Device list out of control

Q: Device list out of control

I thought a wifi password was enough security, but when visiting my parent's house and having them complain about slow internet all the time, I decided to look into it.
I've never seen so many unknown devices on a network and I'm unsure on how to go about resolving it. Clearing and refreshing the device list as well as changing the wifi password didn't seem to do anything. Ideas???

Preferred Solution: Device list out of control

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So my laptop is having some MS account login grief. I won't go into huge detail as I have another post about it.

I wondered if there is some kind of glitch on the verify. So it got me thinking, what if I go into account.microsoft.com/devices and remove the laptop from my account using another PC. What will happen to the laptop when I next boot up and try to login? Will it allow me to log in with MS account again? Will it mess with my apps and software I already have installed? Will it ask me to verify my account under settings - accounts again? What happens to the other user accounts currently on the laptop (my wife's admin and son's child account) which are part of the family - can they login again, will they be asked to verify again under settings - accounts once they've logged in?

I am desperately trying to get to the bottom of an issue where anything MS account related on my laptop (desktop has no such issues) can intermittently be really slow. It's not slow to login and display the desktop but cortana interests won't show for anywhere between 10 - 30 minutes, store will take minutes to load, weather slow to display data, news slow, photos won't login, films and tv app say cannot sign in, settings - accounts - family will show red message about family data not being upto date as unavailable right now. All the while other internet related access is absolutely fine. It's just MS account related stuff. As if the server the laptop is locked into at MS is not responding or ... Read more

Hello all

I created an mfc application which uses List Control. I want to use checkboxes in this List, I set the property like

Now I'm able to list checkboxes in list control. But the problem is when I'm clicking on checkbox the entire row is not being highlighted. I used LVS_EX_FULLROWSELECT flag but of no use.
I'm using LIST view style for this list control.

How to code so that the checkbox is checked/unchecked if I click on checkbox as well as the label associated with checkbox. Similarly background should be highlighted if the checkbox state is checked. It seems in this case both checkbox and label are acting independent of each other.

Pls help me with an example , Thanks in advance.

I have a Win2000 system. I have mistakenly set the Access Control List (ACL) to deny access to the C: drive for everyone (stupid, I know). Now I am unable to access any of the programs or the porperties to change that setting back. As a last measure, I tried to reinstall Win 2000, but for some reason the system will not let me do that.

Can someone help?? Please.

Hi All!
I'm having a problem trying to change the name of a user account in windows XP.
You can go into the control panel fine, but when you click on the
"User Accounts" in Control Panel, the page that comes up is blank.
Also there is an error that pops up saying, " The Access Control List (ACL)
Structure Is Invalid." And when you click on the "Back" or the "Forward"
Buttons, an error occurs, "g_navigator is null or not an object"
This is extremely SAD! as I do NOT want to do a reinstallation or a
paste reinstall of windows XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're on a dialup connection, the problem is usually fixed by creating a new dialup connection and deleting the old.

My Computer>Dialup Networking>Make new connection, step through the wizard to make a connection identical to the old except for what you call it. Example: If the old connection is named "Internet," name the new one "Internet2."

If that works, just delete the old connection.

If it doesn't work, start looking here.

A:The access control list (ACL) structure is invalid

ProgramData folder is a hidden folder which contains the application's settings. This folder is separated from Program Files for better security from Windows Vista onwards. AppData folder is also a hidden folder containing user specific settings. Microsoft has made these folders hidden from users on purpose.

Only Administrators have full permissions for ProgramData and AppData folders. Ordinary users will have read only permissions so that they are prevented from making damaging changes to applications.

Checkup whether your another user is an administrator.

I suggest you leave these folders from making changes, unless you know the implications.

I am using Word 2007 to edit a large document. In it, I would like the first and last elements in my bulleted lists - which are formatted with the List Paragraph style - to be well spaced from the rest of the text (what's above and below it, which is usually formatted with the Normal style). However, setting values for the Spacing Before and Spacing After parameters under List Paragraph|Modify Style|Format|Paragraph, only spaces the *first* element of the list from the preceding paragraph, and leaves the last element of the list unspaced from the following, Normal-styled paragraph. It's only if I use direct formatting on the last paragraph of the list that I get the desired result, i.e. if I select the last element of the list, go to Paragraph Settings and set the value for Spacing After parameter. As a debugging method, I created a new document and reproduced the scenario (Normal-styled paragraph, bulleted list, another Normal-styled paragraph) - everything is as it should be with the space after the list! What could be wrong with the settings in my document? Thanks for any help! PS: here's a screenshot demonstrating the situation, with paragraph marks enabled - http://www.badongo.com/pic/5386247

Hi Everyone,

I am running a Domain (using Windows Server 2008 R2), that services a variety of Windows (only) client computers. The Windows clients in question are XP Professional, Vista Business, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 8 Professional.

