NAV2005 LU thinks my wxp is a w98??!

Q: NAV2005 LU thinks my wxp is a w98??!

I installed NAV2005 on my wxp-he. When I run LiveUpdate, it doesn't complete the installation of the NortonAntivirus update, instead saying:

*****
Windows 98 4.10.2222

NAVNT 11.0.1

Your Operating System is Windows 98/Me. This update is not desiged for Windows 98/Me.
*****

Yesterday I was on the computer about 12 hours, off and on with tech support.

I had already uninstalled NAV, installed sp2, reinstalled NAV2005, same problem. Norton said remove and reinstall NAV. I told them I already had. Do it again. Did. Same result. Second call, they said call hp and have them fix bad sectors and try again. Did (they had me run scandisk, then run sfc /purgenow, then run sfc /scannow), same result. Third call to Norton, uninstalled NAV LU LiveReg through add/remove, then took out of the registry and removed all symantec folders on the drive (except for three that wouldn't leave), then reinstalled. She guaranteed me this time no problem. Wouldn't stay on the line for the reinstall. Hung up, reinstalled, got same problem.

Yes, I have a W98SE 4.10.2222, but the NAV2005 CD doesn't know it. And NAV2005 hasn't been installed on it (though NAV2004 was). Yes, it has been networked through a router to the wxp, but the network card hasn't worked in ages (the w98 can't get to the Internet and the w98 and wxp can't see each other, and for the final 2 installations of NAV2005 above, the w98 was unplugged from the router).

My wxp has always been xp, not upgraded from 98. Why does LiveUpdate think my computer is w98 rather than wxp?

Preferred Solution: NAV2005 LU thinks my wxp is a w98??!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: NAV2005 LU thinks my wxp is a w98??!

Norton is and always has been a law unto itself, not even its own people know how it works, there is no question it is seeing that Windows 98 somehow, and in my opinion until you get rid of that your not going to get what you want, you may get other replies telling you different hopefully ....good luck

I have a friend who has SystemWorks2004 AND Norton Anti-Virus2005 installed on her laptop. When you click on the Symantec systray icon, the NAV2005 desktop icon, or NAV2005 under the start menu, the SystemWorks2004 window comes up (just like when you click on the SystemWorks2004 desktop icon or select SystemWorks2004 under the start menu). Is it skipping over the NAV2005 program or does that integrate into the SystemWorks program as the anti-virus part now?

I guess my real question was, as long as she keeps her subscription to SystemWorks2004 and def files up to date, is there a reason to purchase a separate NAV2005 program?

Thanks - cybergrrl

A:SystemWorks2004 and NAV2005

The System Works has an Anti-virus incorporated into it already so, if it was renewed, there would be no need to install another Anti-virus program. She should uninstall one or the other. Personally, I would keep the System Works as it has more features.

I did a scan using NoAdware v4.0 (Unregistered version) and detected the following:

Backdoor.GWGhoHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MicRegValue and:
Worm that trys to spread itself and allows unauthorized access to your PC.

I tried to locate this with RegEdit and didn't find it (no surprise there as I'm rather a novice at this) and with RegCleaner.

I was updating drivers and firmware on our SCSI/RAID cards yesterday, and a weird thing happened. After I was done, I started making sure my data was still intact. I double-clicked on one of my drives, and it started the 'autoplay' routine. Just as if it were a CD drive. All the data is there (thank goodness), and I can get to it by exploring, but whenever I double-click I get a message telling me that 'maxviewf.exe' in missing.

I recognize the EXE. It's on several CD's I get. It is the name of a viewing program. I've trying rebooting, but it still is there.....

Weird...

Check the root directory of the hard drive for a file called "autorun". If you find one delete it and you should be OK.

PS I use Windows 7

A:PC still thinks it needs VPN?

Did you uninstall the VPN software? You may also want to check you Internet Options in the Control Panel and look under the Connections tab. There's a button there for LAN settings, disable any of the proxy settings there, uncheck everything. Also check that you are not using DNS settings that are no longer valid. Set your Ethernet and wireless connections to automatic as shown in the screen shots here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/change-tcp-ip-settings#1TC=windows-7

Hello all,

This is my first post here but i gotta ask for some help.

