Preferred Solution: Thinkpad T460 - HD screen upgrade to FHD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Looks like this model does support FHD as per psref. The P/N will be 00PA889 and cable  01AW310 will be unless you are planning to upgrade for touch panel. For replacement you can use hmm or video assembly guide

Is there an extra empty slot to add RAM to the Lenovo T460 Thinkpad (Intel Core i5 6200 CPU @ 2.30Ghz)?  What's the maximum RAM I can add up to (currently 16GB RAM on 1TB HDD)?  Do I just slot in the RAM and will be able to use immediately? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi all! I just bought a second-hand ThinkPad t460 (20FM) laptop which was working fine when I got it. Because I just wanted to make sure I was all up to date and working I started a factory-restet (F11 -> erase all files etc.)During this reinstall I was also asked if I should erase the TPM.  I did.  THE PROBLEM:When I boot my computer, I see the Lenovo logo and the screen is backlit until I get to the Windows 10 login. Then the screen darkens and I need a flashlight to see anything on the screen.  I have run the Lenovo companion and downloaded all the updates... Does anyone have an idea!? I'm stuck. Please help! Thanks!

Hi everyone, I have a T460 (20FNCTO1WW) that has a touchscreen panel. Unfortunately, the screen has blotches of deadish pixels (still has color, but are greyish). I would like to replace the screen, but am having a hard time finding a replacement. It seems like 40-pin touch screens for the T460 got discontinued? Regardless, I hardly ever use the touch screen feature, so would be open to going non-touch, but not really sure how to go about doing that. Are there 40-pin to 30-pin converters so I could go with a 30-pin monitor? Are T450 or T470 monitors an option?

I recently purchased a T460 with an Ultradock 90w and when the notebook is docked it only shows battery 1 (internal) as charging. Battery 2 is not being used but it is not charging either and it is very very slowly discharging (about 3% over the last few days). If I plug the Thinkpad into its normal power supply outside of the dock both batteries charge (one at a time). Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong with my dock?

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

I believe you are using Windows 10, then you can use Lenovo Vantage to control the Battery Charge Threshold from there below is the referenced attached snapshot:
Open Lenovo Vantage>Hardware Settings>Power and then scroll down you'll get the option of Battery Charge Threshold.

Hoping someone can help me with my issue. My Thinkpad T460 that I bought last October (nearly a year now) won't turn on. It randomly shut off on me a few days ago while casually surfing the web. No warning, no nothing. Every time I try to turn on my laptop, the screen will quickly flicker once, the light indicators for certain keys will flicker once (mute mic key and Caps lock key for example), the fan will turn on for half a second before stopping, and the power led will blink. This would all happen at the same time obviously, as if it's the laptop is trying to run, but fails to do so. Plugged in to the AC, the power led would blink 2 times. I've tried disconnecting the external battery, tried pressing the tiny reset button, but still won't work. Hoping someone can help! Thanks

Could be disk.  Could be memory.  Could be something like the power button.  If you bought it nearly a year ago, you are probably still under warranty.  Call support.  In US, it is 1-800-426-7378

I have a new ThinkPad T460 with Windows 10 Pro x64.  Under Ports (COM & LPT) Device Manager shows a Serial  Port using Intel Active Management Technology.  By right-clicking on this entry, the port can be configured like any normal serial port between 75 bbs and 128,000 bbs, I can set the word length, Partiy and number of Stop Bits.  However, there is no serial port on the machine.  I did not expect to find a serial port on the T460 since it is not advertised as having a serial port. However, this Device Meneger entry is a surpise and quite confusing. Can anyone tell me where tis phantom serial port is located?

Hi all, I was working on my laptop this morning and it suddenly died (screen went black, all indicator lights off). No warning indications came up before it died. It was plugged into the AC adapter with full battery. When I pressed the power button to restart it, nothing happened--no lights, no fan, no screen activity. The red light in the "i" of "ThinkPad" on the back of the screen won't come on, even when the AC adapter is plugged in. The laptop was on top of a blanket so I thought maybe it overheated, but the bottom of the laptop and the battery itself weren't hot. I removed the battery and tried a number of strategies I saw online: 1) pressed power button 10 times at 1-sec intervals, then held for 30 seconds, 2) pressed power button for 20 seconds, 3) pressed button for 30 seconds. I removed the battery and tried to turn on the machine between each strategy. I've tried the emergency reset button underneath the touchpad. I've removed the battery and tried the AC adapter only, tried with the battery with and without AC adapter.  I've had the laptop since August 2016 with no problems. No updates installed within the past few days. Help is very much appreciated!!!!Thank you!

I bought this back in 2017. It has been a great computer until couple months ago. The computer suddenly froze, and I had to force turn it off. When I turned it on again, it just won't boot into Windows. I did not install new softwares/applications for quite a while. I ran built in diagnostics, and everything seems fine. I can get into BIOS setting by hitting F1. I created a Linux bootable USB, and the computer can boot into Linux, where I can get access to my documents saved on Windows. Since I have backed up my important files, I thought I can reimage Windows. I have created a USB recovery key, but it didn't work-- I pressed F12 to tell computer to run the recovery program saved in my USB, it had windows logo and a spinning circle of dots for few seconds, and then the screen becomes total black.    Folks, any advice? Thanks for your time and help.

Hello, I am starting a new job where I will b working from home. Before my orientation, I purchased two monitors for my home office. I am currently at my orientation for this week and was just provided my work laptop (ThinkPad T460). My question is: what docking station or stations are available for me to purchase where I can plug my two monitors into the station and be able to use both the monitors AND laptop at the same time. I am not the most techy person, so you may have to dumb down your responses. I've read several reviews on Lenovo docking stations and some people are saying their monitors will only work with the laptop shut or if the laptop is open then only one of the monitors will work. I want both monitors AND the laptop to be able to be used at the same time. Are you able to point me in the right direction to the right docking station or docking stations that would allow me to accomplish this for my home office? Thank you very much in advance!

A:ThinkPad BIOS Flash Update Utility - T460

Hello Judith,

Select the ThinkPad BIOS update option.  BIOS updates do happen from time to time.  Some users choose to not update, but from the readme it appears that the latest update includes a security fix - so it's probably a good idea.

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/r06uj66w.txt

Once in a great while a BIOS update goes awry and causes serious problems.  I've never had that happen but YMMV.

With both models, Thinkpad S1 and Thinkpad T460, I run into a reproducable Windows 10 crash when I use the Microsoft Edge browser app: Clicking on the "Review now" button" in Google.ch, that appears at the bottom of the Google search window, just right of the "A privacy reminder of Google" text. The overlay windows opens and then Windows freezes fully and has to be restarted by a hard reset. This doesn't happen in other browsers like Firefox, Chrome or Microsoft IE.
