Memory upgrade Thinkpad Yoga 11e Windows 8.1

Q: Memory upgrade Thinkpad Yoga 11e Windows 8.1

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM. According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb. I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb. I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen. Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade. I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

http://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_pdf/tp_11e_yoga11e_hmm_en_sp40f29949.pdfThis seems to say there's one stick of socketed RAM.The bottom cover and the memory module are both marked as "optional-service CRU", so you won't really void warranty by replacing it yourself. The required RAM specification is this: PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM. Just find an 8GB stick with those specs.

I recently purchased a Yoga 11e 20d9 model and so far I'm loving it.  However, I wanted to upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb.  I purchased Crucial 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) as all the reviews I read said this was okay to use, however, everytime I install the memory and I try to charge the laptop at the same time it crashes.  I can run windows 10 perfectly without issue up until I try to charge it.  I can charge ther laptop when the laptop is off but for the life of me I can't get it to coexist.  I installed the original ram and everything works perfectly.   Even if I'm in bios, as soon as I plug in the charger the laptop will crash.  It literally has rips on the screen and everything fades out.  As soon as I unplug it, the laptop works flawlessly.   I returned the memory and got a replacement and it does the same exact thing.  I updated both the BIOS and battery firmware.  I am out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Hello. I'm having a substandard issue with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop that I will try to explain in complete detail. First I'll summarize what's going on, then I'll list all  the details that could be related to this problem, no matter how small, in order of most likely related to least likely related. I'm an IT technician so I have some grasp of computer troubleshooting, just keep in mind. Alright, so the issue is that my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (can't find exact model, label only days Yoga and its dated in 2013) will not boot into Windows 10 after I have done an upgrade from Windows 8.1 using Microsoft's media creation tool. More specifically, I was able to do the firat time setup and boot on once but after searching for Windows updates and restarting, the computer will not boot on. The most likely reason for this I believe is that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD with Windows 10 on it. It can detect it in some ways but not others. In Lenovo diagnostics I'm not able to run a storage test, which is an option I know is usually there because I've troubleshooted these before, which leads me to believe it doesn't recognize it. However, boot menu and BIOS recognize the drive. Attempting to boot to it from boot menu gives a long black screen and then it takes me back to boot menu. Letting my computer boot up normally also gives a long black screen after the ThinkPad logo and the automatically goes to boot menu. The other diagnostics for Lenovo hardware all pass. So some... Hi Im considering buying a TY260, with the number20FES0DT00 Is it possible to upgrade the RAM to 16gb (as it currently has 4gb) and the ssd? I remember seeing somewhere that there was an issue with RAM soldered to the unit, is this true? Many thanks

A:Thinkpad Yoga 260 - upgrade

The SSD can be upgraded.  I have a ThinkPad Yoga 260 that I upgraded to 16GB, but there are complications.  I believe that there was difficulty with interference from WWAN antennas and RAM modules, so the models that come with the antenna wires have soldered RAM.  It looks to me like that model doesn't have WWAN so I would guess it has socketed RAM, but I have no way to be sure without looking inside.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga with a dead mainboard. My ThinkPad is the i5-4200U / 4GB model, and the mainboard says 'LA-A341P' on it. I've found a replacement mainboard online, with part number 03X5234. However, I have also found what appears to be the next model up from my board - an i7-4600U / 8GB model, part number 04X5478. Will the better model work in my laptop? Or should I play it safe and just buy the weaker one?

