Yoga 920 Sleep issue

Q: Yoga 920 Sleep issue

Hi there, I'm not sure if this topic's been brought up since I couldn't find it. But I recently purchased the Yoga 920, and everything works fine except that the laptop goes to sleep after some time on it's own. I've changed the power settings for both screen lid down as well as the "put computer to sleep" to "nothing" and "never" respectively and it still happens. Even in my advanced power settings, there's only a very limited power menu. Also possibly related, there's only a "balanced" power plan, no battery saver or high performance. Regardless, it's driving me insane and any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've has a history of sleep issues on my yoga 3 pro that came with Windows 10. Short History-------------1) Work properly for a few months after purchase2) The issue started (Laptop starts sleep process, screen goes blank, keyboard stays lighted, power stays lighted. It never goes to sleep, I cannot wake it, and need to hold the power button down for 10 seconds (i.e. kill power entirely))3) After many driver updates I still had the problem. I can only assume a Windows update started the issue but who knows.4) I noticed a BIOS update from Lenovo the other day so I gave that a shot. I was at version ***56*** and it was ***58****. It fixed the issue!5) Received Windows Update (Build 1607, Anniversary update) and now the problem is back. I've disabled sleep entirely as my current solution, but would like sleep to function as intended. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix? Does anyone know the root cause? Thanks

Hi everyone,  I bought a Yoga 920 about a month ago, and in the last week or so have had an issue with the computer's sleep function. Essentially, when I put the computer to sleep (either by shutting the lid or clicking using the mouse or pressing the power button), after a few minutes, it will not wake like you would expect it to do so under regular operation. The only way to awaken the laptop is to hold the power button and do a hard reset. This has caused me to have to do a hard reset multiple times a day.  The issue appears to be similar to this: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/34896  Has anyone had a similar problem? What solutions are there?

I have a yoga 900 and have set the power options to make the laptop sleep when the lid is closed. When I close the lid the laptop/tablet thinks that its been switched into tablet mode and prompts you to change to tablet mode in windows. Its as if I flipped the screen all the way around the other way. The unit does not sleep and just sits there eating up battery. Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks,

You seem to be saying that you yourself have "set the power options to make the laptop sleep when the lid is closed". If this is so, I don't understand, because the Yoga 900 should be set this way in the factory by default.

I have an issue with my Yoga 900 not reacting when putting it into sleep mode. I have tried chaning my sleep and wake up settings and the laptop is supposed to wake up upon use of the keyboard or mouse, but nothing happens. Also hitting the power button doesn't help. The only solution is a hard reset. This is particularly annoying when the computer goes into sleep automatically. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a solution?

Hi, I  got Yoga 920 with Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock that is connected to two 4k Samsung monitors. Just recently when I put Yoga 920 to sleep the monitors will switch off, but in 10-15 sec start looking for a signal.Basicaly screen goes to black (looks like monitor is off) and then in 10 sec it switches on a show blank screen with input name on (DisplayPort) and than it goes off and in 10 sec on with input name ..... this keeps cycling on and off. This is happening on both monitors. It's strange as it used to work fine untill recently (apropox 1 week ago). Im on latest bios with Yoga 920 and latest firmware for Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Lenovo Vantage says my system is up to date. The windows recently updated to Windows 10 (1709), not sure if that is related. Any help how to fix this issue?

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

Hi, I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 (1.5 yrs old; Intel core 2 CPU 2.33GHz; 2GB RAM) with Vista Business (SP1 32bit) and often when I put it to sleep, it will hang or crash on resume forcing me to to do a hard shut down. Sometimes the screen will just be totally black and hang, and sometimes it will get to vista's "resuming" splash screen or even the login screen and then hang/crash. Often the disk activity LED will remain on indefinitely (due to the hang) even though I can't hear any disk activity. As far as I'm aware all my drivers are up to date. I'm just so fed up with loosing documents and personal settings now I've got to do something about it, and from googling, it seems this is a pretty widespread problem but I've not come across a solution that's worked for me - I've even installed the extra KB patch that was meant to fix it.

Also, sometimes when I put it to sleep (fully charged) and not use it for a a few hours, I find that the laptop has lost power during sleep because the battery has been run flat and the ventilation grille feels warm, even though I know that the battery can normally last much much longer on sleep. Is it possible that the computer resumed itself from sleep to hibernate after 200 mins on battery (as my power settings dictate) and then crashed whilst resuming, causing it to drain itself flat (since it my laptop should have entered automatic hibernation on the critical battery warning unless it was unable to respond)? Is this a pow... Read more

I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a notice with a minute report (in the zip file) usually saying there was a blue screen, but I NEVER see any blue screen at all.