I was perusing the internet today and i got a window from Zone Alarm saying that it found and cleaned a virus. I have had viruses before so i immediately knew that i would have some work to do and that zone alarm most likely DID NOT clean it out.

I think I was right, i checked in zone alarm after a reboot and saw a new process in the program control that looked suspicious (no vendor or program discription at all, my other virus i had a while back did the same thing). The virus i had before was a little more obvious to me and i was able to clean it out but i'm not sure what to fix right now.

Also, now i can't get internet explorer to open, it opens and immediately closes before i can do anything with it. I had to put firefox on my pc from my laptop just to post here.

anyhow, could someone please have a look? I would VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IT.

I used a number of the programs you'll see in the list (ad aware too) to scan and i did in both normal and safe mode, but nothing i used found anything.

Thanks very much.

I have one PC on my home network that will not allow any of my other PC's to access its shared filed and folders. At one point, it would not allow me configure Windows Firewall. I found an obscure document on the Microsoft site that says there were problems with some updates activating Small Business Network functions on home networks. I was able to find and delete the registry entry that had set a group policy keeping me from configuring Windows Firewall but have not been able to find where the rest of the server security policies are being set. I have removed and reinstalled SP2 - as the issue started after one of the automatic updates loaded about 6 - 8 months ago. I have also removed and reinstalled Norton Internet Security. The security event log shows the login failures and all documentation leads one to use the Server Admin functions to fix this - except I do not have any such functions loaded on any of my computers.

Hello! I have just joined this forum so be nice

My OS is Windows XP SP3.

I've never had problems before: I recently bought 50 blank Infiniti DVD-R discs. The software I used is CovertXtoDVD and basically, I added a film to the software for converting, an hour or so later it tells me to insert blank media, so I inserted a 4.7GB blank DVD-R but my computer is telling me the blank media is a CD. I have also tried putting a numerous amount of discs from the 50-pack spindal into a different computer and it is still telling me they are CDs.
When I go to 'my computer' after I inserted the disc, it has no mention that it's a DVD in the drive. My guess is that there is a problem with all 50 discs? As I say, I've never had problems before and have used the same software and same kind of discs for a very long time now, the problem has only started with this brand new 50-pack spindal.

Please help, thank you.

A:My dad thinks I'm running a VPN?

Do you recognize the folder? I am only asking cause VPN does not come configured by default, that is a service you or someone else had to set up. My only thing you can check is right click on the files in there and check the created date to see if that helps ring a bell.

Try opening up Windows Media Player and going to Tools>Options. There should be a tab on there that deals with buffering or internet connections. On this tab you should be able to adjust the time allowed for buffering or the speed of your connection. You may want to specify a minimum time for buffering in this tab.

Hello,

Here's the scenario

p133, 65 ram, creative52x cd-rom, windows95c

For any disc I put in, it's recognized as being an audio cd; but it's not an audio cd. It's a program disc. Microsoft Office in fact.

cd drivers are intact and correct

There is no rhyme or reason. I don't know what additional details will assist, so please let me know what you think.

Sincerely,

Aud

A:cd-rom thinks every cd is audio

PS
I've searched through all the other possible posts on this site and other sites. None is quite the same.

For example I've already tried what Sky7 suggested, funny thing though, regarding the following quote...

"HKEY_Machine...System...CurrentControlSet...Services..CDFS.
Change the Start key from "4" to "1" Voila!! Normal recognition of all types of CDs restored!"

...I don't have CDFS in Services. Only Print...Printers.

What's a gal to do?

I have hp pavilion 6244 PC with a HL-dt-st-dvd rrw gsa hL30. I am running Vista Home Preminum 32 Bit.

My problem is this it won't play any store bought dvds or burn anything any more.

It will play a video I burn with it previously before this happen and cd if if play the song from picking them but not picking play an album.