A:ThinkPad Yoga S1 Mainboard Upgrade

Depends what you want... I actually want an i5 in my laptop because the i7 is overkill. In my case I also have a desktop PC with an i7 for doing video processing... So, I would prefer a less powerful chip to carry around with better battery life, less fan noise, etc. Rather than replace your system board with an i7, why not get yourself a whole new i7 gaming laptop for $200 from China if that is what you need?  If you have a read of the hardware maintenance manual there appears to be no difference between any of the system boards with regards to installation, so really it is your choice as to what tradeoff between portability and power you want to make. Usually the i7 boards are a bit more expensive... https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40a26742_01.pdf

Dear all, I would like to upgrade the touchscreen on the Thinkpad Yoga 260 - I have the 1366x768 model (a long and annoying story!) and I really want the 1080 screen - for obvious reasons. I am relatively technically competent (I'm a tinkerer) and have carried out these sorts of procedures on other laptops in the past. Which brings me to my question... Having upgraded the screen on a T450 and run into the problem of the display driver not accepting the new screen (some issue relating to EDIDs, or something like that) (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/3t3z1d/lenovo_t450_lcd_replacement_cant_change_brightness... Am I going to encounter the same problem with the Yoga 260? Or potentially worse given that there are touch-screen issues involved too? Looking around at replacement panel assemblies they instruct not to use if the present resolution is wrong (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-5-FHD-LCD-LED-Touch-Screen-Assembly-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga-260-1920X1...) - it is just these particular panels, or am I screwed? Any success stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Hello all,For quite a while now, I've been looking to upgrade my SSD in my X1 Yoga.  As you may know, the X1 Yoga was available with either a SATA-based SSD or a PCIe-based SSD (NVMe).  Unfortunately, information about compatibility isn't easy to come by.  In fact, I never found a concrete answer to the question I have been asking all along:  Can an X1 Yoga (i5-6200U model) ordered with a SATA-based SSD be upgraded to an NVMe drive?  I found a lot of 'No' answers online, but with no proof of that actually being the case.  The only cases I found of people upgrading their SSDs were folks with the i7 system boards.  A few people have mentioned that Lenovo's official answer (when they asked) about the matter is that when you order it with a SATA SSD, you cannot upgrade to an NVMe drive.   I didn't want to believe that they'd have a different part number for an i5-6200U board w/ 8 GB RAM for an SATA-based system versus an NVMe system.  The slot physically accepts an M-keyed NVMe drive, despite the SSD in there being a B+M keyed drive.  The BIOS also has a boot option for an NVMe drive.   So, I took the plunge (and risk) and bought an NVMe drive, and am very pleased to report that it works just fine!  There was no drama.  The only thing I had to do was to change the boot option to boot from the NVMe disk instead of the built-in SATA one.   I can't speak for the newer models, but mine (20FQ, i5... hello, I hope this is the right place to ask some Q about the IBM thinkpad G40 .. My son bought a second hand G40 some years back. It had/has only 256M memory. Now I want to upgrade the memory and I scanned the relevant web pages of Lenovo. Apparently the memory should be PC2100 or maybe PC2700 becasue of PC2100 availability ? (DDR)Now a cpu-z run on that laptop says the memory is PC2300 (142Mhz) so what gives ? Has this been put in to be on the safe side or ?and an additional Q .. can memory modules be mixed ? ie can I add a 512M PC2100 sodimm to get 768M ? or do I need to remove the original 256M and go for 2x 512M ?TIAImbsysop

Welcome to the forum! Your machine can run PC2100/2700 memory, and you can combine it, it will always run at PC2100 speed regardless of anything else. It can be mixed, no questions asked. If the G40 is Celeron powered, it will take up to 1Gb (2x512Mb) of RAM. If it's Pentium 4-powered, you can install up to 2Gb of RAM. Hope this helps.

