I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For some reason, the normal Internet Explorer page icon for ".HTML" files is no longer showing up, and I am getting that little icon that means there is no program associated with that file-type.

When I open the files, however, they are opening in the Internet browser normally and working perfectly. I've tried to restore the icon via the "File Types" dialogue box in Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and the icon I am looking for (just the standard Internet Explorer page icon) is there, but it won't "stick" to the file-type and display as it should.

No other file-type is having this problem, and nothing that I can think of has changed recently to warrent it.

Does anyone know what I can do to get that icon back?

For some reason my system no longer displays the standard icon for HTML files. I've already tried to fix this by reassociating the icon for HTML and HTM file types, pointing to "%Programfiles%\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" and setting the icon. Reboot. No luck. Then I tried running a program called "shelliconfix" available at: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/shelliconfix.htm. Reboot. No luck, this did not fix it. Any idea why the icon will no longer be displayed? More of an annoyance than anything else.

Hiya. Im having a small annoyance problem with html file icons. Ive been using the firefox browser for about 3 months now, no problems, its great. I use win xp pro. I think this problem may have come about after i installed excel viewer 2003.. Anyway, my htm and html file icons have changed suddenly to the default data file icons instead of the regular firefox browser html icons. Ive gone into explorer>tools>folder options>file types, clicked the htm/html, advanced setting, went to change icon and received an error message saying: windows cannot find file %1 or something. I then located where the location of firefox.exe within my program files and chose 1 of the icons. Unfortunately, the icons do not change and remain as the default windows data file icons. I have also tried using any/all types of icons to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Have you tried this?

Open Windows Explorer and right click on an HTML file. Look for the option "open with". You might have to hold down the shift key while right clicking to bring up that option. Associate the HTML file with Firefox and it should show the correct icon.

i had installed my wifes ms office on my pc .. swedish version on a english version of windows .. it works fine ..but we decided we wanted to have it on her machine , so i uninstalled it on my machine and installed it on her machine ..no probs right !!
well now to my problem ..
all of my html files have the E icon to show they are IE files . but all of the files ( html ) that i have in my websites folder dont show an icon but they still open up with dreamweaver so i can edit them .why would this happen to only MY files from work and not anyother html file , lets say from IE sitting on my desktop . only in my websites folder ..?
also now if i right click a html file ( in my websites folder ) i get a context menu in swedish , not in the native english OS i have , which is in english -?
i have run sfc / scannow ..
i went to explorer>tools>>folder options file types> and set the icon /program to dreamweaver, doesnt work -
run a registry program 130 problems , still doesnt work .

not really sure how to get this back into form . any ideas .
cheers : TIMO

A:Solved: icon for html files ?

see, the problem is that HTML files have two extensions: .html and .htm. it seems that htm files were reclaimed by dreamweaver after u removed ms office, which is why they open in dreamweaver when u click them. the html files still have the swedish commands leftover, but they open in IE. just remove them from the Edit File Type box. to change the icons, u can do it from Folder Options-> File Types.

In the past when I saved a web page article, there is an accompanying folder which contains formatting and other whatnots the webpage author intended the viewer to see.

Since a week ago, no folder is ever saved with the html file. When I click on the file offline, it is "formatted" text only with no organized structure.

I use PaleMoonx64, a Firefox variant. Waterfox, which I hadn't used in a while, had the same result. Is there a simple answer? Like html5? I haven't tried the latest Firefox(x32) yet. If Opera, Chrome and IE do save container folders, I may have to consider alternative strategies.

A:Saved html files missing accompanying folders

Just putting the question to "paper" led me to the answer. I had "advertently" selected a different option, all files, in the "save as" dialogue box for a one-time difficult save. Forgotten and overlooked.

I am using Windows XP SP3.

I am trying to add an "edit" action to the .html file type. I have .html associated with Firefox. I go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types> and .html isn't even listed! (Nor is .htm) So I click "New" and add the .html file type. Then I click "Advanced" and fill in the action info and hit "OK". Then I hit "Close".

It doesn't work, and then when I go back into "File Types", html is not listed anymore. Basically, Windows is ignoring my attempts to add the .html file type.

I created the .xxx file type and added actions to open with Firefox and Word. It worked perfectly.

So what is it with the .html file type that Windows won't create it or list it?

What i would like to do is to create a HTML form, formatted the way they want it, with text boxes/pulldown menus, and fill in my information, and have the completed form either A)saved as an html form without the boxes; IE:the information gets added into the actual html OR B) All the information gets pushed into a word.doc.
Ultimately, i would like to have it save with something like this "Report-{date or month}.html (or doc).

Hi all,
My problem started a few weeks ago! I caught a Virus and Dr. Web got rid of it as well as some trojan downloaders that Malwarebytes killed.
The virus ruined my Avast as well as Google Chrome - so I installed Avira and Zone Alarm Firewall as well as ZA Forcefield browser. Avira continues to tell me I have a virus and quarantines it. I contacted Avira and they say it looks like a Zone Alarm problem - I contacted ZA - and am still waiting - I also uploaded these to Avira to be checked for a false positive and have not heard back from them either.
I was wondering - if I still have a problem or if this is a false positive?

A:HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script virus

A common attack against the web infrastructure can be the infection of harmless web pages. Some malware changes every HTML file stored on the disc and adds a link (very often an IFrame) to a site hosting malicious code. Other attacks can aim for the web servers and try to insert forwarding to the pages hosted there. The owner of these pages is advised to take them offline. Fix the hole (either on his own PC or on the server), check the pages for infections, clean them and go online again. Infected Web Pages often contain additional Iframe, Object or Script Tags. The Script Tags often contain encrypted Code.Special detection HTML/Infected.WebPage.GenSince Avira is making the detection and you submitted samples, I suggest you wait on a reply from them or follow up by contacting them again with a reminder.See this Avira link for a discussion of a similar report.

