When I open a video file with WMP, I get this strange message (see picture). Despite the message, the video plays correctly though. This message does not occur with the WMC or VLC.

The message comes regardless from which HDD or SSD I play the video. So it cannot be a disk driver problem. My Display adaptor driver and my Monitor driver (HP w2207h) are on the latest level. And there are no yellow triangles with any other device in Device Manager.

I don't know where to look any more. Any suggestions?

PS: "Web Help" is useless.

I had something strange happen to my computer. I was getting ready to scan some pictures and all of a sudden a little gray bar appeared in the middle of my screen with the word driver on it, and downloaded into my machine.

When I go to the control panel and click on scanner, there is nothing there.

When I go to Systems and click on Device Manager, I go down to where it says, "Universal Serial Bus Controller."
There are 4 three pronged things there but one of them has a red "X" on it and is named, "Unknown Device."

Since that driver came down into my machine, my scanner and printer will not work.
If I click on the printer or the scanner, computer can not find them.

Any idea what happened?

A:Strange Driver Download

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but it sounds like your USB is messed up.

At this point I would suggest shutting down, unhooking all USB devices, and booting in Safe Mode.

Once there, remove all USB items from Device Manager and reboot in normal mode. Let Windows detect your USB ports and make sure they are ok.

Then hook up your devices, one at a time.

have just finished my first pc build from scratch. I installed windows XP media center edition earlier today on 60g drive as a test run, everything checked out. when I removed that drive and replaced it with a 160g xp installed fine but when my DVD rom was reading installing the drivers for my mobo it errored and crashed out of the program installing only 2 of the 4 for the mobo. I did a cold boot and tried to have it finsih, now it is not reading from the cd at all,
XP is finding the DVD rom and the rom will read the XP Disc and let me explore it, also it will auto run burned DVD's however when I put in the driver disc it hangs, and I can hear it reading the same thing over and over, I swapped the mobo driver disc for the video card, both of which loaded fine earlier today, but again the DVD rom would not recognize it in my computer and also hangs reading the same section over and over. I checked both Driver discs in my labtop and they work fine. I swapped the 120g drive back to the 60g to see if it would still read correctly, but no go, it too is hanging now and not recognizing the driver discs.
Anyone have any idea at all what caused this and how I might fix it?

thanks

When I tried to explore the CD in My computer I received this error:

mscorsvw.exe application error

the instruction at ox790948b5 referenced memory at 0x790948b5. The required data was not placed int memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000185.

A:Very Strange Driver Issue with DVD rom - Anyone have any clues?

Sounds like the dvd drive is dying. If its brand new, it could be a bad unit, and died as you were trying to use it.
Double check all the cables going to the drive, unplug them and reseat them.
If that doesn't help look into replacing the drive.

I'm having an issue with a Dell printer that I'm stuck on and can't seem to get a resolution for. Dell isnt being very helpful either. The issue is, whenever something is printed from the web, the job sits in the queue and the print spooler service stops. I have to shut down the printer, and then keep restarting the spooler service until I can delete the job from the queue. Once I do that, and power on the printer, it works fine. I've tried IE and Chrome, with no luck. I've tried the drivers that shipped on disc and the latest from the Dell site, with no luck. Printing from any other app is fine. The user has two other network printers connected, and can print from the web to either of those without an issue.

On the details:
The computer is a Dell Optiplex 360 running Windows 7 Pro x86 SP1. It's fully updated. The printer is a Dell 1320c all-in-one, connected via USB. The user has local admin rights on the box.

I have a HP zv6000 laptop with the Conexant AC97 audio board. I have Vista 64 Ulimate running on it and have spent hours trying to get the audio to work correctly. I have searched forum after forum and tried all the drivers people reccoment. Intel, ATI, Realtek, etc. I can get them to work in testing mode or by F8 but the sound quality i terrible, popping, cracking etc.

Now here is the problem I am hoping you guys can help with. I found the HP realtek drivers for XP64 SP30305.EXE that work without F* and without using testing mode. Now the strange part about them is if I start my computer and then install the drivers manually the sound comes on and works great. But when I restart the cimputer the next time I get a blue screen on vista loading with the "IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL" error and it restarts. Sometimes if I keep restarting it will eventually not bluescreen and will make it in to windows and work great but its not very convienant sitting there restarting for 20min to get it to work. If I go into safe mode and remove the drivers, restart and then install them once im in windows they work fine again aarrgghhhh!!!! Is there anything I can do to get thise working??

