Speakers aren't working for computer but sound works on the TV using HDMI cable

Q: Speakers aren't working for computer but sound works on the TV using HDMI cable

Previously, we could get the sound to work on our Bose speakers for our computer but no sound would come from the TV when we connected it to the PC with and HDMI cable. But now overnight, it's swapped; we can now get sound on the TV when we're using the HDMI cable but no sound is coming through on the speakers when we just want to watch/listen to thing on the PC.

Any ideas are suggestions are REALLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just installed a gigabyte hd4350 in my hp a1520n desktop bc it has an hdmi output. picture looks good, sound works, however when the hdmi cable is connected to the my samsung lcd tv, i get no sound through my computer speakers even when im not using the tv as a monitor or when the tv is turned off. i get sound through the tv though. when i unplug the hdmi cable from the tv, i get sound on the computer.

is there a fix for this? i have onboard sound enabled in the bios.

i have windows xp 32bit. in the sound and audio device properties, under the audio tab, default device, i see both realtek hd audio output and ati hd audio rear ouput when the hdmi cable is connected. when its not connected, just realtek hd audio is available.

i know i cannot have sound coming through the tv and computer speakers at the same time. is it possible for the sound to be switched back to the computer speakers when the tv is off WITHOUT having to unplug the hdmi cable that goes to the tv?

Weeell. Have you even tried setting the "Default audio playback device" (or whatever, in control panel->sounds->defaults tab to Realtek HD audio when the cable is plugged?

Hi

I have connect my laptop using an HDMI cable to my TV. And from my tv I have connected my two HiFi speakers. When the TV is on an AV channel I have sound coming from the TV and HiFi speakers but when I switch it to the HDMI source channel, sound only comes from the TV and not HiFi speakers.

This is frustrating because I want to watch movies on my TV through my laptop and get the feel of some surround sound through the HiFi speakers but it is not working!!!!

Please Help!

Thanks

A:No sound to HiFi speakers when HDMI Cable Connected

The problem is not your PC but your TV and how it handles HDMI audio. There is nothing we can do for this, it is strictly an issue with your TV and how it routes audio internally (or to external devices).

I've pluged a HDMI cable from my laptop into my TV and theres no sound coming from the TV just the laptop speakers. I've tried going into my control -> sound options -> playback -> and setting the HDMI output to default but still no luck, whats listed is :

Speakers
Realtek Digital Output (Optical)
Realtek HDMI Output
Digital Output device (HDMI)

and next to each one listed is like a sound meter, the only one thats active is the speakers at the top which im guessing is the laptop speakers.

I've just received my Laptop back from repair and all seems to be well, I had my screen panel replaced, gpu replaced(from 570m to 670m), new hard drive and CPU fan. However the problem I seem to be having is that internal speakers are completely not working.

I can see that bolume bar in for my internal speakers is actually changing but there is no sound. My system is not muted (unless there's some secret button I'm missing out on) No matter what i try it seems that sound will not work through my internal speakers, I've plugged in my Razer headset(Kraken) that works with my other computer but is not even detected when plugged in the Audio jacks of my laptop(Doesnt even pick up the microphone) and this did work before I sent it out for repair. Sound only works through HDMI output into a TV/Monitor.

Now I'm not sure if this some software configuration that I have to do or something physical with the hardware but I would prefer to not have to send it back as it would take a month to get back to me and also the repair company states that if the problem is due to software then they will charge.

I assume it's a conflict that Realtek HD audio manager is having or something but none of my devices show up on the RealtekHD Audio Manager nor do I get a pop up when a device is detected(which is what normally would of happened)

i thought i read somewhere that the Philips Ultimate Edge sound card is missing some kind of "patch cable for the s/pdif" or something like that, so i want to know if there is anyting that i need to buy to make sure that the S/pdif out on the sound card works, or if i need to buy another sound card or what... Just recently i updated my computer with the latest Windows 10 update. Was using windows 10 prior to the last update, just updated to current version. I have Numark NPM5 monitor speakers for my computer that i use for sound. When i turn on music after this last update, the speakers sound blown. I am using RCA to 3.5mm jack to plug them in and they have sounded great in the past. I tested to see if it was the speakers by plugging them into my phone and the quality is back to nonblown sound. I have tried using the sound manager and messing around with it a little bit but to no success. The speakers i use are these https://www.amazon.com/Numark-NPM5-Studio-Monitor-System/dp/B0038YX39A. Let me know if there are any further questions.

