I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Aha GouroB, so you're from the UK, I should be able to handled that as I hail from there myself, but I've lived in the US for the last 25 years. Still if we get stuck we know what region to turn to for additional support.(I might have to start putting the letter "u" back in some words, just for colour ) Okay I have a unit like yours, same family, but I have the i5 processor and not the i7, makes no difference to what your trying to do. If my research is right you did not buy a unit with 1 hard drive but instead 2, however the 2nd is a small Msata SSD solid state drive which is used as a Cache drive to speed up performance, it does this using the Intel Rapid storage, and it shows on mine, which still has the original HP configuration, that I have cache drive & it has RAID 0 on it, all controlled by the Intel rapid storage app, which you can download form where your drivers are.BTW it looks like you have the latest BIOS F.16 on already. Here is a link to a doc explaining about the hard drive setup http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03192147 Here is one just on SSD drives http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02435719 and if you go to your notebooks HP Softpaq download page you can find downloads for the Intel Rapid storage and the F2 UEFI diagnostics, including how to set it up if you lost it.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5281365#N642 In my BIOS setting under BOOT the first 3 I have listed are :Notebook Hard driveUSB Diskette on key/USB hard driveUSB CD/DVD ROM drive Sounds like you may have deleted some of the features your unit shipped with, but you should be able to get them back, even if it means getting the HP Factory Recovery media available on the same site.Your Notebook has a more complex and delicate setup than a normal single spindle HDD notebook without an mSATA cache drive, I think you may be better served by going back to the HP setup and adding an external drive for extra storage. It really does perform faster with the cache drive working. Now here is a picture I took of the Intel Rapid storage Technology app in my control panel I hope this is helpful, I know you want to get there using your Microsoft image & if you want to continue trying to do that I understand, but I think you will need someone else to get you there. Good luck.

Title says it all. My computer is very sick and I've received an error message today saying windows must be reinstalled, insert the reinstallation dvd. I don't have that disk anymore though I do still have the product key.

What should I do?

A:How do I reinstall windows 7 if I've lost the reinstall disk?

You may need to buy a new one. Do you have a recovery partition on your hard drive?

That is a very strange message, though. Are you sure you're not infected? Where and when did you see such a message?

My son's laptop 'died' earlier this week. Screen just went blank. In the end, I decided to rebuild the drive.
After much difficulty, I managed to reinstall the OS (Windows 10) and all seemed well.
Oh, except the reinstall does not provide even WiFi drivers at a minumum - so after figuring that out I had to dig that up too on another computer and transfer/install. Problems over... I thought.
As the XPS went on its way to update drivers - the screen suddenly went blank (hello! haven't we met before?)... made some melodious beeps and chirps as though trying to communicate (it wasn't morse code) and now the computer continues to hum away (the fans?) with that.... black screen.
Before I wipe everything and re-install, again, and perhaps let the machine run with old drivers at the risk of malicious attacks etc (small price to pay for a 'working' computer I suppose), might anyone know of solutions to this problem?
With thanks in advance.
Signed,
Frustrated but Hopeful

A:Dell XPS 13 Black Screen - cause for OS reinstall - happened again after reinstall during driver updates

Hi ASHAROM,
What is the exact system model?
Is there any damage / liquid spillage on the system?
For the beeps, first we need to check if the HW is functional:
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
Drivers: If you are using a retail image of Win 10 OS, it will contain only the OS installation files, since the OS is generic. The hardware on each system would differ and hence, the drivers need to be reinstalled. If you are using a recovery image for your system, then it would contain the required drivers with the OS image.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop (c. 2009) that had Windows 7 Home Premium on it. A couple months ago, I did the free upgrade to Windows 10 after continually getting prompted by Windows. Big surprise, my computer is not compatible, and therefore I can't see
anything on the monitor without plugging it into the TV via a HDMI cable, the "Start" button at the bottom left corner doesn't work, etc. It would also not let me go back to Windows 7 within the 30 days period. The laptop works perfectly fine minus
Windows 10 have screwed it up.

