Nvidia settings and MSI Kombustor

Q: Nvidia settings and MSI Kombustor

Any particular setings in the control panel that I should be using?

I set my v-sync to force on and now in the gpu burn in, I get a steady frame rate of 60fps rather than 155fps which it was running at before, so what you might ask, well thing is even with post FX applied and 8X multisampling turned on, my GPU load was only 43%!

I have read that really you should use Kombustor to ascertain whether your video card is stable, firstly at stock frequencies but also at any overclock frequencies and that the tests should relate to what your usage would be, well surely V-sync is a good thing for that as anything above the V-sync frame rate is just a waste as your monitor cannot display it and its stressing your GPU far more than is needed.

In previous testing the GPU load went upto 98% which is fair enough you are pushng the card as far as it can and being sure it is stable, but in the real world when your running your games the speed of your monitor is the limitaton.

In my case a 1980x1080p HDTVat 60HZ, therefore my usage will ever only require that frame rate, as I say anything else is a waste, your graphics card is working hard but your moniitor cannot display it.

I know some monitors are 100hz and some 120hz, but at full load on the GPU my card was giving 155FPS, which is higher than most will ever need to go.

So another question, is testing this way a good thing? To me if my graphics card can do the job using 43% rather than needing 98% then V-sync is a good idea to turn on plus it will surely extend the life of your card.

Preferred Solution: Nvidia settings and MSI Kombustor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Nvidia settings and MSI Kombustor

If you're benchmarking, I'd say turn off v-sync, as you'd really want to see what your card is capable of, not whether it tears, right? I'm not familiar with Afterburner so I couldn't help you tweak anything, sorry.

If you're playing games, though, I'd enable it if you never see fps below your refresh rate. If you play a game that's borderlining on your refresh rate at some points, or perhaps frequently, enable triple buffering if possible. If the frames would ever drop below your refresh rate with v-sync enabled and triple buffering disabled, it'll divide the refresh rate by a whole number, which could instantly half your frame rate, but with triple buffering enabled, your gpu would be keeping extra prerendered frames in yet another back buffer, giving it more to do instead of wasting time waiting for the screen to refresh.

I have no idea about v-syncing making your gpu last longer or not, though I'd surmise if it's generating less heat then it would take longer to degrade.

Good Day everyone! I hope you guys can help me with this problem. Just a few hours ago I began experiencing sudden appearances of artifacts while playing Mass Effect 3 on the PC. I immediately thought about my video card dying. It's a one year old GTX 460. I was hoping though that this problem is more of software than hardware because I really don't have the money to buy a new card. Right now the screen looks normal nothing shows. But when I open up Kombustor or play ME 3 after awhile my screen would freeze with white artifacts then turn black (background music of game still plays on the background though no response at all), sometimes BSOD with artifacts (also POST sometimes have artifacts too). On one occasion the game crashed to desktop then my wi-fi dongle cut off and a message indicates usb error. I unplugged then plugged it again then wi-fi is normal again. I guess that's all the info I can give. But any questions I can answer, just help me through it if it's technical. Thank You guys!

By the way the rig is dusty too so maybe that's one reason for the BSOD, I'll clean it up in the morning if I could.

A:BSOD playing Mass Effect 3 and MSI Kombustor, error 0x00000050

The latest BSOD is caused by athurx.sys - Atheros AR9271 Wireless Network Adapter

Driver Reference Table - athurx.sys

I suggest having a look for an updated driver.

As for the artifacts that really does sound like your GFX card is on it's way out - I'd check the fans were clean and functioning properly at the very least.

Hello everyone,

Windows XPpro

I have an NVIDIA settings icon on the right hand side of my task tray.

If I click on it, I can see various options for changing desktop settings etc.

Under desktop manager it is disabled.

I was trying to find out more about it, as I am a little confused.

I cannot find it installed via Programmes.

Just wondered if I should be making more use of this.

A:Solved: NVIDIA Settings

Hi, Here is some info:

It's primarily for multi-monitor systems and has been seen to cause problems for some.

The icon in the right hand tray is OK, I use mine without any problems, but that is under win98se...
The settings icon is part of the video driver.

I'm convinced what I want to happen is possible, but no matter how much tweaking I do I can't ever seem to get it right.

I've got a Nividia Geforce 5500 card. Running in dualview, I want to be able to spark up mediaplayer/powerdvd and the video play in full screen on the TV but in windowed format on the monitor.

Ideally I'd like to collapse the monitor's window completely, but when I do this the video hangs on the TV, even tho the sound continues.

Also windows (mainly dialogs) keep popping into the TV display when I open them, and I want them to only appear on my monitor.

