Compaq Presario C554TU wireless whitelist?

Q: Compaq Presario C554TU wireless whitelist?

Hello world,Recently I've bought a 2nd hand Compaq Presario C500 machine for the insane amount of ?25. I had some ram laying around so I buffed it to 2 gigabytes and decided it will do juuuust fine as a replacement for my almost dead Acer Travelmate 2420 laptop which was used as a small server. Replaced the 80 gigs drive with 800 gigs one. Installed everything I needed - great. Laptop is flying it.System: Host: andrzejl.eu Kernel: 4.6.3-1-ARCH i686 (32 bit gcc: 6.1.1) Desktop: N/A dm: N/A Distro: Arch LinuxMachine: System: Hewlett-Packard (portable) product: Presario C500 (GC193PA#ABG) v: F.24 Chassis: type: 10Mobo: Hewlett-Packard model: 30C6 v: 78.10 Bios: Hewlett-Packard v: F.24 date: 04/25/2007The only thing that I didn't liked about it was / is the wireless card.Network: Card-1: Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN driver: b43-pci-bridge bus-ID: 06:00.0 chip-ID: 14e4:4311So I've decided to replace it. Mainly because its a) B43 chipset b) not working with N band.I've purchased this card:http://www.ebay.ie/itm/300893674625?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITWhen it arrived I quickly popped the little hatch at the bottom of the laptop, swapped the cards and was pretty dang happy with myself just until I saw the fadoodled "104 - Unsupported wireless network device detected. System halted ? remove the device and restart? error. So I've decided to upgrade BIOS from version F.15 to version F.24 to see if the card was added in the meanwhile. Last night I popped the original HDD into the machine and booted into the 32-bit Vista. Got the bios from here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/compaq-presario-c500-notebook-pc-series/3318986/mode... And flashed it, but that unfortunately did not fixed the issue. So... I am here asking for your help. Where do I get the list of all supported wireless cards for this beast? I don't want to play with the "BIOS hacking", neither do I want (I will do it if I REALLY have to) to install BIOS hacked by somebody else. I have trust issues . I would prefer to just buy a supported non-b43 wireless card (Atheros chipset proffered) with N band support and be done with it. Thanks in advance. Regards. Andrzej

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

Hi,

I'm using Presario V6000z with Windows XP Sp2. Some days ago, I "hibernate" it, and then wake it up. Waited for so long but the wireless LED never turn blue again. In the Device Manager there's no list item called Broadcom in Network Adapters like before. The specification at www.hp.com: http://search.hp.com/redirect.html?...io+v6000&oc=3230698&oc=3230698&ocr=21&ocrs=21

Please tell me how to fix it? Is it possible to replace the wireless card/chip only or I have to replace the mainboard?

I switched off the wireless slider, installed the driver for it. Then I searched in the C:\Windows and saw this file, bw.log. In this file, it said the broadcom is detected, don't know why it doesn't appear in the Device Manager.

I have a Compaq presario. I bought it about 11 months ago and I am having my first real problem with it. I was using my wirless card the other day and it worked fine. I turned the computer off properly and when I turned it back on later the next day the card did not work. The driver doesn't even exist. I have re installed the drivers and still nothing. I have a switch in the front of my computer which is red when the card is off and blue when the card is on. When I switch the card into the on position nothing happens. It stays red. I have restored it to last months back up and it still doesn't exist. please help me!!!

I have a Compaq Presario 700 to which I added a Netgear MA111 wireless adaptor. The systray icon tells me I am connected with a strong signal, but I cannot get onto the internet, nor can I see any wireless networks when I follow the help instructions - everythings seems grayed out.