After talking to Dell support, they said Windows 7 needed to be reinstalled via a DVD. My friend had an original, unopened Dell reinstallation DVD with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When I try to do the reinstall, I choose "look for updates,"
and when it is in the "Setup is copying temporary files" first part of the install, the Unexpected error message with error code 0X6 telling to restart install pops up. I have tried multiple times, and I continually get the same error message.

Please help!

Windows Media Center is part of Windows 7 Home Premium and should already be installed.

If your computer doesn't have it, it may have been uninstalled.

Go to Control Panel - Programs And Features

Select Turn Windows features on or off

When the Windows Features window appears, click the + in Media Features

I reinstalled my operating system. All my other performance scores are the same except performance for Aero dropped from 6.7 to 5.7.

I downloaded the drivers for my computer model from Dell and installed them in the order Dell said to. Some of the drivers didn't install, so I moved on until I got to internet and from there I updated automatically. I'm guessing the ones that got skipped might have messed something up?

When I try to update automatically from Dell, these Intel drivers never work. It says they installed successfully but when I scan for updates again they always show up again:

Intel 8 Series Chipset Device Software Driver
Intel(R) Management Engine 9.0 Components Installer

(Intel 8 Series Chipset Device Software Driver also repeatedly shows up as an update on my other computer of the same model, so I don't think this is anything to worry about.)

When I tried to automatically update with an Intel update program, it could not automatically update; I believe it said it was because custom drivers were installed.

This is a new computer, so everything should be working. I'm just trying to get that score up to where it should be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, so a few days ago I was on my computer and it started running a little slow so I decided to restart. This is when all the trouble began... Following the reboot at the welcome screen i was greeted by several registry errors, and a message saying a backup copy of my registry had to be loaded. So I thought ok, why did this happen? So, I rebooted again to make sure every thing was still in check. After the second reboot(not sure if I can call it that) i didn't even get the welcome screen. Instead i got a quick flash of a BSOD stop error and that was it. So after overall reboots, I figured my computer had crashed and decided to do a clean install. I got my original cd free of scratches and formatted the hard drive completely. Then, when setup began to copy the files about 5 different files could not be copied. I tried to install windows AT-LEAST 10 times. I only got past the welcome screen twice and windows was completely crippled, even though it did manage to load. I tried reformatting, repairing the install, created a new partition and tried to install, and all have failed. The thing i find strange is that almost each time it would copy files some of the files would change. So, I am at a loss and don't know what to do or try next any help. I have a 40gb hd, 256 ram, pentium 4,Msi computer with an Aopen motherboard.

A:Windows xp had BSOD. tried to reinstall windows, but it wont install correctly!?

Pity you reformatted, sometimes that BSOD stop code gives a little insight to a problem. Could have referenced to a hardware fault and somewhat ruled out a few possibilities.
I've also had this problem with files not transfering and I just bought another CD and it worked. It happens with Server 2003 too. The CD just suddenly stops working and thats it.
You could try cleaning your CD\DVD drives laser, but thats a bit of long shot really. (didn't help in my case)

So I recently bought a Lenovo desktop that came with windows 7 pre-installed - I guess I havn't logged on this computer for a couple of months so it was kind of a surprise for me when i turned it on 2 days ago and it all of a sudden said " This copy of windows is not genuine " ? I've only had the thing for 5-6 months... Did the windows 7 home prem already expire, or? It keeps asking me to "Activate windows now" since the "Activation period has expired" - It doesn't make any sense though because I never had this problem before... I tried contacting customer support but there's no phone number anywhere... apparently you have to download a program which finds your serial number for you then you can call, but the program won't download for me - it just says " Failed " - Does anyone know the customer support phone number? Or Does anyone know how to reinstall windows on a "Pre-installed system" ? Thanks

Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire 6920G, which has recently developed a KSOD. It could be related to AVG, since it was prompting me to restart for a while before I shut down the computer. However, after attempting several fixes, (including renaming all of AVGs folders and the driver) I decided to just reinstall windows. After backing up my files with a Linux live CD, I noticed a problem. On this laptop, you can only reinstall windows through D2D (Disc to Disc). In my carelessness, I failed to notice one of the attempted KSOD fixes had reverted the Acer MBR to the Windows MBR, stopping me from booting into the hidden D2D partition (and the windows recovery tools). I have no other way of reinstalling windows, so I thought I'd ask what I should do here. From what I see, I either have to restore the Acer MBR (which seems impossible without windows) fix the KSOD, then fix the MBR in windows, or figure out how to boot into the hidden D2D partition Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hey,

So I had a problem today in which Windows decided that it wouldn't boot, Instead it would just reboot constantly

This happened after I heard a ticking noise from my computer, things started to freeze, and so i had to restart. When I tried to turn it back on I had the above problem.

NOW, I tried to use Windows Repair option that is there by default. It loads up the blue windows background, gives me a pointer but then doesnt do anything.

I have a W7 repair disc, I booted to it. That too done the exact same thing, it lets me choose the language/keyboard style to use and then sits on the blue windows background and gives me no options.

Finally, I have a full W7 installation disc that I booted to. I tried the repair option and got the same problem as before.

I also clicked the "Install Now" button and it has been stuck on "setup is starting" for over 10 minutes now, with no hope of it doing anything.

So currently I cannot repair or install Windows. I assumed it was a harddrive failure, but why wont my disc based solutiions even work?

Any help would be great, thanks

I did a full install of Windows 10 yesterday and I did not keep any files or documents as I have them backed up on my external drive.  The problem I ran into was that my NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 has no updates for win 10 and does not display properly. My computer came with Windows 7 home premium installed  and I have the product key.  As I have installed the full verion on Windows 10, I cannot recover the computer to win 7.  I did not get a Windows 7 disc when I bought the computer so I need to know if I can download a copy of the Windows 7 Home Premium somewhere and use my current product key? When the computer was new I made a set of recovery discs and I still have those ... I don't know if they can help. Any help and/or advice would be very helpful.  A link to the download would help as well. Thanks in advace for your help.  Jim.

A:Remove Windows 10 and Reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium

Yes those discs you made will reinstall W7, disc 1 is bootable, put it in the drive and restart the PC, when you see the Dell logo press ESC key a few times, then select your boot device (cd-dvd rom), it should now boot from disc 1 and start the recovery process, it is a lengthy process, so be patient and dont do anything unless instructed to, it will reboot on its own many many times, do not interrupt the process. When it is done with recovery there will be a screen to start setting up your user name and so forth.

They are both right and wrong. Acer does not give out win 7 dvd's any more as part of their software reduction program. Instead they give a "restore" dvd which can be used to restore the factory settings if the restore partition is there.

They are usually in a separate partition (sometime D:\)
If you have the factory image on D:| you can use the dvd to trigger a "restore"

You first step should be to look/explore to see if the acer image and partition is there.

It also retains all Windows updates so that you don't have to download all over again after a refresh, but if an update is the issue, it will remain for the average user.

When you install Windows the boot will be set to boot to that Windows only (in your case; non-newer Windows installations could be included in general). So the outline of how to proceed is

a. decide how you will get back to the dual boot you want, and make preparations if needed.
b. install Windows.
c. restore the dual boot.

As I assume that you have a GPT disk and UEFI motherboard I cannot give any more details.

The other day when my Win7 Home Premium desktop failed to boot into Windows, but only to the Repair Options screen, I had to decide between using my two-year old Windows System Image backup file or reinstall Win7 from my original retail DVD. I also decided that this was a good time to install a new, larger drive to use as C:, and let the original drive become D:. Although using the system image was recommended to me by a couple of people, I felt that a two-year old image on the new drive was too out of date, and so I opted to do a fresh install of Win7.

