Q: x250 4k via mDP to HDMI

Hello, I try to set 4k on LG 27UD68-W, but I am not successful. I have latest display drivers and latest bios. But still, I may set only FHD. I use mDP to HDMI cable which supports 4k - tried it with MCB. I have WIN10-64b installed (updated from WIN8). I will be thankful for any tips.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm having an odd problem with a ThinkPad X250, connected to an Ultra Dock, and the HDMI output. On my monitor it works fine, without any issues, but on another monitor, specifically one attached to an Optelec ClearView HD device, it doesn't seem to work. The PC doesn't recognise anything being connected, and the monitor itself doesn't show anything on it. The next part is a bit long to explain, so apologies in advance: The problem monitor connects to a camera for the device, it uses a HDMI to DVI-D connection (the monitor only has a DVI-D or VGA input), and this works, the camera image is visible as expected. What should happen is that the HDMI input on the back of the camera control box can have a HDMI cable put into it from a PC (or laptop and dock in this case), and you can then flick between the camera and the PC input, but this doesn't work, instead when flicking to the PC it displays a black screen. Interestingly the control box doesn't give a red 'x' that it does when nothing is connected, so it knows something is there, but can't display it. To narrow the issue down, I tried connecting the HDMI to DVI-D connection that the camera uses to the Ultra Dock, and that didn't work either. As far as Windows is concerned for both connections (HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D) there's nothing there (I check on the laptop screen under display settings). I've called Optelec about it, and they've not had the same problem, but are looking into it. Hi, I have a 2+ year old Thinkpad x250 which I've connected to an external Philips 24" monitor, using a VGA to HDMI cable - VGA from the laptop to a HDMI port on the Philips.  This connection is used purely as an extender from my laptop.   This has been working perfectly till last week when I decided to replace the VGA-HDMI cable with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI version.  I thought I might as well utilise the DisplayPort on my laptop since it's there.   When the 2 devices were connected, the Philips couldn't be detected even with Display Settings on Windows 10.  I had to reinstall the monitor drivers and reboot, then all was good - till I shut the lid on my x250.  Upon opening up the lid, the Philips had disappeared from the extender profile and I had to repeat the setup process to get it to be detected again. Though this was really inconvenient, I put up with this for 2 more days before this whole process failed permanently.  Nothing I did could get the Philips detected.  What was more surprising was that going back to the old VGA-HDMI cable now didn't work either.  I repeated this whole cabling circus act with another good monitor and got nothing as well.  The only connection that would work now is a VGA-VGA cable and I'm in a worse (video) position than when I first bought my x250! I'm hoping someone out there may have seen this before and can give me some clues with troubleshooting.  ... I am considering buying an HDMI splitter to get around a problem I now have when streaming music only from the Internet. Currently I have about a 15 ft. cable running from the HDMI output on my computer to my Samsung TV. With this setup everything works fine. I can watch Youtube videos or Netflix movies. The thing that I don't like is that if I want to just stream music for several hours, I have to leave the TV on since the audio connection from the TV to my receiver is not a pass thru. It is only live when the TV is on. I am wondering if I can use an HDMI splitter to solve this problem. What I plan to do is to connect the computer HDMI output to the input on the splitter. Then use one of the splitter's outputs to go to the Samsung TV and the other one to go to my receiver via an HDMI-to-2 Channel Stereo Y-adapter. Just wondering if the connection to the non-HDMI device via the Y-adapter will upset the functioning of the splitter. What about the the EDID handshaking and HDCP signal that HDMI sources and displays need in order to function?

I've had my laptop connected to a TV through HDMI for years and it suddenly stopped working. The HDMI output is no longer listed as a playback device. It now shows spdif digital out via HP dock. The picture is fine but there is no sound. Also when you go to the playback settings screen the green lights are jumping next to the spdif which is set as default but there is no sound. I have tried everything if you do a Google search on this topic it seems like it is a common problem but there is no specific solution. I believe the HDMI playback device disappeared after the last Windows 10 update. The HDMI is not under hidden devices but it is listed under audio in the control panel.

