeeze something out of them for software, but it aint gonna be in the hundreds of $$. So are there any reccommondations on email servers that might fit this bill?

Its a peer to peer network of approx 50 computers. Mostly XP Pro, some 98.

Thanks,
Steve

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Win2k Server, IIS 5, Front Page Extensions 2002 on the Intranet server. I cannot view the page from within the network. I did not buy the domain so I am going around to every PC and putting the IP address in the HOSTS file. I can see everything through FTP but I cannot seem to view the site like a normal website. A:Intranet Server

A little more information is required. Do you intend to make this server visible on the Internet, or just on your local network? If it's just on your local network, you can use the machine name, or almost anything you would like put into the HOSTS file for that IP address. For instance, I have VNC running on my STANDBY machine, i just use http://STANDBY:5801 to access it with IE. Obviously, you don't have to specify the port for a web server running on port 80, the default.

For some reason I think it might have to do something with my static Routes...???

Did you check if your router/firewall allows ping [icmp]? Usually it is disabled by default. Or is this server raw on the internet?
I am assuming when you say via the internet you are actually outside the office and connected via vpn.

Hi,
I recently Stumbled across this article when I was browsing the internet:
Build your own NAS using FreeNAS | geekyprojects.com
I was thinking about taking this to the next level. I realized that I have a couple of old computers I could do this too, but first I wanted to ask a few questions.

Here is the kinda thing I was thinking of:

Server using old computer with RAID array connects to router which all computers in house connect too.

Current computers:
Computer 1 - Hardwired to router
Laptop - Uses Wifi

Is it possible to setup an old computer to have a RAID array (which from my understanding kinda connects HDD's together using an addon to the motherboard, or something along those lines) that is hardwired into the router allowing anyone who connects to our home network to access files on the Server? Also, is it possible to create a home website, so a website is stored on the server and is then added as the homepage on whatever computer, so it shows links to different websites etc (I was thinking XAMPP). Then if we want to backup our computer when can back them up to our home server.

Can anyone think of something along those lines? Does anyone have something like that setup in their house?

Thanks,
Sam

I think want you want to do is possible, if maybe a little complicated. Tell me, this "old computer" that you want to use as a local server ... what OS is it running?

Hello there,

I am having a problem with connecting a secondary server on my intranet.

I have a routered system and have set a server on a secondary system.

I have set the nic of the secondary system to 192.168.1.5

The router is at 192.168.1.1

My own personal computer and server are at 192.168.1.3

I can send/receive on my server calls to ftp port 21/20

but when i route calls to my secondary system from port 22 to my secondary ip port 21 I get a connection from outside but no List.

If i try from inside the intranet, there is no problem.

My friend has tried the same thing with a different router.

I have a linksys BEFSR41 V2 and he has a Netgear FR314

Any ideas on this problem?

thanks in advance

Basically all I wish to do is have another FTP server on my intranet.

Two servers, one using normal ftp calls ie. 21/20 non pasv

and a call to port 22 to route to the port 21 of a secondary server.

The problem is finding a way for the data to be outputted from the router.
It just will not do this.

Any Ideas anyone?

Or any ideas where I can go to find some help.

Hey All,

I am working on a server and recently two of their mail accounts have began not sending out email. When I first looked into the outbound box, the mail I sent out is still pending. It usually takes anywhere from 1 minute to several hours to for it (Argosoft Outbox) to be delivered. Also, when I send out a email to that particular a particular address, it will just sit there.

I have also done scans with AVG 8.0 and found that it had I-Worm/Bagz.D infection. I quickly quarantined that infection as to not allow to infect other files on the pc / server. I have also done a Hijack This Scan, please can someone look at this and tell some about what I am making out.

Hello.
I've just found a pst file with all my old email. I'd like to put them back on the server (hotmail) but before doing that I've seen that some of them were not recived (or sent) to my actual address (@hotmail.com) but to an old one (@infinito.it). So I was thinking to export them from outlook 2013 to CSV, modify that address into the new one and then import them back on outlook 2013. The problem is that when I export them to CSV, in that file they don't have the date (received or sent) and so when I get them back on outlook 2013 they miss that info.
Can anyone help me doing this? I've been told that VBA macro should be useful for this, but having a look in it I have no idea of what I sould do.
Ah, instead of outlook 2013 I can also use thunderbird (45.3.0) if it's easier with it, but then I'd have to convert that pst file.
Thanks!