In fact, I found this reinstall to be a fairly painless operation... lengthy, with numerous updates (including SP1) and the subsequent machine restarts, but mostly just a case of clicking OK buttons. Other than an initial network driver to gain access to the Internet, all other drivers were downloaded and installed by Windows Update.

I had previously made a list of my two Program Files folders, so I knew what applications to install, as well as my Start Menu entries. With the exception of the operating system, all my applications are Open Source or freeware (such as Visual Studio Express) and readily available online. It was a good opportunity to "refresh" the entire system. ALthough I had recent backups, all my personal data files were still available on the old drive, and easily copied over to the new drive.

Since both options basically wipe whatever is on the drive, it got me wondering about the advantages, if ... Read more

I am just getting to know my T580 and I have a question about the recovery environment. This is the tool that is accessed by pressing the F11 key in the Startup Interrupt Menu. I would like to know, in the event that everything else is destroyed (e.g. by filling all other pattitions with zeroes and then deleting the partitions), would the recovery environment reinstall Windows as it was when I took the ThinkPad out of the box ? If yes, how does it do this? Does the recovery partition contain everything necessary to do this, or are downloads and/or USB media required? Also, how does the firmware know where to find the recovery environment? I presume it boots the partition on the first disk that has the expected GUID (i.e. it has DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC). Is that right ? If so, then I would assume that I only need to back up that one partition (it's 1000M, with 451M used and 586M free), and would be able to repartition a new disk with one partition of the appropriate size and GUID, and restore the backup into it. Then reboot through the startup interrupt menu and press F11 to reinstall Windows. Do I have that correct ?

So here's the story:
I was just getting some work done last night on my PC, when suddenly the power went out. After a while when the power came back on, my computer would not boot. It was stuck on the Windows loading screen. So I restarted and did diagnostic (pressed F9 before booting), turns out that everything is okay including CPU, memory and Hard Drive connection test.

So I restarted again and let the Windows load, it took 20 minutes. After which it started some disk checking (It looked like the Windows XP disk checking except it had a black background and it took 1.5 hours).

It showed that 8 files or indexes or something were unreadable. Then it restarted, and opened startup repair. Startup repair is apparently checking or disk errors which might take over an hour, but it has been over 5 hours now.

So I know that my Hard Drive is okay since it has been doing all that, but maybe the Windows files are corrupted.

I decided to re-install Windows but I want to keep my files. So I had to move all the files from the system drive to another one so I don't lose my files in the C drive. But I don't have another partition, I just have a 1.35 TB C Drive and I don't have any means of backing the files up on an external HDD.

So I was thinking if I could install Linux from a Disc, creating a partition with Linux, move all the files to that partition and then reinstall Windows from a CD.

Is it possible to do such a thing? If so what are the steps I should take to do i... Read more

It started out as a small problem with malware then after running an malware program i could not log in into windows, id log in and then get instantly logged out, so I googled the problem and all solutions to the problem was to repair reinstall windows with the cd, which work but then i got another dang error which was error code: 0X80004005. Which means basically there is problem preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. So i googled that and got the solution to that (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306081 [method 2]). I proceeded with the instructions till i got to the point where it instructs me to "Press 1 to access your primary drive installation with Recovery Console." which i attempt with no luck

Any help or suggestions WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

I wanted to convert my Sony Vaio back to Windows 7 after updating to Windows 8 last year. I tried using the recovery disks that I created when I got the laptop. It told me that I couldn't reinstall. So after trying multiple things, I finally decided to wipe out the entire hard drive thinking that it would automatically reinstall Windows 7 64 bit. Now when I try to reinstall, it can't find a drive to install it to and all I have is a black screen now telling me Operating System Not Found....please help so that I can reinstall Windows 7 64 bit on my Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX with a 500 GB SATA Hard drive and 6 GBs of RAM.