I know the name of the network I can join and the password for it, but I never seem to be able to find a way to do this - which I think is why I am not able to connect. I am not a complete novice, but I am a very frustrated one. Is there something in a config or other system file I need to do to be able to see wireless networks? Any help is appreciated

A:Can't see wireless networks - Compaq Presario

Dont use the Netgear software to connect, use the windows zero configuration to do this. I have never liked the connection software that netgear uses. You can do this by opening the network connections (Start>Control PAnel>Network Connections) and right click your wireless card, then select "View available wireless networks. If it gives you a prompt saying that the Windows Zero Configuration is disabled, go to Start>Run and type Services.msc, then hit ok. Find in the list Windows Zero Configuration and right click it. Select "Start", then open the "View Available" again. Post results

You need a standard USB wireless device like this:

Install the software and plug it into a USB port when told to by on-screen instructions. Secure the wireless network by providing a password. Done... Simple

Hey dudes, i was wondering if you could help me figure out what's going on here, though i might already have a guess, i'd like to get opinions as well as solving matters.

I'm helping my friend solve a problem with her laptop where her Compaq Presario v3119AU suddenly just stopped detecting the wireless card, even in device manager.

Now, we've tried reformatting, running it in linux or win vista and I've even gone so far as to take out her wireless card to test it in my laptop, and to test mine on hers only to get the same results, that the card isn't detected in her compaq, whereas her Broadcom Wireless works on my ASUS laptop...

I'm suspecting that over time of her using the laptop on the bed or so that the board has somewhat cook off... probably... any input on this? so far the only option i see now is to head it back to compaq...

hamsteyr, i'm sorry, this is first symptoms of northbridge dying(nv6150go). the problem is that nv6150go makes some disturbances in pci-ex bus,and thus preventing the wireless card from detection. well, you an try to update your bios, it may help. i had 10 or 20 cases like this in my repairing practice. 5 laptops were cured(completely?) with BIOS reflashing. the others - nv6150go/nf-spp100 replacing.

I'm working on my friend's Compaq Presario 1930 laptop, an oldie with Win98SE. I had him buy this wireless card, but I can't install the drivers. According to the info with the card, it needs a minimum CPU of 500 Mhz and 128 MB RAM. The laptop only has around 300 Mhz CPU capability and 64 MB RAM.

So I'm hoping someone here has experience with older laptops and can recommend a card that will work with minimal resources.

Thanks in advance!

I like to use a wireless mouse with my new laptop occasionally. Whenever I unplug usb adapter and replug, the laptop wants to install the drivers. I take the adapter out sometimes so it doesn't get broken off with a stupid move - if it's not possible to synchronize, I'll just have to live with the installation of drivers all the time. My 2nd question is - is that ok to do?

I use a Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000, which has a reciever that only protrudes from the side of my laptop about 1/4". This is used on a Dell Ispiron 1525. When I do unplug it and plug it back in it activates the driver. But this is not detrimental to the system at all. I do not like using touch pads so I normally leave this reciever plugged in all the time even when I bag my laptop up for transport.

Hi

I have been given an old(ish) Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC by a friend and whilst it appears to connect to my Belkin wireless router it cannot connect to the internet. My wireless network is located by the notebook but there is a red X between the "unidentified network" and the internet symbol.

I have tried to connect before and after reformatting the notebook but to no avail. I have looked at a number of threads here and tried a few things suggested for other people with a similar issue but nothing works. I have restarted the router numerous times as well but still no luck.

The PC I am using to post this is connected via the same router and is working fine so what am I doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also not sure how to network the notebook and this PC as well.

Cheers T

Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario C300 notebook. I have excellent strength connection to the wireless connection at home (and if I try to plug in the cable, the wired connection works too). However, when I open a browser (IE and Firefox), it does not connect and comes with the standard error message of "...site could be temporarily busy, ...check your computer's network connection,......if your computer's network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I tried reinstalling the network driver, also the firewall settings but no luck. I have no clue how to solve this problem because my other laptop and PC are working perfectly fine and so I feel it is THIS laptop's problem.

Thanks in advance,

Try booting to Last Known Good or Safe Mode.

Restart the computer during the boot process repeatedly tap "F8" you should get

the Advanced Options.

Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)

If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.

However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.

A:Lenovo G460 - Wireless Upgrade/Whitelist

You should look at the parts list in your service manual.  This can be found online (see support tab on this page) under the documents for your notebook.  There are only a few options to choose from and if a desired device is not present in that list it will usually not be allowed by the BIOS.

