Can this gentille spirit RELOAD WINDOWS without blowing up the house???

Q: Can this gentille spirit RELOAD WINDOWS without blowing up the house???

Here's the bottom line: I have an HP PAVILION 505n and use XP. The past few months, my speed to move from one site to another, or even to fill our forms on certain websites, has gotten slower and SLOWER and S-L-O-W-E-R. I've already defraged and stopped certain programs from opening up and done my anti-virus and antispyware....you name it, NOTHING helps.

SO.....my brilliant son who lives far far away tells me that he's sure I need to reload my windows. But he says this: You lose every setting you have, you have to reset everything, reinstall everything from scratch, reenter usernames and passwords, back up all your critical data and files (and i know you have no idea where most of this stuff is located so you'd likely lose a lot if you weren't careful). This isn't a decision someone like you can take lightly.

Oh gee. I'm thrilled.

SOOOO, can I really do this on my own?? IS THERE A STEP-BY-STEP instruction page somewhere, just as step-by-step as a recipe for a great dish?? Or am I doomed here?

Preferred Solution: Can this gentille spirit RELOAD WINDOWS without blowing up the house???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone,
Over the past few months, my install of Vista Ultimate upgrade has gotten steadily quirkier. Windows Mail (I hate it) will not properly delete e-mails. My DVD drives have disappeared and Vista will not find them. IE7 will not connect to the Internet but Firefox does. Installation problems with new programs, etc., etc. It is pissing me off and I just want a fresh start and reload Vista but I don't want the headache of having to format my drive, reload XP (which was also an upgrade), then reload Vista. Is there an easier way? If someone knows, please post and I will grant 1,000 kudos! Thanks to anyone that can help.

A:Is there a way to reload Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade without having to reload XP?

friends this is an old problem but wondering if someone can quickly school me on how to PERMANENTLY resolve.
Windows xp pro and Home are good stable animals that handle all sorts of USB devices pretty well.
XP Media Center Edition does not. this Dell Dimension has XP MCE SP3, all updated [not that updates were ever great with the Media Ctr version] - it still gags on just about anything plugged in - wanting to reinstall drivers for things it has already mounted in previous sessions. I am guessing this is a registry problem? i.e. the drivers are in the right place [i guess] in the windows system32 folder but the registry isn't carrying the right pointers?

what's the permanent fix?

Hey guys, I need help modifying my network/internet setup at my house and guesthouse. This is how my current setup looks like. Main house has the DSL(dynamic IP) modem, connected to a Netgear WGR614 wireless G router(DHCP) 1 laptop connects via wireless to that, and a cat 5 wire going from one of the ports to the guesthouse bedroom in wall plug, and connected to it is a Dlink Dir-625 wireless n router. I have 2 computers connected to the router wirelessly. With this setup my Internet connection is inconsistent in the guesthouse. And recently I bought a Denon AVR-3808 Audio receiver in the living room that needs to be connected to the internet via Ethernet wire., and I don?t have access to that. Let me give you more info on the Distance between the farthest point of the guesthouse, and the position of the modem and wireless router is in the main house. It?s about 60-75ft, 5 walls in between, and 2 of the walls would be the outside stucco walls?? I need suggestions on how to do this the right way. My Denon audio receiver is the only equipment that need to connect to the Internet via Ethernet cable, and I don?t have access to that??

Thank you in advance

A:Network/internet setup between my house and the guest house

First off, get stability from Main to Guest by using wired access. If this is not stable,
then the wireless will not be either. Update the Netgear WGR614 firmware.

Wireless will bog down when it is encrypted, but you need that to avoid your neighbors
from getting access to your systems.

Which location (Main/Guest) has the worse reliability issue?

Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of this old (1999) Microprose/Broadsword motor racing game?

Our computer spec is adequate and we have had it running fine before but, since we uninstalled and then reinstalled it, it won't run past the introductory sequence but reverts back to the Desktop.

I have used jv16 to get rid of any left over Registry stuff and can't think what else to try. The support website, unsurprisingly, no longer works.

A:Spirit of Speed 1937

Never even heard of the game....but are you running Windows XP? If so, have you tried running it in compatability mode?

Has anyone got any experience of this old, (1999), driving game by Microprose/Hasbro?.

We had it working well once and uninstalled it. When reinstalled it will go through the intro sequence and then crash back to the Desktop. The uninstall was done via Norton Cleansweep and we used Reg Cleaner to get rid of any leftovers.