Other times, the video plays full screen on the monitor and makes the TV what I presume is the primary display. It can be the case that if the TV is not the primary display then videos won't play AT ALL (!) on the TV, but run in the mediaplayer window.

I'm really struggling to get this to happen all at once, I seem to have to compromise on one aspect or the other, but my system must be able to handle it because I did, at one time (though I have no idea what I did), have this happen on a P3 with a Geforce 440MX, so my P4 should be able to eat this up. I'm running all the latest drivers, so it's a case of fiddling with the settings, but I'm going round in circles.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

If you did this with a p3, what ver windows.
And not able to do this same thing on p4, what ver. of windows

Almost sounds like a software issue,

What settings are you talking about? Resolution? Try installing latest driver from nVidia's site and it should work. If you have an old driver Windows Update will try to replace it and restore the default settings. This also affects resolution.

Just wondering what the best settings are for Windows Media Center and IE8/IE9.

I have a GTX460 1GB and a 3Ghz Quad Core i7 CPU.

Here is what I am talking about:

I put everything to quality, but I dont really know what I am doing, so any help would be appreciated...

A:NVidia settings for best picture quality?

Its usally fine to just leave as it is as even viewing hd content is pretty easy for a 460 so no matter what you put it on it shouldnt affect it, maybe give it prioty over other programs, putting it all on max/quality wont hurt tho.
With ccc i just let the appliction choose.
I higly doubt with a system like that it will make any difference what settings you choose as it is quite high powered.

Something weird just happened

The Nvidia Control Panel settings won't save . No matter what i do.I tried opening the Nvidia Control Panel .EXE file with Compatibility Mode.It won't save.

Then i tried checking the box saying , Run this program in Compatibility Mode with my OS.It won't save , still.

I do remember opening my Nvidia Gforce Experience this afternoon and it asked for the Game Ready Updates to install. It also asked for other Drivers to install. And i have not installed ANY updates from Nvidia Gforce Experience.

Is this the reason

Or today , Google asked something about checking my system or something.I just clicked , i agree , and clicked , NEXT , NEXT and next...

Could that be a reason

A:Nvidia Control Panel Settings won't save ...

OH MY GOD , Guys.....

I was so upset since yesterday night. And i went to this shop close to my home , thinking i am going to take my rig for fixing. Also , i thought that i am gonna give my RIG to the people who assembled it and was so sad due to this.

I wondered , why don't i accept the Gforce requests and just give it a try, since i have to take my pc anyway for fixing this Nvidia Control Panel issue. So, i just accepted the requests and installed a Gforce Game Ready install followed by a Gforce Driver Installation (which i did through a clean install as Sevenforums suggested me ) .

During the Driver installation via Gforce , something strange happened i.e when it said , uninstalling Nvidia Control Panel , my screen went blank for like 1 minute and then came back...

I was hesitant to try these updates , since i have seen stories of people saying their system crashed and similar..Anyways , next thing you know , i opened the Nvidia Control Panel and it is saving now

I am going to restart my computer just to make sure that everything is working fine...

Mind that the day I installed Seven, everything was running fine and as usual like with WinXPpro (100Hz - 32bit - 1024/768), but after a few updates, my sceen became to flikker and set back to 70Hz. If i try to set 100Hz, i only get 16bit colors.

Hey Folks,

I am running build 7127 of Windows 7 x64, with the latest N-Vidia Drivers from their website.

Basically the problem I have is that my N-Vidia Control Panel settings do not seem to be applying.

I have the advanced settings option set, with anti-aliasing, and all of the other settings turned up to max, however these settings are not applying to any of my games or programs.

I was previously running build 7067 with the March Drivers and these settings worked fine, however they do not seem to be working here.

I tried rolling back to the March drivers however this did not resolve the problem which leads me to suspect some issue in the OS?

Any solutions people?

I would like to enable v-sync for when I play the game Pro Evolution Soccer 6. But in Vista with the newest official Nvidia-drivers (100.65) it seems the Nvidia Control Panel won't remember the settings.
I read somewhere that I should change the write permission on the file nvapp.xml in windows/system32 and I have done that.
It has helped to insure that the entry I make in the 3d settings for the .exe file of the game remains and it seems the settings are set the way I want, but they have no effect! When enabling v-sync I should get rid of the tearing on my screen (a "line" moving cross the screen) but it makes absolutely no difference, hence I believe it doesn't remember the settings.

Any ideas what's wrong?