Also - you should only purchase and install WiFi cards "branded" for Lenovo by Lenovo.  If it is stated to be compatible by seller but does not cary Lenovo branding it may not work in your notebook.

The "whitelist" idea was created to keep support options limited to a smaller group of known good and tested devices.  This minimizes complications with troubleshooting and online support agents knowledge of products.

Good luck.

I bought one HP laptop two years ago. The model of my laptop is HP Pavilion 15 e066tx. I found bluetooth is not supported by the default wireless card with the model Realtek 8188EE. So I wanted to change the wireless card by BCM4357. But when I booted the laptop after I changed the wireless card, it showed "104-Unsupported wireless network device detected." So I had to change the default wireless card back. I flashed the latest BIOS which was released at April 2014 but it was still no available. So I found there is a wireless card whitelist in the BIOS. If the model of the wireless card is not contained in the BIOS, it will never be supported. I think this laptop model is out of warranty, so I ask for remove the wireless card whitelist from the BIOS or add the model of BCM4357 in the BIOS. Thanks.

A:Wireless Network Card BIOS Whitelist

HP has never published a definitive list but by monitoring posts here from people like you and success and failure stories and our own experiments with our own HP machines it has been determined that HP abandoned the whitelist sometime in Q42013. Models with 4th gen Intel Core processors like yours are generally safe. I am about 95% sure you have no whitelist issues.  See p. 86 of the Manual here: Manual Just about the time HP abandoned the whitelist, however, they began selling laptops strung with a single wireless antenna cable. While the laptop no longer is blocked from booting with a non-HP card, the absence of a second antenna effectively prevents use of any very good wireless card, making upgrade efforts futile. The only way to know for sure if you have 1 or 2 antennae is to open it up. Models with the 802.11 b/g/n "low-end" wifi cards tend to have a single antenna. It is theoretically possible to add a second antenna lead but very difficult to do.  Don't shoot the messenger. Not my design, but this is the straight story.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have purchased a Compaq Presario 600 with an Athlon XP 2200+ processor. I do not have a copy of Windows XP to wipe it with. Is there any way with the installed XP that I can refresh this system and remove data frome previous owners? Or Can I load Win 98?

A:Compaq Presario 600 ??

Compaqs usually have a hidden partition with all the factory loaded software on it in an image format. As long as it does and you can figure out how to access it you could probable do that - but you almost likely need the XP Product key and may need to reactivate XP after the recovery. XP can only be install on one machine at a time - so if they are still using it you are out of luck.

Watch the boot up for any recovery messages or take a trip to www.Compaq.com and look up the info for your make/model.

I friend of mine purchased this Presario in 2004. She hasn't had internet since about 2006, so she hasn't had any of the updates since then. I brought her tower home with me since I have internet to load her updates. We're trying to get it internet ready. When I brought it home last week nothing would open. So yesterday she gave me the system recovery disc. I started with the Standard Recovery, but there were too many files that it couldn't recover. So I then decided to do a full recovery. After the full recovery it was rebooting and it told me that not all the system could reload and I couldn't hit okaybecause it wouldn't read / acknowledge my mouse. So, I unhooked her computer and rehooked mine to see what her alternatives were. I found a website, they wanted to know all the things it wouldn't oload. All I can remember is that it was things that could me downloaded later like: Norton, AOL, Adobe, MSN, and QuickTime.