A:Conexant Driver Problem, very strange!

After a long time using the ATI Integrated audio solution (i.e. the one with the ported 64bit drivers using the "Disable Driver Signature Enforcment") on by full Vista Business x64, I stumbled upon a solution today from Dell, of all places. Go to dell and download "R145571.exe" (search "r145571", should be there). [EDIT: I JUST SEARCHED IT AGAIN TO MAKE SURE: it appears in the search but reports a dead link once you click on it. For sanity sake, I will attach the driver below!*] Then, run the program (it just unzips files) cancel the automatically popuping setup, and manually update the audio driver from Device Manager. You will have to to the "Let me pick the driver" spiel because "it may not be compatible" yata, but once you navigate to the Vista64 folder in browse, select it and click OK, you will have fully signed sound my friend!!!

It has taken me over a year to finally get a fully functioning Vista x64.

Enjoy!!

*Having trouble with uploader, tried 4 times (2 with firefox, 2 with IE). Uploaded it to the trustworthy driverguide.com, can be found here: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/deta...riverid=1121734. Usual issue with drivers has recently arose, reinstalled the system, couldn't find drivers etc. As this is such an old PC (I believe around 2000) it has been a total pain in the arse to find the audio drivers. I eventually found the driver, installed it and restarted. Thought that would be the end of it but now I'm stuck with a very weird issue.

The audio appears to only work on one account (not the one I installed the driver on). In this account in control panel the device shows up normally. However, on the account that I installed the driver with it shows up as the infamous 'No Audio Device'. This is strange enough - I was unaware that a driver could be functioning only on one account, but it gets worse. On the non functioning account, I opened DxDiag and clicked to the Sound tab (there's actually 2, but this worked for both of them) and clicked the Test DirectSound button. This worked, could hear all of the sounds they played to me; even though in control panel there is apparently No Audio Device.

EDIT: Worth noting that on the Music tab, clicking Test DirectMusic also works.

So it seems that on one account, the driver is either missing, corrupt or somehow disabled, when in the other account it works fine. I have of course tried reinstalling the driver but that was to no avail.

Any ideas? I have never come across something like this before, and it has really bamboozled me :/

All help is much appreciated. I have attached logs from DxDiag, Specc... Read more

Strange sound driver problem...I think...Please Help!

Ok, I got a rather serious sound issue that I have been trying to figure out all week. Everything on my system has been working perfectly until a few days ago when I started up my computer and received a message, right before the XP logo, which said, "NTLDR is missing" and it did not boot. So, I borrowed the hard drive from my other computer and hooked it up, setting my troubled hard drive up as a slave drive. Then I started up my computer and it booted up, then it went into the error checking scan for my troubled hard drive. It went through the check finding a bunch of errors and fixed them. So, I took out my other computer's hard drive and put the one in that had the problem with. I started my system back up and it booted fine and everything was good, except that I had absolutely no sound. I reinstalled/updated all my sound drivers and nothing works. Then I reinstalled DirectX thinking it might have something to do with it, no go. I tried various things to fix it, but I can?t not figure out what is wrong. I even went as far as doing a Windows XP Pro repair on my system, still no sound. Neither my on-board sound nor PCI-slot sound card, Sound Blaster Audigy, is recognized by my system. DirectX and ?Sounds and Audio Devices Properties? say that there is no audio device. When I go into my ?Device Manager? all the drivers are there, enabled, and they all say they are working properly. Hi,

I've recently had a few problems with my keyboard. First of all, I sometimes couldn't change the language from english to my local one (by using Shift+Alt), when trying to write my stuff on office applications and in IExplorer (I think quite some users on the net have been having the problem). All I had to do was to restart in order to solve the problem, but it sometimes persisted, plus restarting was way too inefficient.

Now I have this other problem where sometimes, some keyboard keys yield different ASCII characters than what they're meant to! For example the Shift+9 key which is "(" would yield the question mark "?" character the other day. And a few other keys did the same as well.

I don't know what this problem is but it sounds like a "low-level" driver-oriented problem to me. So maybe I should re-install my drivers for the keyboard? How do I go about doing this? My keyboard is a microsoft one which was plug-n-play so I don't have a CD or anything, I just plugged it into the USB port and it has been working ever since.

I have updated the drivers through the device manager for the device listed under "Keyboard" (though my keyboard is a USB device, I hope WinXP will know that), I hope it will fix the problem, but if you have any suggestions I'll gladly listen to them.

