Q: Firefox and IE Crashing Constantly [Moved]

I have a Dell Optiplex running Windows XP Pro SP3, running Symantec Endpoint Protection, and I have the most up-to-date windows updates, and IE and Firefox browsers.

The browsers are my problem. They both will work for a little bit and then crash. Not just one crash but 4-10 times in the span of a few minutes, on all types of sites (facebook, google searches, yahoo mail, ebay, etc). I?m pretty much on my last nerve and very frustrated with this problem. It has been going on for about a week now.

Here is a list of what I have done to try and fix the problem:

? Updated Java (it is enabled in both)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Symantec is known to not be the best in catching malware that might come into your system. I would try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and see if that finds anything. Download it from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org. Please then post its log back here! Thanks

Hi,

I've been using Firefox for years now but in the last month or so it's began crashing around 10 times per day.
The crashes usually happen when I click the "Bookmark" tab, Firefox will freeze and then the "Not responding" appears at the top of the window, it happens about 70% of the time i click Bookmarks.
This also happens EVERY time I try and clear my "Browsing and Download History" - so essentially i'm no longer able to wipe history anymore. I am however still able to clear the cache, cookies and search history etc.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling firefox. I tried running my CCleaner to clear the registry and that. I've run Malwarebytes and AVG in case there's something else causing this. Nothing works.

Any ideas? I'm not exactly proficient is computers by any means so please try keep it as simple as possible

Hello,
as the title says firefox is continuously crashing on me. I'm not sure exactly what is the culprit of this, but it first started happening when I had a lot of programs open (I'm an architecture student, so we have to run a lot of pretty intense programs, and unfortunately my computer doesn't like that.) But it actually has started happening when it is the ONLY thing open, so I'm going to post a copy of my HJT log, and just want to know if anyone sees anything fishy.

I removed some add-on's to alleviate the load on the browser but I still get the dreaded "(Not Responding)" ******** here and there. I gota say almost every session with firefox I experience that. Im running win7 32-bit. I know these browsers are a heavy load, especially with all the possible add-on's but I think mine's crashin way to much. Are there "known tweaks" I'm unaware of?? I am having firefox or any other browser crash a huge amount of times during any given session. This has not been conected to a particular website, script, or any other static variable I can find.

I have uploaded the DDS file as directed. I was not able to run Root Repeal as it will not run on windows 7 64bit.

I have been having some issues for the last couple of days with my computer.  I first experienced trouble with Firefox while watch a simple Twitch Stream.  For no reason (as the computer was completely idle save the stream) I received a message saying Shockwave Player (or some script on the page) stopped responding.  The popup gave me the option to wait for the script to respond, or to kill it.  I attempted to kill it, by opening up Task Manager.  This took maybe 3 minutes to open up, while in the process hung my entire system the whole time, and then led to Firefox itself to completely lock up.  As well, when attempting to open up Task Manager in the first place, if at first the window did not show up I would attempt to open it again.  The first time by using the Ctrl, Shift, Escape combination, and when that was unsuccessful (as it normally pops up instantly), I would thusly right click the taskbar to open it that way.  By doing this method it would take minutes for the popup from the taskbar itself to showup.  After finally getting Task Manager open, I would see two different Task Manager processes.  One at roughly 4k kilobytes of memory, while the other ~100.  As someone with a tiny bit of OCD I would close the smaller kilobyte one by right clicking it to kill the process from the popup menu.  Right clicking the process would give me no window, nor would hitting kill process from the tab on the Task... I am running windows XP, an older version (with service updates). All of my spyware removal and system scans have been up to date because of a problem that was dealt with on this forum not more than a few months ago.

After restarting my computer due to Firefox crashing, my desktop would not load. No taskbar. Start Menu key on my keyboard doesn't work. My icons finally loaded on the desktop, but only after active desktop crashed, and they are pixelated and bizarre looking. Task Manager shows about 11 svchost.exe tasks running. I have absolutely no idea where the infection came from. I've been running regular spyware checks and cleanups since my last problem.

I should also mention that when the compter is starting up, it lags at the welcome screen. Normally the computer goes right from the welcome screen to the desktop, object dock loaded and taskbar running. Now I get absolutely nothing. Just my wallpaper. No icons, no taskbar, and right click AND the start menu key on the keyboard are disabled. You can briefly see the taskbar appear at the bottom of the screen as soon as the desktop appears, but then it just closes.