There is a relatively easy way of doing this. If you have some time to follow all of the steps that I suggest.

First you need to go to Ubuntu and download the .iso for Ubuntu. Once it is downloaded you will need to burn it to a livecd.
Go to Ubuntu
Download the .iso for the latest version

Burning .ISO files isn't the same as burning a regular cd. You need to have a burner that will handle .iso files. If you don't have one or aren't sure I would recommend CDburnerXP This is a free program and is very easy to use. Once you have it downloaded and installed you should burn a Data Disk. When burning the livecd I would recommend that you set the speed at 8x or 16x.
Go to CDburnerXP
Download the file for your computer
Install CDburnerXP
Create a Data Disk, set the speed to 8x or 16x.

Post back here when you have done all of that.

Default ICO in HTM-extension

Is there a way to restore icons in XP/SP2?
The problem appears that the HTM or HTMLextension is related to a generic default icon.
The HTM-extension opens the link Explorer allright.
The well known E icon seems to be missing.
The program RESEDIT however shows the E icons in the icons-cache.
Whith some applications it is possible to choose, or relate to, another icon.

I think it would be easier on you if you used the html version of the document. You could use Acrobat, but you would have you have the entire version and not the reader to be able to select text and have it in a format the could be used for email addresses.

I'm "computer stupid" and have searched all over the web for the way to do this (and it seems everyone else WANTS html and css). The result of all 1000 docs being altered has "upset W10" and now my Desktop has everything I ever saved as the entire screen is filled and it moves horizontally to include everything -- like a grocery store CheckOut counter. In addition, none of the icon titles match the material in the icon!

I don't even understand how to use the defaults. I see the Settings to System to apps and made a choice for TWINUP (?) due to advice from another source and since it doesn't work, now I can't get rid of that! That Apps section won't allow you to get rid of a choice....

When I just logged onto "Tech-Support" there was a large open window w/a little icon in the upper left corner and the rest of the page was blank. So whatever Tech-Support was posting when I entered the site was blank. On many pages when I see that icon, I know that's closed...I have no idea where it came from or how to remove it. I can open links to videos and pics, but the videos I loaded on a website I created cannot be opened from my side??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first icon in this image after the up arrow:

appeared shortly after I changed the ink cartridge on an HP printer. It does not show a tool tip when it is hovered over. Its entry in the System Tray customize screen has no associated text.
A double-click on the icon in the tray shows the system "working" rotating circle for about 1/4 of a second, but nothing appears to happen and no other key/click combo appears to get a result. Can anyone identify the icon? Can anyone recommend software that will either list programs in the system tray or show what process controls the object that the mouse is point towards?

By repeatedly double-clicking the icon, I was able to see the title that sometimes appeared in the process manager.

nvcplui.exe - is the nvidia control panel

Apparently it is not working properly or it would open, but that is a different problem.

Thanks for the forum, hope this post helps someone else.

I'm confused. You have marked the thread as solved.

As my title suggests my bro's laptop has this annoying infection.
I have Avira like my logs will say and the infection seems to be in a firefox profile. (Can I reinstall Firefox to fix my problem?)
I use Firefox but my brother IE 8 (and so IE is default).
At random times and when connected to Internet, a popup appears with usually
a scanner showing you its scanning your computer or ad for bad, virulent AV software. I know it's bad so I click
the X button in corner and it will go for a variable amount of time.
Avira btw cannot get rid of it and in fact does not even find it after scanning with maximum options.
This also happens sometimes much rare tho: A message appears telling I have an infected computer and wants me to press OK and scan using IE. I click X and once it opened IE with scanning screen. I click X ASAP.

One more issue: Firefox sometimes will say "Firefox has stopped working.."
and that it will close. Right away a balloon pops up in tray telling me the browser was closed to protect me from Data Execution Prevention.

Avira sometimes at random times pops up saying Virus or unwanted program was found, right? It asks me what to do with this file.
Move to quarantine
Overwrite and delete
Deny access

I usually picked delete or deny access
It found the virus in this file:

I understand I have Limewire. My brother uses it... Read more

Uh oh. Loaded Avast virus scan off Kim Komando after aquiring a home page and background thief. Ran scan and inadvertantly deleted a "Windows file" that would not repair. Now I have a flashing background and a sporadic message "Active Desktop HTML File missing." Is the fix as apparent as replacing that file and where do I find it without having software on disc.
Boy, do I feel like a clone.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and IE7. For the past year I have never had any problem saving a web page thru IE& for off-line reading,. The file was always saved as a “Web Archive, Single file (*.mht).” I must have done something wrong in playing around with my computer because I now cannot open any mht files that I save. This has been happening for the past week. When I click on the file to open it a dialog box pops up stating “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association control panel. I tried this but I guess I’m too slow in my thinking cause I still cant get it to work. I’ve read the help files to
no avail. Does anyone know what program opens these .mht files? I'm having the same problem with html files also I've tried the file association program with no success. Please help if you can. Many Thanks.

They should be set to open with IE or you third party browser.

I need to merge thousands of HTML files. I have stripped out the header info and the footer info so basically what I have are text files with an html extension. I have tried changing the file names from html to txt but do this creates files with corrupted text in the file.

I have tried inserting html files into a Word document but that only works for a few files and does not work for as many files as I have.

I have not been able to find a file merge utility that will merge all the html files together.

Question 1:
Is there a way, perhaps by vba code, of inserting a directory of html files into a Word document regardless of how many files are in the directory? The average directory size is about 5 meg.

Question 2:
Is there a way, any way, of merging or combining html files.

Question 3:
Is there a way, any way, of inserting a directory html files into an editor?

Thank you in advance for any replies.