I would like to control access to the internet on my Domain, such that client computers are only able to visit a very select (specific) list of URLs.

Preferably I would like to be able to administer the control of URLs from the Windows Server. Furthermore I would also like to be able to allocate various clients into logical "business groups", e.g.: "Stores", "Sales Team", etc. Finally each group will be permitted access to specific URLs based on their day to day needs.

If simple administration of URLs is not possible from the Server; or if the cost of this approach is inhibitive I am open to suggests on how to limit the URL access of each client computer.

Most client computers in my network have "Administrative" privileges so control from the Server is my greatest hope. However I am able to set various client computers to "User" only privileges.

For extra background information most of my clients use a variety of browsers; therefore it is not uncommon to have Chrome, Firefox & IE all installed on a single client.

Any suggestions & / or help here will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Ok, so I noticed that for a while I haven't been here my microsoft sounds when I boot up and shut down my machine. At first I thought that I didn't have the sound files but that wasn't it.

I went into control panel, sound and audio devices and click on the sound tab. Under the program events list, I notice that many of the program events were missing such as windows start up and windows shut down. This is why I wasn't hearing any sounds when I would shut down and start my computer.

My question is, how do you get those items back on the program event list?

I use windows XP home edition computer.

Any help or suggestions? The thing is the a lot of the items in the program list are missing. So lets say I wanted to change the sound that I hear when I turn my machine on, I would go under windows and highlight windows start. But on my program list, it is not there. Hence I have no sound when my computer goes on. It is a stupid thing I realize that but I am curious how the items were lost and wondering if I can get them back. But hey, my computer is 6 years old and still runs great. I should just be happy with that.

i have the identical problem. i have discovered that if i create a new user account, all the program events are available. if i try the run command for sfc / scannow it asks me insert the windows xp install cd but won't recognize it when i do. Thanks, Jeff

I have a custom web server control. It?s like a regular drop down list but each line item is a checkbox line item. It works similar to a regular drop down list but user can select multiple line items by selecting on those checkboxes.
On IE 11.0.34 (KB3175443), I can click on the checkbox drop down to expand it. After that, if I click on the screen outside of the drop down list area, the drop down list will collapse to one line.
But on IE 11.0.50 (KB4056568), after the checkbox list is expanded, when I click on the screen outside of the drop down list area, it doesn?t collapse the drop down list. I have to click on the first line of the checkbox drop down
list to collapse it.
Does anybody know what changed in between IE 11.0.34 and IE 11.0.50 and caused this problem?
Is there a way for me to fix this issue?
Thanks a lot.

sis processor to AGP controller in device manager in yellow eclaimation mark! internet wont open when i try update drive it says no new files found!! how i fix it its xp sp2

A:Device manager list error help please!

What is the brand and model of computer or motherboard.
It could be that your AGP video graphics card has either gone bad, or has lost the drivers.
A simple test is to cold boot to SAFE MODE. The default Microsoft VGA driver is used for display at 640 x 480 resolution and in 16 colors. You must log on in all modes by a domain or by the local Security Accounts Manager, depending on which Safe Boot mode you select., by pressing the <F8> key repeatedly once per second

1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.

Then, if it works in low resolution, go back and try again using this option as a test:

? Enable VGA Mode: This option starts Windows in 640 x 480 mode by using the current video driver (not Vga.sys). This mode is useful if the display is configured for a setting that the monitor cannot display.

or try this option
? Enable Boot Logging: This option turns on logging when the computer is started with any of the Safe Boot options except Last Known Good Configuration. The Boot Logging text is recorded in the Ntbtlog.txt file in the %SystemRoot% fol... Read more

Tonight I was on my computer, and things were working fine. I shut it down and a half hour later turned it back on, and now it hangs while displaying "pci device listing", more specifically, "acpi controller". The cursor will blink about 3 times and then disappear. I went into the BIOS setup and set it to boot from my xp upgrade disc, and it accesses the disc, but I can't just boot from it, I can only enter recovery console, which takes me to a Dos prompt, or setup Windows.