I have a small problem.
I tried overclocking my GPU.
The settings are applied in MSI Afterburner. (I also tried Ntune)
But it isn't applied on the GPU itself.
I tried to OC the GPU core clock to 600 Mhz, but it is stuck at 405 Mhz (Shader clock is stuck at 810 Mhz, and memory clock is stuck at 405 Mhz as well)
According to GPU-Z my default clock is: GPU clock 520 Mhz; Memory clock 500Mhz; Shader clock 1230Mhz
But in the sensors tab it just shows 405;405;810 again..
(So it's underclocked?)

One weird thing I noticed is that the max. GPU load is 99% and not 100%... why?

Also added two attachments (screenshot & specs)

My temperatures are fine (I think), since the max. temperature is 95 degrees Celsius or something. And the card becomes 45 degrees celsius on full load. (measured using GPU-Z and Speedfan; fully loaded using FurMark (1024x768, no Anti-aliasing) And the GPU core is 37 degrees celsius when idle.

Thanks in advance,

A:NVIDIA Control Panel only showing stereoscopic 3d settings

As most people online suggest/say, the problem is not a problem at all. Your computer (Almost 100% sure of it) runs on an integrated graphics card. The card itself handles all the problems so there is no need for any extra options or anything of the sort.

Then again, you can try going into device manager and "restart" your drives. (In other words Enable + Re-enable). If that doesn't work you can reinstall the drives, followed by an update.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hopefully this should work.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit and seem to be having a problem with the graphics drive. Under Device Manager, I do have an exclamation point besides NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 under Display Adapters. When I click on it and select 'Check for Solution' in the General tab, I get a window that says 'could not load driver software.' When I select 'Update Driver Software' Windows determines that the driver software is up to date. There's no driver to roll back to and when I uninstalled it and then restarted my computer, it reinstalled but the exclamation point is still there. I did go to nvidia.com and have them automatically find drivers. Version 280.86 was installed, which gave me a NVIDIA settings icon in the toolbar that, when left clicked, says, "NVIDIA display settings are not available. You are not currently using a device attached to an NVIDIA GPU." No idea what that means.

I'm not even sure if this matters or if it's the cause of the problem with the screen resolution I'm having. I have a HP x1907 display with recommended settings of 1440x900-60Hz and last week after restarting after an update (I want to say it was a HP Portrait update) I turned on the computer and the display settings had changed. 1440x900 isn't an option in Display Settings and it looks off at its current 1024x768, the only setting that isn't impossibly big or way too small.

When I right click on the desktop screen and go to HP Display -> Tune Disp... Read more

I would sign up here:

HP Business Support Center

and download the original drivers that came with the machine.

It says "business" support but it's free with volunteers like here. It's not a paid support.

"You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU."
That happens when I try to access the control panel.
What does this mean? Was I correct in assuming that my laptop wasnt using the NVIDIA video card?
Is there any way to fix it to be able to access my NVIDIA control panel?

A:"NVIDIA Display settings are not available."

I will suggest to uninstall GPU drivers and install the latest (if beta is available, install that one) drivers for your Nvidia GPU.
Check on Lenovo site, if they have drivers for your system. This Link might have the drivers needed.

I'm not a gamer, but rather an enthusiastic net surfer and would like my present graphics card to be as fast as easily possible. To do this, it has been suggested that I update my card's driver with downloading/installing Nvidia's latest driver (285.62 WHQL, Win7 64-bit...4G RAM, Firefox 9). Would this be the the right thing to do?

O... Here's my dillema.   My HP NVIDIA card (HP p/n 466762-001 rev:M03) in my HP Model: 9520f Windows 7 Ultimate machine failed.   I replaced it with an ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT card (p/n 5188-8004, asus p/n C403H) that came from a spare HP Pavillion Model a6150y Vista machine I had on hand. The initial VID/Graphics card failure and susequent replacement caused much havock with Windows and some other stuff (ie, not booting/loading Windows etc...) and after much effort I was able to get everything loading & working reasonable well again.   But the problem I'm still having is with the old drivers (removing them and all their remnants) and loading the new drivers for the ASUS NVIDIA card that is now in my machine.  I've tried normal uninstalls as well as the GURU 3D.com DDU uninstall.  I think (and it appeares) that all the old NVIDIA drvers and other software has been uninstalled because I can not find any of it in the normal locations.   But I am still unable to install the NVIDIA 8500GT drivers for the ASUS card from the NVIDIA site or even the NVIDIA drivers/software updates that Windows Update has detected and suggested in Windows updates.  The insalls start out fine but soon fail to complete. Evidently I (and my brother who was in my machine remotely for a good 6 hours because he is an IT/Computer tech and is ten times more knowledgable than I on this) are missing something very... Mermiatwd, welcome to the forum. I suggest that you try Revo Uninstaller free version to see if it solves you problem.  I use the Advanced option.  It removes the program from the HDD and the remnants from the BIOS.  I have used it for years with great success with removing those difficult to remove programs. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I have a Laptop, about 6 months old now.
It's a Samsung RF511.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.00Ghz
DDR3 8192 Mb Ram
Nvidia 540M 2GB
My problem is, whenever I try to view a photo it would lag opening and once its opened I'd see blue pixel fragments all over my screen. Previously I tried to Re-install the latest driver. That didn't work. I uninstalled it and removed the registries and what not, that didn't work. So I'm now on a newly formatted Laptop and opening the Default images the Windows provides gives me these errors. Before I formatted I was getting these Errors - "Nvidia Display Driver Has Stopped Responding and Successfully Recovered".
I've read this link and I've done some of what they've said as I stated above.

I don't have anything installed other then Starcraft 2 which is being Optimized right now - and that's it.
I had Photoshop CS6 installed on my previous Installation of Windows and when this problem Occured Photoshop had trouble as well.

So does anyone know what I can do?
I really don't want to send the Laptop off. I'd like to see if I can fix it myself first. If not then I'll send it in.
Any help would be appreciated...

I've attaced an image showing what these blue pixel blocks look like with the Driver Displaying stopped responding

I forgot to add. I was getting the same Blue pixel things, and a lot more when I would open up Starcraft 2. The game ... Read more

I regularly check for driver updates with the Lenovo tool.  Recnetly, I've noticed that I have the following driver that's called for as an update: NVIDIA Display Driver (NVIDIA N16S / Quadro N16P) However, I've never successfully gotten it to install.  Finally I manually downloaded it and ran the install.  During the CMD window that scrolls by with details, I see these lines at the end: INFO: Did not install 'c:\drivers\win\nvidiagraphics\nvidia\display.driver\nvlt.inf' because it is not better than the current drivers.INFO: Returning with code 0x100 Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas why we keep getting these types of driver 'updates' when they're not actually updates? Thanks for you input in advance!

Hi all,
I have a XPS 8300 from 2011.
My son wanted to upgrade his GPU (he has a Erazer 310 (www.inet.se/.../lenovo-erazer-x310-gtx-750) which has a Nvidia GTX 750 Ti like this one (www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-750-Ti-Desktop-Graphics-Card.126721.0.html)
So I thought it was the perfect time to take his 750 Ti and upgrade both PC's at the same time.
I took my GPU out of the XPS 8300 and inserted the 750 TI. Nothing happened. The PC did not recognize the card.
Then I started to read all types of discussions, problems, adventures and what not, about this PC and a GPU upgrade. Man, I was about to do a BIOS flashing without even knowing what that meant...I have to admit that it has been 2 very interesting days and I have learnt a lot and then...
Then I found the simpliest video with the simplest explanation on how to do proceed. I tried it and completely succeeded in about 15 minutes (plus 10 minutes of downloading a driver).
So, here is the link to the video. The video is in Spanish but these are the SO LOGICAL steps (www.youtube.com/watch):
I added two steps on my own and then followed the video:
1. My step: Turn on the PC and unistall the stock GPU (from the device manager)
2. Turn of the computer.
The video explanation starts in second 50:
3.Disconnect the power (for security reasons).
4. Open the case and extract the GPU you currently have (he does not show this in the video)
5. Check that at least you have 300 W. The XPS 8300 has a 460 W power supply so... Read more

I've had this P40 a year or so with no issues. Discovered some sluggish graphics performance, checked to make sure nvidia was being used, and it wasn't. Went to change the nVidia settings and there was no nVidia control panel in my menus. Tried installing the latest drivers for the Quadro M500M. Uninstalled all nVidia drivers and software, directories (in C:\ and in Program Files) and installed selecting the "clean installation" option. Nothing I do will bring the nVidia control panel back. The whole reason I purchased this was the Quadro support. Outraged I just paid for another year of warranty only to find out that doesn't cover software issues at all. Anyone have a suggestion? Before I sell this and buy a machine from a brand with better support while under warranty.

I am trying to set my monitor's screen give accurate renditions of my pictures. I use Quick Gamma to set gamma. When doing this I can use either Nvidia's controls or windows controls (right click desktop>Nvidia Control Panel. When using Nvidia's Control Panel, there are two choices: Use other applications control color settings or Use Nvidia settings.

First question: Am I correct in assuming that the former setting is Windows?

I always check the button to use Nvidia settings (and then Apply>OK), but when I go back to this screen at a later time, the Other applications control color settings is always selected. How come? I'd like to default to Nvidia.