EDIT: And also a virus is an unlikely cause of this because I do believe that my security is pretty tight. Plus I've scanne... Read more

Strange ATI 4850 and June AMD Driver Issue

Ok, so I am having a strange issue with my ATI 4850. When I get new driver(s) I test the driver(s) on a old IDE hard drive. If the new drivers are stable I install them on my raided hard drives.

Here is my issue. My 4850 will only work on the IDE hard drive but not the raided hard drives. The installations are identical and have the same drivers installed. So what could be causing this? May drivers work fine.

I'm currently having some strange graphical problems with my PC and I need help determining what the problem is and fixing it. Here's a complete breakdown of everything that's going on. Hopefully someone can help me figure out what the issue is.

It started about two weeks ago with a few glitches in Windows 7 aero. The preview windows would glitch, I'd get lines across the desktop, and the border of windows would vanish entirely. (screenshots included) Switching themes would temporarily correct the problem, only to have it resurface later. I also noticed that they would only occur while using Internet browsers (both IE and Safari)

Testing with all my games at the time (Including Batman AC, GTA IV, and CoDBO which are the games that push my graphics card the hardest) showed no artifacts or performance problems whatsoever, which leads me to think it's not the graphics card failing.

Unfortunately a few days ago I started getting "amd display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" messages while in web broswers and Terraria. Meanwhile my high end games are still running fine.

Everything I've been able to find about the problem seems to point to it being a corrupt file somewhere. Especially since I get no artifacts or graphical problems while playing high end games.

I've already tried updating the drivers (were already up to date) rolling back the drivers (no effect) repairing the drivers (no issues found) used sfc/scannow in hopes it would fix any di... Read more

So I have a weird behavior and I cannot find what the cause would be. I have several computers and I am getting an optional update whereas I think I should not be getting based on my settings.

Computer A - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - GTX260 - no update
Computer B - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - GTX780Ti - optional update
Computer C - Windows 7 Home 64-bit - GTX430 - optional update
Computer D - Windows 7 Home 64-bit - GTX430 - optional update
Computer E - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - GTX675M - no update

The update is to the Nvidia drivers where I do not update to current via the Windows update nor do I update to the current via the Nvidia website since the latest drivers are causing issues.

My understanding is that in order for Windows 7 not to look for driver updates you need to go to:
Start > Devices and Printers > right click on your computer, select Device installation settings and then set the following;
* No, let me choose what to do
* bubble in Never install driver software from Windows Update

All the above systems are setup this way. So I am not sure why some systems are showing up as an optional update while others are not. I know that the Nvidia drivers are not current.

So am I missing some other setting that is causing this?

uh I do not know if this is a permanent fix but you could go into Windows Update and right click the update and select "Hide this update", note there will be the UAC shield next to the option so be prepared with the Admin password.

Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to install a printer onto an XP (SP3) computer and I am experiencing the strangest error.

Here is a little background about the installation - 1). The printer (a Kyocera FS-1100) is connected to a Windows 7 computer by USB, 2). The printer is shared from the Windows 7 computer, 3). Even though the Windows 7 computer is 64 Bit it has both 32 & 64 bit drivers installed.

Got a Dell XPS studio 1340 laptop with Win 7 Ultimate.

Every time I start it up it says 'Installing device driver software' ...

then, after a little while, it says 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.

I checked the device manager, there are yellow exclamation marks (!) around the more than 100 HP printers (such as HP LaserJet 5100 series) in the "Other Device". I certainly do not have those printers.
I uninstalled them, and they would come back again.

These printers might be on the network of my working place. I have disabled the network discovery in Win 7 including the network printer sharing. they are not visible to my computer any more but it did not solve the problem: various HP printers are still keeping to be installed on my laptop.
Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks

Well, it's not a problem (now). I'm playing old games and i got lags in places, where are many of 3D models and I'm having white spots/dots on them. Here's the pic:

Do I need to reinstall my Windows? Do i need to change my graphics card? Please, help me.

P.S. I didn't clean my PC engine about for years (from dust), it could be a problem?

My System Specs:

Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 2.27 Ghz.

A:Intel Video Card?Driver? Strange Problem

If you haven't cleaned your PC for a while, it could have dust build-up causing it to overheat, hence the white dot artefacts. It could also just be poor models in the game. Its hard to say at this point.

Download Speccy here Speccy - System Information - Free Download and see what temperature your graphics card is running at, and report back here with that.

