I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Specs first:

e6700 3.2 GHZ.
4GB Patriot extreme ram (4 x 1GB) @ 800MHz and 4 - 4 - 4 - 12 T2 (T1 causes BSOD ).
XFX 8800 GTS
Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe w/ ver 5## BIOS (Possibly a custom one from the OEM).

My computer is working fine, excpet for one minor detail...

My Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe doesn't like my new 4GB of 800MHz ram. The ram is fine. XP 32 bit runs fine with only 2-3 GB in use, but Vista Ultimate 64-Bit is terrible, running at least 5 times slower and maxing out the processor and freezing a couple of minutes just to open Fire Fox. I am considering buying a new mobo, but I heard there is another way.

Some people have gone into their BIOS and enabled an option called "Memory Remapping," which fixed the problem. The catch is: My BIOS doesn't have that option for some odd reason... Surprise, surprise after my cellphone provider had to send 2 SIM cards to me for the phone to work and my External Backup HD had failed just a couple of months after I bought it(Goodbye 100+ Gigabytes of data).

I checked the manual that went with my mobo, and the bios version in the manual and on my computer were EXACTLY the same! Though, the menu in the Manual had many more options than did the one on my computer. So, I go to Asus's website and download the latest official (not beta) driver. Then, I pop in the Asus CD that came with my mobo and tried to run "Asus Update". Every time I run this I get an error message: "Unable to create NT driver... Read more

What does this mean?

A:American Megatrends

This means that the hard drive is about to fail. S.M.A.R.T is a utility that monitors the health of the hard drive and reports any potential problems, like an early warning system. When it says "S.M.A.R.T Status Bad" This is not a good thing. Does it give you an option to bypass and get to Windows? If so backup your important data.

S.M.A.R.T Status Bad , Backup and Replace
System wil shut down in 15 seconds!!!

A:American Megatrends message unknown

OK, you are running the system overclocked. Not too much however it shows both ram and cpu running faster than normal. It is probably the board failing however the very first thing I would do would be to return ALL settings to stock. Clear RTC [cmos] to return settings to stock. Once you clean RTC, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical. Now disconnect any usb device ie printer, scanner, external drive, etc.

Pw ON and see if the board will successfully complete POST.

Remember there is NO safe overclock. All overclocking entails some degree of risk.

Ok, so before you reply, please make note that I didn't build this pc myself, it was custom built in a company by order. I don't know a thing about inside of computer. Of course, I know the main parts, but repairing or tinkering, nooo.

Pc specs:
Intel i5-2400 3.1 Ghz Quad Core
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 550ti Graphics Card.

The thing is, in my opinion, this pc is properly cooled and built, because I've been having it for almost a year and I've never had this problem before.

So okay, I got back home and turned on my pc. And I noticed a problem. My video was slow. Videos on youtube were slow and choppy, I tried like moving windows and their movement was slow. At first I thought its a video card or monitor problem and I tried rebooting my pc. When I pressed restart, before booting windows, the computer shows the window:
American Megatrends

(Computer info)

CPU over temperature error!
Press F1 to continue setup.
Is it really overheated? Because I've never had this problem before, I didn't had it the other day I was using it and I'm using it a lot. What to do? I really can't just open up the case and see the problem, I'm not that experienced.

A:American Megatrends - CPU Over Temperature ERROR

Why can't it be overheating? Things do break, or come loose, and they can get dirty too.

Download HW Monitor and see what the CPU/Core temps are, for that matter check all the temps. Best would be to post a screen shot of HW Monitor.

HW Monitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

If the computer is truly overheating then it will need to be opened up to see why.

Hello, experts!
For the past few weeks, I've been seeing the AMI screen everytime I turn on my computer. It wasn't like that before, so I have no clue why it's showing up now. I pressed f1 and f2 numerous times and went through every session, still I cannot find the problem of why it keeps appearing during startup.

Since I just received a new computer this April, I'm not very familiar with the new AMI then I was with Windows XP. Instead, I used screen-shot to show my AMI screen. I hope this will help!

A friend of mine came to me with this problem. He has an American Megatrends motherboard and can't get it to boot past the Checking NV RAM.. part

here is what is on the screen when it freezes
American Megatrends
TYAN TSUNAMI AT V2.00.01 012520001800
Intel 440BX AGPset

P II, 400Mhz
Checking NVRam..

then down at the bottom of the screen it says

What we have done:
Switched PCI video card to another PCI slot
Disconnected everything but the floppy/cd/harddrive
Reseated the RAM, switched RAM slots, and tried different RAM modules with ones that are known to work.

He says 1 time it made it past checking NVRam (where it counts the RAM) and then froze when it first said hit del to enter BIOS.

Edit: He also remembered that when he first booted he had 3 RAM modules in and all it would say is American Megatrends with the logo and that was it, so he removed 2 and left 1 and thats where we are now.

2nd Edit: When I asked him what happens when he tries it with no RAM he says "nothing, it beeps".

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next? Could it just be that the motherboard is bad where the RAM fits?

A:Problems getting to POST on American Megatrends MOBO

Alright - I just recieved word that it now works. Which leads me to believe that even though it appeared we had the RAM set properly it wasn't.
Now it boots into Win98 and just gives the usual errors when you don't have proper drivers installed and such, I'm going to let him work on that on his own because I think he has a pretty good handle on getting that set straight.
(he pulled this PC together from scrap parts so even getting this thing to run is a plus for him)
I'll post back with any other motherboard related problems that might crop up.

hi folks. good day to you all. my name is max. i can install windows and manage basic troubleshooting related to software without any problems. a couple of months back i installed windows xp on my friends computer and it was working fine but a month after installation, when he booted the comp up, he would get the startup options msg (safe, normal and so on) instead of windows booting up normally. when he tried to boot it up in any mode, the windows xp loading logo would just appear and windows just kept restarting. i thought it might be a software problem ,so i made a fresh install of xp and it was working fine . but now once again the same problem seems to have occured. this screen pops up when he starts the comp. i have included the image he sent me (its a bit blurry but you can make out whats on it). i searched about it and as you can see in the image, the problem seems to be about CMOS settings. now, from what i have learned so far after researching about it is that its either the CMOS battery that has lost its charge, died, or maybe its just a CMOS (or bios? not sure) settings problem. can you guys please take a look at the image and tell me what exactly is wrong and what steps i would have to take to fix his problem? thank you in advance.

Here's the problem: When I start my computer, I'll get a black screen with a bunch of text with "American Megatrends" as the header. The screen is unusual, and on the bottom it says "CPU fan error!, press F1 to continue." If I simply press f1 and ignore it, my computer eventually shuts off, and restarting my computer doesn't get my display back, I have to reset my cmos.

Things that I've tried: Now, I had this problem before, and my computer doesn't have a cmos switch, so I had to take out the battery for a couple minutes, and that worked.
Today I woke up to have the same problem. Only this time, when I took out the battery and put it back, the problem persisted.
So I tried entering my system setup and set "CPU fan speed" to ignore, that still did nothing.

So I'm aggravated, annoyed and helpless. Any help would be appreciated.

My secondary computer is very old (2001), and I am trying to overclock it in its final days of use. My BIOS is made by Award, and is dated back to 2000. I have no idea what to do, can anyone help me?

A:Help with overclock in BIOS

The first thing you will want to do is update your BIOS. You can go to your comp manufacturer's website and see if there is a newer BIOS available or if you know your mobo make and model you can go to their website and check for an update. For our information you will want to post your secondary sys specs (I didn't look in your profile to see if you had it listed there).

After you update your BIOS there may be some options to overclock.

Hi, im new to the concept of overclocking, i dont really want to atempt it but i do have a question. Is it possible to overclock CPU without using BIOS? When i go inside my CMOS setup i cant go into CPU settings.

A:Is it possible to overclock CPU without using BIOS

Hi kato

It is is possible however I will be providing you with an answer that will not make you happy.
The best way to approach your concern is to obtain an "overclocking-friendly" motherboard, if your existing motherboard bios has the CPU and voltage settings locked. This is common for OEM vendors. Aside for voiding warranties on your existing hardware, your vendor will not provide any further support on your system if things started heading south as a result of a software-overclock etc.

There may other posters (Guru's and experienced), on this forum, who may advise you as to how best to achieve what it is you are after.

It's typically not a good idea to overclock if you don't know the basics; there's only so much we can tell you before you dive in. firstly, make sure your cooling system is up to par in order to cope with the additional power that the processor needs to consume. second, post the speed and timings of your RAM and brand if you know. CPU-Z can display memory information...

I don't know what your problem is. I have used 1.20 with no problems.

Hi, I read this article :http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...242#post528242
I'm trying to flash my bios so I can get (max)1.3v and overclock it!

So I set my Exact Mode volts to 1.3 already all of them. Then I went to VID as you can see in photo,
and made them all 1.3v
Then I saved it (already did the 1st step of entering all my clock values in clockrates tab).
Then I closed and re loaded it just to check and look :

In Exact Mode volts they are all 1.3 as I set them but in VID it all turned into 1.2 and all the other options are ???v for all 3 of the volts and options...

Well I tried with this option anyway and it worked
But in WIndows XP Sp3 and Atitool I get this :
Some error message?
When I put my cursor over the warning sign it says :
"Core frequency 0.00Mhz is outside clock safety range."
But with GPU-z All my cores are the same as original.
What is going ?

So as the article suggest I got the RiverTuner 2.22 and installed it.
But before using it I tried a new setting with Nibitor.
Everything is the same even Exact Mode Vs, all to 1.3v. Except I didn't touch VID Mode.
So it is

Voltage 3 : 1.2v 2 - 1.2v
Voltage 2 : 1.3v 1 - 1.3v
Voltage 1 : 1.1v 0 - 1.1v

These are default and current settings as changing
it to 1.3v didn't work as I showed the previous photos.

Well then I tried overclocking :

(sorry image is bit stretchy don't know why!)
Anyways If you look at Riva Tuner
864 / 1855 / 1100 clocks right?
But if you look at other 2 too... Read more

Im not really into computers untill recently i purchased a new dvd burner but copying movies for slow super slow (dvd shrink 3.2) so i decieded to go and buy a new computer (better then my compaq 700mhz. what turned out to buying some a bit better turned into an expensive system. and now i got all this cool stuff i want to do get into computers again.

IM trying to over clock my computer. but im not sure how now the msi board ms-7030 comes with bios feature called core cell. but when i attempt to over clock my xp starts to boot then the comptuer resests out of the blue. also it comes with over clocking software right inside of windows something called cool and quiet and that reboots my computer after a couple of minutes.

i built my computer from scratch and im wondering two things did i not do something right or is there something i dont know about. like i said i know a lot about computers but i dont dabble in that stuff no more and im quickly realizing my knowledge is outdated.

i also bought a chip of 400 mhz 3200 ram but it always says bus speed 200 mhz. my processor is the amd 64 3000+ and my graphics card is the ati 9600. I was reading a little thing about over clocking and i noticed a lot of emphasis on ram. my ram is the corsair bargain ram crap they got on there site. could ram be my cause. my ram boots up at 2.5 3 8 2 2t i dont know if that helps.

The last thing sometimes even with my bios set to whats called fail safe mode (basically everythin... Read more

A:Help With Bios needed after attempted overclock.

Hi topps and welcome to TechSpot

all you should have to do is clear CMOS. this will reset your BIOS back to it's default settings.

most motherboards have a CLR CMOS jumper. if your does, then turn your computer off and move the jumper into the CLR position for a few seconds, then move it back into the NRM (normal) position. then turn your PC back on.

if your mobo doesn't have a jumper, than you will have to remove the CMOS battery for a few seconds. both methods will clear the CMOS and reset your BIOS.

cheers

Hi. In my neverending quest to make an ancient PC run the ever inefficient badly coded game "maplestory", i have decided to try to maximize my bios settings to see if i get anything.

My intention isn't to really overclock the heck out of my system, but i would like to know what are the most optimal settings if possible. though i wouldn't mind OCing a teeeeny tiny bit if it helps.

PCChips M963G+
Socket 478 CPU
SiS 661FX/964 Chipset

Intel Celeron 2.2 ghz
Bus Speed 100
Rated FSB 400
128kb L2 cache

Kingston PC3200 (200mhz)
2 sticks of 1024

ATI Radeon 9600XT Lite 256MB DDR1/128bit
history: this was originally a eMachines T2240 whose Mobo died. I bought the pcchips mobo, and swapped it, and to my surprise, it started up without me having to format or reinstall the OS. i upgraded everything else but the cpu and heatsink are stock.
i know very little about overclocking. (ok i'm lying, i know nothing >.<).

as i mentioned earlier, i'd "like" to OC, but i'd be content with just making sure all my Bios settings are in tip top shape first. I am under the impression that the default settings, which i haven't messed with since i put this together, are not optimal.
For example, I noticed my AGP data rate was set to "auto" or "4x" (i forgot) in my bios when the mobo can handle 8x. (so i switched it to 8x) and I read that my CPURAM RATIO should be 1:1 but the defaul... Read more