I have checked bios that's good
I have reinstalled the driver several times
The device manager say it is just a cd rom and I have tried playing in safe mode and still look at the device manager and it says it is just a cdrom.

I have tried everything on HP's Mr fix it with nothing fixing it .
I would understand that their something wrong with the dvd player other then I can play dvds burned on it from previous days.
When I run mr fix it it doesn't say anything except that the media I put in it is not the correct media for fixing the problem.

Any body got any ideas to try next????????????????????

A:Dvd burner thinks it is a cd rom

When you right click the drive in Device Manager and click Properties what's it say in DVD Region tab?

Also try burning something with Imgburn See what it gives for an error message.

O.K. Ive spent a few days looking through posts and learned a lot but still have a serious problem. I posted last week that I couldnt get my administrater acoount back after changing my user account to limited. Well now I think there is more. I cant even get all my computer imfo from the help thingy. [Real newby] Ive tried everything i found mentioned in other posts. Typed in administrator ect. When I do get in as administrater , its like I have never used the comp. At first I thought I was in safe mode but just now when I tried to fill in more of my specs, I found that it says that my windows isnt activated and will expire in 30 days. My comp. guy reinstalled windows at xmas for me and I know im regestered.Everything works good but I can't use any administratrive priviledges. My hubby has an account but never used it and if I go there, its just like when I try to use administer. On yhe welcome screen, only 2 accounts show...mine and hubbys...no administrater. Before I changed my account to limited, I could do anything, now, nothing. Oh and if I do get in with the administrater account by typing in the user spot, if I try to use open user accounts, I get script error....Also tried last configuration thingy. When I restart, the screen doesnt stay on long enough to "press F8" before it continues to start up and if I do it really fast , not being able to read whats on the page, I get 4 options and nothing about last best configuration. I think thats all I know for... Read more

Good evening. My specs are -
Z77 Extreme 3 Mobo
Intel I5 3750
Nvidia 460 in SLI

I have realtek onboard audio and my issue is that when I powered on my system yesterday, I seem to have lost sound and my audio devices are seeming to connect at random. It shows sound in the sound options during testing, but I don't actually hear anything. I've tested multiple speaker sets as well as headphones. My realtek display also shows headphones or speakers connected to the front panel when nothing is there. I've reinstalled the drivers for realtek, as well as the plain old windows 7 drivers with no success. I'm completely out of ideas and would really appreciate some help. I've also confirmed the hd audio cable is properly connected to the header on the mobo.

Pc totaly died on me, had no choice but to loose it all. been
getting nothing but invalid page faults and fatal exception errors ever 2 minutes.
Now the problem is my 40 gig hard drive thinks it just a 2gig.
Ran scandisk and surface scan, hardrive is fine, no bad clusters, but no matter what I do, the pc thinks I only got a 2 gig drive in fdisk, reset bios to default, deleted partion, reset as primary active, format, check
Again, still only 2 gig recognized, so I got it working thinking like
that but even with fresh win 98 se, still page faults.
Any ideas??

I am running xp with sp1. At least that is what my computer says, however, when I try to install some programs such as media player it tells me I must have windows xp. Microsoft website will not let me upgrade to sp2 because it thinks my computer is not compatable and various other issues like this. I tried to download a patch, I don't remember which one, and it told me that the patch was not available on a server edition of windows. I should not have a server edition. I am very confused. I ran several anti-virus and AdAware came up clean, however MWAV escan shows trojans and keyloggers over and over even after it says it has deleted them.

Everex Stepnote Windows XP sp3 Iphone 5 ios 8.1 hotspot connection issue
Hi,

I'm trying to use a iPhone as a wi-fi hot-spot. It comes up in the list of Available Wireless Networks, but when I try and connect it comes up with...

"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again"

Have updated all drivers, updated all Windows components, cleaned registry, defragged drive, and spyware removal just for good measure.
Have noticed wireless connection keeps jumping to OPEN Shared, WEP connection when should be WPA-Personal.
Any fixes would be better than none,
Am using my laptop to access this site, there for not able to Download TSG Sysinfo for laptop with problem.

