I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

That driver is showing that its for XP SP2. There >> IS << a driver for it already on your comp
Suggest you go to device manager look for >>Problem devices<<,
or at the audio driver itself
Select update driver > browse >> let me pick >> my comp >> uncheck compatible devices >> scroll to Realtek >> select from right hand pane. (select and update)

So this all first started happening a few months ago when I was updating my audio drivers. The update was doing its thing then it crashed for some reason, and I haven't been able to update it at all since then. Oddly enough though, my audio has always worked fine. That is until today, for no reason that I can see, my audio has stopped working all of a sudden. But even though I can't hear anything either through my headphones or monitor speakers, I can see the little audio fader thing moving when I have some audio playing.

What can I do to try and fix this problem? Oh, and I should also note, the image that I posted, I get that pop-up everytime I start my computer. And the following is what it shows when you click the Details button.

Hi HS5964,

If the 'Audio' has been working fine lately, you may try performing a 'System Restore' to roll back 'corrupt software changes': System Restore
Note: Please create a 'Restore Point' before attempting the 'Restore': System Restore Point - Create

If the issue persists, you may remove 'Audio drivers' from 'Device Manager' and try installing fresh set of drivers.
- Click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in 'Search box > Tap 'Enter' > Locate and Expand 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers' category > Right click and uninstall the 'Realtek related' driver > Follow through with the uninstall > Allow 'Windows' to restart > 'Windows' will install updates for the 'Realtek Audio' (You may also install drivers from the manufacturer website: Realtek) > Recheck the results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Hey, I've had no problems installing games in the past, in fact I installed Modern Warfare 2 just the other day, but ive recently purchased borderlands and an old copy of civilizations IV, and I cant get either game to install. As soon as I attempt to start the install, I get " error code -5006 : 0x8000ffff" It tells me that I need to close other applications but Ive obviously tried closing everything but the essential windows applications, and still no effect. Ive tried renaming installshield to installshieldOLD, and that didn't work. I'm relatively inexperienced with computers so this is a little beyond my experience. I've googled and googled and come up with nothing. Please help!!! My motherboard is ASUS P8P67-M Pro. The manufacturer doesn't mention any drivers for Windows 10 x64 on their website as you can see here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8P67M_PRO/HelpDesk_Download/ I tried to use Windows 8.1 x64 drivers, Windows 8 x64 drivers and Windows 7 x64 drivers. None of them worked. I even tried to download drivers directly from Realtek website, it didn't work as well. I am pretty sure the drivers should be fine and work, but I think there is a problem with my operating system. I remember in the past I tried to install printer drivers and I had issues as well (while it worked fine on another PC, only this PC had issues installing the driver) and I also have problem installing the new feature update (Windows 1703), it always ends up with an error, so I can't update to this version as well.
I don't know what to do and I was thinking about re-installing windows, but it is very time consuming for me and I prefer a short solution to resolve this.
Is there any chance someone has any idea how to resolve this problem?
Thank you

It's been a year since I migrated from Windows XP to Windows 7 which I downloaded Realtek HD Audio Manager R2.70 and audio has been working fine except the only issue it didn't come with 'Stereo Mix' preventing capability to record sound direct from the soundcard. It took me 14 months to restore Stereo Mix as each time I was told to update audio drivers I would update HD Audio Manager so what is the difference between these two Realtek ?

I installed Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.72 last night and it restored Stereo Mix which now enables me to record system sound whilst using screen recorders.

Thanks

Realtek HD Audio Manager is a software driver used on Windows computers. It handles recording and playback of audio programs. It is required for many audio programs to operate.

While Realtek HD Audio Drivers is a tool that allows you to listen to audio in HD on your PC.

Stereo Mix is used to transfer audio that the PC is playing to recording software such as Audacity, so that you can record what you?re hearing.

When one upgrade their OS like in your case from XP to Win7 with the same motherboard and sound card it is always advised & recommended to download the latest soundcard driver, because the only thing that had changed was the operating system.

The advice is not to go to windows for it, but to go to the motherboard manufacturer, because it would be specialised for the system rather than ... Read more

I installed the Realtek HD audio driver from the ASUS download site (P8Z68-V Pro MB) and all was well until I installed an MSI 560TI video card and let it install the Nvidia HD Audio drivers. The problem I have been chasing ever since was the Realtek HD Audio Manager popping up after the system exited extended sleep state (overnight). After much trial and tribulation and several Google Searches I concluded that the Realtek/ASUS HD Audio driver was conflicting with the Nvidia driver(s).

