Can't type in search or log in fields in IE

Q: Can't type in search or log in fields in IE

One of our office computers won't allow the user to type in the search fields or log in fields within IE on any website. Can't search on Google, Yahoo, can't log in on hotmail or other online applications that we use at work. In addition to this issue; when I open Control Panel I get a script error, the icons on Add/Remove Programs are very small with no description of what the icons represent and if I try to udate Windows it tells me that it needs to install addiotional files to update the system but it gets locked into a loop where it installs then tells me that it needs to install the same files. I can't run a Panda scan because it asks for my e-mail address and I can't type into the field. When trying to run a Kaspersky online scan it won't update the new virus definitions which is an automatic action. When I try to run HouseCall it tells me that there is another HouseCall running and closes the prgram. There is no indication in Task Manager of two HouseCalls running. Ewido found some problems corrected them but didn't fix my problem. Replaced the mouse and did a restart so those won't work. The computer was running fine one evening and when we came in the next day it was acting this way.

AVG, AdAware run clean. I downloaded a trail Kaspersky Security program and it ran clean as well. Suggestions are welcomed.

Preferred Solution: Can't type in search or log in fields in IE

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Your log looks okay. Have you considered re-installing IE?

One of our office computers won't allow the user to type into a search or log in field in IE. The mouse is not the issue, we changed it out, because we can click on links and click into the address bar. Ran AVG as well as AdAware both clean. When I tried to run HouseCall it tells me there is already a HouseCall running and shuts down. I can't run Panda because it asks for my e-mail address and I can't type into the field.

Suggestions?????

i have created a form in word, adn i want it to be read only for most of the form. However, i do want certain fields to allow users to type in. Is there any way that i can easily do this. i know that this may seem kind of vague, let me know if you need any other info.

A:MS Word; only type in certain fields

Too bad there's not a strikethrough text format. Anyway, ignore the stuff in red.

This is a common question that has no easy answer. There is no way to permanently lock the text of a document while leaving the fields open. There are some workarounds, such as using a background graphic instead of body text.

I don't know what I was thinking about when I wrote that, but it wasn't forms. It might have been converting a PDF document to a protected Word form. Another of Dreamboat's articles.
[/edit]

If you search the forums for something like Word form protect text, you might get some hits. The question gets worded differently from time to time, so play around with the search criteria until you get a thread that works for you.

Here are a couple of similar threads (searching word form lock text):

And here's a link with some general info. Thanks to Dreamboat for that.

Hi there i have a bit of a PC issue that i am looking into.

When using internet explorer and a site for example ebay. It will only let me populate the Username Field, But when i try enter the password the field doesn't allow any data to be entered. This happens for other programs outwith Internet Explorer too.

The OS is Windows XP

What would cause this to happen?

Thanks

A:Unable to Type in some fields

Press Tab instead of enter when you want to move to a password or other field in a form. Pressing enter pretty much means that all fields are complete (like pressing "Send" or "Submit" yourself).

Using Windows 7 I suddenly can't type in fields of secure documents (opened with https). I have tried documents such as for paying bills and making reports, using IE, Firefox, and Chrome. Applies to data entry fields or radio buttons. Data fields accept the click to select the field, but do not respond to data typed on the keyboard.

I have searched the web for "can't type in fields of secure documents". I get lots of hits, but none are appropriate and few have solutions anyway.

Hello Group,

Suddenly I am unable to type into form fields.

I have to trick it by writing the text in an e-mail, copying that, then right-click and paste into the form field - even to login here I had to do that - nothing happens when I try to type into the field.

Environment: Windows 7 Home Premium

Hope someone can help. Thanks for looking in.

A:Suddenly can't type into form fields

Problem partially solved. Still have no clue as to why I could not type into form fields, even logons, google ... but a simple re-boot and now I can enter text into form fields. However, sporadically I lose control of positioning - sometimes the arrows stop working, and sometimes I cannot change position in the form by moving the cursor. What is going on?
Thanks for looking in. seekinganswers

I'm not sure what to do here...

After downloading Explorer 8 (and updating Windows) I am unable to type in any field below the top pane. (I can type text just fine in my google search field and the url field)

I un-installed Explorer 8 (which re-installed Explorer 7) with no improvement.