This is an enormous mess. Nothing is easily accessible on the computer. I have to open the task manager and run a program dock just to access my files and my internet connections, and even then Firefox keeps crashing. I am so grateful for the help and dedication that you guys have offered in the past.

hey everyone! i've been having this issue for a while now and well Firefox simply uses A LOT of CPU usage

To a large extent, RAM (memory) is there to be used.
Firefox will use what it needs, especially on content- and graphics-heavy sites.
That is done to provide you with the optimal browsing experience.
Re: CPU usage: you don't provide any data as to how much is "a lot", as far as your CPU usage is concerned?

It's not recommended to use CCleaner or other utilities to "clean" Firefox -- such cleaners and tweakers can actually damage a program.
The power users and experts over at forums.mozillazine.org suggest that one should let Firefox clean up after itself.

Hi there,

I have had a few problems with my custom built computer. I believed at first that I had malware and virus issues, however a nice technician on the virus forums said there was no problem.

I am receiving the dreaded Blue Screen of Death fairly frequently, I am not playing any games, just browsing the internet when it happens.

Secondly, my browsers (both Mozilla 3.6.8 and IE 8) are both crashing very frequently - Mozilla comes up with a report message saying it has crashed and asks me whether to send or not to send the report, whereas IE reloads the tabs frequently, but to a point the page cannot be reloaded and has to be closed down.

As well as this, a lot of my executable files are crashing - I am getting error messages from things like java, flash, avg, my network card, windows messenger etc saying that they have crashed.

This problem is happening very frequently, I cannot seem to go half an hour without browsing with no problem.

If anyone could help it would be VERY MUCH appreciated!

You need to post some hardware details about your custom built computer.
Something is unstable and it could well be the memory modules.

In addition, when you see a BSoD click details, it will generally state which executable caused the problem.

I would be tempted to look for a copy of memtest and run some memory diagnostics.

Firefox has been freezing up on me, and when I close it down, I get a bluescreen error. It also happens a lot of the time when I close Firefox down normally. This was happening before I updated to the latest version of FF. I am running Windows XP, and have recently started using ZoneAlarm and Avast on my system.

It happens more than I'd like it to. It usually happens when ...
 
1) I half-and-half things, meaning, I press windows key+left or right arrow and place 1 thing on half of the screen and 1 thing on the other. For example, if I put my google chrome browser on the left and something i'm watching on VLC media player on the right, while I'm watching what I'm watching, if I go to something on google chrome and maybe open up 2-3 tabs of something random, my google chrome will keep flashing (not responding) at the top and my cursor will go between the normal cursor and the "page loading" cursor ever .001 seconds or something, almost like it's having a seizure. It's so annoying. Usually to get past this "seizure" my browser has, i click somewhere else not on the browser and it stops momentarily.
 
2) Also, sometimes when I half-and-half my browser and microsoft word 2010, if im typing on google chrome, my page might "sneeze" (and by sneeze, i mean, act weird for like... a milisecond) and all of a sudden I'm typing on microsoft word. It's really weird and I don't understand it. How in the world can i be typing on chrome and all of the sudden start typing on microsoft word?

My Windows Explorer crashes almost every time I try to use it. The same thing happens when I try to use My Computer. It doesn't give me an error message, it just shuts down after being open for about ten seconds.

I've searched all over the internet for a fix for this problem and nothing is working. I've defragged the hard drive. I've ran Adaware, Spybot, AVG, and done several online virus and malware scans and nothing seems to fix this problem.

This has been happening for months now and its driving me nuts! Any help would be most appreciated.

Go to system properties (right-click on my computer => properties), then => Advanced => Settings, under Startup and Recovery.
Uncheck "automatically reboot"

I don't know if my problem is Firefox or WordPress but I thought I'd try here first.
I use WordPress to publish articles and usually copy and paste from the finished article in the Articles forum to WordPress but since I reinstalled Win 7 this no longer works as paste is no longer an option when I right click in WordPress, or at least in the particular part that I need it to. I can, however, do it in Internet Explorer, but images aren't copied over, which they used to be. I've tried all the usual things like clearing the cache, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am using Win-7 too but I haven't used IE. So my suggestion is to, try another browser for the same purpose and then see the effects (I feel firefox is well suited for the purpose). If you are getting same problems then, you are missing with some features of Win-7 otherwise, it is the website issue.