I did what suggested on one of the sites and that was to delete the Realtek HD Audio drivers and just let W7 install the default Microsoft drivers. Problem gone! Now I am curious, what did I give up and if I install the latest Realtek driver for W7 64-bit (v267) from the Realtek site will the Nvidia conflict return?

A:ASUS/Realtek, Latest Realtek versus default W7 Audio driver

Generally the Microsoft installed HD Audio Codec does not have all the features the motherboard vendor's sound drivers do. In most cases the actual driver is preferred and should be installed instead of the generic HD Audio Code drivers.

The NVIDIA driver is for the Video and the build in audio for HDMI audio. It should not be interferring with the PC's sound and in this case Realtek. I would uninstall the Microsoft drivers and reinstall the RealTek and see if you still have the problem. Generally a driver causes problems when exiting from sleep mode. Actually on "extended" sleep mode of overnight its really better to just shut down the system and then reboot in the morning. If you want it to be operational when you wake up, the BIOS should have an option for auto power on at whatever time you set.

The front microphone inputs did not work so I downlaed the Realtek HD Audio Drivers (recently updated) from the realtek site. The inputs now work and I can record from the microphone through the Sound Recorder app in Accessories but can not hear the microphone through the speakers while I am recording. After searching the web I noticed a lot of chatter about setting things up in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. This app does not show up in my control panel. Does anyone know where I can get it (if I really need it). The Realtek site only has the driver download (not the manager). Am I missing something, am I confused, or both?

Very strange.  My P70 was purchased in 2016 with Win7 Pro pre-installed (because that's what I wanted).  In 2018 I installed Win10 in a second partition, in order to try it out and learn about it.  Earlier this year I made Win10 my default operating Windows, but kept the Win7 partition.  This past week I finally deleted the Win7 partition and re-installed Win10 (1909) from scratch in this now available space, just to "clean house" now that I've had almost two years of experience and learning about Win10.  My original Win10 partition was installed with 1511, and over the years came through major upgrades 1709, 1803, 1809, 1903 and just recently 1909. That's why I decided to celebrate the demise of Win7 with a clean start using a new Win10 1909 installer.

Anyway, everything is fine with the resulting Win10.  Except that today I noticed I was missing the Dolby Audio X2 app I was quite sure I had, for sure in my now deleted Lenovo factory pre-installed Win7, and perhaps in the Win10 I installed in 2018 (but I can't be absolutely sure).  But for sure it was not there earlier today when I started looking into this.  Strangely, in Sound there is a Dolby tab which indicates that Dolby Audio is ON (and can be toggled OFF), so the Realtek driver supporting Dolby Audio sound appears installed properly. But the separate Dolby Audio app (which provides five EQ preset choices as well as a manual cusomizable 20-band graphic EQ) is not installed... Read more

I recently upgraded my PC (Foxconn motherboard) to Windows 8 and downloaded what I understand to be the latest Realtek high definition audio driver ie 6.0.1.6662. The driver happily installed but at the moment is a bit reluctant to make an appearance among devices listed in the Device Manager. That's the status quo right now. No matter what I try (uninstalling, re-installing, uninstalling the four instances of Microsoft HD audio device listed), the Realtek driver does not get a mention and I don't have to tell you that my external speakers are deathly silent! USB headphones work fine though.

Just to make things interesting, yesterday (please don't ask me how, as far as I know I'm doing the same things now as I did then!), the driver would intermittently be recognised as a device and the external speakers would spring to life. But.....whenever I rebooted my PC, the Realtek device would disappear again and the speakers would be dead. It was almost as though the Microsoft audio devices were elbowing the Realtek driver out of the way when the PC was rebooted. Strange.

Has anybody else had a similar experience or can anybody suggest a solution.

Thanks.

A:Realtek Audio installation issues

Try uninstalling all listed Audio devices in the Device Manager and then restart the PC and see if Windows detects the RealTek.

Generally, the vendor audio drivers are the preferred. Non-vendor drivers can either not work or not work correctly. If there are no Vendor supplied Vista/Win7 driver then obviously you have try to find whatever will work.

Is this a "retail" foxconn motherboard or is it a foxconn motherbord in a "name" PC (e.g. Dell). If its in a name PC such as a Dell (Dell uses a lot of Foxconn motherboards) then the vendor's downloads for the specific model number should be checked for a driver.