This is an old computer with AMD K62 450Mhz, 128MB and 13 GB HDD with lots of room. Sound and graphics are onboard and 8MB of memory is assigned to graphics. This specification may be at the lowest limit for this game but it did work OK previously.

Lots of stuff has been updated or installed/uninstalled since the last time this game ran successfully so I can't put this comp back into the state it was in at that time. One thing that hasn't been changed (as far as I know) is sound or graphics drivers.

I run up to date AV and anti trojan and use a firewall and anti spyware program so any settings that have changed will be the result of other program installs/uninstalls.

A:Spirit of Speed 1937

Forgot to mention that we have Win 98, Direct X 8.1 and IE 5.5 SP2, if that matters.

I have tried the general troubleshooting hints from the Microprose (now Infogrames) website, such as lowering hardware acceleration and turning off all other running programs, but they didn't help.

Unfortunately, the site has no specific help for this game, which suggests to me that any support was discontinued before the original authors of the game were acquired by or merged into Infogrames.

We bought this game for very little money so, as my end qoute suggests, 'it doesn't matter very much' its just annoying that it did work once and doesn't now!.

I know this is going to sound awful but get your OWN internet connection. The distance is too great for a wireless network and probably wouldn't work terribly well by hardwiring it (and that's assuming you can get past the physical problems of installing the cable externally). You may be able to use a powerline network connection (not sure if these will work on an extended intranet) but the setup costs are still pretty high for now.

Really - fork out the few dollars that a internet connection of your own will cost. Much better proposition all round.

I've had craving to play Starcraft, I pop the CD into the PC and run the game.
Than something, that never happened before happens:
While the game runs as usual, from the left edge of the screen to the middle black lines and squares begin to appear, flickering, pissing the hell out of me. I can't really play the game, because half of the screen is being assaulted by black lines that flicker and jump up and down.
Attempted to reinstall the game, but no dice, same issue.

As a note, I did not make any software nor hardware changes since the last time I played the game.

Any advice?

I downloaded the Grissom House from TheSimsZone.co.uk, it's lovely in the picture, yet when I install it and run the game and click on it to put it in the neighborhood, it freezes the game.

I erased all the files of the Grissom House I could find in My Documents/EA Game/The Sims ... But the house still shows up in the Lots and Houses Bin. In fact, there's two copies in it right now.

Basically, this question is just for vanity purposes: Is there any way I can get rid of the 2 copies in the Lots and Houses Bin without having to click the house and manually delete it, seeing as how the game freeze when I click on either copy.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 6000 in September for my son. He used it at college, doing all the downloading that college kids do, and suddenly the computer was spontaneously rebooting and or going to a blue screen. He did have McAffee antivirus software running or so he says. Anyway to make a long story short, he attempted to reload Windows, repartioned, but when loading WIndows it would also reboot to a black screen. It shows an error so briefly then goes to reboot.

I have spent countless hours on the phone with Dell, sent the system back to Dell to be checked, just received it back with the note that they replaced the system board and updated the BIOS. Tried to reload Windows and same problem.

Is this a deeply inbedded virus that won't let me reload Windows or is it still a hardware problem? HELP!

I have what I consider to be a new problem for me, I want to reload XP but the machine will not boot from the CD-Rom. I have been into the bios and setup it to read the CD first but it still doesn't read the cd and reads from the hard drive.I have changed the drive for another and still have the same problem. I have tried my original XP cd and still the problem occurs. If I ask it to read from the floppy first that works OK.I have removed the bios battery to reset the BIOS but to no avail.
Has anyone any suggestions as to what is going on?

The reason I want to reload windows is because it wont sign on to windows, it gets to the log on page and if I try to sign on with any of the names it momentarily flashes up the desktop and then signs off again, this also happens in safe mode also if I try to sign on as administrator, it seems stuck in this pattern whatever I try and do.

A:Reload of Windows Xp

I finally got it sorted. Although I removed the cmos battery to reset the BIOS it obviously didn't work because I finally found a manual for the board on the Intel website and reset the BIOS with the jumper. This seemed to cure the problem, thanks for your help.

So I just got my computer to a point where I have regained control of it, and would now like to do a clean install of Windows 7 (64 bit Home Premium).

Here's my issue:

1.) I have a Windows Vista CD Key, and a Windows 7 Upgrade Option CD Key
2.) I DO NOT have a Windows Vista Install CD, only some recovery tool from the computer supplier, which did help, but I do not seem to be able to re-load Vista and reformat my drive with this disk.