Any suggestions would be good

Thanks.

Hello,

I have a Gateway PC Windows Vista computer about 2 days ago I started getting a problem that I was not able to boot the computer on the first try the line I saw that might be the problem is this:

Client MAC ADDR: 00 19 21 32 E4 AA GUID: FEFEFEFE-FEFE=FEFE-FEFEFEFEFEFE PXE E53 No boot filename received

To ME it appears that it is looking for a MAC computer and not a PC to boot. Yesterday after SEVERAL attempts I was able to get the computer to fully load and it worked fine. I did a computer check with AOL software came back no problem. Did a scan disc NO problem did a defrag no problem too. The hard drive is saying there is no problems.

Today I tried and I saw the message above and this time I can't get the computer to go past it. I do not have a boot disc every time I tried to follow the step to create one it said the disc was not big enough. I was using a read write CD.

Now I am getting this message on a blue screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is your first time you've seen this screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers check your hard drive to sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.

A:Please help can't boot PC thinks it is a Mac:o(

Client MAC ADDR: 00 19 21 32 E4 AAClick to expand...

That's talking about the MAC Address (also called the Physical Address) of a network adapter; probably your ethernet adapter. This is a new error to me; my guess is that in the BIOS "boot from network" is enabled and the computer had trouble finding the boot manager on the hard drive and then tried the network.

Maybe the hard drive is loose (if laptop) or a connector to it is loose (if desktop). You probably got some documentation with your PC that will show you how to check the hard drive for the possibilities I mentioned. Else there should be some user manuals on their web site.

I think my guesses above would also cover the other symptoms you're getting.

Et al,

I replaced my HDD with a SDD about a year ago, so far so good. But, recently I cannot upgrade Win 10 to the latest version because it (WIN) thinks my SDD is a USB drive. The current drive was cloned from a HDD and when I went back to it, WIN would not allow me to upgrade WIN versions. I assume my issue may be chip related or driver. While I am able to function fully under the current version WIN will not allow me to update.

Also, if anyone has a driver for dell e6510:

Hi. I am in the process of trying to get Windows 98se to recognize my CD-ROM drive. It disappeared recently when I was trying to fix another problem, but this problem is more basic. I have booted up using a startup disk and the CD-ROM drive can be accessed by that method, so it is connected and working. The CD-ROM doesn't show up in My Computer, Device Manager, or System Information. I think that it is detected by BIOS, however I'm not exactly sure what to look for in BIOS to confirm this. What should my next step be, or what additional information do I need to include so my problem can be identified? Any help would be great, so I thank you in advance for your efforts.

Hi!

First time I'm doing this, tried to follow the instructions as best I could.

The reason I'm posting this is that my Blizzard account has been compromised. Blizzard was kind enough to help me promptly and rollback my account for me and change passwords and whatnot. They suspect I have been keylogged and therefore I am trying to figure out if this is so.

hi jimmy,

if you right-click on your desktop and click 'screen resolution', do you have two monitors there or one?

if there are two, then select 'Show desktop only on 1' from the multiple displays drop-down menu.

hope this helps.

I got the RED SHIELD OF FUD*, saying that my computer might be unprotected - no firewall, no virus protection! But the icons are right there in the lower right corner: AVG and ZoneAlarm. And they both say they're active and healthy.

The only new stuff I did lately was download and install two applets from my company for web-based features to a remote 3270 terminal emulation (IBM mainframe access), and the latest java runtime environment (1.6). I removed the applets, and removed the JRE update - restarted - same thing.

I told Windows security center I was monitoring it myself so it would turn off the warning.

Has anyone else seen this?

Muchas Gracias,

G00k

A:Xp suddenly thinks I'm unprotected!

All I want to know right now is if anyone has seen the XPSP2 security "center" suddenly raise a balloon saying that a system with an up-to-now working ZA firewall and AVG virus program running, now hasn't got them. And the two programs still appear to be working - AVG updated itself and scanned the system just like always...