Yes. You need to post your exact system specs ie exact motherboard, exact sound card [if using a real sound card] etc, etc. If this is a big box system ie dell, hp, whatever, post the exact brand, model# and service tag#

Hello. This problem has been plaguing me all afternoon. I tried to update my chipset (I have an HP) as I've also been having problems with blue-screening related to my Nvidia drivers when I game, but that's another story. It said "system not compatible" and exited out. After that, I had no sound.

It says that my speakers aren't plugged in when they are.

I can't do the fix I found online that involved going into the Realtek HD Audio Manager and disabling something with the front jack, because there's no folder to click on in mine.

Other things I have tried:
System restore
Downloading different codecs
Uninstalling/reinstalling drivers multiple times
Switching jacks
And yes, I've made sure nothing is simply muted.

I've never upgraded my sound card and I did re-seat my graphics card a few days ago, but the sound worked perfectly, so I don't think that's it.

I'm not a tech noob, but I just can't figure this out. Any help would be excellent.

I have an ADC (or AOC, can't read the font) monitor with built in speakers. Today, they have suddenly stopped working. I checked all the sound controls, made sure everything was plugged in, and even restarted a few times. I also fiddled around with everything in between.

And yet, I still get no sound. I've learned that while im listening to music, if I turn my monitor off, I can catch a quick millisecond of sound from the speakers. The same also happens if I turn my monitor on, so I'm pretty sure nothing's truly broken. In any case, I'd reaaaally like some help on this problem, pleeease.

1) Can you try the speakers on another computer? They may be bad.

2) Try the front out to the surround speakers and see if they both work.

This should pin the problem down.

A:Monitor Wont detect HDMI Cable (Works With VGA)

Are the VGA and HDMI connectors both on the motherboard? Asking because they are on my system and I have to go into the BIOS to specifically enable the HDMI connector. That is because there is also a DVI connector, which is enabled by default, and I have to disable that to enable the HDMI connector.

If the connectors are on a video card, you should look in Control Panel, the Display section, and see if you have to enable/disable connectors there.

I have 2 monitors and an HP docking station on my desk.  Many times a day I have to undock and go to a conference room to run meetings. When using a projector, if I connect to my ZBook with the VGA cable I am able to duplicate perfectly.  I see the same thing on the projector screen as I see on my laptop screen.   But when I connect with an HDMI cable the projector screen acts as a second monitor and doesn't duplicate what's on my main screen.  I have to drag the file that I want to project off of my laptop screen and onto the projector screen.  So I'm not able to duplicate, but have to make any changes to the projected file while looking at the projector screen.   So the question is why is the VGA connection doing exactly what I want and the HDMI connection not?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

DV7-4060us

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

A:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

So I've got a problem,I changed my case 2 days ago and everything went great, all working as it should be.Up until an hour ago, when the lid got stuck in one of the little clips so after a quick bang it went in.But then I lost my picture on both monitors.
So I went to investigate,I ended up moving the GPU over to the other 16x slot and it is now fine.
but since then I've lost all sound through either the front or rear jacks,It is saying that the speakers are not connected.I've done all the usual checks,as in default devises, drivers.Everything I can think of I have done.I have tried a new cable, and tested through both of my phones and the speakers work fine.I've also tried a few sets of headphones in both jacks. There is a faint hiss sound when I turn the speakers on,that has just started.
I have managed to get sound through my tv via HDMI,but every time,I go into audio manager and lets say change from soft to hard,I loose the sound again, and have to set the HDMI as default again.this too has just started.
I'm using the on board realtek audio sound card ,on an Asus p8z77-lx motherboard.
Just a quick note when I plug in the jack, there is no beep and the pop up screen does not appear as normal.
To me it is pointing towards a motherboard problem, with the 2 problems happening together.Any help would be great.

A:No sound through speakers.Jack not being detected.HDMI sound only?

Hiyya Paul mate sounds like (no pun intended) that thump dislodged something on the board just carefully move the I/O output block and see if there is any movement, could be something a simple as dry joint but which is going to be hard to find and fix.

If you have some warranty and I know it is a PITA having to reef it all out again but.....

Personally I have the P8Z77-V and I just stuck an Asus Xonar DG card in the thing and there is no comparison really and you get one heck of a control centre. Not expensive I don't know about where you are but out here $35 so both my Ivy and Sandy Bridges have them.

That is the way it works. You can only have one "default playback device" - either your Speakers (PC sound) or the HDMI.

I've seen other posts about this, but don't recall seeing any way around this.