I noticed that after completing the Windows update (I have Service Pack 3) my Anti Virus (Zone Alarm) had been blown away. I had to re-install it. I've since learned that I should disable anti-virus software prior to doing Windows updates.

Is this a virus?

Thanks.

I am running Vista Premium SP1 on a Dell Inspiron E1505. I have a new problem where I can not enter any text in any browser field, IE or FireFox. The text field appears but I can not click on the field and enter text. I have tracked the problem to a corrupt or imcompatible dll called mshtmled.dll located in c:\windows\system32 folder.

How do I extract and install this dll with any of it's related dll's in Vista?

Hello, I use online accounting software (KashFlow) and part of entering invoices involves clicking into a date input field.  It is one of those where a little calendar shows when you click into the field.  You can also manually type a date into this field too. However. On my brand new Yoga 920 using Chrome and Firefox the date input fields are greyed out and a red 'no access' icon shows when you hover over them.  But you can still click it and the calendar pops up as normal.  The only difference is you can NOT type into them anymore. When the source for the page is viewed it looks like the fields have been designated 'readonly'. There is no such problem on any other computer I own, even when using Chrome or Firefox.  The date fields work perfectly well on these other computers - even on a Sony Xperia tablet I own. The only browser that works properly on my Yoga is Edge.  The date fields work as they should.  It's just Chrome (my main browser) and Firefox where they don't work. This seems like a Lenovo-based problem.  A little Google has revealed a couple of similar problems with other Lenovo users. Does anyone have any clue on how to fix this?  This is utterly bizarre behaviour and it's preventing me from working properly. I have attached a photo showing the problem when using Chrome.  These fields should never be greyed out. Thanks,Matt

Hello,

My 8 year old son decided to download some Malware onto my computer while I was deployed the last few months.  Anyway Im running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and am having issues entering text into IE 11.  I believe the issue stems from PUP.Optional.MindSpark.

Im pretty sure I removed MindSpark completely by using MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and CCleaner to get rid of it.  I also have McAfee AntiVirus which didnt catch Mindspark.

So the problem now and when the PUP was on my computer is that I cannot enter text into text fields on IE 11.  Right now Im using Google Chrome and am having no issues with it, but I would like to get the IE 11 problem fixed.  Also as a note if I run IE 11 as an administrator it acts normal, but as soon as I close the browser and reopen it, it stops working again.  A couple of things I have done that wound up with no results include:  Restoring Internet options to default, turning off protected mode, and ran a Windows system performance scan.  Also Ive made sure everything on my computer has the latest and greatest updates.

So hopefully somebody here can help me out.

Thanks!

I upgraded my laptop to Win 8.1 a few days ago and everything seemed to be working fine. I ran into an issue today using the desktop version of IE 11 where I can type text into the address bar but if I select a field on a web page, I am not able to type text into it. I normally use FireFox as my browser and it works fine (as does Chrome). If I bring up the Metro version of IE 11, I can enter text fine.

Anybody got any ideas how to fix this? It's not a big deal since I rarely use IE but it bugs me now that I know about it. I just checked on a netbook I upgraded and don't see the issue there.

Hello!

I have a combo box that pulls from a query. The query pulls 5 fields from the same table. The first TWO fields are the primary key for the table. There are many item numbers, but only one item number/version combination. However, when I make a choice from the combo box, if there are more than one of that item number it reverts to the first in the list. It doesn't let me choose between the different version numbers. Below is an example:
Item NumberVersion1016-010003011016-011002031016-011002051016-011003011016-011006011016-013002051016-013003011016-013006031016-014002071016-014003-1016-01400301

Here is the code for the combo box after I switched it from a macro:

'------------------------------------------------------------
' Combo16_AfterUpdate
'
'------------------------------------------------------------
Private Sub Combo16_AfterUpdate()
On Error GoTo Combo16_AfterUpdate_Err
DoCmd.SearchForRecord , "", acFirst, "[Item Number] = " & "'" & Screen.ActiveControl & "'"

Combo16_AfterUpdate_Exit:
Exit Sub
Combo16_AfterUpdate_Err:
MsgBox Error$
Resume Combo16_AfterUpdate_Exit
End Sub
How do I get this to allow me to choose from every record, i.e. specific item number/version pairs?

