A directory to be excluded from System .wci catalog

Q: A directory to be excluded from System .wci catalog

Hi, there!
I was referred to this forum because of the following:
A little while ago, when I was troubleshooting some problems with one of my PCs, I had to delete System .wci catalog. As it turned out (after I figured it out what was causing the problem), the deletion of that catalog was not necessary. Now, I have already
recreated the catalog by looking at my other PCs.
And the following are directories for the same System .wci catalog that I am trying to exclude:
C:\Documents and Settings\*\Application Data\*
C:\Documents and Settings\*\Local Settings\*

I know a star * means 'all'.
Then, first * in the first directory means what - 'All Users'?
Then, what is the second *? Does it mean I need to simply highlight the whole Application Data directory?
And what do *'s mean in C:\Documents and Settings\*\Local Settings\* ?
Are they supposed to mean my First_Name Last_Name (if I am the only one user)? Because Local Settings directory is only under my First_Name Last_Name. And then again, what is the meaning of the next *, and where is it?
I hope someone clarifies these questions for me.
Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running windows XP Pro and work with multi media applications, during playback of these files or sometimes in windows media player (and at times for know reason at all) my system will just shut down - no warning at all. The applications are not particulary using up much memory in which case I have more than enough to support. Upon starting up again this is the error message that is showing up in the event viewer (Application)

3 inconsistencies were detected in property store during recovery of c:\system volume information\catalog.wci .

In the ErrrorContent index on c:\system volume information\catalog.wci is corrupt. Please shutdown and restart the Indexing Service (cisvc). It also states after that -

Ci Cleaning up corrupt content index metadata on C:\system volume information\catalog.wci. Index will be automatically restored by refiltering all documents. This sounds like it should help to clear the problem however, tis not the case.

This has been happening off and on for a while now could someone please help me as I would dearly like to get back to business without being shut down half way through and without losing work!
I have gone through the virus, spybot, adware sequence to ensure that it is not related, and seem to be fine from that point of view at least.
Thank you in advance

A:System shutting down - system volume catalog error

I am having the exact same issue and am running XP Server. It has been shutting down every night on it own and has several errors that I think may be the culprit. I get the exact indexing error as you do and also: The Security System could not establish a secured connection withthe server NDS/prisoner.iana.org. No authentication protocol was available. We have had this system running since January, but this just becoming an issue.

We have Symantec Antivirus that the Server pushes out to other PC's but not a firewall, except for our Router.

Any ideas.

Since there is no tag for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3.

AX 2012 R3 environment.

This is related to Vendor Catalog.(Procurement and

catalog template) - Application Integration Framework (Inbound).

I want to add some more fields to the existing XSD file template and then I have
to generate the CMR template file.

So how can I change the vendor catalog and to the vendor catalog template
generator (the functionality that generates the XSD file for the import, see
Procurement and sourcing/Common/Catalogs/Vendor catalogs/Related
information/Generate catalog template)

My main goal from this change is to add some more fields to the vendor catalog
and to the vendor catalog template generator, so that I should be able to import
the new fields along with the existing (standard) vendor catalog fields and along
with that while importing also I have to some more validations and my
customized code, then the records have to be inserted/updated into AX.

What is the exact path to change or add or remove the fields in the existing XSD
file and accordingly XML file. I tried to generate the XML file from XSD using
Visual Studio, but i am getting the error as XXX namespace was not resolved.

Ive set up some directories I do not want MSE to ever scan or monitor. Yet, when I run a full scan the directories are still being scanned???

WHY?! (This is the first scan Ive ever done) maybe MSE wont ignore the excluded directories on the very first scan?

A:MSE is still Scanning Excluded Directories...

It's my understanding that the very first scan includes everything so as to create a baseline of sorts. The logic being if something is on the hard drive let's make sure it's not infected. Once everything has been scanned the excluded files should be ignored. I'd suggest letting the initial scan run its course and then run a second scan to see if it excludes those files. If it doesn't, post back and we'll try to figure things out.

