I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

YES!  You CAN teach your OLD DELL INSPIRON 531 desktop a NEW WINDOWS 10 operating system!

First - The Bad News:
Memory - boost the 531 up to its 4 Gig capacity.  The stock 2 Gigs won't cut the mustard for this.
Audio - the integrated sound chip on the motherboard will sound choppy if you use the Realtek drivers and/or may not work at all giving you the dreaded NO AUDIO DEVICE FOUND.  Since the 531s are used mainly for the usual email and online surfing activities anymore (a gaming machine they're not even when they were new) ... just get a new sound card for a few bucks online and disable the integrated sound chip on the motherboard in BIOS.
Upgrading to Windows 10 from XP, VISTA, SEVEN ... you need to do a clean installation or you will encounter issues like corrupt registries, applications like Adobe not working, and Microsoft Office errors after the update (where Office throws up the dialog it can't find Word, Excel, Outlook etc. even when you click on the application's executable file).  This means back up your personal files to an external hard drive.
Now - The Good News:
Despite the fact that the Windows 10 Upgrade notification icon tells you that the Inspiron 531's integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 doesn't have drivers for Windows 10 and therefore won't let you upgrade to Windows 10 Home or Pro ... pay no attention to that.
You do not need to go buy a video card for this system for Windows 10.

How do you enable the NumLock when you start a Dell Inspiron Desktop running Windows 10?
I have edited the Registry value for "InitialKeyboardIndicators" to 2147483650. After powering down and restarting, NumLock is still not on.
Do I have to disable "Fast Startup", too?
I accessed the BIOS menu on startup, but did not see any option for the Keyboard settings - unless I missed it.

My home desktop is connected to a wireless router through AT&T U-verse and it's broadcasting just fine. I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

1TB hard drive
Windows 64-bit.
I would like to know if it's much cost effective to take it to a computer shop and have these upgrades done or to buy them online, then have them installed. Any suggestions? Can I buy these items from other websites other than Dell that are compatible?

Hiya all,

Before I start, I'm really not good with computers, so plllease been simple with me

Okay so in February we got brought a new computer for our birthdays, the wireless wouldn't set up and so it took us about 4 hours on to dell tech people to solve this (grr). We then went on holiday for 2 weeks, when I came back and went to use the computer this error message keeps popping up.
WZCSLDR2.exe System error - The programe can't start because ANIOApi.dll is missing from your computer. Try re-installing the program to fix this problem.
This didn't bother me as I assumed it was something to do with the wireless being set up, however every now and then the computer just shuts down, it is completly random, sometimes the computer will have been on for 2 hours and then re-start, sometimes 10mins.

If theres any other information I can give you to help you, please let me know.

Thanks in advance everyone

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC that's 7.5 years old. It was working fine until today, when it wouldn't turn on at all. I kept pressing the power button and nothing happened at all - the computer just wouldn't turn on.

I tried a different power cord and that didn't work. I opened up the computer and I could see an orange light on the motherboard was lit, and a green light on the back of the power supply was lit too, so the computer is getting power.

I took off the front of the case and tried pressing on the power switch directly, and that didn't work. I tried pressing on where the power switch wire connects to the motherboard to make sure it was connected and that didn't help.

Any idea on what's wrong?

A:Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC won't turn on at all

Most likely a failed pw supply however it can also be a failed pw switch/wiring or a failed mb. To test the pw supply, swap in a known good unit. Note known good does not mean new; it means a unit from a test system or a working system that you know works. A new pw supply can be DOA just like any other part and that will really mess up your troubleshooting.

To test the switch/wiring, pull the pw switch leads from the mb. Jump across the mb pins with a small screwdriver or other metal object. If the board starts, you know either the switch or wiring has failed.

Hi,
I had the same problem and I have solved it!!!
Here's my solution:
1. shut down the Dell inspiron 530 computer
2. disconnect all USB peripherals (including the keyboard, mouse, printer, ..) - you can leave the screen connected
3. start the computer, in which it will try to start at least 3 times, revving its fans and then the bios will detect that the keyboard is missing and display an error message.
4. reconnect the USB cables for the keyboard and mouse.
5. press the blue on/off button on the insirpon for more than 5 seconds until the system restarts - this is a "hard" reboot.
6. "hopefully" you should notice that the system starts first time
and finally 7. proceed to reconnect other USB devices

That's all folks and happy computing.