So, I unhoked mine and rehooked her's up (and booted up my laptop). When her's came back up it's saying: NTLDR is missing Pres Control + Alt +Delete to Restart

My question for you is there anyway I can save her conputer? She doesn't have a lot of funds, being a singe mother of a 7 yr old and I'm just a good friend trying to help her out.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide

I decided to see what happened when I ctrl alt delete and then decided to do another recovery. Here's some more info (could not recover errors):
1. C:\WINDOWS\Help\SB\Training\WXPPer\Content\Wave\[email protected]
2. C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntdll.dll
3. C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntkrnlpa.exe
4. C:\WINDOWS\32\dllcache\dinput8.dll
5. C:\Windows\systme32\dllcache\licdll.dll
6. C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\locator.exe
7. C:\WINDOWS\system32\viaservc.dll
9. (Black screen instead of error message)
9. C:\WINDOWS\Installe152ec/msi
10. C:\WINDOWS\Installer\1b2cc.msi

then all of after about 20% a big blue screen with following:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. IF this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup... Read more

ok I hace a compaq that is all messed up. lets see one day the monitor would not work after a storm. Bought another, For a while the screen would be blue but change back to normal. The pc also would have a hard time starting up after it was in idle. We would do a hard start and for a while that worked. Now when I try to start it it turns on but the monitor says no vga/dvi input. There is also none of the preverable beeps that are supposed to be there so in short (well long)the motherboard is fried? So do I use it as a planter in the yard or is there a way to get it up and running. It runs on XP media center it has a micro ATX form factor motherboard it is also an AMD 64 Anthlon. ram is 256 mb 1Rx16 pc 4200 ddr2 533 mhz. With all that said can I just replace the motherboard and reinstall the reinstallation disks and be up and running? ( if it could only be so easy) What about the cpu. i know many questions here thanks for patients. Please help me. Tina

does your system have agp or pciex (or even pci) slot free? Is the graphics on board? It sounds like a graphics card problem, even if it is onboard. I'd try a replacement card (even if it's just a pci card) and see what happens...

Hey everyone, I am thinking about upgrading my M93p tiny's wireless capabilities (i.e. intel 7260 with wifi ac) and was wondering, if our desktop pc is subject to lenovo whitelisting for wireless hardware. Has anyone tried to achieve this or can any lenovo official answer me, if it will give me the infamous 1802 error.  Thanks in advance! M

I have a compaq presario. The bios are poop. Does anyone know if there is a way to update the bios with areal manufacturer? Or am I stuck with compaq's bios? It would be really nice if there was a way to find out who makes the bios for them and update it. Any info would be great. Thank you in advance!

A:Compaq Presario Bios

You need to get the BIOS from Compaq. While the board maybe MADE by another company, who knows what slight changes to the specs were made.

When you do your next upgrade, build your own and get a real BIOS.

Like working on a NEW Dell PC, almost NO Options, no Temp monitors nothing.. junk... its a DELL!

Hey all,

I have this older Compaq Presario 7470 CPU, and I can't figure out how to open it. It doesn't have any buttons that pop open the chassis, or at least any that I can easily spot. I got a memory upgrade for it, and would like to put it in. Anyone know how to pop this thing open? Please email me or just reply here. Thanks!

Thanks,
Matt

Appreciate some assistance.

Anyone know how much memory the Compaq Presario EZ 2605 (out of the box) had?

Believe its processor is an Intel Celeron 633MHz.

Trying to help someone out who knows very litttle about computers and cannot tell me how much memory the pc has. (He does not understand how to look up the info in My Computer/Properties, etc.)

Asked Compaq a week ago, but still no answer.

Hello - I am attempting to get an old Compaq Presario 9546 that I obtained work correctly. I am, however, at a loss to figure out what the heck is wrong. When you boot the computer, it does the RAM check, and appears to skip past all BIOS functions (I can't go into BIOS setup... it does not exist) and then all it says is "Non system disk, please replace and press any key" - which, BTW, I have no disk in at all. When I DO put in a system floppy, it will boot from the floppy but not aqnowledge that anything else but the floppy is hooked up to the computer (I have 2 hard drives and a CD rom drive - all with the correct jumper settings). Any ideas? If I could just get BIOS to come up, I could probably fix it myself...

Its a presario 5000, i ran the belarc advisor tool to see what kind of memory i have, it said i have PC133, so i ordered some more, well, for the heck of it, i removed the memory in it to clean the board and the sticker on the factory memory says PC100!! so will PC133 memory still work with this thing even though it has PC100 in it now?
thanks!