I am running windows XP Pro on a 32 bit system and I have Intel ProSet/Wireless connection utility that connects me to my home network.
I am not sure if i have a virus but here is my problem when I click on the "Fan" Icon on my tool bar and right click and go to configure network I get the usual screen, I go through the set up and I have WEP2 personal as my firewall setting, I enter the password and click ok etc.

I then get the screen where you select available networks, I see my home network but it always has a "Excluded" mark on it, I right click on it and select remove from excluded list but nothing happens. I went to manage profiles and selected the network and then to properties than advanced, the setting there is on auto connect. I selected application auto launch and put a check mark in enable application auto launch, but in the field below there is no path ??

I also went to profiles then manage exclusions I then highlighted the network and click on "remove" the screen flashes but the exclude setting remains, I have removed and made a new profile several times but every new network has the excluded icon on it. Anyone out there know what is going on. Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

I hope somebody understands more than I do. I used Intel Proset for years until the adapter or motherboard developed problems, so I'm kinda familiar with that, but the rest of your post lost me completely. Maybe attaching some appropriate screen shots would help.

What toolbar? What "Fan" icon, and what does it have to do with networking? What firewall are you talking about? What's this "WEP2 personal firewall setting"? When I see something like "WEP2" I wonder if somebody is actually talking about WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption.

Where are you defining/seeing these profiles? Could maybe be in Intel Proset, which I'm sure has changed in the last several years, but as I said I'm really lost.

First post.

I always used to be able to exclude certain folders from indexing but for some unknown reason now I can't.

I go to 'modify' in indexing options, deselect the folder(s) that I want to exclude, and they appear in the 'excluded' column, same as before. I click on 'advanced' and then 'rebuild index' and then after it starts to rebuild, the excluded folder name immediately disappears from the 'excluded' folder column, and is then indexed.

Any idea from anyone as to how to resolve this enormously appreciated.

the samsung HDD-Util (HUTIL) has found two LBA adresses defective in the surface test.
Is there any possibility to exclude the defective areas in the FAT (ok, with some small data loss of course) to reestablish a logic, error free FAT-Structure on the NTFS Disk??

The Background:
The drive works and boots (XP) but when starting a BACKUP (thats life) with True Image I get a bluescreen error at a certain point and Chkdsk hangs after step 3.

So I'm searching for a solution like described above: Accept some data losing to make it possible for the Image Software to work....

The Samsung utility itself should offer you the possibility to relocate the bad sectors.

Plain old Windows chkdsk will do what you want too. Just tell it to perform a surface scan.

When restore file from Quarantine, most AVs add object to Exclusion list - so it is not re-detected by real-time protection\scan engine.

Have to find file Exclusion list and delete file's entry... then Panda should re-detect.

I would like to calculate the number of days between two dates, but exclude weekends and holidays (holidays are also location specific).
The way I imagine doing that is this (I don't know if this is a way possible).

1. Use the Datediff function to calculate the difference
2. Create a function to see if there are weekends in between the dates, if there is, subtract two days
3. Create a function to check how many days of holiday (from a separate table which has location and date info) are between the two dates (I think only Christmas would be 2, otherwise 1 day), then minus those too.

Any idea is greatly appreciated.

A:Acess - days between two dates weekends and holidays excluded

First trial, but not really working
.RunSQL ("UPDATE Table SET DifferenceDays = DateDiff("d","LastDate","FirstDate") 'Calculate days of difference
.RunSQL ("Update Table INNER JOIN Holiday ON Table.Location = Holiday.Location SET DifferenceDays = DifferenceDays - 1 WHERE Table.FirstDate < Holiday.Date AND Table.LastDate > Holiday.Date ' minus 1 day if there is holiday between ' Similar code for weekends

