Preferred Solution: will bios password effect loading two seperate os harddrives on laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I found that once I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I had to use my Email account to Log In to my PC.
The User has to have a Windows Account (Mine is originally Hotmail - Live - Outlook).

I can not stand having the same Password and account info from my Email account the same as my PC.

I had to reinstall Windows 8 and then I was able to use a Personalized & Custom User Name & PC Password.

*This coincides with certain software I use when I install the same titles on multiple PCs. *(Serif - WebPlusX6 - I use a common User Name and file location).

***I will not tolerate having to be constricted to a Windows Account that makes me use the same password and user name for my Email Account and my PC.

*****Therefor, WINDOWS 8.1 is useless to me at this time.

P.S. I still get rapid boot times and custom features from Windows 8. *I assigned the Power Button where the old *Start button would be & pinned shortcuts to my task bar to navigate to apps I use frequently.

A:Seperate Windows Account, Email Password From PC Password

Hello Majestone, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You can sign in to Windows 8 with any "local account" or "Microsoft account" you want.

You do not have to setup a "Microsoft account" when installing or setting up Windows 8.1. A trick to this would be to temporarily disconnect the internet when you get to this point to then be able to setup a "Local account" instead.

If you want a Microsoft account, then you could have two Microsoft accounts, and use one to sign in to Windows 8 with and the other for your emails.

Either way, you could easily switch to a local account afterwards.
Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8
...or switch back to any Microsoft account you wanted instead.
Microsoft Account - Switch to in Windows 8
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey, first post!

I'm trying to fix a vaio laptop at the moment and am a bit stuck

The screen doesn't go past the vaio. It just before the windows logo would normally appear. I tried using the windows 7 cd to try a repair or cmd/chkdsk etc, but the OS wasn't found/listed. I also tried to do a clean install and the HD wasn't detected by windows 7 setup. I also tried booting up with ubuntu and the HD still wasn't detected.

Can I assume this is a busted HD?

Should I still shoot for a bootage diagnostic cd for the hard drive?

Thanks,
Blue

A:Vaio laptop not loading past bios. HDD problem?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums...

Enter BIOS and check HDD is shown or not? Try to set BIOS default values. If the HDD is visible then make it the first boot device and then CD/DVD and reboot.

Finally try to boot with a Linux on CD and check the HDD. Or download UBCD4Win or Hiren's CD and run chkdsk on the HDD.

I recently upgraded my motherboard from an 'ASRock N68C-S' to a 'Asus M5A78L-M/USB3'
The motherboard worked for approximately a day and a half, then the LAN socket stopped working, then the entire board stopped working. Just my luck, it turned out to be faulty, I sent it back for a refund and bought the same model again.
I received the new motherboard and installed it, and everything seemed fine. After over a week's usage, the LAN socket is working and performance in general is great... except one annoying and worrying thing...

I have 3 hard drives and 1 DVD drive.
Every morning, when I turn on the computer, at least 1 of these things is not detected in the BIOS and so they are unusable.
With the power off (by the mains) I disconnect undetected drive's sata cable an plug them into a different port on the motherboard. There are 6 ports, and then inexplicably it works.
But every day, after not using the computer for 8 - 10 hours (the time that I am asleep), I have to remove the case and route around...

Unfortunately, because Asus are ****, I cannot download all of the drivers I need for the motherboard on their site because I run Windows 8 64bit, for which they have less than a quarter of the drivers compared to other OS's
I have been able to update the BIOS though.
This hasn't helped.

The most obvious cause is another faulty motherboard, because I'm not the luckiest person... this type of **** happens to me.
However, on separate ... Read more

I was trying to help out a friend of mine a little while ago with a laptop that her son left to her. I cant remember the model, but I do remember it was a dell. Anyways, the laptop had a bios password on it and she is no longer in contact with her son, so she could not get the password. I know that on a PC that there are ways to reset the password by removing the battery or by the jumpers, but I have never found a solution to reseting a bios password on a laptop. I even went as far as to breaking down the laptop and actually desoldering the cmos battery and leaving it out for several minutes, but when I soldered the battery back in and reconstructed the laptop it still asked me for a password and will not even attempt to access the hard drive until I provide that password.

I no longer have the laptop in my possession because I gave it back to her, but I don't like to fail on projects like this and it has been bothering me ever since. So, I was wondering for my own knowledge if anyone knew any way to get past it.

Also, I did say bios password but I wasn't totally sure if it was because the password was to access the hard drive, not the bios.

A:laptop bios password

Have you tried to get into BIOS (using the BIOS key?). If you can get into bios then there is no bios password, you may have a boot password or hard drive password. There may be a built-in backup password that may be able to override that password. Sometimes removing the battery doesn't always work as the password can be stored in flash memory in which case it needs no power to rememberit. Have you looked for a CLR_CMOS jumper on the board before you put it back togeather? This will reset the bios to default. You must jump those prongs then turn the laptop to clear.

I would first look for a default password, then try getting into bios using the bios key and then finally open it up. Laptop is useless without a password.

Ok before I get with my problem, here is the info about my laptop:

1GB SDRAM (2 512MB Chips Max)
60GB hard drive
XP Pro (SP3)
802.11G wireless
Motherboard: K3V MB 03241-1M 48.43G03.01M
Here is my problem:

This is the 2nd motherboard of this system that I've had.. The 1st motherboard is bricked because I was doing a BIOS upgrade and it didn't take so it is now shot.. This motherboard I bought off of E-Bay from a genteman in Florida.. The issue is that the BIOS is password protected and I don't have the password.. When I was buying this motherboard, the gentleman said that he too did not know what the password was.. He just buys laptops and parts them out.

I've tried calling the A-Open tech support, and also the State of Missouri Department of Insurance.. The reason I called the 2nd company is because there was a sticker at the bottom of the case that had their name on it.. A-Open tech said that there was no way to reset the BIOS password without having the one that was put in there.. Hence me calling the State of Missouri Dept. of Insurance.. I'm still waiting for a return call from them becuase I left a voice mail on their Tech's phone, on January 27th, 2009, stating who I was and how I came to getting this item that had their sticker on the bottom.

I've looked all around online and have heard of "backdoor passwords&... Read more

For the record, let's get this straight. You messed up your mother's computer, you scared she'll find out. But in no way can the come close to "Help help life and death emergency". So let's leave the drama out! You should also never post personally identifying information such as the ID and tag numbers of her machine. You have now also put her system at risk.

Quite frankly, unless you were specifically given permission to get into the BIOS as a means of repairing the operating system, you should not have entered it at all.

You can look on the follow site for help witht the BIOS problem:
