Roll Back Printer Drivers for Network Printer?

Q: Roll Back Printer Drivers for Network Printer?

Hi guys,

Kind of annoying problem here... I have an HP LaserJet 1200 hooked up via USB to a Mac that is running 10.5 (Leopard). For the printer's first 5 years or so everything was great. I could get new computers set up to print to the printer with no troubles, until recently.

Recently, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 and wanted to get the printer working again. I attempted to install the printer using the HP LaserJet 1200 PCL 6 printer drivers. It connected to the printer alright, but every time I printed it came out with a PCL XL Error: "Error: UnsupportedProtocol" instead of my document.

Now, every time I try to connect a new computer (Windows 7 or Windows XP, doesn't matter) the printer automatically installs the PCL 6 driver for the printer... which always prints out an error instead of the document I want. I can't find a way to manually choose the driver when I'm adding it because it's a network printer, not one that's locally hooked up.

I tried installing the PCL 5 driver manually, but the printer still ONLY wants the PCL 6 driver that gives me the errors. I tried to go to "Server Properties" while in Printers and Faxes to roll back the PCL 6 driver, but Windows can't find a driver to roll it back to.

Now, if I physically hook the printer up to the computer via a USB cable, it installs the PCL5 Driver and it works... but that's only when it's plugged directly in.

I'm extremely frustrated and would like any guidance anyone can give me. Thank you so much for your help in advance!

Christian

Preferred Solution: Roll Back Printer Drivers for Network Printer?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues.

First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%. It doesn't not show up as installed. I copied the CD to the desktop, modified Setup.exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install; however, when I go to Device Manager, it says no driver is found. I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer (which has the green bar run across the top, then pulsate and freeze).

Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart. The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard.

I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble. That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness!

Additionally, attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up/freezing soon in to the process, whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu, file or Uninstall program. I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up/freezes. FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while so there are ma... Read more

A:Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo

Hi columbia93, welcome to 7F!

Printers are touchy animals, when installing any printer you have to follow the install procedures exactly as described by the manufacturer.

This may be the root cause:

Quote:
FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while

Not that you haven't been able to check it, but there may be an accumulation of problems on your Mom's machine that also are stopping the update process.

I am trying to find one of 7F's tutorials on improving performance of a computer, but it boils down to cleaning out all detritus that a machine can accumulate of a period of time.
I did find this but there is another one: Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover The first three options would help

Run Antimalware/virus scans, run a Check Disk then a sfc /scannow then try to uninstall that old printer driver, and if that works shut down the machine, and try to install the printer without the HP disk, when it looks, but asks if you have the disk say no and allow the OS to install what it has.
It is my understanding that HP Printer drivers already come with Windows 7.

But do the cleanup first and see if that helps.

Has anyone rolled back their AMD Catalyst suite software/drivers to a previous version? I've Googled until my fingers were ready to fall off, and I can't find solid instructions for this. Do I roll back in device manager? Uninstall the AMD Catalyst Manager? Just reinstall the previous version?

The Catalyst suite is not just a driver, so I don't think this can be done through the Windows device manager interface.

Tried adding new HP printer drivers (m177 to a m452dn) however, now receiving a printer spooler failure with the resulting output:
Windows can't Add Printer.
The remote procedure call failed
and
Windows can't open Add Printer.
The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine.
I've tried windows recover, importing a registry known working registry file and copy /spool from working donor, but continuing to receive the problem.

Is there a good resource or troubleshooting guide or documentation online to reference?

I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My problem is: Whenever I try to print something (word, pdf, or any other file); printer spooler stops working and when I check the “Devices and Printers” all the printer drivers seem to be disappeared.

I checked the “Print Spooler” in the “Services” tool; and set the "Recovery after subsequent failures" option to “Restart the Service”. Therefore all the printer drives coma back after 1 minute. However the spooler stops immediately again when the uncompleted printing job starts; hence I can not print anything more than a page.

Earlier in this forum, someone posted that Microsoft issued a hotfix for this problem ( hotfix 2388142) which can be downloaded from article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142.

I downloaded this hotfix and tried to install, however it gives an error message of: “The update is not applicable to your computer” and quits installation.

I did uninstall and reinstall all the printer drives, but this did not help either.
Any suggestion?
Thanks,

A:Printer spooler keeps stopping and printer drivers keep disappearing

Yeah, I had the same issue. Even when I went into services and restarted it, it would shut back down and the printers would disappear. I tried working with the registry like a few suggested, but didn't help. The only fix that worked for me was to go back about a week on the restore point, and then all the printers reappeared and worked...

Brief synopsis:
I recently did a new Windows XP install (after a crash). Now I cannot get my printer to install. The printer is a SHARED printer (HP Deskjet F380) on another machine on the network. The printer was previous installed on this machine before the crash and reinstall of WinXP.
After nearly 2 hours on the phone w/ HP support, it's been determined (by HP support) that somewhere in the XP install, a missing XP driver is keeping this install from properly allowing any printers to be installed. The printer will 'appear' to be installed, but any attempt to print brings an error saying printer drivers aren't properly installed.

Short of doing ANOTHER complete XP install, any suggestions?

Setup and installation went smoothly until just recently. In the last 2 months, the PC "loses" the printer drivers for our Nashuatec MP 3300 multifunction office printer.

The printer still shows as installed in the Control Panel but the status shows as "Printer: Needs new driver". I then have to install the new drivers from the print server using my admin credentials. The PCthen retains the drivers until the next day when it loses them again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

So, recently I was just simply playing a video game with my friend on Skype, and in the middle of it, my audio stopped working. This was pretty spooky to me, since I had never had this happen to me before. So naturally I told my friend to hang up and give me a moment or two, and when I opened up the volume mixed, it showed that I had no audio drivers installed. I simply thought, "Hey can't you rollback changes to like a week ago?" I did some research and all the results were just about rolling back fully, or to Windows 7/8.1 which isn't what I was looking for. If any of you can please tell me how to rollback simple changes, that'd be really helpful, but as for now. I can't entertain myself, I have no audio, and it's really spooky, and no I haven't recently been installing anything.
Hope one of you can help .

I'm an intern at a non-profit for the summer and was given my own little office. The small problem I have is with trying to print webpages, specifically the format that a page would be when you try to print off google maps...
When printing in other programs such as office I can select which printer. (There are 5 network printers, 2 that print double sided, 2 that are desktop units in other people's cubes, and 1 that is the fax machine). However when printing off a webpage I am only given two options, "MS Office Document Image Writer" and "Microsoft XPS Document Writer".
How can I make any of the other printers availible/show up when I'm trying to print a webpage? The tech guy is covering about 4 other jobs and told me I'm free to fiddle/add/edit system stuff on my machine. I tend to be pretty good about most things but am not experienced with networking.
Any help would be appreciated, let me know if any clarification is necessary.
I'm running Windows XP all current updates have been installed.
Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I'm getting quite frustrated with this issue and wondering if anyone has seen it, and able to resolve the issue. The issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.

Steps taken:

* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this.
* Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.
* Had a Microsoft support dude to look at the issue, but he has no idea either.

A few of my pilot users has also experience the same issue. Any ideas anyone?

I have 100 windows 7 pc's on this network and only 1 pc is having this problem with 2 printers.  For 6 months now I have been googling and trying to fix the issues with 2 of her 5 printers showing "offline".  All printers are installed
the same way via the server here on site.  And only 2 of them are continually having this issue.

I have changed SNMP
All the printers are on a static IP already
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printers via the server
I manually deleted the ports and reinstalled them manually using add printer/add port wizard
I have deleted the print queue and restarted print spooler on both her machine and my server
I reinstalled the print spooler on the local machine
I updated to the most recent manufacturers drivers for the printers

The printers in question are a Xerox 7800 and a Kyocera 5050 copier/scanner.  Al these printers are working and operatin fine on every other machine on the network here even while this one machine is showing offline.  I am at wits end with this
issue.  We have 2 of us in IT that serve this office and 7 remote offices to the tune of 300 employees (i know, its ridiculous), and I do not have an easy way to just rebuild her machine as we are swamped/this is a production machine/i dont have a temp
machine that I can put her on that will have all the applications she will need.  If someone has some magic they can send in a box I would be beyond grateful.

The only way I can get it to print the jobs listed is to restart my computer and it automatically prints all the jobs. Also, if I go in to cancel the jobs it will not print anything until I restart.

How are you connected? By what sort of network and what is the device in the printer to which you plug the network card.
This is fairly common in our area with those using Belkin Wireless.
But we find that most clients are not properly connecting everything in the network... using the Microsoft and HP network troubleshooting usually cures the problem.

Hi there

After fighting a losing battle with Linux (SAMBA 4) and Windows Networking -- I rolled back my CENTOS 7 Host to CENTOS 6.7 with SAMBA 3.6.23

All Network problems FIXED at a stroke -- even the VM's on the Linux box can see other physical Windows boxes and vise versa.
All Windows boxes both VM and real can communicate both with each other and the server.

Mixture of W7 / W10 and XP -- all seeing and working 100%. W10 latest W10 x-64 pro with all updates (retail version --i.e not the Insider version -- will test that later. The Shared files are all accessible from all the windows boxes with the correct permissions too.

Seems that some networking in SAMBA 4 must have changed -- even though the installation manual recommended using SAMBA 4 for Windows 10 connectivity specifically.

I'm using the server (CENTOS) essentially as a file / multi-media server and run a couple of VM's on it so rolling back to 6.7 from 7 with an older kernel was no big deal --it's still supported until 2020 -- who knows what hardware I'll have then. !!!

Not sure why it cleared up problem with other WINDOWS PHYSICAL machines on the network - but Windows networking to me is like the Wizard in the Harry Potter books. Still it's all working -- don't know how or why but I'm happy now.

Last week Windows Update installed an update for the Realtek network driver. Its Driver Date is 23 October 2016. A couple hours after installation and a restart, the driver stopped working. In Device Manager it had the Code 45 error 'Currently the hardware device is not connected to the computer'. I managed to fix it by doing a System Restore to undo the update. Later that day, my PC installed the update again and I have had no problems until today. System Restore did not work this time around. Hi,

I work in IT doing Help Desk/Support for a company.

We want to give standard users restricted assess to a printer. If they are a manager they can print in colour, but if they are just a standard staff member they only get the option to print in black & white.

An example would be using a black & white driver for a colour printer. People who print to the Black & White device driver won't have the option for colour.

Is this possible and how so using Windows 10 & 7.

Thank you.

A:Creating two different printer drivers on the same printer?

I'm a Windows 7 person, however, perhaps I can give an educated guess. For the managers, create a color printer using the printer's provided drivers [or let Windows Update get them]. For the standard user, create a black and white printer coming as close to the specs of the color printer as possible. Let's say Zumba 2000A is the color printer. Give the managers Zumba 2000A. Give the standard users Zumba 1000A, the black and white printer. You will need to test from standard users' computers to see if this idea will work for each standard user. For a different reason, I did that once. I "created" an HP Laser Series II "printer" [which WU generously supplied the drivers for] , then installed my Brother HL-1440 [again WU generously provided the drivers for this printer also]. Solved my printing problem. Awhile later, finally, I was able to jettison both printers and just install the Brother printer correctly.

First I go to Control Panel (on my laptop) and add a new printer. I select Networkprinter and can "see" my new printer in the list. However, I get a message that I must install drivers for the printer on my laptop! I downloaded the newest software for Vista and installed it. Somehow my laptop can't connect with the new printer.
On my main computer I made sure that the new printer is "shared".

A couple of questions for you.

1) Do you have your pc's set up in a workgroup?
2) Have you given the laptop "rights" to the printer?

Do you get an error message of any type since you installed the drivers?

My home setup is similar to yours, desktop with printer attached, printer shared, laptop prints to the printer.

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

Hi. I have a Epson Workforce WF-3640 printer. I was in the middle of printing out my son's term paper, when I heard it stop working. Noticed it was off. Tried to turn back on. Nothing. Check cord to make sure connected securely at back of printer and at outlet. Also check for a tripped breaker. And nothing. I just bought this brand new from Best Buy in February. Please help.
Thank-You

A:Printer won't turn back on

If the printer is getting any power I would try:

A different outlet.
A different power cord.
Checking to see if the printer is still under warranty with the manufacturer and/or Best Buy.

I have my default printer HP 2015 set. After I use my epson ET 2550, it won't go back to the default printer. Because of this, when I print a word document, it stays on the ET 2550, how can I get the system to recognize that the HP 2015 is my defaut, (which it is now set), and not stay on the epson? Thanks

A:Printer won't go back to default

Unless you disable it, there's a setting in Windows 10 that recognizes the "last used" printer as the default one.

Since the Epson was your "last used" printer, Windows 10 is recognizing it as the default one.

When you get ready to print a Word document, just select the Epson to print it.

Win7 Pro, an HP Officejet AIO self-installed (plug & play) on USB a few weeks ago.   Then the printer was disconnected to send to an "out of office" employee and a different HP - just a color Officejet printer - was plugged in USB &
also self-installed.   The old printer was "deleted" from the "Devices & Printers" but every time the user logs in, the old printer returns like a ghost, its image greyed-out.
I have tried - to no avail - to remove it completely.  I've gone into "print server properties/drivers" and tried o remove the "driver & package" - it fails claiming the AIO is still in use, which of course it isn't.   I saw a post
somewhere that said to remove the USB port in Device Mgr - then reboot - that didn't work either.
HP says since it installed plug & play - without their software - they cannot advise what to do.
So what CAN I do to get rid of this ghost?
Thanks.

A:Deleted printer keeps coming back

In your search box type print management or go to control panel, administrative tools, then printer management. All the printers should be listed there under print servers. You should be able to remove  the printer by right clicking and selecting
delete and once the printer is removed you can try removing the driver as well.

A:Printer Setting goes back to default

Try going into control panel,
Printers,
Right click your printer,
Printing preferences,
and set your preferred setting from there
click apply and save

My printer fell off my table. The green light is flashing in the back when I plug up the power cord but it will not power on. Does that mean that the printer is damaged or is there something I can do to get the power to work.

Does your printer have controls? If so, perhaps they got turned around. If not you could try uninstall and reinstall of the printer.

When I installed the release candidate I immediately did a True Image backup of the installation. Boy, am I glad I did.

I began to add programs and printers and when I added my HP Photosmart 2575 and then its Vista drivers. I then made another backup of the what I had added to that point. I now get a 9F stop on shutting down after I have done something with the printer as simple as printing a page.

I restored to the original installation and added the Photosmart using only the RC's driver. All is well under that setup and would like to go back to the second backup and uninstall the Vista drivers and use the RC's drivers but can't find any way to roll back the driver to RC one. If I try 'New Driver', the system seems only to find the Vista driver.

How can I delete the Vista driver from my system so that I have only the RC drivers?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

A:Going Back to Original Printer Driver

So let me see if I have this right . .

You want to revert to your second back-up, and remove the Vista drivers from your system and use only the RC1 drivers?

If so, this should be easy enough . .

Goto your Device Manager and navigate to your printer . .
Right Click on your printer and select Uninstall
When the window pops up to confirm, check the box that says Remove driver software from my computer.
Restart your computer, and Windows 7 should install it's own drivers

Hope this helps

Scott

P.s. Have you tried the Rollback Driver option ?

Hi -

I would like to set up my computer (Vista) to have my printer listed twice - one that i will set as the default and will print in Black and White, and a second version that prints in color.

I know this is possible, because i used to have it set up like this. Then i had to re-install Vista, and i can't remember how to do it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hey all, I bought a wireless print server and have found that I need to have the actual drivers for the printer in order to use the wireless print server. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I have an HP OfficeJet 6200 series all-in-one printer and I can't actually find just the drivers. I have the setup CD and believe it or not I can't find the drivers alone on that CD. I tried looking for them on HP's web site and all they offer is a DL of the setup CD. I searched the web but couldn't find them. I went to driverguide.com and couldn't find them there, either. Does anyone here know where I can find them or know of a way I can extract them from the setup CD? If not I will simply return the print server, but I'd rather not go that route unless it's necessary. Let me know what you think.

A:Where to get printer drivers...

they have drivers on the website

Hi guys!

I wonder if anyone can help me find latest drivers for Samsung ML-1750 laser printer. I need drivers so I can use it on Windows 7 64bit.

Been searching everywhere but with no luck even on Samsungs homepage.
Those I downloaded from their homepage are from 2006,they cant be good for windows 7.

A:Drivers for my Printer

If you can find VISTA drivers, you can use them in Windows 7 by installing them in Vista compatibility mode ... Compatibility mode allows a older program written for an earlier versions of Windows to possibly run in Windows 7. You can also use Compatibility mode to always have a program to Run as an administrator.

I want to pull the printer drivers from a remote machine and install them onto a new machine that is going to replace it. Easy enough.

The remote machine though can't be accessed until I can literally be right next to it switching it over to the new one. Keeping a few people from making production.

So I have done everything via the filesystem up until this point. There doesn't seem to be an easy way about it.

I have downloaded Microsoft Print Migrator and tried to connect to the target computer but it doesn't list any printers. Very odd.

It is an XP Pro machine btw.

I would like to find a way to pull the driver from the filesystem (ie: \\pc-name\c$\) or the registry and be able to install it.

Ideas?

A:Printer Drivers

Much easier surely to download the driver install package from the printer manufacturer's website and save it on a removable device such as a USB pen drive?

Doing it your way way would be a no-go as you would need the installer/setup file for the driver -- in other words the complete driver package, without which the driver won't install on another machine.
