I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Friends,

When I was moving some emails of sent item folder to a new created folder all my emails in my sent items disappeared.
I have outlook express 6 in windows XP.
I searched through your forums and find an instruction for this problem.

But in its instruction it says: "Locate the temporary location of the .dbx files on your Desktop, and then select the 2 files (Folders and Sent) that you want to import. (Hold down Left mouse button and drag over the 2 files to select both files). Outlook Express should begin to import the old mail and to create or to populate folders." but when I wanted to find the files from Desktop it only indicated Desktop and the folders and I couldn't locate the file and I couldn't finalized them matter.

I also tried another instruction in your forums : "Copy (do not move the file) and Paste the Restored Sent Items.dbx file into the Message Store, you should receive a prompt asking if you want to overwrite the file, select: Yes." but again when I did so didn't receive a prompt asking if I want to over write but instead making a copy of the file. Can you help me. I really need my emails of sent items. I should also say that I have the sent item folder in the message store with the volume of 2,097,099 KB.
Thank you for your kind help.

Some users I support (Office 2010) are coming across this issue while creating a meeting or new message, stepping away and returning to the message to receive the error-
"Changes made to the item were lost due to a reconnect to the server"

This forces them to close the message and redo everything and is causing quite an inconvenience.

I have tried reinstalling the nic/wifi drivers, changing the network provider order, cleaning tasks and free/busy, creating new outlook profiles and repairing office. Same result.

Any assistance or input is appreciated.

Are the Outlook clients connecting to an Exchange server, or to a POP or IMAP account like gmail? If it is an Exchange server, is it on premise or hosted somewhere else? Are the clients connected to a workgroup, a domain, or are the users working from home or remotely?

Hi
Can anyone tell me why suddenly in Outlook Express I can not open my Sent Items folder.

When I click on it I get the folder but it totally kills everything - I can't select anything and have no option but to close down Outlook Express to get out of it.

All my other folders work fine.

Admittedly there are 4000+ emails in there but it was like that before and worked fine until I did a bit of filing from there last week and now I can't access it at all.

Thanks
Louise

A:Outlook Express 5 Sent Item Folder causes complete failure

You could try the Detect and Repair option (thats if Outlooks Express 5 has it ) found usually at Help->Detect and Repair. Also, if outlook express 5 has it, try 'archiving' the sent folder, the Help file will tell you how to do it.

If that doesn't help, after going to the Microsoft website to check for updates and patchs for Office & Outlook, you could try a remove and reinstall, but remember to export all of your emails, accounts and settings so you won't lose all of your work!!!

Hope this helps a little,

Spu

In other words, you can't see all your personal folders or you can't see them correctly.

Go to Start-Find-files or folders and type in *.pst and look on your entire C: drive.

Then, in Outlook, hit File-Open, and make sure you've already got all these PSTs open.

It's probably my fault since most things are. Yesterday I had trouble sending email. I looked in the add-ins and saw the COM addin for Microsoft Hotmail connector. Well, I couldn't find where to delete it and so I went to c:\Progra~2\common~1\system\msmapi\msncon32.dll and deleted that. I did a bad thing, didn't I? This morning my Personal Folder in Outlook Contacts, is gone.

How can I get it back?

I did a system restore but the Personal Folder in Contacts Outlook 2007 is not there. The add-in is.

I'd try Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download - http://www.piriform.com/recuva .

I used it a day ago when I inadvertently hit the Delete button, rather than Rename on a file I wanted (I delete without using the Recycle Bin) and it worked perfectly, restored the file to original location.

To try the easiest thing first, in OE, select the Sent Items folder. Then up at the top click on View, point at Current View and make sure "Show All Messages" is checked. If it's not, click it to check it. See if the missing messages reappear.

A:Lost Delete Folder (dbx) in Outlook Express

If the delete folder was deleted don't worry about it, close out Outlook Express and restart it. It will recreate a new one.
EDIT

Just had another thought also. The properties on the file may have gotten changed to hidden in which case you will have to go into folder options and change it to show all files and then once it appears again right click on the file and change it on the file to archive instead of hidden.

Hi

Outlook stores its folders as DBX files, the path to them is

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, where xxxxxx is the name of the account.

Look there and see what folders are listed and the size, blank folders are usually 1k or 2k, folders with stuff in will be bigger, it may be a good idea to search other users outlook settings in case something went screwy with XP, a quick cut and paste of the folders into the right directory shoud resolve the issue.

However if you cant find any DBX files of the right size then there is a good chance that the mails are gone.

Hello,

I have a puzzler for the Outlook wizards. I'm wondering if somebody can help me recover my colleague's lost folders and messages. The short version is that I changed the Root Folder Path setting in Outlook 2013 for his IMAP account, resulting in the loss of several nested folders and contained messages that were apparently not synced by IMAP. Reverting the setting did not recover the folders/messages!