Hi, firstly please bear with me as i'm new to this. I'm trying to setup the email on our virtual server through cpanal and using Thunderbird 3 (although i did try it with Outlook 2007 and the same results.)

Using the given Incoming and Outgoing mail server info given (mail.domain.co.uk) and the mail server username, I get a failed to find error (using both POP3 and IMAP). If I change that too the SSL settings for Incoming / Outgoing (serverusername.miniserver.com), it works and autofinds Connection Security as STARTTLS and finds the ports too. With this I can send emails fine, but I am not getting incoming emails, and I don't know enough about it too see what I'm doing incorrect, any help would be great, thanks.

I posted this on yahoo answers first, but the only response I got was "restart your outloook and try later." *facepalm* Glad to have found a place more dedicated to such problems.

Hi,

I've been trying to set up an email server on my network, so that people can check their emails from any computer, and any changes made on that computer to the emails (marked as read, deleted etc) will change the emails on the server accordingly. Kinda like an IMAP server if anyone has used them.

I recently set up Mercury Mail from www.pmail.com but this doesn't seem to do what I need it to. For instance, if I pick up my emails on 1 computer, they are removed from the server completely, so checking on a 2nd computer shows up no emails present.

Am I doing something wrong with Mercury, or should I be looking at another program?

Thanks

I have network of about 15 users using outlook.

I have a couple servers with plenty of space so I backup the pst files to the server or another pc in case of a hard drive failure on a workstation. I have an old compaq proliant server that is not in use and my boss thinks we ought to turn that into our email server.

I have never setup an email server so would have to figure that out & outlook is pretty simple to backup and restore the way I have it now. Was wondering what the advantages are if any on a small network like ours?

I guess maybe it would be easier to backup data on one mail server than to backup individual pst files on each workstation?

Any opinions appreciated!!

Sorry that just made me mad. Anyhoo here is my bother. Im my networking class in college we have finally dropped the book work and got into something in the real life area.

My group and I are implementing an Email server but im kinda hung up on the software part. I tried researching some basic ideas of creating an email server but everything I find seems to be tips and tricks for people who already have their servers running. This is new to all of us in the group and we are pretty much on our own to do this other than the instrutctor buying parts we need so im just looking for some advice to get us going.

We will be building a mid grade system for the server because it will only be used as a server for this project. We will be registering a domian name in a week or so when we get a little more accomplished. I was planning on using Windows 2000 Server for the OS. But the part im not sure about is the actual email software. I believe I saw quite a few different programs but im just not sure which one would be a good idea to use. I am wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what I should heading towards and if I would be correct in saying this would be all I need to the the mail server up and running? (along with a lot of configuration)

Thanks if anyone could direct me.

how do you figure that? You can't just modify the POP protocol and expect it to work with everyones mail clients. The only thing different is Google requires the connection to use SSL. POP is used to retrieve mail not send mail. SMTP is used to send mail.

SendMail has probably been one of the most widely used Mail Servers on the planet. Postfix would be another good option.

But since you want to run this on dreaded windows, you could use Hmailserver. Some of friends use this for their personal use.

MailEnable is another choice but I don't know anyone who is using it. Just did a google search.

Hi all, I'm kind of new to this whole forum thing so please bare with me if this is in the wrong place.

My company recently purchased a new server to act as a new domain controller. What I would like to do is set up the old server as an email server and configure it to use IMAP (We use POP3 at the moment and some of the directors would like to recieve their emails at home or from whatever computer they are using). I have looked all over google for some sound advise but all I really found were snipetts of info.

What I would like to know is can this be done without changing everyones email address? Currently our email goes to squirrelmail under [email protected], it then comes to us as [email protected]initials.com. Could I set the server up to recieve the [email protected] and still have it come to peoples computers as [email protected]?

As all our customers have our current email address ([email protected]initials.com trying to change them would be a nightmare!)

Any advise you could give me would be greatfully recieved! Along with any recommendations for software to use etc.

I hope you guys will help me out!

Thanks,

Hi, I've started up my laptop after a long downtime and I find my Thunderbird email can't get to the server. I believe the
password may have been changed since last time I used it. But I can't find the control that will allow me to see/change the server password. Can someone tell me where it is??
Thanks.