I'm thinking I may need to create a partition so that when I put the recovery DVD in to reinstall Windows, it has a drive to install the software onto. I don't know how to create a partition or if that will solve my issue. My laptop is now worthless. Also, I can't access BIOS. I completely erased the entire hard disk.

A:Erased hard drive to reinstall Win 7 but now won't reinstall

Jim depends on how you set the wipe up and how you formated it mate look at this and if you have access to another machine do it.
If the drive is wiped clean then follow this it says for SSD's but will also work on spinners

How do I zap everything back on my desktop screen so I don't have to go Download each files as new again??? And I how do i get my Internet Favorite Links and my Notepad with my saved information in it??

Thank you!!

ps. Yes I did try the "Start" and then program files and none of the programs are there.. BUT yet it is in my Program Hard drive C: Program files... with the Program and all it's content???

A:Reinstall XP Home How do I reinstall all my Program Files I Have?

You installed a new version of XP in the same folder as your old one instead of repairing the one that was there already. Your programs are there, but not "installed". You need to reinstall all the programs to create their registry entries and shortcuts.

You probably have 2 "Windows" folders, too, with different names. Go to Start > Run, and type:

%windir%

to see which one you are using now and delete the other one.

i've decided to go ahead and reinstall w8pro given my extensive messing around with it has finally caused some quirky, unexpected results - it's a relatively new installation, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle, didn't get a chance to install a lot of third party programs and such. the thing is, i did purchase and install the w8 media center pack - how do i go about getting this back? do i have to contact ms? i'm fairly certain that i don't have an activation number for the pack, if i recall i just paid for it online and then was allowed to download it and install it.

also, i thought i would go ahead and do a clean install all over again as opposed to a reset or refresh given i want to make certain that i'm starting from scratch again... or do you think a reset or refresh might be the better option (i'm not concerned about keeping any personal settings or files intact). any advice would be appreciated.

A:W8 Media Center Pack - Reinstall After W8 Reinstall?

They will have given you a Product Key for it - Just reinstall Windows 8 and then get Media Center again using the same Product Key, it's yours now. After you install it, the Media Center Key will be your new OS key.

Ill start with a high level list of events and fill in gaps if need be. Bascially here is the deal.

- I bought an ASUS 15 inch touch screen with windows 8 approx 18 months ago referbed off ebay.
- For the most part it has been running fine since then
- had a situation where i was trying to install some software for my daughter while also doing a million other things.
- computer crashed mid install and wouldnt boot
- over the next couple days, again, while trying to do a million other things, I rushed through every trick Ive ever learned

- Initially, was a bit perplexed since safemode wouldnt boot...ive never seen that.
- Long story short, I tried every possible option windows 8 recover would let me try....repair, reinstall, dos commands for chkdsk, fsc, koppix. Esentially NOTHING would complete.

- Lastly, I created a usb reparid disk from microsoft and tried to reinstall windows 8 and, I think, completely hosed the machine.

I dont really care about saving anything on the machine. I have the Windows 8 reinstall USB up and running and have been able to get to a point where I think I can through the Advanced install and just install windows. Which brings me to my question. Im currently at the "Where do you want to install windows" screen and its showing that I have 7 partitions
here are the types:

1) System
2) Recovery
3) MSR(reserved)
4) Primary
5-7) Recovery

If I want a clean install of Windows 8 from USB,

I think somehow a virus got on the hard drive and its corrupted or something like it- I have the xp disc - will reinstalling it via CD will do the trick, or do I need to format the c drive to make sure that virus is gone, if so how do i doit

I have an hp laptop that isnt old, its a g61-511wm When you turn it on all you get is: A disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart. Of course it keeps saying this whenever you restart. It came with Windows 7, and I do not care about losing info, I just want to be able to reload windows ( I have the DVD) I keep getting the error code: CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 5 I read online somewhere while searching for a fix, that the bios is outdated or something and you would have to install xp to be able to get an operating system on it so you can upgrade the windows 7 cd into it. I put my xp cd in that I know works, and I get the blue screen hang up.. Any advice on what to do, Im all out of luck. Thanks in advance

A:Cant reinstall windows 7 please help!!!