Presently, I’m having an issue with Chrome not loading specific content on Aweber.com, and when that same content is sometimes loaded from Firefox, it crashes both itself and Chrome, and sometimes, other programs.
 
This error also will occur sometimes if I launch Steam (SteamPowered.com) while running Chrome. Chrome will crash, as well as the Steam client. (I can only assume this is because they’re sharing something, but I don’t know what.) I know that Steam uses a type of browser internal to it so you can browse the store, interact with other users, etc.
 
Here’s what occurs most often, and how I can generally duplicate it.
 
If I go into Chrome and try to compose a new email in Aweber, it just says “Loading” and does nothing. I think this uses Flash, judging from the source code on the page. Doing this same activity in Firefox will, more often than not, crash Firefox, Chrome, and sometimes “unrelated” applications such as Spotify and Notepad++, which occurred the other day. They literally start crashing one after another, in some sort of chain reaction. Apps running in the tray (Evernote, Google Drive, etc.) are unaffected.
 
Sometimes, in Firefox, the ability to compose a new email in Aweber comes up and works flawlessly. I notice I have the most success with this after rebooting, and going right into Firefox without letting the computer run for some time.

You’re experiencing Chrome crashes due to conflicts between browser installed modules. Run the browser without loading any add-ons, disable the sandbox feature, reset your DNS settings and so on. I’m sure this will fix up Chrome crashes.
 
Clear Cache Contents and Temp Files:
1. Click Wrench, select Tools | Clear browsing data.
2. A new page would open.
3. Choose “The beginning of time” from the drop down control.
4. Make sure that all checkboxes are checked-up.
5. Click “Clear browsing data” button.
 
 
Remove Corrupt User Profile Data Files:
1. Exit Google Chrome.
2. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
3. Open below directory:
C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
4. Remove all contents from the “Default” folder.

Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with AIM (version 6.8.12.4) and Firefox disconnecting from the internet sporadically. I noticed it first with AIM. I'll be messaging people and getting no response. A couple minutes later I see the buddy list window say that the connection failed and it automatically restarts. The problem is that it does this almost constantly now and I basically can't hold conversations through AIM.

I also noticed that Firefox (version 3.0.3) stalls out when loading pages pretty often. Like I'll be watching a video and it will stop downloading the video all together. Or if I click on a webpage it will begin loading it and then stop part-way.

I'm not sure what to make of this problem. I guess could be either hardware or software that's malfunctioning. So far I've tried updating my network card's driver and switching ports on my router. I have an HP Media Center desktop running Windows XP. It's plugged into a Motorola cable modem and a Linksys wireless router, but my computer is plugged into the router. None of the other computers on the network are experiencing any problems. I've had overheating problems with this computer before. Could it be a damaged network card or a damaged ethernet cable?

Hi all.  I'm new to the community, but this is my second Think Pad.  Brand new, T460P, 6820HQ, 16G Ram, 512G SSD, extra life battery, running the Windows 7x64 Pro downgrade from Windows 10Pro.  I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and I have a problem (and have had since day 1) where internet explorer keeps crashing.  Typically, I'll get a popup message that says that internet explorer has stopped responding and needs to close.  If I wait for a few seconds before acknowledging the error, I don't "normally" lose my place, but sometimes, if it happens while I'm typing text, It'll wipe out my typing.  I have run windows update, and lenovo update, to no avail.  Has anyone experienced this issue, and been able to successfully fix it?  Open to most suggestions.  don't need to hear answers such as "use chrome, firefox, etc' and 'why windows 7, use windows 10'  I have my reasons for all, and it I.E. shouldn't be crashing. Same version of I.E. is perfectly stable on my t500 running identical OS / updates. I've included a screen snip of the error.

I'm starting this thread in this forum because my PC crashes when using my hard drive with Windows 7 on it and also with the drive I have XP on. I'm guessing something is wrong with my video card, but I want to make sure before I buy a new one.