I am not computer illiterate, but after a full day of reading up on this issue, I'm stumped.

Microsoft is very blunt about me needing to reinstall Vista before my upgrade CD can come into play.

I have the Vista CD key on the side of my tower, but I don't have the disk to install Vista.

Catch 22.

Any suggestions as to how I get from Point A to the Point B with the tools I have? It would be ideal to just download and burn a Vista installation CD, and use the code I have, but frankly, I'm not sure that's legal or safe.

Any help the forums can provide is greatly appreciated.

A:How do I reload Windows 7 with what I have to work with?

Boot the latest official installer for your licensed version provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and follow those steps to get a perfect reinstall.

The installer will see an OS on the HD - even if you go on to correctly delete all partitions and create new as you wish in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7 - allowing use of the Upgrade version key during install. If not, leave the key blank and afterwards do the quick registry workaround Option 3 found in Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version to activate Upgrade version on a blank or wiped HD.

Have your network driver in the backup so you can get online if its not provided by installer, then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

After Microsoft cleaned a mail worm from my computer, they told me my Windows 7 Ultimate (bought innocently on Amazon) was an illegal copy and functionality has been affected. So I bought a new W7 copy, but after inserting the disk discovered it was the upgrade version, not the full programme. The company will not refund or exchange it because the pack has been opened, but suggested loading XP or Vista on my computer, then applying the upgrade.

Inserting an XP disk resulted in a flag up telling me the programme was blocked because a newer version of Windows had been detected.

Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do, safely, without losing any data, or must I bite the bullet and go buy another copy of W7? All expert advice welcomed.

A:Windows 7 reload problem.

To upgrade from XP you still need the full install of Win 7. You can install Vista and then upgrade but if you don't own a copy of Vista you will still need to buy a full copy of Win 7.

I've had W7 since the day it was released. It's been running fine since day one but I have accumulated quite a few programs over the last 2 years. I've downloaded and installed and uninstalled countless programs. I've saved every email I've ever sent since Feb 2007. If someone were to make my computer into a TV show it would be called "The Horder". Anyway, I decided today was the day that I needed to wipe everything clean and start with a nice new clean install of the OS and then only load the programs that I use on a fairly regular basis. I started at 8am and it;s now past 9:30pm. I've only stopped for lunch and dinner and I still have a few more tweaks to apply. I now know why so many groan at the thought of having to redo their OS. To my credit I have to say that even thought my OS seemed to be overcrowded with programs and stuff I really haven't noticed much of a speed increase so far with everything redone. Some advice to anyone who is thinking of doing the same: Backup all of your stuff and then back it up again because there'll be something you've forgotten.

A:Can I Reload Windows W/ Someone Else's Disc?

You could try a Dell (or other) disk but it probably won't work. You'll need to use the same version (Home or Pro).

The reason probably won't work is that the hardware drivers won't match your machine. However, after the install you might just be able to boot into Safe Mode, and if you can get that far you can then update the drivers for the ones that match your machine.

I am having tons of trouble with my computer. I reloaded Windows 7 and all the drivers about 3 weeks ago, but I'm not sure I did things in the correct order. Plus my laptop is at least 4 years old so I'm sure the drivers that came on a disk from Dell are quite old. I would like to try starting over once more. Could you tell me the exact order to load the drivers after I've reinstalled Windows 7? Also, should I use the drivers from the Dell CD and THEN do updates to them? In the past, I've not had good luck finding the correct updates. I've also tried Driver Mender and that was a failure. It found things "outdated" and when it tried to update them, a message came back that my current version was newer than the one they wanted to install. After I got one update to work, I had to reboot and my computer wouldn't start. It finally popped up with a message asking if I wanted to repair the computer start up by using System Restore and using a previous time/date. I know - it's time for a new computer, but I'm not a quitter and want to try this one more time. Santa may be bringing me a new laptop for Christmas, but I don't want to count on that. I'd like to get this old laptop working better.

A:Reload Windows 7 and all drivers

Hi, you should only use drivers from the Dell support site for your model laptop enter the service tag here Support | Dell US it will be on the underside of your laptop. Do not use driver updater or any other driver package. Laptops are not like desktop/tower systems and many makers modify drivers to work with their hardware, so updates are not done often and in some cases at all. You want to install drivers starting with the chipset then audio, video, lan/ethernet (network) then wifi followed by any others.

If it's not seen in BIOS, it's a hardware issue.

