Preferred Solution: My Comp Wont Turn On When My Printer Is Plugged In Via USB Cable

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I have T450 (20BU-S08U00), and I face this very annoying issue sometimes: I turn off the charged laptop, grab it with me, and when I try to power it on later (on battery), it ignores me completely. I press power button, remove the battery (my model does not have the internal battery, so I can remove it easily), etc; whatever I do, it behaves like a brick. When I get home, I just plug the power cable, the power button led blinks a few times, and after that I can even remove the power cable immediately, and it will turn on normally when I press the power button. So, somehow the laptop gets stuck, and the only way to kick it is to plug the power cable (which might be immediately removed back). Could anyone please share some ideas how to fix that? Thanks

A:Charged T450 sometimes does not turn on unless power cable is plugged

Do you have the latest BIOS?  If not, try that first.

Are you still under warranty?  If BIOS update doesn't fix it, the power circuitry may be sick.

I have my iPod hooked up to my frontal Firewire port. While I had my computer on I stupidly unplugged the firewire withouth "safelly removing the hardware". As soon as I did this my music started distorting badly, shortly after the monitor shut down. I could not do anything I then had to hold in the power button to shut down the computer. The computer is now off the firewire cable is unplugged and now my computer will not turn on. Pressing the power button does nothing at all.

I am using a PC running XP, It's brand new with great parts.

I have no idea what to do your help is highly appreciated.

Thank You,

My parents have just bought a new Toshiba Satellite C855 -1J1, and it wont work unless it is plugged in. If it is on and you pull the power adapter out or in any way disconnect the power it will turn off. If it is turned off it will not turn on without the power adapter being plugged in.

I have checked to make sure the battery is inserted correctly and it is. The status of the battery is also showing that it is at 100%, but it will not work at all in anyway with just its battery and you can only get it to work with an external adapter to power it.

Before I take it back the shop does anyone have any idea what it may be.

Regards

A:New laptop wont turn on unless plugged in

I would take it back. Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

What you can do is check all the pins of the battery and battery plug-ins whether they look OK - but that's about all the diagnostics that come to mind.

I am on windows 7 64bit, I have listed in my speaker system 4 different devices

this is the order they are listed and their status also

Sharp HDMI - Disabled (unplugged) - I have to manually enable it when I want to plug my laptop to my tv

Speakers - Ready - Default Device

Headphones - Disabled, unplugged

Headset Earphones - Default Device when plugged in (otherwise not visable on list)

Here is the issue

If I were to plug in the Earphones Headset Earphones without the Sharp HDMI being disabled (but still unplugged) my laptop for some reason selects both Headset Earphones and Speakers, some sound comes out the speakers, others the Headset Earphone

If I disble the Sharp HDMI then when I plug the Headset Earphones in it swaps as it should to the Headset Earphones making them the default device and only the Headset Earphones work so when I pull the Headset Earphones plug it automatically switches back to the Speakers, this is how I want it to work but without having to disable the HDMI in order to do it.

would anyone hazard a guess to what is going on here?.. thanks

A:Speakers wont turn off when headphones are plugged in

In most cases (all that I've seen), the HDMI is inactive unless an HDMI cable is plugged into the PC.

The normal (and usual) speaker/headset mode is the speakers are muted when a headset is plugged in. Some RealTek control panel's will allow reconfiguring this so that either the speakers are muted (normal) when headset is plugged in or speakers are still active when a headset is plugged in.

If you haven't done it, install the latest AMD (ATI) drivers for the HD3450 and see if that makes any difference. Also check your RealTek HD Audio Manager (assuming you have one) to see if there are any speaker options that could affect what is happening. There are different RealTek versions, depending on the PC or motherboard vendor (in your case you should be using ASUS supplied RealTek drivers).

If you're lucky it's just the power supply. Worst case scenario? Everything in it is fried.