Before you install any device drivers for that computer, you should first install the chipset driver for it.

The chipset driver allows the computer to detect and properly configure its devices.

After installing W8 on a Toshiba satellite laptop, all went well except Realtek AC97 won't install. Re-installing the driver didn't work. Windows reveals a code 10 and mentions the driver did not install correctly. Naturally there are no sound devices present with this occurrence. Plugging in an external USB sound device (creative sound blaster) works perfectly, just not as convenient as having the internal Realtek AC97 sound device working. BTW, this is not an HD sound driver, it's the regular Realtek driver. Tried a driver download from three additional sources w/o success.

After installing W8 on a Toshiba satellite laptop, all went well except Realtek AC97 won't install. Re-installing the driver didn't work. Windows reveals a code 10 and mentions the driver did not install correctly. Naturally there are no sound devices present with this occurrence. I just installed a new hard driver in a HP 734g computer that had a bad drive. I've installed a clean copy of Windows XP Pro an installed all the necessary drivers EXCEPT the Multimedia Audio Controller. Going to HP's site, it would appear to be Realtek AC'97 but no matter which version of the driver I get for it, about half way thru the installation the entire computer crashes and restarts. I have been working on this for HOURS an it's making me insane. I have to return the computer tomorrow and I'm at a loss for what to do.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Thanks!

The new audio drivers aren't the same as the old ones. Sadly, you did lose quite a bit of customizability (and in my case, my microphone went from being loud and adjustable to really, really quiet).

Basically I've uninstalled the above.... I didn't realise I needed it in order to be able to play my Windows Media Player and iTunes files
I've gone to their website and tried to download it/install it again, but its not having any of it and I just can't seem to work out what's wrong! I've gone to the 'Restore' section under 'Accessories' in my control panel (by advice given on a website), but it comes up saying it's unable to.

I've been trying to fathom out the problem for near enough 3 hours now....and I really don't know where to go from here.

Thanks in advance.

Over a year ago I got a Sony Vaio, model VGN-C140G, originally ran xp mce. 5 or 6 months in, it crashed and I ended up reformatting and installed xp pro sp2 2600....I've got mostly everything working, but am having a difficult time with audio.

I've (numerous times) installed and reinstalled the drivers from Sony's website, Realtek's website...After intense googling I found that I needed to install an ms hotfix before installing my sound card, so I did that, and continued trying to install various versions of RealTek's hd audio device driver (different forums seemed to recommend different versions to different users, and said that they are all apparently "the one for xp pro")....anyway the versions I've tried are the installation files: WDM_180, 182 and 187.

If anyone has any suggestions for me, I'd really appreciate it. It seems that other people have had this problem, after an upgrade, specifically when switching to Vista, but I'm still in xp...and what works for one person isn't working for everyone else (especially me!) so...

Thanks.

What would be a better option for a Sound Driver? I used to have "Realtek High Definition Audio Codec" when I used Windows 7, but a few months ago I installed Windows 8.1 and just kept the generic "AMD High Definition Audio Device". Haven't really noticed that much of a difference. That's why I want your guy's opinion based on AMD vs. Realtek - (Quality, Performance, etc.)

Thanks!

A:Realtek or AMD Audio Driver

Realtek is for the onboard high definition audio codec built onto the motherboard. It is what you use when simply using a desktop or laptop.

AMD is the audio driver for HDMI, for when you have a tv attached to the computer or desktop. This driver is installed along with the video driver itself.

You should download/install the latest Realtek HD driver from their site.

I've recently noticed that my audio drivers are not functioning as they used to before and cause my computer to restart by changing the volume control.
I'm using an Acer Veriton 1000, recently formatted and updated with recent drivers and did not have a problem then. I'm using the HIgh Definition Audio Driver Package - KB88811 and Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers (as per add/remove program tool).
I'm able to open the master volume control, but when i try to change the volume level the computer automatically switches off and restarts. After I log in i get the windows prompt 'windows has encountered a problem' and when i send the error report my internet browser opens to tell me that the cause was a blue screen error though it wasn't an actual blue screen error. I have uninstalled most of the recent programs (including windows XP SP3) yet i still get this problem.
Note: I use Realtek AC'97 Audio interface as well

For any more system information required for anyone to help me,please feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance!