------- Long version ------------

Please bear with me on the explanation and please please do provide any relevant input that might help with this issue.

My colleague is using Outlook 2013 and had 2 IMAP accounts configured: 1 Gmail account and 1 other account (let's call it "Work"). At first, his issue was that several of his "Work" account folders nested under the Inbox were not syncing to his iPhone email client. I attempted to help by configuring IMAP folders in both applications.

The provider of the Work email specifies that the path for IMAP folders should be configured as "INBOX." Therefore I set this path on his iPhone and changed the Root Folder Path in Outlook 2013 for the Work account to the same, "INBOX".

Upon the change in Outlook 2013, his nested folders immediately disappeared, including all of the contained messages. I reverted the setting back to the default (blank), which restored only 1 folder with a handful of messages, one that apparently had been configured as an IMAP folder, but the rest of the folders were ... Hi all.

Usually when I double-click a folder icon, the same window is used to open it, which is exactly the way I want it (I have set the folder options to do this)

But occasionaly, it is desirable to open the folder contents in a new window. For this one has to start again from 'My Computer....'

Is there a registry hack that will add a 'Open in a new window' item to the folder context menu ?

Thanks!!

A:Adding an item to Folder context menu

• Open the registry editor and scroll to:

• Create a key under opennew named "command".

• Set the default value to "explorer.exe %1".

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, but really don't know where else to place it.

For some weeks (probably even longer) I am experiencing a really annoying issue. Whenever I create a new folder on one of my HDD's, SSD or partition it says "Cannot find item. This is no longer located in ... Verify the item's location and try again."

When I click retry it always works. At first I thought it was just one of my harddisks who was getting old, however it also happens on any partition on the SSD.

This only happens when I create folders. It doesn't happen when I create a new file (for example .txt document). At first I wasn't really annoyed, however I am now copying stuff from on partition to another and, well you can guess it, it complains about it on every folder it creates (for copying the files).

I have no clue what's wrong here. I doubt it's a hardware error. The Windows logfiles don't mention this. And, as I said above, there are no issues when I click retry. So in short; it asks every time to try again when I create a (new) folder.

I have experienced tons of weird stuff in my 28 year Windows experience, however this one is one of the strangest I have encountered. :|

Any ideas or solutions on how to fix this, other than reinstalling. Like I said before; it's nothing serious, but just something annoying.

Using Windows 7 with all latest mumbo jumbo and I always keep my computer clean by running defrags (only on HDD's), running CCleaner, run once a month ... Read more

A:Creating folder in W7 says cannot find item and works on retry.

Nobody has an idea on how to solve this issue?
FYI: I didn't have this before. Maybe it's a Windows update in the past 1 or 2 months?

Nevermind. I think I fixed it by applying the "fix" mentioned here: Renaming any folder produces "Could not find this item". - Microsoft Community

Maybe someone else might be interested in this as well. I have uploaded the fix for Windows 7 (x64 version only!) as an attachement. It fixes or makes the necessary changes in the registry.

I will reboot now and see if it indeeds keeps working, if so I won't be reporting back.

We have a user here running Office 2010 on Windows 7 Enterprise x64.

He's having issues when he tries to FORWARD an email that has pdf or excel attachment. This issue is seldom, occuring maybe 1 out of 10 times or so. When clicking send, he simply gets a "Cannot send this item." error message. I've done some research, and tried switching him over to Rich text when sending. This did not help. What is interesting, is that if he continues to try and send the message, it eventually sends. If I remove the attachment, the message also seems to send without any issues. If he copies and pastes the content into a new email, and drags the attachments over to the new email as well, it also sends. He has the latest updates with Office and Adobe Reader XI. Internet connection is fine. I've tried recreating his Outlook profile as well, with no luck. I haven't identified any issues with the users' signature or other sketchy text within the message.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Much exasperation here. All of a sudden last night, out of the blue, my Outlook 2010 no longer opens my email. Messages continue to arrive but every attempt to open them generates the message "Cannot Open the Item." I have no idea what is going on.

I can open these same messages in my iPhone without problem, but not in my laptop. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The only visual anomaly I can see is that some icon appears in the Sort By: Header Status column. I don't recognize the icon and don't recall ever seeing it before. Those messages without the icon can be opened. Those with this icon, which is every email received since last night, cannot be opened. I've attached a screenshot.

Hi ... I'm trying to help a 75 year old friend of mine with his computer problems. Gateway computer running XP OS. The first problem is: We drag a shortcut icon (Google) from the desktop to the quick launch tool bar. But, after a shutdown and restart, the item is no longer on the QL tool bar. There is no problem with the three items we added previously, Outlook Express, Desktop, Notepad. We have tried various combinations of locked and unlocked tool bar settings. We have made sure that the icon is not "hidden" on the other side of the dividing bar.
The second problem: On every boot up an open folder appears on the screen. The folder is named  C:\windows , and it is empty. We have tried entering System Configuration (msconfig) and looking for it in the startup tab. It isn't there. We don't know where else to look.