Hi Igli and welcome to the Techspot Forum

First its a Hard Drive not a hard driver, from your post I can only guess that the 71GB Hard Drive has failed, either mechanically or electronically.

Suggestions, go to the maufacturers website and download the test tool for the drive in question and test it, sorry to say if the test tool finds it faulty then all your data is gone.

any suggestions??

A:New comp wont turn on

Don't worry this happens all the time! Remember to power off before disconnecting anything. Do you get any beeps? 1 beep is good - more beeps is bad and can tell you what is going wrong.
First take out the motherboard and make sure that there not too many stand-offs; any extras can short out the board.
If this is OK, check you have all the front panel connections on the right pins - an LED connection on the reset button for example will stop it booting.
If this still does not sort it, disconnect everything and take out all the cards except the front panel and power supply cables. Does it boot? Reconnect one thing at a time and that will tell you what is causing the problem.
Get back to us!

Well my computer doesn't turn on anymore. It was working fine and then the power cord of the surge got unplugged from the outlet. Needless to say the comp wont turn on anymore. I was wondering if its the psu or the mobo that has messed up. When I plug in the comp the steady power light turns on, on the mobo which i assume it means it receiving some type of power. But when I press the power button the led lights of comp flash on and then turn back off. So does anybody know if its the psu or the mobo that is damaged?

A:Comp Wont Turn ON is it the PSU or the Mobo

Probably Power Supply (hard to say really)

Just for a quick option:

Remove the power cord
Hold the On button in for 30 secs (releasing all internal voltage)
Put the power cord back in (securely)
Turn on (I hope)

ok, so lets start like this: i dont know too much about computers, but i did a little research. i know what the motherboard is and i know that the actual power button on the tower just sends the signal to switch on or off to the power supply unit... And i havent done anything to my computer recently just have gone online. So All i did was shut my computer down last night, and it WOULDNT TURN ON this morning.
- i already tried unplugging and plugging back in, and changed the the power bar. everything else on the bar works (my light, the monitor, the dsl box, and the speakers) except the computer base.
PLEASE HELP!!

I'm running a Prescott P4 3.2 gHz, 1.5 gigs of ram, nVidia 5500 card, on an ASRock Motherboard model p4v88, running WinXp sp2 and every single update...

Last night I shut down the system before I left with no problems. I haven't had *any* problems with it, really, as long as I've owned it. I take great care of it and it's been devoid of viruses or disk error or anything since I've had it (only 5 months). Also no BIOS updates in a long time, and no windows updates in a few weeks.

This morning I pushed power and the fans whirred up for maybe a half a second before the system turned off. I pushed power again and the same thing happened. I unplugged everything from the back but the power, same. I opened it up (unplugged) and pulled out the ram - same. Uplugged the harddrives - same. Cdroms/pci cards/video card/ etc., until the only thing that was plugged in was the motherboard. I'm still having the same problem. The little green LED on the front of the case remains lit even tho the sys isn't on. I think the PSU is okay... what the hell could the problem be? The computer was plugged into a surge protector so I don't think it got a shock. I haven't like spilled water on it or anthing.. ahh...

When using a ''Public connection'' in Windows 7 with a public wifi spot, if i go into Advanced sharing settings and click to turn off ''Network Discovery'' and ''File and Printer sharing'' and then click save changes they never stay turned off.
So i did the following - went to Start , Control Panel , Network and Internet , Network and Sharing Center and click the link for "Local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection" , "Properties", select "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and clicked the "Uninstall" button.
But still not turning off. Network discovery is always on aswell.

Is this something to be concerned about, and if so any awnsers? Maybe they cannot be turned off in ''public'' mode???

Thanks for any help!

You might see if you may be able to turn it off in the command prompt with the command in Option Two of the tutorial below. If it works for you, then you could create a .bat file with the command to make it easier to use as needed.