Howdy All! I just ordered a Thinkpad P70 with a XEON 1505-M processor. It comes with one 16gb ECC memory module. I want to add 3 more and when I checked Crucial.com's memory upgrade options, it only list 1x16GB NON-ECC memory modules! So two questions: 1) Can I mix the 1x16GB ECC memory module with 3 NON-ECC 1x16 modules? 2) How hard is it to install memory in the P70? Since non-ECC modules are only slightly cheaper I would not recommend it. About 2: for the P50 it is a piece of cake to install memory, it should be no different on the P70.  As for memory: Lenovo currently uses Samsung modules. So if you want to go for the same 16GB ECC modules check for M474A2K43BB1-CPB. I do not know about Cruicial, but at least Transcend also got 16GB ECC modules (check for TS2GSH72V1B). I cannot say anything about the Transcend modules, but I installed two of the 16GB Samsung modules (besides the 8GB module that was already in) in my P50 had no problem so far (even checked with Memtest86+ for a whole night). Cubbi

Currently I am trying to upgrade memory modules on my ThinkPad P51 of type 20HH. It was planned to have maximum, i.e. 64 GB, instead of original 8 GB. After some research four of Crucial 16 GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM CT16G4SFD824A have been obtained. With absolutely no problems two of them have been inserted in slots under the bottom cover. On that stage the laptop starts up and works perfectly with total 40 GB of RAM consisted of new 32 GB and original 8 GB. However, after adding a new memory module under the keyboard and/or replacing original 8 GB memory module with new 16 GB, and/or even putting original 8 GB memory module in the neighbouring slot, the laptop doesn't start up. Several attempts have been done to solve this problem, i.e. BIOS has been updated to 1.47 version, CMOS battery has been removed and returned back to its place, SSD drive has been removed and returned back to its place, the laptop has been turned on with a battery only, with AC power adapter only and with both of them. Nothing of the listed above helped to solve a problem. Did someone face the same problem? Is there a solution for it?

I know that the L520 allows a maximum memory of 8 GB. Do I have to use each slot to get maximun memory (4 + 4) or can I install a single 8 GB stick into a single slot and leave the other empty? If I can use the 8 + 0 method, does it make any difference as to which slot I install the stick? Additionally, does it make any difference in speed if I use the PC3-10600 memory or PC-12800 memory? i7 - 2620M processor

Generally speaking it's better to have two sticks for dual channel, 2x 4GB should be better than 1x 8GB. Although the difference may not be so noticeable in normal daily usage.

Hi gbanina,I have the same problem when trying to use the same Kingston memory with my T510.Do you know to tell now whether this memory is not compatible with the T510 or it was just a bad memory card? Thanks!

Hi all, My Lenovo G575 is a few years old, but still works. I have only 1 RAM memory slot soldered onto motherboard. Windows 10 is installed, but quite slow on the internet. Can i upgrade RAM memory from 4gb 1066 speed to one single 8gb card? will it use 8gb or just 4gb? Any options to make internet faster, as i do have BT Fibre and only a few metres from router? Thanks all.

From the parts list of the Maintenance Manual - your computer will only accept 4gb modules.  If you only have one socket on the motherboard, you are limited to a single 4gb stick.  Usually the system has the option for two memory modules, so I would suggest contacting Lenovo support by phone to discuss this situation.

Cheers.

Hi all, Just bought brand new Thinkpad P51 (20hh0014rt). All latest software updates installed. Now I'm trying to upgrade memory and installing Kingston HyperX HX424S14IBK2/32 kit of 2 x 16Gb in two the slots under the bottom cover - my notebook doesn't boot in this configuration (I press ON button, I can see power LED is on and hear the cooling system, but nothing happens...)When I remove this two memory modules - notebook bootup without problems. This modules are ok at 200% - I'm writing this right now at my Thinkpad P470 with both those modules installed. Is there any way of how I can use this memory with my P51? Thanks!

Hi This is my first post to the forum. Regrettably I must start with a problem. Following suggestions on this forum I decided to upgrade RAM in my X200 to 8 GB. I bought 2 4GB chips branded by G.Skill http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c11d-8gsl I was very disappointed to find the memory doesn't work. The machine won't start (black screen) with several pipping sounds.I suppose they mean DIMM problem. When I replaced the original memory chips everything is normal. Is this at all impossible and I should go for another memory ?Could possibly BIOS upgrade help ? I'd be very grateful for any comments and suggestions. Cheers,Chris

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately X200's are very picky with DDR3-12800 (DDR3-1600) like the ones you bought.