I know the power configuration is OK because I have always used the same scheme. A powercfg ?energy report shows several errors and warnings. They refer to USB and PCI (vendor 1002=ATI motherboard), but I don?t know how to repair them.

I downloaded the drivers downloader from Rrecipester.org and downloaded and installed the drivers. They are all Broadcom Corporation signed, the brand of my USB Bluetoth attachment. I rebooted after installing, as recommended. Run powercfg ?energy again and got the same report issues (in the zip file). I don?t think the processor utilization warnings to be very important because they are low and sporadic picks. It has been like this for some time now, so I don?t have a restore point. Can someone help and tell me what I can do so solve this issue, please?

Files uploaded in the attached zip:
. Windows warning after reboot
. Windows dump and xml files (2 = 1 each)
. Powercfg -energy report
I wanted to correct the thread title, but was unable to do it. Maybe someone else can do it.

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I just spent the last 30 minutes searching for this issue and can't seem to find anyone else who is having this problem.  The issue I'm having is that whenever I flip the lid to go into tablet mode, the machine seems to go into sleep or hibernate.  It doesn't do it 100% of the time, but it will always do it when I really need to go into OneNote to take some quick notes but instead waste time having to flip it around again, log in, and flip back into tablet mode a second time.  Occasionally, it will shut down completely instead of going to sleep, or resume but with a blank screen, forcing me to manually power it off by holding the power button, but these occurances aren't nearly as frequent as it going into sleep.  Another thing I noted is that when it resumes from the sleep mode it goes into, sometimes the Lenovo Battery Guage will show up with a red X, as though a battery isn't detected.  I find it odd because the machine functions just fine on battery.  If I plug in the AC power in this state, it will recognize the AC power as plugged in, but the battery gauge's status of "no battery" does not change.  If I open the battery app, it properly detects the battery and its charge level.   Things I have done to attempt resolution:* Disable all sleep/hibernate mode options in Windows Power Manager* Checked all applicable settings in the Lenovo Settings app* Ensure system was up to date with all Windows Updates, as well as... A:X1 Yoga going to sleep after flipping lid

I guess I've come up with a diagnosis and a partial solution.   The problem apparently was the computer constantly failing to see the battery installed.  It would randomly detect the battery as not being installed, even when I was on battery and the machine stayed on just fine.  The battery has been functioning perfectly in the sense that I could operate off of AC power without issue, but the Power Gauge would show no battery being detected, then eventually it would come back and be fine, showing the proper charge level.   The reason the machine kept "turning off", or in this case Hibernating, was because Windows is set to either go to Sleep or Hiberate when it reaches the "Critical battery action" percentage in the Power Manager.  Because the battery would no longer be detected, the "Critical battery action" would kick in because it would think the battery is completely out of juice.  Unfortunately, Windows does not allow you to set this action to "Do nothing", offering only the options of "Sleep" or "Hibernate".   The partial solution:I followed a procedure I found for another model.  It involved the following steps: 1) Go into the BIOS2) Disable the battery3) Shut down machine and disconnect the battery4) Plug in AC power and boot into the OS5) Shut down the machine, disconnect AC, and press the power button 10 times6) Reconnect the battery and AC and boot into Windows So far, after doing that proce... I've had this happen a few times and only when I least expect it.  I thought that perhaps it didn't like me disconnecting devices after shutdown but after several rounds of testing, I think the problem is closing the lid (which is set to sleep) but not always. Is anyone else finding that sometimes when the computer should sleep that it's shut down completely, without hibernating, thus resulting in a cold boot the next time it's started up? Each time it's happened, I've found the following event in the event log at the same time that I expected the computer to sleep, so I know that it's not a case of an attempt at hibernation that failed. Log Name:      SystemSource:        EventLogDate:          5/22/2017 5:11:59 PMEvent ID:      6008Task Category: NoneLevel:         ErrorKeywords:      ClassicUser:          N/AComputer:      FennelDescription:The previous system shutdown at 3:01:37 PM on ?5/?22/?2017 was unexpected.Event Xml:<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">  <System>    <Provider Name="EventLog" />    <EventID Qualifiers="32768">6008</EventID>    <Level>2</Level>... I had posted about this near the start of 2016 and then a BIOS update was released to fix the issue. The Yoga 900 wakes up from sleep when picked up and rotated. Previously, the issue was with the screen hitting the buttons and waking the laptop up. Now, I think it might have to do with rotating it when it is asleep. I do not have this problem if I rotate the laptop as it is going to sleep, only if I pick it up after it has gone to sleep. I have been having this issue since the last BIOS update was released. Is there some way to fix this problem? If not, can an update be released to fix the issue? If I need to clarify something about the problem, please let me know.