Hello,

Since last night, my LAN connection has been giving me the error "Network cable unplugged." I have tried swapping the cable with another, swapping the ports on the router, restarting the router, power cycling the router, turning off the router and my computer and then turning them back on, and nothing has worked.

My computer has two network connections: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and a Hamachi network, which the computer is using (but not getting Internet on, of course) - I assume because it isn't giving a network cable unplugged error. This is the network controller that comes on my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P motherboard, and it has the latest driver from the manufacturer's site (7.6.820.2009). In the device manager, it says that the device is working properly. There is a green light under the ethernet cable on the router, but not where it attaches to the motherboard (I can't remember if there was one before or not, though).

The Realtek Diagnostics Tool says the following:
IP Address 0.0.0.0
Connection NAme: Local Area Network
Link Status: Disconnected

It has a tab for Cable diagnostics, which says the following (Pair/Length/Status):

1-2 0 Normal
3-6 115 Normal
4-5 0 Normal
7-8 191 Short

When I run diagnostics, Register, Mac Loopback, PHY Loopback, IRQ, and FIFO all pass.

Printer on the Vista computer is "shared"...I don't know anything about networks
I use control panel: "add a printer" -> "A network printer" -> "Browse for printers" -> it shows some sort of window with icons that don't really mean much to me:

One category is called "Workgroup" and when I click it, the Vista name of the computer in the other room shows up, but nothing happens when I double click that. I connected to a wireless printer a long time ago this way when one was connected to an XP computer, and the actual name of the printer would show up.

Does anyone know how to do it?

A:Comp won't work after Ipod plugged in?

Hi JulienneSigma,

Welcome to TSF!

First thing, remove all USB storage devices (Yes, the iPod! lol)

Then try Last Known Good:

To load the last known good configuration in Windows 2000 / XP reboot the computer and as it's booting booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should
bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message as the computer is booting.
If this occurs instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key" tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Failing that, try Safe Mode:

To get into the Windows XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu".
Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing
and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

I.e on access comes up with the old cannot find the page issue, this is always resolved by clicking on the diagnose/fix option on the said browser page but it's a bit of a pain. How can i tell ie not to look down the hardwired link for the internet but to keep it's beedy little eyes on the wireless card, which by the way always shows connected and good strength ?.
I'm guessing that this is the issue of course !!!

I think I lost the driver for my TV when I was messing with the resolution. It said there was something plugged into the VGA, there was nothing in my VGA slot neither on my computer nor my TV. I restarted my computer, and now none of my video games will open. When I try to open RIFT, it says "Insufficient video card" and I can't play any other high quality graphic games. Before I messed with the resolution and the VGA thing, it worked perfectly fine. I'd like to know if I could get the driver back for my TV. Thanks for any help I get.

A:My TV has an HDMI cable plugged in, and it says it says VGA.

Just need to know what graphics card youre using and download and install again should solve the issue.

Hi, I've ordered several of the HP 250 G4 laptops for a primary school all using Windows 7 Pro.  Most of them are connected to interactive whiteboards using VGA cables.  The odd thing is none of the laptops will boot if the VGA cable is plugged in, not even the BIOS screen shows, its just a blank screen. If the VGA cable is taken out then the laptops can boot as normal and the VGA cable can be plugged back in and everything works. I've updated the BIOS on one laptop but the issue still remains, the teachers know now to remove the VGA cable first but am I missing something obvious here?   No other laptops in the school have this issue including some different HP models. Mnay Thanks.

Hi folks, I'm working on some of pc's in our school's computer lab. No, we have to do a lot of this work inhouse as we're struggling financially and can't always afford to get some IT people in here.
Anyhow, one of these pc's says that the plug for the network is unplugged and it's really isn't. I've also tried another cable from a pc I know works and I get the same thing. In fact, I'm using the cable from the pc in question.
What could it be?????
The pc is running XP SP1 with a 701Mgz Celeron and 120 Mb of RAM.
Please help and may God bless,
Peter

A:Network cable not plugged in?????