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 desktop with a Vista 32 home premium operating system. Some time ago, the CD drive stopped working, even though all the diagnostics say it is functioning properly. Recently, after a normal shutdown, the computer will not complete a reboot. It will turn on, go through the Dell logo screen, and Windows will begin loading. It will proceed through the "Please wait" screen, and the "Welcome" screen, and then goes to a black screen with the white cursor arrow. I can move the arrow freely with the mouse, but nothing else will happen. Eventually, it goes to the screen saver, and if you move the mouse, it will go to the sign-in screen. The computer will reboot in "Safe mode." Diagnostics in Safe Mode say that there were errors in the Drive that were supposedly fixed, but it still will not restart. I can't reboot with the installation disks because it won't recognize the CD drive. Any thoughts or help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Everyone,
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop in Jan 2015, all was good until the hard drive died and was replaced, then the optical drive started making a funny noise and Dell sent me a replacement, now the whole system sounds pretty loud in operation and i have always found it to be a pretty quite runner usually,
Ive had the side cover off and honestly find it hard to know exactly where the louder sound is coming from, all i can tell you is it's a constant kind of deep sounding hummmmmmmmmm that starts around 10mins after the system is switched on ,and appears to be towards the back of the unit. I recently swapped out the stock 300w power supply for a corsair CX 500W and it sounds really sweet, so i doubt it's that,
Pressing lightly on parts of the case toward the back, either alters the tone of the hum or sometimes stops it all together for a few moments,
Currently i have it sat on the floor by the side of my desk, but it's not directly on the carpet, it's sat on a hard shelf that i had cut to size. The funny thing is, when i unplugged it and took it down to my kitchen, i took the side panel off so i could listen, and it sounded really quite stood on my counter top?. Its also had a good clean with compressed air, though it wasn't very dusty inside to begin with,
I have a low threshhold when it comes to pc loudness to start with, and this is driving me nuts because it wasn't this audible before,

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing... Read more

My three-year-old PC is currently unable to get even a signal on the monitor. It has a solid amber light on the power button, but I can hear it making all of the same startup sounds, and the disk drive opens and sounds like it is reading discs. The power supply cord has a box on it that has a green light, it's not blinking or anything.

There is also a USB mouse that lights up when plugged into one of the back slots, but a known working keyboard doesn't light up or do anything. BTW I also tried a known working monitor.

When it was last working, it would sometimes get 'stuck' like this when trying to restart from being powered down, but the times this happened it eventually would work by sort of messing with the Power button. Then, it tried to restart for a Windows update and hasn't reacted since.

Hi Everyone,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop purchased January 2015,
It used to run really quietly, but recently it's sounding louder during operation,
I've had the side panel off a number of times, but couldn't pin point what exactly was responsible, but once the side panel is replaced, and the PC is placed back in it's usual location, the sound is there and it sounds like one of the fans,
It had been suggested to me, to place the PC on a softer surface, as it could be just down to resonating. I've stood it directly on my floor in my office, but the sound is still there, a varied hummmmmmm sound which on further listening, seems to be the chassis fan,
My question is, where can i purchase a new replacement chassis fan (the one on the back)?, also , if it turns out to be the CPU fan, can I replace just the fan without disturbing the heatsink, thermal paste and processor?,
I also need advice where I can purchase a replacement CPU fan?, it's an Intel core i5 4460, 4th Gen,
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thank You,
Mr Anthony

Existing RAM : DDR3L 1600Mhz (UDIMM slots)
I tried CRUCIAL website. They only mention DDR3L RAM. Some internet websites mention that SKYLAKE motherboard support both DDR3L(1.35v) & DDR4(1.2v). I assume my motherboard chipset fall under SKYLAKE category.
I don't want to feel disappointed after investing in DDR4 RAM. That's why I want to clarify before buying. If DDR4 shall be supported, what speed I should choose. Also only if DDR3L RAM supported, can I try going beyond 1600 mhz

My wife this morning reported that an important folder vanished - it wasn't in Recycle, it wasn't Hidden. She had been using it, and viewing content from a professional CD-Rom which seems innocent enough.