I was thinking that the graphics card was bad, so I replaced that with a better card and the problems still exists. I was told to purchase registry cleaner software and that did not stop the problem. So I'm going to clean the hard drive and re-load Windows XP Media Edition. I only have the Dell OEM CD and I'm wondering about the age of this software. Does Microsoft offer a newer better version of Windows XP Media Center? Is there a Windows XP Pro that contains Media Center?

Hello Walt. I have a Dell XPS 400 with Media Center Edition 2005 with XP Pro. It will be 2 yrs. old next month. Microsoft doesn't have a newer or better version to my knowledge. If you have the Dell orange disk labeled Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2 it is the newest version and it has XP Pro.

My computer crashed and and would loop upon restarting. I took it in to have it looked at and they said it was the hard drive. I replaced the hard drive but get the blue screen during the reload process. The message says: Problem caused by the following file: setupdd.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
The Technical info is:
***stop: 0x00000050 (0xe533cd68, 0x00000000, 0xf7417e4c, 0x00000002)
***setupdd.sys - address f7417e4c base at f73f3000, datestamp 3b7d8507

I originally had a 250 gig Hard drive when they said it was bad and now have a 1 tb wd caviar black hard drive installed.

Thank you for any help.

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

I am trying to reload a fresh copy of Win XP Pro SP2 and I've tried completely reformatting the drive and when that didn't work I tried a quick format, but it gets through the formatting and copying files without any errors but it gets to the windows screen (the black one) and freezes. Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: In case you were wondering it loads to the windows boot screen and freezes on the third pass of the little blue bar.

EDIT: Attempted changing CD-ROM - no change, tried formatting and installing OS on a new (Well, old but different) hard drive on the same computer - had same issue where it wouldn't load past the boot screen

My sister's computer initially was infected with hundreds of virus and only would show Windows backgroud (no icons or start menu). I ran antivirus and cleaned them up but cpu 100% still. After trying several suggestions on internet, I decided to format and load fresh copy of Windows but still 100% and very slow. so I let all the MS updates install and now up to SP3 but still 100% CPU. Everytime I run task Manager, taskmgr is the highest running process. This also occurrs with Process Explorer. I ran diags on Motherboard, HD, memory, video card, etc. and all passed. I also attempted to run in Safe Mode but the Mouse does not work in Safe Mode (maybe even the keyboard because ctl-alt-del does nothing. I am at my wits end with this computer. Does anyone have any suggestions? it is a Dell Dimension 2400.

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Unlike previous Thinkpads I've had which came with seperate recovery media (and thorough manuals!), the Yoga S1 came with just a solitary slip of paper which did not mention the need to make a USB Recovery Media from a partition that I was unaware of. Massive complaints about this asside, here's a problem that I need to find the answer to: Let's say you received one of these machines, then loaded Linux onto it-- unaware of the necessary step of making a  USB Recovery Media. The original partitions that came on the machine having been blown away in the process of this use appears to mean that the Windows 8 license I paid for is now nolonger useable. Because I nolonger have the recovery media's partition (nor the Windows 8 install needed to follow these instructions to put said Recovery Media on a USB stick), I have reached out to Lenovo support requesting either:A) my license key that I've paid Lenovo for but never received, so I can make use of this after I install an older version of Windows I have from a previous Thinkpad which actually included a recovery disk (as it should!!) or:B) a copy of Recovery Media because I was not informed that I needed to follow the aforementioned steps to make a USB stick.to which, I was told to contact a support company which requires payment before I can even say a word to them. This of course is not ok. Far from satisfactory. I would appreciate it if a Lenovo represenative could give me a solution to this. Please do... Read more

You can ask Lenovo for recovery disks, but if they can't provide that (out of warranty, user-changed software), you can install it directly from Microsoft. The product key is bounded with the motherboard so once you install and connect to the internet, it should verify. You'll need to create an installation media to a flash drive. Then, you'll need to boot into the flash drive by (pressing F12 continously on startup, and choosing the flash drive). You can then install the drivers from the Lenovo support site. Here's the installation media;Windows 8: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8Windows 8.1: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Chrome will not load from taskbar, icon on desktop, Start All Programs icon, or executable in windows Explorer Program Files (X86). I can open it once or twice, but then must restart Windows to use Chrome again.
I use Win 7 64-bit in dual core desktop. I use Avira AV and Comodo firewall. I use MBAM for periodic maintenance.

A:Chrome will not reload in a Windows session

sounds like unfortunately you need to uninstall and then reinstall chrome. Try doing that and see if it resolves the issue. Sounds like something is causing the browser to not function properly.