Could be the NIC on the problem PC just died. If the switch is actually located in a wiring closet, it could be the patch cable portion is unplugged from the switch, or unplugged from the patch panel. The other patch cords that would be involved in the above scenario could have become damaged. Could be that the switch port itself died.

If the cables and switch port(s) all turn out to be in working order, the NIC or Drivers on that PC have to be at fault.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

My HP Pavillion XT 936 gave me an error messge, that said my CPU fan was not working, and that it was going to shut off in 5 seconds to stop it from overheating...and it did shut right off.

I took it to my techno buddy, who sat it on his desk...and of course, it worked fine...I took it home, and it gave me the same error message and I looked inside...fan was off.

Dumbass me, wasnt thinking it had a thermostatic switch, and I Replaced the fan...plugged it in WITHOUT my monitor...and of course, NEW fan works perfect...runs with no problem, (just like the old one duh).

So. HEREIN lies the problem, The Second I plug my monitor in, I get the old error message and it shuts off in 5 seconds. Why does my computer hate my monitor?? HOW DO I FIX THIS???

hello and to start off i'd like to thank anyone who takes time to read this and try to help me out, thank you.

I'm running win xp sp2.

On July 1st an infected file was downloaded and run. AVG and Winpatrol noticed this and prompted the user to take action. The user checked to block all changes that the infected file tried to make, and deleted the file. Then music started to come from the speakers. All kinds of completly random stuff that is not installed on the computer. In task manager there was a file "c.exe" after ending this process the music stopped and it never came back. I don't know if it is related, but the next day the computer started to have problems.

Gaim 99% of the time hangs and timeouts when trying to connect a screen name. I do not have a firewall and windows one is disabled.

To get firefox to work, i had to open the browser, it wouldnt appear on screen but the process showed in task manager. Then i used task manager to end the process tree. Then when i opened the browser it would open but run slowly. This no longer works. Now when i click to open it nothing happens and the process does not show up in task manager.

Internet explorer works fine and that is what i'm using to write this. The computer was also having this overall lag with everything i'd try to do on it. Ex: open the start menu, open folders, etc. However as of this last computer restart, not that i've done anything to fix it, the computer runs at normal spe... Read more

Hello everyone!

So I've had this problem before and I went to a PC-Shop that fixed it by putting another driver on the PC.
But now I have a new PC and after 6 months without any problems Windows suddenly decides there is no ethernet cable plugged in the PC. I've googled for hours and hours trying diffrent things, but nothing seems to work . The cable itself is fine because when I plug it into my laptop it works fine. I've updated my driver, deleted it and try to reinstall, which also failed. I tried out some commands through CMD, which also failed. And now I'm at the point where I have no clue what to do, so I hope you guys can help me with it!
It is a custom-build PC with a Asus Z87-A motherboard (in-case that's necessary to know) and the driver that's installed is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. OS: Windows 8.1. If there is anything more you need to know feel free to ask!

Please help me! Thanks in advance!

A:Ethernet cable plugged in, Windows says not

Wrong driver most likely installed. Go to the Asus website and download the correct driver for your motherboard, for the Ethernet chipset.

Not sure if this is a hardware of software issue. Whenever I plug my APC UPS/battery backup cable into the PC's USB port, the computer does not the turn off the screen and go to sleep as per power management settings. It took me a while to figure this one out. When I unplug the UPS cable, the computer screen turns off and the unit sleeps as configured. So it's 100% caused by the USB port. For clarity, the cable I'm talking about allows the PC to communicate with the UPS to monitor voltage and manage shutdown in the event of a power failure. On the desktop, I run APCs PowerChute software. I have tried changing various power management advanced settings but it makes no difference. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I do want the keep monitoring the UPS and do want my computer to sleep.