She's no computer expert, but canny enough not to shift-delete something without realising it.

I did searches for the missing folder and some of the files that were in it. None of them showed up even when I searched the whole hard drive!

I ran a free-downloaded program, Recuva, to try to locate the folder, but could not see it. Then realised my mistake - perhaps the new program was written on the missing files - but it's only a 3.4MB program. It couldn't have covered all the files, surely.

Unfortunately the folder is recent and there hasn't been a backup for a while (I know - bad, bad )

ANy clues as to how this folder may have vanished off the face of the desktop?

Any clues on effective recovery tool?

A:Lost folder, NOT deleted, on Dell Inspiron desktop

Hello John and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes malware can cause files and folders to go missing. Have you run a full scan with your updated resident anti-virus program? Since no anti-malware program is 100% effective 100% of the time (if there was such a thing we'd all be using it) you could also use the free Malwarebytes as a second on-demand scanner.

Malwarebytes

If you're familiar with editing the registry, you could open regedit and search for the name of the missing folder. If regedit finds your search value a file path should appear at the bottom of the regedit screen. Use the F3 key to continue searching the registry for any other values containing the missing folder's name. When you've finished searching the registry you could use the start menu search box to manually look for the various file paths. NOTE: Do not make any changes to the registry. Just use it as a search tool.

My new monitor arrived today but I cannot connect it with the cables enclosed. My old Inspiron 580 was bought in 2010 and my old monitor used the VGA socket.
The cables supplied with the new monitor are USB 3.0 upstream cable and a DP to mDP cable. There doesn't seem to be a mDP socket on my desktop so how can I connect the monitor?
My first question to the Dell sales person was "Would this new monitor be compatible with my old Inspiron 580 desktop i.e., regarding connectivity?"  He said Yes it would.
Any help would be much appreciated - but not too technical please.
Thank you

The 1GB ATI Radeon HD5450 graphics card, show it as having a HDMI connector, as does the Dell UltraSharp 24 InfinityEdge U2417H monitor, you could use a HDMI cable similar to this:

A:Dell Desktop inspiron 530 power supply problems.

Hi pat59,
Please remove the power cable, press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds. Connect the cable and switch on the computer check if it starts properly. If the computer is plugged into a power strip, ensure the power strip is plugged into an electrical outlet and is turned on. Also, bypass power protection devices, power strips, and power extension cables to verify the computer turns on properly.
Let me know your findings.

Hi!
Is it possible to upgrade the Inspiron 660s slim desktop to a better processor after purchasing it?  The Dell specifications say it is compatible with Core processors up to i5, 2nd and 3rd generation processors, but I'd eventually like to up it to a i7-2600k.  I have the brand new boxed processor from a computer build i was going to do, but never got to do.

The dell specs also specify it uses a Intel B75 express chipset, and according to the Intel website is compatible with i7-2600k.  the 2600k processor is a 95W processor, while it looks like the smallest processor, celeron is a 35W processor.

is it possible?  Has anyone else done this?

A:Upgrading the dell Inspiron 660s slim desktop

Hi jlerng,
According to this Intel page, the i7-2600k is compatible with the B75 Express chipset. However, your system specs say only up to an i5 for the 660s. This is probably due to a power limitation. This is one of the many reasons we do not recommend the slim desktop systems for those who are thinking about later upgrades.

Hola!

This W7 desktop has been working with an ethernet cable for years, but we just recently changed things around in our house and it's no longer in the room with the modem and router.

'No problem', I tell the wife, 'this is Windows 7, and on this OS even the desktops have built in wireless capability'.

So after not seeing the wireless icon in the notification area, and going to the Network and Sharing Center and seeing no wireless icon, I check Device Manager. No wireless driver. Still no problem - I go to the Dell Drivers and Downloads page and type in my service tag. I then download the only wireless driver they list (Atheros Wireless 1525 WLAN Mini Card Desktops, v.8.0.0.376, A02) onto a USB drive, plug the drive into the Dell and run the executable, expecting a quick and easy resolution.