If I ever get in, can I delete some restore points I'd rather not keep around? i wish we could choose a point and go with it. Unfortunately with system restore it's all or nothin'. Either you have the points you have...sometimes dating back 90 days or so, or you disable it, re-enable it and thats your new point. You can limit the amount of disk space that system restore can use, however. By cutting it back to 50MBs, for instance, you force it to overwrite existing files when it reaches the maximum allowed space. I'd much rather save a good point that occupies 5 MB's of space using the file compression it does, but who asked me, huh?As for taking a look at whats there, have you ever tried this?Start-->run-->type cmd-->opens command prompt window. type c:\dir.txt tap the enter key. choose File-->select save to: My documents-->rename it "the date you did it" and read about files on your C drive. About 3 weeks ago, I was in the middle of transferring a large number of files via USB with a program called MP3 Library when the system locked up. At the time I was running Win98SE with a 160GB HD with 8 partitions. When I rebooted, the C: drive directory was trashed & unbootable. I checked the drive in another machine to recover what I could, but eventually gave up on reinstalling as it was too far gone. In the process of transferring the drive from from a Win2000 machine and back to the original machine, two other partitions also suffered corruption on several occasions. I eventually wiped the C: drive, formatted with NTFS and installed win2000SP3. The system crashed on a reboot after I had just finished all of the critical update downloads, again with a completely trashed C: drive! I have since reinstalled 3 times, including 7-8GB of other software. At random times I find errors on two other partitions after a reboot. I now have a tape backup of the current C: drive image in case it happens again. The HD is only 6months old and has no bad sectors. I use Kaspersky AntiVirus and AntiHacker which are both updated daily. The system has now been running for two whole days without a problem, but I still don't know the cause. I removed mulitple virus' from my son's computer. Had to rename Avira and Anti Malware files to load them and finally got them to work in Safe mode. After that, computer booted okay and when I reactivated the radio for the wireless, it was okay but Windows firewall was screwed up. In trying to reset that, computer would not boot, even in Safe mode. Starts running the configuration and stops. Regualr boot goes blank within seconds. I have operating disk and trying to repair. The system file can't be located, even in the \windows\repair directory. Other key file are there: software, sam, security, default. Hardware seems okay. Ran diagnostics (Express test and everything checked out okay). Don't want to do a reformat and lose the info on the hard drive. Suggestions?

A:can't locate system file in repair directory

That is the error message I get when I try to click my quick links on the taskbar, or any other program I want to run, launch, install, or use.

I have been dealing with this for days now. I have searched the net, and MS for any idea on how to resolve this. I finally decided to just reinstall XP Pro as a repair over the existing copy that is bad.

That is where I finally found the problem, but I have no idea how to fix this.

I have three hard drives on my computer. My boot drive has two partitions. My boot drive is J:\

When I went to reinstall Windows, it showed G:\ as the volume to install windows in as the repair.

I don't have a G:\ for any of my drives. I hit esc and went to select another location, hoping to find J:\

It is not there. I think this would explain the message since all my programs are installed on J:\

Is there a way to change this back to the way it was?

I had the mirar toolbar infection a few days ago. And I used the Symatec fix instructions for it, and it is gone. This all happened after.

Any help would be wonderful. I can't install any new programs or launch any thing.

I can't use Windows Update, because it won't let me resolve the Active X problems or java errors.

I don't see G:\ in the disk management either.

I also can not access regedit or msconfig or anything else. CMD prompt is not available either.

I am able to trick some files into installing or access programs I want to use by select... Read more

Who ever logs into the system gets the WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder displayed.

This happens on 2 machines. One NT and one WINDOWS 2000.

Setting is not in the "startup" or in the "run" or "run once" sub keys

I know this problem is something others have experienced. Can any one tell me where to check for this system folder opening at startup.

ASAP please.

A:Windows system directory folder opens each time with startup

Can you post a startup log from HijackThis?

There must be something running somewhere. Perhaps in your msconfig

I have searched this forum for a solution to this problem. Did not find a workable solution. Using Win 7 Home Premium , Intel Pentium Dual-Core , 6134 Megabytes Memory and attached external Western Digital My Book drive.

Attached is the error dialog box.

I have tried several things with no success.
Ran System Restore in Safe Mode.. failed to extract etc.
Ran sfc /scannow at C: prompt... no errors
Ran vssadmin list writers at C: prompt...all 11 writers no errors
Ran Event Viewer found these errors under Windows Applications: 33, 8206 and 1000
Ran HD Tune scan no errors
Ran Avast Pro scan no viruses
Defraged C: drive (this was not really necessary)

This appears to be an old and recurring problem. I had the same problem over a year ago and was forced to do a clean reinstall and do not want to do that again if I can avoiid it.
Hope you can help wwith sime suggestions.