Hi...Windows Media Player keeps crashing everytime i play a DVD (movie)...usually 25 minutes or so into it. I restart the movie, fast forward to where i was and it will play for a while longer then crash again! This keeps happening. Why?? I'm on a Dell laptop with XP.

My machine has been crashing every single time I try to use my computer. On a good day, it will function for a half-hour. Other times, only a minute or two. The system acts very sluggish, and then the whole system freezes, and failes two respond, so I am forced to manually power down the machine.I have previously scanned with Malwarebytes anti-malware, as well as Avast, but nothing was found to be the source of the problem.This is driving me up the wall, and this is my last attempt to avoid reformatting the HD. Yes I am another one of the thousands that believe I have infected my PC somehow. I have to do a lot of searching all over the internet and have recently had to have my HD wiped and the OS reinstalled due to technical issues beyond out IT's control. They only believe in MS Forefront as a network security. I have also installed SpyBot and Malwarebytes, and as of today, have also installed HiJack This and Runscanner to see some additional items. I have been using Firefox and IE8, but recently had to remove Firefox due to viral infections from a JAVA update! Couldn't figure that out either, but no my IE will randomly close and then restore the tabs at whims and I am also getting a lot of the "cannot display webpage" messages for common pages that I go to. If anyone can offer me any suggestions asides from get a new IT department, I would greatly appreciate it.

hi,
recently my laptop HD with XP has been constantly crashing, and i dont mean just freezing i mean totally not booting, all i get is a flashing cursor. it wont let me boot into the XP installer(i can boot into linux live CDs though). i dont know what is happening but its happening more and more often now (last happened 22nd jan before today) and its really starting to annoy me

Anyone know what could be wrong?? Any help much appreciated!!!

Hi, i'm new to this forum and in need of help. Nearly every program that connects to the internet using the .net Framework, msn(all versions including 8BETA), Visual C# 2005 Express "devoexplore", Visual Basic 2005 Express "devexplore" and also any help file (using MSOHELP.exe), such as ones used in MS Office, they all slow down dramatically, normally crashing as soon as it's loaded. Another thing that made me think its when .net connects to the internet, is that it also happens when I insert the WebBrowser class in either C#, VB and even the PowerPoint VBA program, and it even crashes in the design mode of all those programs.

I have .net Framework 1.1 and hotfix (kb886903) and .net Framework 2.0.
I cannot uninstall ANY .net 1.1 or 2.0 as it says "The insallation source is unavailable."

Any Idea?

The Exception code C00000005 is a memory exception. Basically a memory problem. To verify this please download a third party application called memtestx86, burn it to a cd, and run it for at least 5 passes.

I don't know what's up with IE9 lately but mine is crashing randomly on all kinds of websites. even Western digital's site it just crashed 3 times for no good reason.
as far as updates go I'm all up to date. the last update I got was for security essentials and .net stuff.

1.Disable all IE9 addons
2.Reset IE9 settings
3.Scan for Maleware (Use Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download)
4.Install all updates

If the problem is still there, take a look at the IE solution center from Microsoft.

Hey there,

I have a Gateway GT5628 Desktop comp. running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have essentially abandoned this computer and really want to get it back on it's feet. The problem I have is that the comp will spontaneously crash and restart with no warning or consistency. It ranges from 5 minutes to an hour, but rarely can it go longer than that without "revving up", crashing, and restarting.

I've run numerous spyware, adware, and virus scans and protections and they haven't helped. I even took it to Geek Squad and they didn't know how to help either.

Is there a solution, is there anything I can do, AM I INFECTED?

hello been a while but now im having a big issue i was watching an episode the other night comkputer crashed auto restarted then it kept going to start up repair but couldnt repair. so i decided to do a full recovery ive tryed retoring from another point which was successful but i could not get past the start up repair. so far i did the full recovery but freezes when its doing the rest of the installation last night i managed to get onto the desktop by pressing alt f4 on the installation. downloaded malawarebytes avg 11 an also tryed using a registry cleaner called auslogics registry cleaner. it finds alot of stuff but there is one thing it cannot fix but when i use it the computer no longer crashes. but last night it stopped running an cant get it to work again i even tryed reinstalling it. the computer crashes onto a bluescreen with stop code 0x000000e4. i am in safe mode right now with networking so far so good i just now switched to safe mode cuz it crashed yet again. avg and malawarebytes finds nothing.

me and a few others on the novatech forum recently picked this one up.

