Windows Media Player 12 '500 - Internal server error'

Q: Windows Media Player 12 '500 - Internal server error'

I got a new Dell Inspiron 15 laptop with Windows 8.1 a week ago, and I'm having a problem with Windows Media Player 12. When I click on "find album info" I get the following message: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

It was working fine the first few days but the past couple of days I've been getting this message whenever I try to find album info. I was able to load close to 200gb worth of music before the problems started. I've been looking for a fix but have found nothing that works. Any suggestions or tips are appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Turns out it's a nationwide problem with WMP and you're definitely not the only person experiencing it. It's out of our control; hopefully Microsoft gets it under wraps soon. Check it out

I've got the windows media player 10, and recently I get the message internal error.
Can't eve open it.

Awhile back; about two weeks ago. I downloaded a registry program to clean up my computer, well I think I might of pushed the wrong button and all of a sudden I'm having all kinds of head aches, as I explained in one of the other forums.

Even further back I was trying to tweak things a little, and now Microsoft reminds me that I don't have a genuine windows but I do or did until I messed up so I can't get any help from them.

Ok, so I had a nasty virus on my computer that caused me to reinstall Windows XP Pro. After reinstalling, I had to run HiJack This in order to get rid of pop-ups, winnet, and comwiz.

However, since reinstalling XP Pro, Windows Media Player 9 will not work. The program will not even open. Everytime I click on it to open, I receive the message: "An Internal Application Error has Occurred" and that's it, nothing else. I click OK, and the program never loads.

I read through the other threads with the same problem, but nothing has worked. I cannot restore because since the reinstallation, WMP 9 has never worked. I tried uninstalling WMP, but it is virtually impossible. I tried reinstalling WMP, same problem arises.

What can I do in order to get WMP to work?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I tried to open windows media player and it is giving me an error message "an internal application error as occured" it doesn't tell me how to fix it so I googled it to see if I could find some answers. The microsoft website only gives one solution for this problem and it does not fit my problem. I can also not find the media player icon in my add and remove program folder but when I right click on the desk top ICON I can find the target and it shows that it is still installed on my computer but for some reason I can't get to it.

I was going to try to do a system restore but that does not seem to be working either, the system restore screen opens but it is blank.

So I guess I have two issues, if I need to list the system restore issue in a different forum, let me know but if someone out there can help me with both issues, I would be grateful.

Thank you

We are using OS Windows XP
The version of media player on the computer is 10 to the best of my knowledge (I did try to re-download it and it seemed to download okay but I get the same error)

I did everything I could like go where you uninstall programs and disable WMP and then re-enabling it, put the setting to automatic in the services.msg, EVERYTHING! I've had enough of this error, please, for the love of god, someone help me. I had some help from Microsoft but they told me to do a "blood test" or whatever and send them the logs and never got a reply back so they never helped me to fix it.

Trying to start Windows Media Player brings error message that"an internal applications error has occurred." wplayer2.exe is still able to play video and sound files (mp3), except when you try to play an audio cd (cda), it responds with an error message, 80040265,"Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported."

I've checked an error 80040265 through the MS knowledge base and, after suggesting that the media be checked as to whether it's supported or damaged, it advises removing and reinstalling WMP. First, since it's native to XP Home SP!, there is no remove button in control panel. Next, given this fact and the nature of the problem, what would I try to install over the present version, version 9 or 10?

Hi, I've been having some problems with my computer (Win XP home) and wondered if anyone could help out there.
A few weeks ago I left the computer downloading something pretty safe overnight (I've done it several times before) and when I came back in the morning some things were playing up. It doesn't seem to be a virus as the rest of the system is working OK and it doesn't show up on any scans. Most such as problems with the printer spoolers and IE I've managed to sort out but Windows Media Player is still giving me grief. I used to have wmp 10 but when I opened it it said the internal application error message, so I uninstalled it and rolled back to wmp 9. This worked for a while until then it started up the internal application error message. I've tried installing wmp 10 again many many times (including things to it that have been suggested in other forums like moving files to other directories) but it just fails claiming that "to update windows run windows media player 10 setup again". I've tried hundreds of fixes from various internet forums including re-regestring vbscript.dll and jscript.dll, uninstalling and reinstalling wmp via Add/Remove programs and even fiddling with the registry editor but none seem to work.
I've tried installing wmp 9 again but it just says "another newer version is already on your machine". I've tried uninstalling wmp completely by deleting the folder in program files but unsurpri... Read more

I had to do a system recovery on my PC. Got it back up, got the drivers I needed re-installed, updated the Microsoft software from the MS website etc..