Thanks!

This is what it looks like:
Hope you guys can help me, because this keeps getting more annoying by the day .

Greetings Rob

Edit:
Ow yeah and when you type something, it looks like a line of dots even when zooming the page in till max.
And its not only with google and google maps, but also with a few other sites (strangely enough not all sites with such a box) where you can type something in a search box.

I am not very good with computers and need a lot of help with this.

I recently got a new laptop and after just 3 days I got this virus that redirects me to spam sites when clicking on links or when I click on search fields on many sites. Also, when I tried logging in on this site after clicking on the "Username" text field it directed me to a spam site saying my computer was infected with viruses and it started "scanning" my computer and it wouldn't let me leave the web page with this annoying pop up till I used the Task Manager to close Explorer.

I usually have to wait till the spam page loads to be able to click on the link again to get what I actually want.

Sometimes before it redirects to a spam site the URL bar says google-analytics.com and abunch of junk or something close to that.

This virus has also infected my PC computer and it happens in all browsers that I have used.

Please tell me what you need to know and what I need to do and I will try my best!

This virus is extremely fusturating and makes web browsing extremely fusturating and I don't know if my security is under attack as well.

I am trying to create links to specific locations with each document between two documents. The document names will change. I can update the current name of the other document by creating a custom property called "otherDoc". I have solved most problems, however, I am unable to insert a field into the address of the link (to make the link dynamic) without utilizing the showfieldcodes command (which is very memory and time consuming since the documents I am working on are very large). Below is my code. I was wondering if there is any way to set the address as a field? Or somehow input an address and it would be understood by word to be field.
Sub link_to_other()

'pastes hyperlink to the other document
Selection.PasteSpecial Link:=True, DataType:=wdPasteHyperlink, Placement:= _
wdInLine, DisplayAsIcon:=False

'selects the hyperlink that was just inserted
Set myField = Selection.PreviousField

'creates variables
Dim temp_address As String
Dim temp_subaddress As String

'sets variables
temp_address = ActiveDocument.CustomDocumentProperties("otherDoc").Value & ".doc"
temp_subaddress = Selection.Range.Hyperlinks(1).SubAddress

'changes the hyperlink the the dynamic value
Set SCut = ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks.Add( _
Anchor:=Selection.Range, _
Address:=temp_address, SubAddress:=temp_subaddress)
End Sub

Hi all,

I?m really in need of some help from some Access experts! I?m a newbie to Access, but I got myself busy with quite a big project... I?m trying to map out the product supply to shops in the whole country. I?ve come quite far for a starter, but I keep having 3 questions, it would be great if you could help me with this!

I have, amongst other tables, two tables called Stock_counted and Reported_quantity.

The table Stock_counted has the following fields:
- Shop_number
- Product_code
- Quantity_counted

The table Reported_quantity has the following fields:
- Shop_number
- Product_code
- Quantity_in
- Quantity_lost_or_returned
- Quantity_out

1. What I would like to do is to make it one table based on Shop_number AND Product_code. So in one record I would like to have Shop_number, Product_code, Quantity_in, Quantity_lost_or_returned, Quantity_out and Quantity_counted. How do I do this, making sure that the quantities end up behind the right product and shop? It is possible that some shops don?t have all items, while other shops might not have all products reported, or both. On top of that, I have another table with a price for each product, which needs to be related to it as well.

2. It happens that some products are found more than once in one specific shop and therefore appear more than once in the table, with the same shop number and product code. How do I automatically SUM these quantities, so that this product only shows up once per shop?