I am getting the feeling thqt any further tinkering on my part could be dangerous so I'm stopping there and looking to the experts first. I can't enter safe mode as it does not give me the chance to. Any help would be appreciated. I have an asus a8n5x motherboard (on an unrelated note - the word "reliability" is incorrectly misspelled as "reliabilty" on the motherboard's splash screen).

A:xp hanging on boot/pci device list

I would disconnect, reconnect the drive...and ensure that it is properly reflected in the main BIOS screen and the boot options.

I would also run the appropriate hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic (long, not short, test) on the drive.

As for the spelling error...I think that's not unusual since many of these components are not made in countries where English is the native language...and the Internet has done it's share to promote mispellings and inappropriate language usage . I find misspellings all the time in manuals and component documentation.

Also...ensure that you don't have any USB devices (external drives) in an "on" state when trying to boot.

Windows 7 seems to be lacking the capability that used to exist in Windows XP, and I believe prior versions of Windows, that allowed the user to "Search" for "Networks".  This was quite useful partly because the nature of Windows
Networking is that when computers get turned on and off network shares naturally come and go.  Is there some way to request that Windows 7 go looking for a device that you know is there but Windows does not seem to fully recognize?

While this has generally been a persistent problem with Windows 7 it has also seemed to be intermittent in the sense that eventually these network shares are discovered and then listed.  However, I'm now having a very hard, predictable, failure with a
new NAS device I've recently added to my network.  In that, the shares on this device never get listed in the left panel of Windows Explorer under "Network".  This happens even though the device is discovered and identified in the right
panel of Windows Explorer.  Furthermore, I am able to map drive letters to the shares on this device.  Also this Windows 7 computer is finding the shares for other Windows systems, both Windows 7 and prior versions, as well as another NAS without
any difficulty.  In that, the problem is only associated with the new NAS.

What is even more mystifying is that I have another Windows 7 system running on the same network where all of the shares are listed in the left... Read more

I have read that you can add devices to this 'reset list'. But I would like to remove the ones having a problem, or all of them for that matter.

Is this possible?

On the lower right of your screen, near the time and date. There is or should be a very small icon. If you click on it, you can find out if you can remove the device. If you do not see it, some of your icons may be hidden, you can click on an icon in the same area to show those hidden icons. Cannot find? Hi, my speakers play sound but when I plug the headphones into the master speaker on the right it doesn't play audio anymore through the headphones. I tried several pair, one even brand new and no luck, however when anything is plugged in the audio stops. I tried plugging them into the back of the desktop and the front even but none of the 3.5mm audio jacks seem to want to allow Windows 7 to recognize the head phones.

My son is playing some browser game and it's driving me mad to have to listen to it in the back round and was hoping someone could help me navigate the volume control options in Windows 7 so I could fix this for myself, thank you

First thing, are you sure that the jack on your speaker system works?

Next, I would advise you reinstall your sound driver.

A new install of Windows XP Home is giving us some issues. We suspect that the root cause may be an error in the listing of hardware devices:
Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager

Under Processor, the processor appears twice, and under System Devices, Motherboard Resources also appears twice.

I have attempted to remove ALL the duplicated items and reboot the computer, but when it comes back, the devices are still listed twice.

There is no yellow question mark beside the items in question, indicating that the OS seems to think everything is OK, and if I examine the properties, everything says it is working properly.

I know this is wrong, and I suspect this is causing other errors (mostly in games), so I would like to get this corrected. However, I don't have any ideas of what else I can try.

Appreciate any and all ideas....

A:Device Manager list contains errors (XP Home)

Did you also re-install the motherboard-drivers?
They came on a CD, or if lost, you can find them on the manufacturer's website.

Trying to set up Bluetooth file transfer with my mobile. I can send files to my phone successfully, but can't send from phone->PC. I get a "Storage Issue" error on my PC, even though it will say successful transfer on my phone.

While trying to pinpoint this problem, I noticed this:

How am I supposed to check something if the service list is empty? Not sure if this is related to my issues, but its the only lead I can find.

Hi ,

I am tryng to connect my sony vaio through HDMI to sony bravia,i can see the video but the audio is being played from my laptop speakers.

I am not able to find any HDMI output in my sounds playback menu. I have checked evrything but in vain.

My OS is windows seven 64 bit.

Please help me.

I have attached the options that i could see.

A:No HDMI output in Playback device list

I think what I need to know here is your mobility graphics card information.
First we need to determine if the device supports hdmi audio and then we will more than likely need to track down a driver specifically for it.
In the case of hdmi, the video card controls the audio. So it may not even appear in the volume control the way most other audio does.