My second X250 came in with a 16GB SanDisk SSD in addition to a 500GB HDD. Reading through the forum, a post mentioned that this 16GB SSD is placed in the position of the smart card reader. The mannual says this is a 3rd NGFF adapter. I am wondering if this 16GB SSD can be upgraded with a m.2 2242 32GB SSD module (or other types). I opened the back cover, lifted the internal battery, then lifted the shining metal cover a little and I don't see a memory module and port under it. I have installed Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on to this 16GB SSD; the Ubuntu install runs well except that only 1.5GB space left. I am trying to see if there is a way to replace this 16GB SSD with a larger size module. Using the m.2 port next to the WiFi card is my last resort. I need advice before taking more parts apart. Thank you.

I recently bought an X250, and immediately upon using it, found that the spacebar is not as responsive as all the older thinkpads I've had in the past. Specifically, when I type I press on the right side of the spacebar to create a space, but my usual amount of force is no longer responded to by the keyboard. If I push harder, it will respond, but that's annoying because it slows down my typing speed. If I press on the middle of the spacebar it works much better, and if I press it with my left thumb it works better, too. Does that mean I'm typing wrong all these years, or did I end up with a bad key?  I have depot service, so would Lenovo address this if I send it in? If I send this in, do I need to remove all the data on the machine? Would they replace the spacebar or the entire keyboard as I saw somewhere? How long would it take? Gotta say that the keyboard is much worse than the X230 that I am coming from. Thanks for any heads up!

Good morning everyone. I installed on my x250 (using a free WWAN slot) M.2 SSD disk - ADATA Premier SP600 256GB M.2 SSD. First installation: April 2016. The disk worked great. After a "BIG windows10 update" the drive began to freeze and died on August 2016. The drive was replaced with a new one. On March 2017 the problem returned (in the new disk) - again began to freeze and died. From here my question arises - did I make a mistake somewhere? Do dear forumers who did similar installations on their x250 have similar problems? What can I do to prevent the problem on the third drive? During installation I did not mix anything in BIOS etc - just "plug ang play". I would be very grateful for your help.

Hello guys I recently bought a second hand X250 with an Intel 240gb SSD installed and I am planning to install also an M.2 SSD to install Linux.I have already installed Linux in another partition in the Intel, but in general I am not a big fan of grub and also I don't like the restriction of maximum 4 primary partitions per disk. I would prefer to keep the Windows drive 100% clean of any Linux staff. So, I'm planning to install my Linux in the M.2 drive (I have already cleaned my system disk of the Linux staff, grub etc) and I was wondering if choosing the boot up device from the bios is going to be an option, without grub or other boot loaders. I just want to leave the Intel as default boot device and when I want to boot up in Linux, I will choose to boot from the M.2 SSD.Will such a setup work in my Thinkpad? As far as the M.2 drive itself, a 120 gb is more than enough and I am planning to go for an ADATA. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the Transcend M.2s and I don't trust "random" manufacturers, like ZTC or KingDian. Is there any better option for me? Thank you very much for your time. I 'm looking forward to your replies. Cheers

Hi, I just bought a X250 today. I received it with Windows 7 Pro, and the first thing I did was upgrade it to Windows 10. After an hour of use, I noticed that the battery was draining really fast. I clicked in the battery icon on the system tray and noticed that it says: Battery 1: This battery is not available for useBattery 2: 40% (or whatever) I opened Device Manager and I see two devices listed under the "batteries" section, both of them called "Battery with Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method" (translating from Spanish, which is my system language, so it might not be exactly like this). I guess this means that the system indeed detects that there are two batteries, so it looks like a software problem. I right clicked on both of them and selected "uninstall", and then went to action > look for hardware changes, so that should refresh the driver. After doing that, the "battery 1: this battery is not available" message still appears. I also noticed that there was a power manager application from Lenovo which is not compatible with Windows 10. After upgrading, Windows notified me that this app had been removed and I don't see a W10 equivalent on the support downloads section of the Lenovo website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Pau

A:X250 Battery 1 "is not available for use"

I also tried unplugging the second battery (the removable one). Immediately after unplugging it, the computer shuts down. If I turn it on without the second battery and plugged into the wall outlet, the icon in the lower right corner (system tray) says "no battery found"; however, on device manager I still can see one battery appearing. If I click on "properties" in device manager, it says that the device is working correctly, and there is no sign of any error log or crash report inside the battery properties in device manager.  I tried updating the BIOS and resetting BIOS to defaults, and it makes no difference. I also tried running Ubuntu from a USB stick ("try" option) and it only detects the second battery, not the integrated one.  I guess it must be a hardware problem.

I've just received a new X250, maxed out, and I'm really unhappy. Within a few minutes of booting it, I was seeing red and blue horizontal lines on the screen. I hoped these would be fixed by updates, but regardless of the driver, they are still there. To add insult to injury, the ports on the left hand side of the laptop do not line up with the casing. The USB port can be used, but the Display Port is seriously rubbing. The VGA connector is unusable. I'd hoped I'd have the laptop a week before I started a new job, and now it looks like I will be a week later. Does anyone know how I best approach Lenovo for a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act? I really don't want it to be repaired - this is a bad machine.

A:Really disappointed in new X250

Sorry to hear about the issues with your new X250. That must be very frustrating. According to Lenovo, returns should be easy providing you do it within 14 days.

I appreciate you may not receive the replacement before you start your new job. You might want to ask Lenovo if they have a similarly configured X250 in stock that they could send you instead of waiting for the replacement to come from China.

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

A:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

I've seen a number of computers where the addition of an Add-in Video card automatically disabled the onboard adapter. The only thing that worked to restore the onboard adapter was to remove that Add-in card. You may want to consider getting a different Add-in card that has 2 HDMI ports. Or if your motherboard has 2 PCIe X16 slots get a 2nd matching card.

I can stll move the mouse and see the hover overs but the cursor is gone.  I'm thinking this is a windows driver/firmware issue. In device manager I see all three:   But can't seem to get all three to work at once.  I've tried reinstalling both the Thunderbolt drivers and the display drivers with no luck. Any ideas? I'd like to avoid completely reinstalling Windows as I know that'll probably be a suggestion.

Hi there

I actually LIKE the SKY Q package -- also now 4K UHD available - and it's cheaper than the SKY HD + if you are selective in what you choose (apart from the up front cost).

BUT

1) only 1 HDMI output at back of box so get HDMI splitter -- works fine and bypasses any HDMI restriction on copying etc.

2) if you want to RECORD to DVD recorder -- then there's no SCART or A/V outputs - so just get HDMI-->SCART converter --works fine. !!!

Note most DVD recorders still record at 576p - no probs really for older stuff and you can connect the output from the HDMI splitter into the converter for your DVD recorder.

I still use DVD recording sometimes to make physical DVD recordings of stuff I can't get elsewhere -- and then on the computer use MAKEMKV to convert the DVD recording to an MKV file for playing via streaming services such as PLEX.

SKY says this can't be done - but the Chinese 2 way HDMI splitter (use cheap powered version --the expensive ones retain HDMI protection !!!) works fine -- Max output though is 1080p.

HDMI to SCART Composite Video Converter Stereo Audio: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Make sure though you use POWERED HDMI splitter --then no degradtion of signal.

Thinkpad x250, less than two years old. Running Windows 10. Yesterday afternoon after having my laptop plugged in for about a half an hour, I realised that it hadn't increased in charge at all from 9%. I took the battery out, waited a moment, put it back in. No dice. I repeated this step a couple times. I left it to charge overnight, hoping that might resolve something but no luck. When I woke up this morning, it was now at 8%, with Battery 1 at 10% and charging while Battery 2 remained at 5% without charging. My boyfriend has the same charger, so I switched to his to experiment. Hello all, I am looking to get an x250 but I have a question about the screen. Speaking to my boss who has an x240 he experienced quite a lot of ghosting issues with the IPS screen. I was wondering if these issues have been corrected for the model or should I just go with the TN screen and not risk it? I tried contacting Lenovo sales and customer support and got very unhelpful  answers such as "it is a new model therefore it makes sense it will have new parts" and "we can not give part details to customers". They even told me there had not been any reported issues with the x240 screens, when I have found multiple forum posts about people getting their screens repaired it and have seen the ghosting for myself.  Does anyone here have an x250 with an IPS screen and if so have they seen any ghosting issues?

I have the FHD IPS display on my X250. I am not really sure what "ghosting" is since I have never experienced it. However, I can say that the screen is very sharp and I'm very happy with the way it displays text, photos, and HD videos.

I have both model's (X250/X260) I would like to know if the LCD panels are interchangable? As in can I take a working X250's panel and install it on a X260 and have it work?

Thank you all in advance.

Hi I bought a 2nd hand x250 online and when i reaached home i noticed battery 1 was no available for use. I contacted the seller and he said that it did not come with one. So it just has an extended external battery that came with it. I am confused because i have another model when has one internal and i bought an external (extended) battery so i have two. I had no idea that some models do NOT have an internal battery. Can i buy one and fit an internal battery myself or are some models not compatible with an internal battery?

I have recently been experiencing that when I pick up my x250 with one hand, lid open, that the display goes haywire and the laptop freezes. Has anyone experienced this. It started only when I picked it up on the left side, but seems more sensitive lately in general. Loose contact? Short?

(Obviously after update to BIOS 1.23) my Thinkpad X250 (Windows 10 Pro 1607) always boots into BIOS. I am able to start the X250 via F12 but this can't be the longterm solution. I already tried with no success: Windows 10 start repairBootrec /fixmbrBIOS:Optimized defaultsSecure Boot disabledUEFI and LegacyLegacy firstOnly LegacyDisable "Execution Prevention" (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X240-cannot-boot-windows-7-64-bit-after-upgra...)Do you have any idea(s)? Thanks - Michael

Sounds like your boot order is messed up.  Boot into the BIOS.  Go to startup/boot.  What does it say for the order?  Hit F9 to load defaults.  Try again

Lenovo, is it possible to put the X250 Trackpad in the X240, replacing the Clickpad with one that has real buttons? The Clickpad absolutely sucks and I can't believe I now own the one generation of ThinkPads that have this abomination. I'd like to replace it without having to buy a whole new laptop.

A:X250 Trackpad in an X240?

Hello XThinkpadUser, I am very sorry, but I advice You to forget this idea. There are most likely going to be some imcopatibilities in BIOS, and if not so, then some differences with the shape of the keyboard / trackpad connector. Plus you would need to replace the whole keyboard bezel. My opinion is based on the same glitch with old X200 and X201 - many people asked if X200 can be backwards upgraded with touchpad - it can be definitely not (afaik). Nobody can mark your question as impossible until first X250's arrive, but in your case I would hurry selling your X240 unit. Sooner you do it, you will get more paid for it... (believe me, you have my best sympathy, but I am in much more huge trap - what shall I my X220 change for?? :-) ) Regards, skrble

I've had a x250 for a year and recently has developed an issue where the screen will display black/purple/green blocks(Look at pictures for reference) and I'll be forced to force shutdown my laptop and power it up again to resolve the issue. Could someone please enlighten me on the cause!

A:x250 display problem

Welcome to the forum!

Looks like a defective panel to me.  Was any driver update done lately? What happens if you press with your fingers on the borders of the display? (Try putting some pressure in different places).