I took it to a local repair shop and they told me my Motherboard was fried out and they could fix it once they ordered a replacement part. I got the laptop back to find out the sound card wasn't working, I've tried everything possible to fix it but no luck. A few months later while taking an exam some of the keys stopped working, I was forced to use the on screen keyboard. It's been running slow for a while now and when I open a box on my deskstop the box is black with white text, sometimes I would have to highlight the inside of the box to read. I'm pretty sure it needs to be repaired again, the right way. I have an external monitor with no speakers I use as a dual display along with my laptop monitor. No sound comes out of my laptop speakers nor when I hook up external speakers to it while I have the external monitor hooked up by the HDMI cable. Is there anything I can do to get this to work?
Thanks,
Bill

A:HDMI monitor no speakers-no sound from anywhere when connected?

Right click on the volume control and then Properties,

When you connect the HDMI it becomes the default output device, even though it has no speakers.

You need to change this back to "Speakers" and set as default.

I'm having some trouble with my laptop's sound. Every few minutes, it sounds like the audio skips and buzzes for less than a second. It sounds like interference or something. I was certain it was a fault with the speakers, but the problem exists when listening on headphones and even on the TV connected through HDMI. Also, it happens in Windows Media Player, Adobe Flash, or anything that has audio. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

A:Sound Buzzing in Speakers/Headphones/HDMI

I'm still not having any luck. After doing some tests, I determined that the mouse and keyboard are affected too. Every 30 seconds, on the second, everything stutters for less than a second. In addition to the audio problems described, the keyboard stops taking input and the mouse automatically clicks a link if the cursor is hovered over it. Any ideas on what's going on?

Problem: AMD HDMI output would not play sound via HDMI cable to monitor speakers.

Testing the AMD HDMI sound output gave the following error message:

Device in use by another application?

This FIX worked for this hardware configuration.

? MSI motherboard
? Realtek Audio onboard (built into motherboard)
? AMD Video board installed withHDMI cable to monitor
? See how the Device Manager sound devices should look when correctly configured below.

Issue(s):

1. The Realtek HDMI Drivers had been assigned to the AMD HDMI card under Device Manager, Sound, Video and Game Controllers.

2. There are multiple hardware devices/drivers that are conflicting.

Actions Required:

1. There are 2 instances of the AMD HDMI card that should be shown under Device Manager.

2. You must uninstall the Realtek hardware and drivers so that only the AMD HDMI device is showing.

3. The AMD HDMI and Microsoft device drivers must be assigned to the AMD hardware.

How to fix:
1. Under the Device Manager sub-heading ?Audio inputs and outputs?
? AMD HDMI Output (High definition Audio device)
? Right click and select Properties, Driver, should show driver provided by: Microsoft

2. Under the heading ?Sound, Video and Game Controllers?
? AMD High definition audio device
? Right click on the device to display the menu window
? Select Properties, Driver tab
? Driver Provider should say: Advanced Micro Devices

I have the same issue in windows 10 home 64 bit-
HDMI monitor no speakers-no sound from anywhere when connected?

When I right click on the volume control, the options it shows are:
open volume control
playback devices
recording devices
sounds
volume control options

It does not give me a properties option.

Then I went to control panel and searched for sound. Then I saw the screen below. There was a Digital Audio as well and I clicked 'Don't use this device(disable)' on it by mistake and clicked OK.

Now, I only have Speakers option. How do I get the Digital Audio option back in here? I think that will solve my original problem.

Thanks

Hi.  Last week and prior mths HDMI connection worked, TV had sound.  This weekend, 8-20-16, TV sound went away but still had video.  Looked at forums, utube and did the control panel sound device manager.  the Digital Display Audio-AMD High Definition Audio Device; not plugged in is grayed out.  clicked on it to no avail.  the set default is also grayed out so i cant even set a default.  PC speakers do work.  bought a new HDMI cable but no change.  all the drivers are up to date.  not really sure what happened.  worked for months and now no sound.  any idea????

Hello, I just bought an HDMI cable to connect from my HP Pavilion x360 onto my TV. Unfortunately, I only get video on my TV but no audio. The audio only comes from my Pavilion x360. I am aware of right clicking the volume icon and clicking on "playback devices" to set defult the HDMI cable or TV. Unfortunaly, this is not visible even after enabling the disconnected and disabled devices. Please, anyone help so I can get the audio on my TV as well? I've let a screenshot. As a reminder, my HDMI is connected on both sides, and I have both disconnected and disabled devices visible. Thank you!