I would advice to buy DDR3-10600 (DDR3-1333) or DDR3-8500 (DDR3-1066) RAM. I would also recommend you to avoid the "Value RAM" line from Kingston, the "Value Select" line from Corsair (other lines from those brands are ok) and any no-name brand from eBay and similar shops.

This morning I received my order for new memory for my laptop and after getting all excited... it didn't work   Old memory was: 1x HMT41GS6AFR8ANew memory is: 2x KVR16LSE11/8 I tried all combinations (new banks alone, 2gether with old, different slot, etc), it just never boots (no BIOS screen, nothing). I this topic: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-S540-RAM-Upgrade/td-p/1542834 I read:Your system will support DDR3 PC3-12800 & DDR3 PC3-14900 DDR3 (non-ECC), as your system was shipped with DDR3 PC3-12800, I suggest you to go for the same. You can check with 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM.

I was wondering whether somebody could shed some light on this issue. I am (as many more I guess) suffering from memory shortcut on my S440. Now I just stumbled uppon a new upgrade option from Curcial:http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct204864bf160b Is this module compatible with a S440 i7 4500u? BIOS might be an issue as far as I read.

A:Thinkpad S440 16GB memory upgrade

No,  It won't work and the problem isn't the BIOS or a Lenovo limitation.  You have a 4th gen CPU  i7-4500u.  The 16GB modules only work on 5th gen or later

Hey Lenovo Enthusiasts! I am about to purchase the Lenovo Thinkpad 550s, and I am tempted to purchase the baseline memory (4GB) and storage (512GB) HDD.  I want to make sure that I can indeed upgrade the memory to 16GB of RAM and the storage to a 256 (or 512) GB SSD. In my research earlier on, I noticed that somebody had posted a link to the parts list:https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w550s_frubom_20150130.pdf I don't know what half of this technical jargon is, but from what I gather, I have found an SSD made by Samsung on Amazon, and an 8GB memory made by Data Memory Systems that seem to abide. SSD:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE256BW/dp/B00LMXBOP4 Memory:http://www.datamemorysystems.com/parts/lenovo/03X6657/ Questions:1) Could somebody wiser than me please verify that these products will work for the w550s? I was going to purchase them from Crucial, as they say that is is "100% compatible" but I am not sure still.Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkpad-w550s 2) In regards to the warranty, does anyone know if I were to mess up the data preloaded on the HDD that is put in the laptop, by trying to transfer it to the SSD, would the warranty cover fixing this? Kind regards,Spencer

A:Lenovo Thinkpad W550s Memory upgrade to 16GB and S...

Very disappointing. Yes, I have the same problem (son, since it is your problem!). I note that over 189 people have at least looked at this question you asked before we decided to have you purchase the W550S...and after calling tech support one last time after my son purchased the machine (and was told there should be no issue)-we see BSOD multiple times within an hour.  They happen so quickly that it is hard to even note what the error message is.... I replaced his 512 HD with Samsung SSD 512GB drive. I used a disk duplicator-everything seemed to go great. Then I put in 16GB of RAM-again, everything seemed great. However, the notebook is only now being used frequently as my son is starting school now-and as said above, the BSOD is making me think this has something to do with the SSD or RAM replacement. Yes, obviously, it's fairly easy to replace with the original parts and see if the problem goes away-but he wanted the SSD and more RAM, so even if that fixes the issue-we will likely get rid of the notebook. BUT:  here is what disappoints me:  absolutely no comment on my son's original questions. I'm guessing I won't get input from Lenovo either....will try to call tomorrow, but we are almost beyond the point where we need to return the SSD/RAM and notebook if we want our money back. A little guidance from Lenovo would be appreicated before we need to make a decision.. Thanks,Steve