Hi, I'm new to this forum so not sure if this is in the correct location. I have a problem with my HP ENVY 15-ae109na, when I plug it in, it often does not begin charging. The power suppy is connected correctly and the socket is on. To allow me to charge I have to turn the laptop off and wait some time, then it seems to charge again. This is a sporadic problem and has been going on for some time, I have previously tried to get it sorted with product support, they supplied a new cable but it did not resolve the problem. Due to my current work I am not able to call product support during their opening hours so I turn to you the HP community for help! Any suggestions are much appreciated

Hey I have a broadcom netxtreme 57xx built in ethernet to my dell computer with the latest drivers. The cables all plugged in, ive checked all connections and cables yet it still wont connect to the internet. There was a storm a couple of days ago could it be possible that the ethenet although it is intergrated into the motherboard is fried? In my IPCONFIG/All it reads
host name Singh2
Primary DNS suffix (nothing)
Node type Hybrid
IP routing avail. no
WINS proxy enabled no
Ethernet adapter Local area connection
Media State Media disconnected
Description broadcom netxtreme 57xx gigabit controller
physical address 00-18-8b-19-d1-89

Do i need to install a new NIC card or is there anyway i can fix this? Thanks
Oh an also my macbook connects fine using the same ethernet cable as used to connect to the pc above.

I don't know if I am posting this in the right area or not, but here goes.

Desktop computer (XP Prof) with Road Runner and wireless router. All working fine until one day when this icon pops up on the bottom of the screen showing 2 small monitors and a red X and says "Network Cable Unplugged". Cable is plugged in, but LED indicator light that is supposed to be on, isn't. Can still access the internet via the laptop & wireless connection though, so it is NOT the cable access. The connection comes & goes intermittantly. It seems to go when I really need to use that computer for something (printing something from online, b/c I don't have printer access from the laptop...that is a whole other issue). Is the ethernet card bad? Driver not right? I don't know a lot about this stuff, so I could be way off base. Hubby says this didn't happen until I got the wireless router (which is partially true), but all was well for almost a month. We did have a virus on the desktop and this problem did NOT surface until after I detected and tried to clean up with Norton INternet Security 2004.

ANy thoughts? Do I need to pay someone to look at/fix this?

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Last week, all of a sudden, I had to reboot a Win 2000 server on a network with about 9 PCs on it (2000 Pro and XP Pro) and now one of the PCs (a Win 2000) will not load all the way if the LAN cable is plugged in. It gets to "applying computer settings" and then hangs indefinitely. If I then unplug the LAN cable, it gets to the login screen and will load all the way as it should, and I can then plug in the LAN cable and it has all the network resources. This happens in every boot option except Safe Mode (without networking). Hardware check seems to yield no issues, could it be something in AD or the network settings on the server or PC? Where should I look/what should I look for? Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Johnny5

hopefully someone has some suggestions for this.
xp boots up normally and, seems, to run normally untill the ethernet cable is plugged in... at which point, everything locks up frozen.
i've tried updating drivers, removing drivers, scanning for any possible malware, swapping in an alternative graphics card.  defaulting bios.

i've also tried loading up linux via a usb, which also freezes as soon as the cable is connected.

A:xp locking up when ethernet cable plugged in

Hi  Ken

Is your issue related to your other thread? Was it resolved already? Since you've mentioned of ethernet, its possible that there is something wrong with your Ethernet adapter as it needs to be replaced/updated/reseatted properly and see if one of this would resolve the freezing issue.

Hi, I just built a new computer yesterday and I was using a usb wifi adapter. The wifi seemed a little slow to me so I wanted to switch to ethernet cable. I picked up a 50 foot cable at fry's and connected from the modem/router top my computer. I was told that connection would happen instantly but it didn't. I tried downloading drivers, messing around in settings, and removing the battery from my motherboard for a minute and putting it back in. The ethernet cable is not the problem since it works when i use it on the other computer that is currently on ethernet cable as well.

I'm running windows 7.
Motherboard is ASROCK FM2A88M-hd