The WLM program seems to crash a lot, the pinned icon shows it as running, but you cannot get the buddy list up, you open task manager and it shows as not responding, happening all the time for me now

Hi all.

I would appreciate some help with this issue. My Samsung RV511 laptop has recently just started crashing during browsing of the internet. Crashing to the extent that I cannot even load task manager and have to restart. I had my suspicions it was AVG as it took alot of my CPU power but to no avail, its still happening.

It appears as though my physical memory is a ridiculous 97% most of the time during crashing and I am not doing anything out of the ordinary. I have also scanned my computer for any malware/virus' but there is nothing.

Can anyone please help?

It`s about six months since ny last clean install and after removing OC everything worked..up until Fallout:NV. Now the bugger is chrashing like hell.

Running ultimate x64 with integrated HD3300 (on msi 790gx-g65 mobo) and 4 gigs of RAM.

Any and all help is appreciated

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads
You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

Help,
My PC keeps crashing and becoming unresponsive when i first turn it on. I have run the computer in safe mode and run a variety of tests looking for spyware and viruses (none have been found!). Problems have started with my PC about a month ago where i couldnt complete disk defragmenter and still cant! Please Help!

My laptop is running Firefox 40.0.3 under Windows 8.1 (64-bit).
 
The Problem
 
Two nights ago my browser (then Firefox 40.0.2) started opening some webpages extremely slowly, simply refusing to open others and producing a "This document has been moved here" message for others (see below screenshot - the link would appear to go to whatever I searched for, but I never clicked it). 
 
These various problems were affecting familiar websites that I have bookmarked and regularly open, such as Facebook.  This seemed to be in some way related to the cache, as it was not affecting new URLs that I had not visited previously during that browsing session.

In addition, when using Google Toolbar (but not https://www.google.co.uk/ , which appeared fully functional) to search for anything I would receive the same: "This document has been moved here", but with an additional "302 Moved" message.

My Windows 7 is constantly crashing during video games and streaming shows. There isn't a BSOD it just shuts down then reboots. Even then it doesn't always reboot all the way. I have tried restoring and antivirus scans though I can't seem to pinpoint the source. Any help or advice would be helpful.

Is it happening during one game only or more than one? Cause it sounds to me like there is some sorta hardware issue going on causing it to reboot like that and or a software issue(s) as well. I would open the command prompt and do a sfc /scannow to scan for any system integrity errors. Click start, programs, accessories, then right click on command prompt and select run as administrator. Then type sfc /scannow. Let it scan and see if it finds any issues. If that does not fix the issue post back.

Hi, I'm having some major issues with my Windows 7 explorer as it keeps crashing on me, I'll explain in a little more detail.

I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit and have been for quite a while, I did encounter this problem before and I got that sick of it I ended up re-formatting and doing a clean install, this was fine until yesterday when my explorer started giving me grief again and keeps crashing when I either try to open a folder on my desktop or right clicking to copy or paste anything. I've got the error is gives me in the event viewer here if that will help.

This isn't a constant issue as in it doesn't happen literally everytime I open a folder or right click but it is becoming more frequent. If anyone needs anymore information to help me solve this very annoying issue let me know and I shall get the required information.

Edit - I've just tried the SFC ScanNow command and it brough back no reported issues so I thought I'd post that here aswell.

I've been checking the event viewer and found that 75% of the errors logged contain the file TosBtShell.dll as the Faulting Module Path so I've nailed tha tone down to my Toshiba Bluetooth Stack thus I've un-installed the drivers for it and used the one from windows itself, we shall see if it solves the problem.

The last few weeks my explorer has been crashing more and more, to the point it now does about a dozen times a day, showing this message:



Seeing as explorer is intergrated into vista i don't know what's going on or how to rectify it (as in i can't repair or reinstall it)

Hi Lostnumber, try running IE without any addons to see if the same happens:
- Click Start -> Run -> type:
iexplore -extoff
- Click OK

Test for a while to see if it crashes.

Does the crash usually happen on the same site? Is it completely random?