Have you tried checking the BIOS boot order so that the CD/DVD drive is 1st in the boot order? The blue screen worries me though. You might run a drive fitness test with a boot CD that you can download from the site of the manufacturer of the drive. If OK, then I guess (if there's no critical data on there) see if you can zero wipe the drive clean and reinstall Windows. I suspect a bad hard drive. Hopefully not a bad motherboard. Also check the CMOS battery voltage. You could also pop out the CMOS battery for a minute then put it back in to repair BIOS corruption if any.

Hi all,

I'm looking for an ISO of Windows 7 Pro 64 to reinstall onto my HP Elitebook 8460p. I wiped my hard drive and stupidly didn't make a recovery disc before doing so and am now left with a notebook without an OS. HP no longer carries the recovery discs and Microsoft doesn't offer the download anymore. I have the key and do not want to pay for another copy of 7. Can anyone help me out?

Hi,

I'm still having problems with my machine running slowly so I thought I'd try reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium over one of my spare clones but setup said it couldn't install because on EFI systems it could only install to a GPT disk. I'm not using EFI, but BIOS. I then tried to install it to the same partition that it was originally installed on and get the same message. Any suggestions?

I have a full version 8.1 disk I have successfully installed twice. The first time was after I built my pc so it could have an operating system and the second time was to downgrade from Windows 10. I downgraded because after an update I lost internet connection
and couldn't figure out how to get it back even after weeks of research. Once I rolled back to Win. 8.1 I had wifi connection again and decided to go back to Windows 10 because the first time I did that, (When Windows 10 came out), my internet still worked
so I figured it would be the same this time. But no, still no connection. So I decided to go back to 8.1 again then to 7 and stay there. But it won't let me go back to 8.1 and everytime I power on my computer it goes to automatic repair which fails every time
and prompts me to reset my pc. But that doesn't work either. So I'm stuck in this loop of failing automatic repairs. And windows 8.1 can't be installed on any partitions because they are MBR and not GPT. But I've already done this once and this wasn't a problem
so I can't see why they would switch to MBR.
Thank you.

My primary disk drive crashed. I removed it from the system and got a new hard disk, an SATA which my bios could not detect as bootable. LSS I removed it and installed still another hard drive. A Maxtor 91366U4. It is totally empty.

I installed it. Checked the jumpers to insure that it is a master. Now when I try to install windows XP It goes thru the installation and crashes (blue screen) before it will install anything on the HDD. It says to check the drive with Chkdsk/f. I booted off the XP CD and went to the repair console and did a Chkdsk /R (same as /f but for XP) it checks out fine.

I have removed the SATA controller and HDD from the system. There is nothing on the system that wasn't ther before. I removed the printer, scanner and other devices so it wouldn't have to deal with them on the initial install.

But it still gives me the blue screen on install. It never even reaches the first reboot.

Any help would be appreciated.

The blue screen gives me:

I have a problem trying to reinstall windows xp. First the symptoms. Computer shut down during a defrag and since then it has been a little slow. All of a sudden when I try to start outlook windows installer starts and tries to install office service pac 1 but asks for the cd and i never had it. Now it won't repair office, all other office products work ok, will not start in safe mode (freezes up) and will start nomally but takes a long time and ever since I tried to repair xp it does a chkdsk and finds about 40 file record segments that are unreadable. and stalls there unless I bypass the chkdsk. I can't boot from the cd as it stalls after it checks the drive. I can't defrag the drive. I also checked for a virus just before any of this happened and had my definitions up to date and all was ok. This hard drive is on a dual boot system with win 98 on the other drive and it runs fine. Any ideas??????