I Hope someone can help me with this.
Previously, I had the Realtek HD Audio Driver package installed along with Nvidia on my win xp system. Worked like a charm. Could go into NVIDIA Control panel and there I had the options "Realtek" for playing sound through my computer, or Panasonic (Nvidia HDMI connection to my TV. Now I have windows 8 God help me! "Talk about "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"

In the Nvidia Control Panel Audio Setup, now the only two options offered in the sound setup window are:
DVI: "No audio capable display available" (Greyed out! )
HDMI: Panasonic TV
It also shows sound readings for Panasonic (TV), Speakers, Earphones and Microphone. But if I try to switch from TV to Speakers (computer) it either doesn't make the switch and I lose the tv sound and end up with no sound reading in any category. I eventually get the tv sound back by repeating the setup process several times. I am hoping that installing the Realtek driver will make switching as simple as it was and that maybe not having it installed is the problem.

Here is the problem: Win 8 32 Bit keeps interrupting my attempts to install it with error message: Install Realtek HD Audio Failure Error code"-0001. Can't find any info on that one related to win 8 although one does support win 8, searching Bing and Google. But I did find mentions of "the Microsoft UAA driver" being the cause of HD audio software installation problems. If ... Read more

In the past week I've been having issues with my speakers. For some reason they do not seem to detect my audio drivers. My little speaker icon displays "no audio output device is installed". I've tried many things, but they all seem to fail. I've tried restarting my computer, reformatting my computer, updating my audio driver, uninstalling and reinstalling my audio driver, downloading the newest update from my computer manufacturer's website, downloading the drivers directly from the Realtek website. For a while, downloading the drivers from the realtek website worked, but my computer would crash and then the sound would fail again. I've tried reinstalling the realtek hd audio driver through the device manager, but it gives me an error and says it can't install. I'm not sure what to do anymore, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I've read all the threads here that delas with Realtek audio problems, but none of them seem to solve my problem.

So here we go: None of the drivers on Realteks site works. When I download and install them I just get a overcrossed speaker symbol. It says: No audio device installed. But in the control panel it says it is installed and working correctly. And yes, I have uninstalled any previous drivers and restarted my computer. However, if I use the drivers on the CD that came with my motherboard, I can get the audio to work. But when I plug something in on the front, like headphones for example, a popup says something like: This driver is not designed for Windows Vista, please visit Realtek to install the correct driver.

Also, there is also a problem with the driver on the CD. With it installed, the audio works only 2 times out of 3 when I boot my computer. Extremely annoying.

Please help!

Yep even i had this Problem with my onboard soundcard(Soundmax).
I kept trying different drivers to get my Front Panel Audio(FPA) to work(around 3-4 before one finally worked).

I suggest you stick to your CD Drivers for now and wait for New drivers or some workaround to be released.

I'm running Windows XP SP2. I had absolutely no problems installing the audio driver from the disc that came with my motherboard the first time around. Unfortunately, I had to reformat and reinstall Windows because my harddrive was being recognized as disk "i" instead of "c" (causing alot of problems for me installing software). So now that problem has been solved, but I can't get the Realtek audio driver installed. A message pops up each time I try to install it which says: "Install Realtek HD audio driver failure". Could it be because I also installed "uaa bus driver - version 5.10.0.5010? I don't think that one was meant to be used with Windows XP SP2 (it's not listed as being one of the OS's that supports this driver). Of course, now I have no idea how to get rid of it, and a balloon pops up from the taskbar each time I turn on my computer saying "new hardware installed". I try to install it using the wizard, but it won't install. What's gone wrong?

Hi everyone!

I try to give as much detail of this problem as I can think of right now:
I just freshly reformated my C: drive, and when I went to reconfigure my drivers, the sound driver can't seem to work properly.
The computer beeps whenever it should give the standard windows ding from the speekers, the device manager shows a yellow exclamation mark (!) at my sound driver, which is a Realtek AC'97 Audio driver, and when I try to refresh or dowload another one, it says: Device cannot be activated (Code :10). I've downloaded the latest version from Realtek's page, did not fix it. It gives me a warning when I try to refresh it though, that 'This device did not pass the Windows Logo test', saying it's not compatible with XP. Which is funny, since before the reformat, I've been using it for a year without any problems. My Audio Card is an Intel 82801GB ICH7 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1], according to Everest. I've also checked the audio support in BIOS, it's enabled. In the Control Panel->Sound & Audio Devices panel everything is grayed out, every checkbox and every combobox on all tabs.

Can someone help me with this problem? I'm in a serious need of music right now...

When downloading drivers, it's best to download them from the computer manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer
From the number you gave, I believe it's onboard sound not a sound card