I installed ATA in my environment yesterday and the server alerted me to my AADSync server.  I allowed the activity, but I'm wondering if it is best practice to install the (Lightweight) Gateway on the AADSync server?
AADSync server is running Windows 2008 R2 without any roles installed.  Microsoft Azure AD Connect is the only service running on this server.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and have a question. I recently had to set my system back to factory settings. Now when I go to a new web site using Firefox I get the following error message...
"Javascript task directory does not exist. Please change to home directory."
I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate version, 32-bit with both Service pack 1 and 2 installed. I have no idea of how to correct this problem and I know everyone on this forum are brilliant! So any help would really be appreciated.

A:Javascript task directory does not exist. Please change to home directory.

Have you checked to see if you have Java installed: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

I have a 10 files that have all been categorised into about 40 folders. These files have been damaged.
I have a backup of all these files, but they are not categorised and sit in a single directory.

Does anyone know of an easy technique to batch replace the damaged files with the originals?

Cannot find any apps to do such a task.

I need some help in figuring out how to copy a whole bunch of files from a directory tree to a single directory. I looked at all the xcopy switches, but none of them look like they will do what I want it to do. If I use the /S switch, it will keep the directory structure. Any ideas?

Hi there.. is there someone that could help me out? I've searched and searched but have not found a satisfying error free answer yet..: (well, 2 questions actually...)
I want to move the entire User Folder in my Vista OS in a different alltogether hard drive.
instead of c:\users\myusername...I want something like f:\my_folder_users\myusername
This would also apply to os folders such as AppData, and default location of file allocation, ie Microsoft or Adobe.
I am aware that you can move specific user folders but not the entire tree... Any help with that?

I want to move the default target installation directory for any new application... I mean you can do it the manual way but some of the programs may not allow this, or even addons...

Any help greatly appreciated...

A:Moving the User directory & default installation directory

I'm not answering this with any great confidence that you are not going to get into trouble here, but the default locations for the "current user" -- what you are talking about in item 1 -- are covered in this registry location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

You might find some more information here:

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a way to get setup programs to automatically offer that.

I'm trying to delete a subfolder from my server via FTP, when I receive the error message:

550: cannot remove directory, directory not empty.

Any suggestions on how to delete?

A:~FTP error - 550: cannot remove directory, directory not empty.

The server seems to be saying you do not have permission to delete a subfolder that still has something in it. Have you made sure that the subfolder you are trying to delete is completely empty, including any hidden files? Some FTP client programs have a user selectable option to delete non-empty subfolders.

So i have 3 files i cannot delete after uninstalling a game. I also cannot rename the folder they are in without windows explorer not responding and i have to restart explorer.

I did take ownership method but that froze up to. I went into safe mode, and tried it that way - also didn't delete, it equally froze up.

I have attached an image of the delete attempt - it just gets stuck like that.

I'm out of options - please advise on what i should do ?

Following the directions outlined in Change Directory in Command Prompt including enabling command extensions outlined in Command Line does not permit the CD command to change the directory focus to a directory with a space in its name. I am trying to set the active directory prompt to C:\Users\Owner\My Documents. I can get to C:\Users\Owner but with command extensions enabled in administrator mode (CMD E:ON) the CD command will not accept My Documents as a valid directory name within Owner. The error I get is "The system cannot find the path specified." My goal is to get a directory tree (as a file) of the directories and files in My Documents with the DIR command when in that directory. The complete DOS line for that command would read C:\Users\Owner\My Documents>DIR /o:n /s > DirTreeList.txt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Cannot change directory (CD) to a directory with space in the name

Welcome to Seven Forums utnatw7f387. I'm far from an expert, but will throw out something simple until the smart people see this. have you tried

C:\Users\Owner\My\ Documents>DIR /o:n /s > DirTreeList.txt

A:Active Directory to Company Directory

How often will you update this?

If its a one time deal, excel, Dsquery/ dsget and a little vbs/ JS can get you done... querying the LDAP is not too hard to put into a txt file or xls. Cleaning it up can be depending on how much you want to put into the development.