Ok, this is my first time posting here so excuse me if i'm not technical enough.

I'm a computer gamer, especially the online stuff of course. I admit I play a bit too much but that never affected the computer before (unless I went way too overboard and it overheated.)

Well now, the computer completely locks up whenever I play any kind of game after a few minutes. As well as repeating whatever sound was playing rapidly causing a sort of buzzing sound. Sometimes it doesn't or it just restarts my computer. Iv'e done virus scans and spyware scans and found quite alot. I even used this site's startup program list to kill off spyware. (Yes, I followed the warnings and instructions to make sure I didn't erase any important things.)

I found quite alot of spyware, but removing it didn't help a bit. No viruses were detected, probly because I had done a full scan not too long ago.

Now many people have told me to update my audio and video drivers, I went and got the latest nvida drivers for my card but I couldn't find any for my audio card. I went to check what kind of card it was and got this stuff in DXdiag:

Emu10Kx Audio [df00]

Device ID: PCI\VEN_1102DEV_0002SUBSYS_80651102REV_0...(etc, it keeps going.)

Driver name: ctaud2k

I know it looks like creative labs, But I need specifics on what version and device I have to get drivers. I went to their site and its kinda confusing if you ask me. I found something about the whole "Emu" th... Read more

I frequently clear the cache, delete temporary files, and uninstalled software I no longer use.....but the next time I login I notice the files are back! Last week I was having issues connecting to wifi and I noticed the sound on my laptop completely stopped working and the Atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter suddenly became unresponsive. I opened the driver manager and there was a yellow triangle so I tried to update the driver and received a message stating the driver was up to date. I received the same message when I attempted to update the Realtek High Definition Audio driver. To troubelshoot the issue I downloaded the Realtek HIgh Definition Audio driver and the Atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter driver from sony.

So I am anticipating upgrading to Windows 8 so started doing some research on compatible hardware and drivers. I discover I am a few versions back on my video card drivers. I have a PNY GeForce 680. I decide to update to the latest WHQL driver which is also compatible with Windows 8 64Bit. After updating to the driver while browsing the internet in Chrome my computer reboots. It doesn't blue screen, just shuts down and starts to reboot. I then get a BIOS error saying PCI-e card in slot 2 error which is my video card. I shut down and reboot again and all seems fine only to have it randomly shut down again. I try system restore.....haha, when does that ever work. I try to install an older driver, not quite my original driver, but in that direction. No worky. I even try some BETA drivers. Some older and some newer than the latest WHQL driver. NO dice. Each time I install new drivers to try out I launch Vimeo and Youtube and play HD videos which seems to trigger the freeze. Every time I try the latest driver in addition to some newer BETA drivers it reboots. Finally I go back to my original 301.42 and "stress" test my system with the streaming videos and all is fine!!! I have tried Driver Sweeper and it seemed to remove all of my old drivers but cannot for the life of me figure out why it will not let me update the drivers.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Toby

I have updated my network drivers, and tried a few other troubleshooting methods.

I had this problem with hamachi, and I would uninstall it every time I shut my computer down, then installed it every time I started it up, this got tiresome, but eventually I don't know how, but somehow I used system restore as something in my computer had gone odd, and hamachi somehow was installed, and didn't BSOD.

But I need to install VMWare, and it just isn't working as I get a BSOD.

No random "interferences" in any other place of the screen, ONLY on the cars shadows. This odd problem does not happens with all games, but some of them... And, recently, I detected one interesting aspect: some of the games that shows this issue DO NOT MORE shows the interferences when I "block" the ANTI-ALIASING! Others games keep with this issue, even when I "block" all kind of "eye-candy" - AA & AF - as Mercedes Benz World Racing and Ford Racing 2. When I run 3DMark03 (even with all "eye-candy" disabled), within some (not all) game tests, I can see "black traced lines" in some parts of the screen (only BLACK TRACES, never another color or format of "interference").
As I just got this video card, my case is with good average temps, and it was not cheap for me, I think that I will try to return the product. But, as I live in Brazil (and, here, the "return" of hardware is, generally, a complex and bureaucratic process), I would like to be sure that my video card has r... Read more

Ok, I'll give you all a quick rundown of my problem, and what i did to try and fix it.