I have had this "bug" before, but my malware / virus tools have always found it, deleted it, (I think) and I worked on. "It" Is the bug that installs a plain period in my search bar, rendering my search bar useless. The search bar will work if I manually delete the "period", but now my browsing is noticably slower.
Don't know if this is relevant, but I cannot uninstall Spybot. When scanning for bugs it gets hung up on something that it explains is a trojan, and freezes Spybot. That's why I was trying to uninstall Spybot.
I think I actually infected myself this time. I forwarded some emails to my laptop from my girl friends desktop which has the same infection; which I forgot about, and now this bug is taxing my aircard net connection.
This is a Vista system, on a laptop. I have Adaware, Spybot, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware.
This has me worried because I do all my online business transactions on my laptop and I'm very fearful of keyloggers, trojans. BTW, I don't check out porn, games, or free music sites. This is my work station, not something I play with.
Thanks for any + all help,
Steve

Gday

I cannot pinpoint the exact date this first started happening, mainly because I use Firefox for most of my browsing. There are however some sites out there that still do not like Firefox.

So on the rare occasion I am forced to use IE, I click on the icon IE opens, the second I try and type in the search bar it shuts down. I have tried upgrading to IE 8 and the same problem still exists.

I have run my anti virus and also superANTIspyware, to make sure no nasties have made there way in. They both come up clean.

Also if I get an email, that has a URL attached, I can click it open (IE is still my default browser), and it will take me to the page.

But once again the second I try and type something into the search bar wham its gone. and if I try to use ctrl it disappears also.

It never used to do this, I am clean out of ideas as to why this is happening.

I have to date tried :-
Upgrading to IE 8 (no difference)
Rolled it back to IE 7
Reset all the defaults (no difference)
Been to this site How to fix Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

The first one works when i try regsvr32 wintrust.dll I get an error :- The module "wintrust.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005

I do not know whether this is relevant or not, but I do not have MSN installed.

A:IE 7 will close down if I type in the search bar

Hi,

Try this post: http://blogs.dotnethell.it/vincent/T...r.__15312.aspx

Please uninstall all of IE that you have installed now. Do not reinstall IE yet. Here are the full details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700/en-us

Now, press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue. Type "cmd" and press enter. Go past the UAC prompt if necessary. In Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" and press enter. If integrity violations are found, upload the logs. See here for full details: System Files - SFC Command

Now reinstall IE8. See above.

Run "sfc /scannow" again. Again, upload the new logs.

Download and run HiJackThis and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Run a scan with each, and upload the logs.

Retest IE. What exactly happens when IE closes. Do you get "IE8 has stopped working", just closing or an error. Is there anything showing in Problem Reports and Solutions or the Event Log?

Also, you may like to know that there is a nice Firefox Extension called IETab2. It works amazingly well for these few websites. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/92382

I type anything but I can type fine in the address box. I took it the the place of purchest it from the teckie there said that IE9 problem. He downloaded it again and it worked for a bit. now the same thing.

A:Can't type anything into search box in Google

just curious, what happens when you start the regular IE9 (32Bit) rather than the 64Bit.

You should have both. I have two Windows 7 64bit and they both have IE9 in 32 & 64bit versions.

Or what happens when you go back to IE8?

Hi,

I got a form A and a subform B. I use B to display data retrieved from a table while use B to simutaneously update that data. More particularly, if I click a row in B, that row will be display on A and the user will be able to edit that data. The forms were designed by someone in MS Access 97. I converted it to MS Access 2003 format. Therefore, I have to link form A and form B. However, I couldn't find Link Master Fields and Link Child Fields in MS Access 2003!

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It really sounds like form A and subform B are both using the same table, and are not a Master/Child field link situation. But rather, form B (the subform) will have code in the "On Current" event that will find the current record on the form B within the form A, therefore allowing that record to be edited. Review your original post, I think you used the "B" one place where you meant to say "A". No matter what, you need to clear up with us out here if both form A and form B are using the same table.

I can press buttons on the top of my screen perfectly fine so it doesn't seem like a damage issue, but I can't type in any search bar, this includes Google, Store, Internet Explorer, ex. The only way to type anything is if I'm in Bing and I type on the lower
search bar and search for Google, then search on that because the search bar then stays in a lower position. I checked out a few things but nothing related to only being able to type on lower bars. They were all "I can't type in ANY search bar."