Hi all, I've had a Yoga 13 for nearly a full year now with no problems until recently, when the laptop has constantly failed to enter sleep mode when the lid is closed. As a result, the laptop will continue to run in my bag until the battery drained. It is not a problem of rewaking when closed, as the screen will remain on with lid closure and the laptop never enters sleep mode. Is there a way to tell if this is being caused by a software problem (recent update to 8.1) or if the hardware involved in sensing a closed lid is now faulty? Steps already taken:Usng advice from a previous thread, I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software - this does not solve any conflicts with Window's own energy management.Power options shows that device is supposed to sleep on lid closure - changing settings to hibernate did not cause machine to hibernate on lid closure either.Powercfg shows no wake timers, -devicequery wake_armed shows "RTL8723A 4.0 + High Speed Chip." However, these should only be impacting the problem if it was waking from sleep - my device never enters sleep in the first place. Thanks for the help - hopefully I can fix this while hanging on to this fantastic laptop.

A:Yoga 13 does not sleep on lid closure

I know I'm digging up an old post and I'm not sure if you've figured it out. I also had this problem and I think I've 'fixed' it. When I was trying to diagnose the problem, I too tried to watch the screen closely as I closed the lid. I noticed that right before the magnets click together, I saw a notification appear on the screen. If you open the lid again fast enough, you might be able to see the message. The message I saw was a digalog box asking me if I wanted to enable tablet mode. This made me think that for some reason, the laptop thought I was actually folding the screen backwards (into tablet mode) when I was actually closing the lid. What I did was to fold the screen all the way back, waited for the computer to show the dialog box, I chose an answer (I think I chose 'Always ask'), and then folded it back into regular laptop mode. I closed the lid, the screen turned off, and the computer went into sleep mode (the setting I chose in Power Options). Hope this helps.

A:WHere is the sleep button on the yoga 460

Do you mean a physical button? I've made a quick scan through both the Yoga 460 hardware manual and the user guide, and I can find no reference to a "sleep button". Where do you see such discussed/hinted at?

Regards.

Anyone else having a problem with it not waking up from sleep? I put it to sleep, the screen goes black and the keyboard is still lit up. I try to press the Windows logo on the screen or the power button and nothing happens. I feel the vibration but that is it. What I find funny is that I can still turn on and off the backlit keyboard.

A:Yoga 2 Pro not waking up from sleep

Yeah, so it eventually turns off on its own to the point where the Windows logo below the monitor no longer vibrates when pushed and I have to power on the machine. Might just do a restore and see what happens from there...

Just got a brand new Yoga 710 w/ Win 10 Pro and the system just shuts down when put to sleep.Happens when:- I close the lid (even if "close lid" power option is set to sleep), or- I select the "Sleep" option from the Start [equivalent] menu, the system immediately shuts down (within seconds),- Leave the system idle for 5 min (what sleep timeout is set) And since it shuts down:- I lose any open document, applications running, etc. Also, on restart, Windows occasionally will also complain that it wasn't shutdown properly, starts to scan disk, etc. This is really BAD!- Pressing the mouse or keyboard doesn't do anything and only pressing the power button will get it working again (and I see the Lenovo BIOS logo, etc.).It feels like the OS is trying to go to sleep, but the laptop is shutting down instead. I tried calling Lenovo customer service but the response was really really unacceptable:- First tried to disable sleep completely and saying that that since this is a new machine so that should be okay.- I asked what about battery life if I don't use the laptop (say overnight) for a while -- response was I should shutdown the laptop. I checked the power option, tried disabling hibernate, disable fast boot, etc. and other suggestions from searching the forum but nothing worked.   Also checked BIOS settings but there's not much that can be changed (which is rather surprising).Drivers are BIOS are up-to-date. Any other ideas?  Any one else seeing this i... Hey everyone, I was wondering is it normal for the fan to be still running after I put the laptop to sleep? It happens both with clicking "Sleep" in the Start Menu and closing the lid. I can see the think red dot starting to blink but the fan still runs for about 30 seconds or so with hot air pumped out. I've never noticed that with the X1 Yoga 2nd Gen. Is this a new feature or a new bug...? Thanks a lot! Jack

Hello!

I bought a Windows 10 Asus laptop about a month back and have been running into a few issues. I actually have tried asking the Microsoft tech forums directly but with a lack of responses I feel I need to ask elsewhere.

There are two issues I have here that I'm trying to fix. Neither are laptop breaking at the moment but I'd like to fix them for the purpose of fluidity etc.

First off: I'd like to explain that I managed to find a work around for my touchscreen not working after the laptop went into sleep mode only for a different issue to crop up. I recently noticed that the time my laptop was taking to wake up from sleep wasn't actually it waking up from sleep. . . It restarted the laptop. The laptop goes to sleep just fine but upon opening the lid OR if I leave the lid open and hit a button to wake it up, the laptop takes about 30-40 sec to "wake up" but in reality it appears to reboot the laptop.