First off, i have a 60gb ide drive for my windows installation (3 other drives for storage), and i got a 150gb Raptor X, which is sata. I cloned the 60gb boot drive onto the raptor, but it didnt boot, and said the HAL was corrupt. My guess would be that the hardware abstraction layer got all defunct when it saw the new sata drive, but was expecting an ide? After all that, i decided to run a chkdsk on the ide drive, and clone it again, to see if it booted. I used the recovery console on a windows xp pro disc, but alas, i couldnt chkdsk because i forgot my admin password. Stupid me. Well, i thought i'd reset the admin password with the windows xp repair installation. (Hit shift+f10 when it is "installing devices" in the gui part of the windows installation, and modify users from the cmd prompt.) But, i didnt get that far. after it copied all the files in dos, and would normally go back and continue installation, it restarted the computer and flashed the windows logo, normal stuff. then the logo went away and the computer restarted. Now it's in an endless loop, and does the same if i try the repair installation again. I really need to get this drive back up and running somehow.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Also, i used Paragon HDD manager 6 to clone the hard drives.

Hello Family !
I have an Emachine W3653 with Vista on it.
The computer had some viruses and trogans on it so I ran Malwarebytes, SpyBot Search and Destroy and Super Anti Spyware, multiple times, until they all came up cleanwith no infections.
But for some reason, I can sit and watch the "cookies folder" , without having Internet Explorer opened up, and cookies keep popping up as I watch. I can clean out all the cookies and they just keep comming back, even though I don't go on line.
Also, Avast is popping up errors about blocking malicous URLs even when the computer is just sitting there.
I have also went on line and ran Trend Micro House Call, (online scanner) and it even came back with zero infections.
It seems as if something is hooked up to the internet and downloading good and bad cookies. In one minute it downloaded 11 cookies.
I'm stumped on what is doing this ! I have also downloaded all new updates for Maywarebytes, Spybot and Super AntiSpyware and ran them but I still come up with zero infections found, now.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated in helping me figure out whats wrong with this desktop.
Thank you !

To remove the infection, run the command mbr.exe -f (note the space between the e and -f) from a command prompt. Have the user reboot the machine, otherwise the next report may still show (false) infection. Open Windows Explorer and rename the C:\mbr.log to C:\mbr.oldGo to Start > Run and type: cmdpress Ok.At the command prompt, type: cd \press Enter. At the command prompt, type: mbr.exe -f(make sure you have a space before the e and the -f)press Enter. At the command prompt, type: exitpress Enter. It will produce a new report at C:\mbr.log. Please copy/paste the results in your next reply.

I just now noticed something incredibly odd happening in my start menu. The Search option, specifically, where it's supposed to say Search, is replaced with strange lettering. Here's a picture of what it looks like:

I have had BSOD for a while and being super busy I did not have time to look at it and get it fixed. Well Being a computer guy I assumed I could fix it myself. But with tons of research and trying to use every guide I can find I decided to try here(probably should have came here first). Today I started Driver Verifier and having it check all drivers. It crashed a couple times before I realized it was a process I had to stop. I then came here to try and get some help sorting out the driver. Thank you in advance for any and all help anyone provides.

About a month or two ago, I got a virus on my desktop.  My husbands IT friend dialed in and cleaned it out for me.  He recommended that I stop using Norton (because of the space it takes up and other reasons.....) and loaded AVG and told me to not use Internet Explorer and to use Firefox (which I have always hated)   He did a scan using Malwarebytes and found 160+ on my computer.  After he was done (5+ hours) I still seemed to have issues. (all programs would end up at "not responding" eventually, sometimes right after restarting the computer)

A friend of mine's husband is an IT guy, so I took my computer to him, he found some add on's that should be deleted in my Inbox, but that was all.  He messed around on firefox, played around for a couple hours with different programs, etc.  Nothing went to not responding.  I brought the computer home and after about 5 minutes on firefox... Not responding.  My inbox went to not responding... etc.  And this is still happening.

While my comuter was being fixed the 2nd time, I started using my lap top.  (which I hardly use at home at all)  I started having the same issues.  (Computer is Windows 7, laptop is Vista)  All programs started going to Not responding, taking long time to load, etc.

Last week we went on vacation to Washington DC, and I took my laptop.  Issues seemed to disappear.  Got home... guess what.&... Read more

I have this problem:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

The driver could not be loaded because a previous version of the driver is still in memory.

and now I am not able to connect any usb device to my laptop making it virtually impossible to use windows 10.
How do I downgrade to windows 7,have enough of the beta testing.
I even have a purchased version of windows 10 pro which I really regret buying, worst investment ever.