A:Cannot type in search boxes on IE11

Hi,
Firstly, we need to check the following:
1.  Do you mean the issue is only occurred on yahoo and google website?
2.  How about other browsers? Do they also meet the same issue?
Based on your description, I would like to suggest you try the following to check the issue:
1. To get the latest adobe flash player
Download and install the latest flash player on your computer by visiting the link below.
Install Adobe Flash Player
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
2.  Run Internet Explorer Performance Troubleshooter.
The Internet Explorer Performance Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check for any performance issues which are common with the Internet Explorer on the computer and

provides the details on how to fix them. Follow these steps and run the troubleshooter.
a. Press ?Windows Logo? + ?W? keys from the keyboard.
b. Type ?Troubleshooting? in the search bar and press ?Enter?.
c. In the ?Troubleshooting? window, click on ?View All? on the left pane.
d. Click on ?Internet Explorer Performance?.
e. Click on ?Advanced? and then click on ?Run as Administrator?.
f. Click ?Next? and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
3. Run IE with no add-ons as Rob said. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).

4. Reset Internet Explorer settings

I believe you have a new HP laptop. First you want to check to make sure it is not a hardware problem.
You can the HP Diagnostic test by:

Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) home page displays.

Run tests and watch the Keyboard test carefully! If there is hardware related, you can then call HP to initiate the repair process. It can be a keyboard controller problem or a software problem?

Maybe this is relevant:
Solved Re-installing Cortana - Windows 10 Forums
and there are a good number of other such threads- worth doing a search.

You could try this:
1. Open run command, type PowerShell and press enter to open it
2. Right click on its icon on taskbar and select Run as administrator
3. Paste the below script
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
4. Wait for the Powershell to complete the process, ignore any errors if displayed in the window.

Does your start menu work?
How many icons do you see down the side of the Cortana box (if you can display it - Win key + S)?

Beyond that, as you upgraded, there is a possibility of something being incompatible. What happens if you do a clean boot?

Please clarify "unable to take input to the Search the web and Windows task bar."

I have a database w/ 147 names of research studies in it. I need to find out if the data for these studies has ever been published, and I had a list of about 40 archive websites that publish this type of data. Each site has a search button, so I could copy and paste the name of each study in the search field for each site -- but that's about 6000 individual searches!

Ideally, I'd like a program where it would interface w/ one of the sites, check each name in the database, and provide me w/ a logfile of what it found for each study. Then I could repeat this process w/ each of the 40 sites.

Alternatively, maybe I could find a program where I could give it a list of URLs I need to search, and then paste in each study. And again, it would give me a logfile of what it finds at each site.

Keep in mind these sites are generally maintained by colleges -- they're not major search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. I found a lot of programs that will automatically connect to like 10 different search engines, but that won't help me unless I can specify which sites to connect to. This is about the closest thing I found: http://www.download.com/Happy-Harvester/3000-2379_4-10195677.html?tag=lst-0-25

But it's not exactly what I want and it's expensive.

Typing in an open office doc is ok but sometimes the control buttons don't work (eg bold/underline ect)

If I hold down the backspace key the problem seems to go away.

I have tried using Sharpkeys to disable the backspace key but this did not resolve the problem. The ?presskey? function appears to detect at least one more function of the backspace key that it doesnt recognise. Also tried doing a system restore.

I was looking through some code from a couple of years ago, and I realized I have about 80% of the work done on this. I know there are a lot of power Access users on the board, and I thought I'd size up the interest to see whether finishing the project is worthwhile. Basically it is a class module with a table indexing algorithm and a string/soundex parser that can search for any literal or similar-sounding value (or group of values) in any field in every record. My original idea was to have a query form that built tabbed subforms for every table in which a match was found so that users could easily browse records by table, but I think it would be better to leave the extension up to whoever adopts it. Based on concept and beta testing, it works wonderfully. All that remains is marrying the class to a form wrapper so's to display the results.

Anyway, if I end up doing it, I'll post the code and some documentation along with a sample database as open(ish)ware.

So, is anybody interested in the project? The architecture's so outmoded it almost seems like wasted effort. I'd like to hear some input from Access developers as well as Access users. It's important to remember this isn't a query builder, it's a Google search. The original application was to search for product manufacturers and product types in a market research database.

    Thanks for the feedback