The second of your little problems - have you tried just right clicking on this folder icon and then clicking delete in the contextual menu that appears ? I can't think of an answer to your first one off-hand, I have always used icons on the desktop itself.

Howdy all,

We use Outlook 2007 SP2 as our email client running on XP Professional SP3. My boss has an interesting thing happening and I need some help correctly this. She used a 3 pane window configuration in Outlook. When she highlights an email (her highlight is cyan) in the inbox she can then read the message in her reading pane. If there is an attachment (usually PDF or Excel in her case) she clicks on it and the appropriate program opens, but when she closes that program and returns to Outlook, the highlighted feature (showing which email she's on in her inbox) is now gone. At first I thought the OS hadn't returned focus on the Outlook window, but that's not the case.

I went to my machine to see about replicating the issue. My cursor is charcoal and when I click on an attachment, the highlighting turns a lighter color of grey. When I return from the attachment, the highlight is still lighter until I click on that (or another) email -- then it turns back to charcoal.

I talked to my boss and she said it didn't used to do this and she didn't intentionally change anything. I looked at changing "selected items" in the Advanced Appearance (Desktop properties) box, but that doesn't seem to have any bearing on the Outlook situation. Does anyone know why this is doing this and how to correct it?

Thanks in advance!

All,

I am using a 3rd party program that attaches documents to e-mail and will use Outlook to send. I use the program to send myself an e-mail with a word document attached. I do receive the mail and there is an icon (paper clip) showing that there is an attachment. If I double-click on the e-mail I get this message:

"Can't open this item. Outlook cannot do this action on this type of attachment".

If I right-click the mail and choose "View Attachments", I see the document name that I chose in the 3rd party program and I chose it but receive this message: "The system cannot find the file specified."

I am able to open/view any other attachment that I receive from another e-mail address, it only fails when this 3rd party program attaches a document.

Do you think that this is a security setting somewhere? Any ideas?

Hello,

I have several Outlook 2000 users who are seeing intermittent Contacts being saved as private items, even when the appropriate checkbox is not selected. It is causing a problem, because delegates cannot edit those items. Has anyone seen this or know of a workaround?

Thanks in advance,

I just upgraded Outlook 2000 to 2002 and when I create a task and I insert an item as shortcut (an email) I can't open that shortcut. The shortcut icon appears on the Task windows but I can't open it. In 2000 I was able to do this.

Is there any new option in 2002 to enable this?

Thanks

A:Can't open inserted item on Outlook Task

Microsoft removed this feature starting with OL2002 due to security concerns. Instead of a shortcut, you would need to either copy of move the item to the task.

Hi,

I recently have an issue with one of my outlook 2007 users which the email in 'Inbox' which is older than one week will automatically be 'deleted'. I check in all the archives and find no place of existence. Do you guys have any idea of where those old email could have gone to? Or, why those email disappear?

Thank y'all in advance!

A:Outlook 2007 Inbox item disappeared!

ususim,

Where the messages have gone will depend on why the went away.

The first thinks I would check are the AutoArchive and the Rules settings in Outlook.

AutoArchive:
Right-click the Inbox folder and select Properties and click on the AutoArchive tab.
Is the AutoArchive setting enabled and set to delete or archive message older than a week?

Rules:
Go to Tools > Rules and Alerts
Is there any rule listed that would account for the messages being deleted or moved?

This is just an annoyance, not a real problem, but...

Since I've switched from XP to Windows 7, when I delete an open email in Outlook, the next item opens -- which is what I want to happen -- but focus passes to the main Outlook window.

Is there any way to keep the focus on the open emails?

Hi,

My sister's Win 98 PC running Outlook has a drop down box situated just to the right of Help on the Standard Buttons bar. When clicked, there is just an empty box.

That in itself isn't much of a problem but there is a run time error associated with it every time she opens Outlook.

I thought this was a relevant HJT line;

O16 - DPF: {C36112BF-2FA3-4694-8603-3B510EA3B465} (Lycos File Upload Component) - http://f008.mail.lycos.co.uk/app/up...ileUploader.cab

But having fixed it, the Outlook problem remains there.

Can it be gotten rid of, can Outlook be cleaned up of everything to do with Lycos?

Cheers in advance.

A:Ridiculous Lycos drop down menu item on Outlook

As an update, it is the following message that comes up as an error,

Run time error '459':
Object or class does not support the set of events

If anyone has any ideas or help, much appreciated.
Haven't found anything on the web under that criteria.