Wrong. Almost immediately I'm greeted with the DW 1525 Adapter Device Not Found.

Gregrocker once told me that 'Google is your friend'. Well my friend has disappointed me - there's precious little information available on this error.

So I turn to the experts...

A:DW 1525 Adapter Device Not Found - Dell Inspiron 570 desktop

so, the first thing we ask, what is the model of your desktop?

Hi...I'm not sure where to put this request, thought since the Dell Inspiron 15 is running Windows 10 (including latest update) that there might be a conflict between the desktop and the keyboard down in the nuts and bolts somewhere. I can turn the machine on, the capslock light comes on, SOMETIMES the keyboard works well enough to input the pin to get the desktop booted up. Sometimes I have to go through steps to get the touch screen keyboard up in order to input the pin. However, as soon as the desktop is active, the keyboard no longer works. I've updated the drivers, don't know what else to do. When I try a search online for a solution, I get differing ideas on how to solve the problem. I've tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, that didn't work. Any and all help will be much appreciated. I really need the keyboard to be working, my kids do their homework on my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

When I start my computer last icon of the desktop is automatically selected.
When i click on other icons only the last icon is opened.
I can open the icons if i press the TAB button and refresh.
But it is limited to some time only.
Also webpages are scrolled down automatically till the end.It stops if I press TAB. But after some time it stars again.

A:Dell Inspiron 3542, Win-7:Last icon on the desktop is selecting automatically.

Sounds like you have a stuck key on the keyboard. Turn it upside down and shake out all the dust and crumbs. Blow in between the keys with a can of compressed air. Or try a different keyboard.

Hi
I got a bigger m.2 ssd for my 3050 pc and instead of duplicating old ssd into new one I decided to reinstall windows from downloaded recovery iso image. No matter what I do I couldn't get pc to boot up. It would go through the process, but eventually wouldn't boot up. Tried it in legacy and UEFI mode. Original ssd size is 32gb with about 12gb free with windows installed. SO I assume the windows 10 from Dell is shrunken somehow.
I was finally able to install it from downloaded full version of windows 10 iso from microsoft by changing bios to ATA and legacy setting. Then after 1st boot change the registry entry to achi, boot into safe mode to reinstall achi driver. At least now I have it in achi mode.
Q1. What is the ROW mean in W10x64ROW_core_compact.iso recovery file that I can download from Dell?
Q2. What would be missing in compact version from Dell in comparison to MS downloaded iso file?
Q3. What am I doing wrong?
I would prefer to install dell original recovery image so I would have it in GPT UEFI. Just FYI ssd capacity is different.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I wasn't able to read what it says before the computer restarted.
Little back story, the computer had started running loudly which escalated to making a noise that almost sounded like grinding(or a piece of cardboard stuck in the fan). Couldn't figure it out so I gave up, last time I used it was January, but between last August and then it was only sporadic usage. A few weeks ago I turned it on again and there has been no abnormal noises, and out of no where I get the BSOD, computer still seems to be running fine.
Going to bed now, but will be on tomorrow afternoon to run any scans or give and needed info.
Thanks in advanced!

A:horizontal squiggly lines then BSOD-dell inspiron all in one desktop

Let's try looking at these reports:
1)  Please provide this information (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/
2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

Good morning afternoon to the Dell Community. I am having a problem has been going on for a few months now where the PC reboots at the same time everyday, give or take a few minutes. I have adjusted all the power settings, disabled sleep, disabled auto restart, and checked scheduled events, etc. I did a review of the event logs and found that the kernel power manager is the culprit initiating the shutdown daily since early February 2017. Most of my research points to power-supply. I wanted to see if anyone had experienced something similar and also to see if anyone had any ideas or theories that might help me correct the issue or work around it so that the PC is not rebooting itself everyday at 11:00 am.

I turned on my Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop computer and it was running perfectly normal then it came to the login screen, I logged in to my account. After everything loaded and it showed my desktop and programs the computer blue screened, then shut off. It restarted all the way to the login screen, so I logged in and the same thing happened. Does anyone know what might be wrong with my desktop, is it a virus maybe?