I am using Windows XP Home Edition (SP2)
When I try to open Media Player (10) it gives me a message "An internal application error has occurred"
I went to Control Panel, Add/Remove Program, clicked show updates, Add/Remove Windows components and unclicked WMP to uninstall it.
Reinstalled it the same way and no difference.

Also found the advice on restoring the dll and it doesnt work!
Any help would be nice. I don't really want WMP 10 I prefer and want WMP 9 as it seems to work better. So how do I get rid of this endless loop that I have got myself into?

I did not reformat the drive when I did a recovery. (Non-destructive recovery is what I opted for) I am using an HP a1100y and have also found no help from their phone support and their website.

To fix this i tried upgrading to media player 10 the upgrade was successful bu using Media Player 10 resulted in Internal Application Error.

I tried deleting Player 1 and 10 Physically from the Folder in Program Files but as soon as they are deleted they are recreated, also if they are renamed they are recreated, the folder can not be deleted or renamed.

I have tried reinstalling Player 10 many times it works but i get internal application error when i try to run it.

I am using WMP 12, on Windows 7, as a media server for an external disk (WD Passport Ultra) plugged into and configured by my router (ZyXel VMG8924) via its USB slot. It works quite happily for video files up to two hierarchical levels below my Videos folder,
i.e. they are arranged in year number folders and some of those folders have sub-folders, none of whose contents appear to be indexed by WMP Digital Server, but all videos at the two higher hierarchical levels are. I have tried both the 'apply media information
changes' option from the Organize menu option, and the 'make all of the media in my library available to my device' from the media streaming options customization but neither had any effect in showing up my missing videos (which by the way are mainly mpg's).
The router also allows configuration of an ftp server for the Videos folder and this is able to retrieve every single file in it so I know they are accessible by this route. Any ideas?

Well, you have tried most of the things recommended. Have you run the System File Checker? This should restore original system files

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, a repair install should correct this

Repair Install

You have changed so much that you now have a different error, therefore I'd suggest one of the above. For future reference, while you had the original error, THIS may have worked as well.

I have Windows XP. I had to reboot my computer using the CD and I somehow reinstalled using the recovery disk. The problem I am now having is that I cannot get windows media player 10 to open. I have gotten several error messages. The first is Internal Application Error=80004001. I am also getting an error that states 0xc0000005 @)0x2515CF1E. I went to the microsft web site and it is advising that I may have a registery problem. I checked. regsvr32 jscript.dll and it says it was okay. I checked regsvr32 vbscript.dll and got a message that "Loadlibrary failed - The specified module could not be found." Microsft says to correct the problem, I should got to start, run, type in misconfing in open box, click expand file, and type the name of the file I want to restore (which I assume is regsvr32 vbscript.dll). Up to this point, I am ok. I just don't understand the next set of instructions which sates "in the file restore box, tyne the name of the file I want to restore and in the file restore box, type the path of the widows xp. cab where to restore the file or click Browse to the locate the Windows XP .cab file." It also notes that Windows XP .cab file are stored in the I386 folder of Windows XP. What does this mean? Can you break it down real simple for me? Is the internal application problem for the player really a registery problem? I have been trying to figure out what to do about ten hours. Please help. Thanks.

Until recently I was able to open asx files and play videos and stream with Windows Media. Now when I try to do this, it says that "Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct ..." This is happening on both my Dell Dimension 4600 desk PC (Windows XP Pro SP3) and my HP laptop with runs Vista. I usually use Firefox and have also tried it with Internet Explorer. As recommended by the Windows support site, I have gone to Now Playing -> More Options and then the Network tab (under WMP), everything is checked except "Use Ports" and I am doing the Autodetect for HTTP and RTSP. My husband has tried this on the computer at his workplace and it works. Somehow something has changed on our home computers so that we can't get this to work.

Things I have also tried but haven't worked:
I have uninstalled Windows Media Player and reinstalled it;
I have tried an earlier version of WMP, I think WMP 8.

By the way, I'm running WMP 11 as well as MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.8.3 (which I read I should run on some other forum).

I have also tried to play these files with RealPlayer and WinAmp. With Winamp is tries to load it and says, "New Track" and then says, "End of Playback". I haven't used RealPlayer or Winamp much so I don't know if they would have worked previously.