Secondly: I've encountered this issue from the very moment I downloaded Mozilla Firefox. The video on fullscreen mode for any site and any streaming agent (Update all addons, drivers, etc.) use to stutter. I worked out a fix where now it lags or stutters now and then. I'm not sure how to remove the issue altogether. I've tried safe mode and fresh installations of firefox but the issues remain. As of now the hardware acceleration is disabled alongside opengl. This issue does not present itself on microsoft Edge on the same sites, videos (Same resolution for the v... Read more

A:Sleep issue + Full Screen Video issue

For your first issue:

The ASUS drivers have been known to cause problems with the Windows 10 sleep process for some systems. One of the ASUS system drivers is an Intel Management Engine driver and this has been known to cause the behaviour you describe. You can temporarily disable it to see if it makes a difference. If it does you can try uninstalling it and allowing W10 to replace it with the generic driver from the Microsoft driver database.

I can't provide any guidance for your second issue, I use Edge and am growing to like it.

I just bought a Yoga 720, 13.3 inch from Amazon (USA) - i5, 256 gb SSD, 8 gb RAM.  Its a nice laptop but upon turning it on, the fan noise scared me completely. To add more to the woes, screen couldnt display white color properly. It would show an off white color/yellowish tint - I thought this is a defective one until i read it online that many are facing this issue. I diligently worked with Lenovo Customer Care ( slow and awful) and solved both of these issues in one click !  High Fan Noise: This problem is due to a default BIOS setting that Lenovo ships you with originally when you purchased the product ( go figure why !) Turn Laptop offLeft to the headphone jack is a small pin hole.Press the pin hole and it will show you 4 options. Click BIOSUnder the BIOS - select BIOS thermal temperature mode to " Quiet" Press F10 (save and exit)This will keep fan quiet and smooth ! It worked right away. You dont need to install TP Fan Control at all ! Coloration Issue: White color on screen display was looking off white/yellowish  Turn Laptop offLeft to the headphone jack is a small pin hole.Press the pin hole and it will show you 4 options. Click BIOSPress Fn key first and then F9 ( dont press both together)It will ask for optimal load defaults - select yes and press enterPress F10 (save and exit) You can perfom both the settings in one go while accessing the BIOS set up and not have to do it one by one.Restart the lapto... my yoga 900 would not power up.  research found that the issue is a conflict between malware and windows 10.  The recommended fix was to hold the unit horizontally and press on the power button.  it worked! Question is - has this happened to you, and if so, how often?

Hi everybody. This is just a public service message regarding an issue I've encountered. I've found that my Yoga 900 does not "wake up" after it has gone to sleep while connected to an external monitor. I'm connected to an HP 27VX monitor through a USB Type C to HDMI adapter. I found that my Yoga wakes up without issue if the display has turned off (power options turn off display settings) but it doesn't wake up if it goes to sleep when connected to the monitor. The issue though is not that it doesn't wake up, the issue is that for some reason when connected to the monitor it never truly goes to sleep (slow blinking white light). I think it gets hung up somehow when trying to go to sleep. When it enters this mode the power light is solid white and the only fix is to power cycle the Yoga. I'm not sure why it won't successfully go to sleep when connected to a monitor but my guess is some type of driver/hardware issue between the USB type C, HDMI adapter, and the monitor. I've verified that all works as intened when I'm not connected to the monitor. My workaround is to go to power options and turn my sleep option (when plugged in) to "Never". Not a solution by any means, just a workaround until all players involved (Lenovo, HP) figure out how to work with the new USB Type C port. Hope this helps. Rob

Has anybody else seen this or can you recreate the problem? The Sierra Wireless EM7455 LTE card keeps crashing the PC.  But exactly as follows..... You are connected to the internet using the EM7455.  You sleep the PC while connected.  You wake the PC.  EM7455 cannot connect again.  EM7455 is also lost from Device Manager.  A scan for new hardware just hangs and freezes the Device Manager window.  The only option is to restart the PC.  BUT...if you sleep or hibernate at this point (instead of restart) the PC crashes with BSOD (ntoskrnl.exe error).  This happens every time, without exception.  All the drivers are the latest, currently 7.44.4709.0102.  Firmware is 2.24.03.  I tried to upgrade to 2.24.05 from Sierra Wireless but it keeps reverting to 2.24.03 (must be a Lenovo OEM things that prevents the update).  Any ideas?  (apart from disconnecting before sleep!) Thanks

The Yoga 900s refuses to come back from sleep in 90% of the time. The power led is on but the screen stays black. I have to force shutdown and start the Yoga. After a couple of time doing this Windows will end up in KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE and than no longer boots. After doing a reset Windows works again for about 3 months and than the whole thing starts over. Latest drivers are installed .