Any thoughts?

I'm running Windows 8 Pro - 64bit.  I have also installed Windows Media Center add-on.
Windows Media Player returns an error "Server Execution Failed" when attempting to load any non-music media file, such as .avi, .mp4, .wmv, etc.   These files open and play properly in the base Windows 8 "app" Video, and in Windows Media Center.

WMP opens OK from a desktop shortcut and updates it's music libraries.  It plays all types of audio-only media files properly.

I have tried all the various "fixes" for various versions of Windows and WMP including removing WMP as a feature, rebooting and "re-installing" it as a feature... I've run regserv.dll, etc. all to no avail...
I just want WMP to be the default "media" player for all standard file types...

Anyone have any suggestions... ?

Hi All, Just thought I'd share this useful piece of information. One of our clients had a strange problem on their domain controller.

Server Model: HP Proliant DL385

Event Viewer: source NetBt event id 4311 Description: Initialization failed because the driver device could not be created.

Ipoconfig results:
Windows Internal Error: The request is not supported. Contact Microsoft for product support. Unable to query DNS name

I have reinstalled / updated network card drivers. Updated firmware on both NICS. Disabled NIC Teaming. Replaced mainboard with onboard NICS. Reset winsock to reload tcp/ip suite.

Finally perused through microsoft updates and read that KB951746 and KB951748 is a security update for DNS and modifies many sock files. I uninstalled these 2 updates which was strangely timestamped as installed 2 months before the problem even occured.

The DC is back online, IPconfig is working, DNS, DHCP, and AD all okay.

A:Windows 2003 Server - ipconfig Windows Internal error

Interesting one, nice to know. I've seen this before though its usually related to RRAS, IPv6 or an interrupted update.

Maybe removing the updates just caused TPC/IP to be uninstalled and reinstalled in the background, or the stack to be reset. Which is one of the fixes for the error.

Though from the looks of it you've didi that anyway with no success, never heard of the update causing any problems but I'll be on the look out, cheers.

I purchased an argosy HV335T media player and a WD20EARS-00MVWB0 DATED 28AUG10 2TB internal hard drive to go in the media player. I have initialized and formatted the hard drive, but when I go to my computer, the hard drive isn't there. I can see the hard drive in device manager and disk manager. I am also able to eject the device and the computer makes a sound when I plug or unplug the drive from the USB. I am using windows 7 OS. What do I need to do, or read about, to get the hard drive to show up in my computer? Thank you for your time.

I have a problem opening any media file in any of the Media Players viz., RealOne Player build 6.0.11.868 or my Windows Media Player 10.
Whenever I open the above mentioned Media Players on my system, their interface opens up and after I open and select any media (usually audio) file, the player keeps on connecting to the file and takes more than 1 minute and above in opening and playing any valid and good media file, may it be a .wma or .mp3 audio file.
How to fasten the dead slow speed of the players?

PLEASE HELP!!!

are you trying to copy the movie on the hard disk for backup?

if you are trying to copy a dvd movie, that is illegal and this website cannot help with that.

play the .mpg files, not .vob

Reinstall WMP,open My Computer/program files/Windows Media Player and look for either a folder named Installer or an icon that looks like an open box with a page behind it named mpsetupxp. That is the Windows Media Player Installer.

Allright this is the error I get whenever I try to open up Windows Media Player

The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 8.0.0.4477 where 10.0.0.3802 was expected.
Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the player from the Microsoft website?

I've looked all over the web to find a solution but I can't find anything with my specific problem, and I don't know what to do. The only thing I can do as an alternative is type mplayer2.exe in Run Dialog Box. It opens up Windows Media Player 6.4.09.1120 and allows me to use it with no problems. It works but is an inconvenience, and I just want to solve the problem with the other so if anyone can give any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks In Advance Everyone

You had WoW running at the same time. I believe this will use up a lot of cpu resources. Try closing WoW and any other programs, and see if the problem clears up, if not reinstall WMP 10.

A:windows media player error

Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall Windows Media Player. this will roll WiMP back to the previous version. (ex) if you have WiMP 11 it will roll back to 10. Restart and try it again. If this fails, then uninstall with Revo Uninstaller. Be sure to do the Advanced Method and remove related files in the Registry. Restart the computer. Now you can download the latest version of WiMP for XP.
