The Action Center keeps sliding out from the right side each time I click anything. When I click again, it slides back again and disappears. If I restart, it solves it for a while but will do it again a day later or so. Very frustrating! I just purchased this. Any suggestions?Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I may have never noticed this in Windows 10 but after the 1607 anniversary update was released I noticed that Mail notifications that turned on the Action Center Icon and the Email subject and sender information in the action center, over time, would disappear without any intervention on my part. To be clear an email notification would arrive and the Action Center Icon would change to indicated that a notification was received and the details of that notification were listed in the action center but (A) I did not click on the action center icon (B) I did not open the built-in Mail application and (C) I did not open Outlook 2010. However, after being absent from my PC for a period of time, I noticed that the action center icon was no longer showing a notification and when I did finally open the action center there were no notifications there either. What I seem to remember was that prior to the 1607 anniversary update, if you clicked on the action center icon the icon would remove the notification highlighting but to actually remove the notifications themselves from the action center I had to either clear the individual notification or clear all notification or open Outlook 2010 and download my mail.

So, is this the behavior that others are seeing? If so, is there a way to control this so notifications simply don't disappear on their own?

Hi everyone. How do I keep Real Player's Message Center from popping up all the time? I find this "Message Center" thing to be extremely annoying.

A:How do I keep Real Player's Message Center from popping up all the time?

You will have to lookup in the Options or Preferences of the real player. There it has the option to turn the message centre off. I dont have real player installed right now, or i would have told you step by step. I hope you will be able to find it.
I agree its quite annoying.

Action Center on my Win 10 64-bit PC sometimes works correctly and posts messages when an event occurs, e.g. an email being delivered or a USB stick being removed from a port. At other times though, the messages may not be displayed until 10 - 60 minutes after the event.

Also, should displayed messages be retained in Action Center at all? Is there a log?

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

I just got a new HP desktop computer with Vista Home Premium SP1 loaded. I am trying to install an older Photosmart C6150 All-in-One printer. I downloaded the latest software from the HP webside. After install, the printer works great. When I run HP Solution Center to initiate a scanning operation, I get the following error message:

"C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqkygrp.exe The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. See event log...".

I have tried everything I can think of. I have used the L4 uninstall, disabled antivirus, cleaned the registry, etc. Nothing works. I spent hours on the HP web contact site but got no useful help. From searching other forums (including HP's) I know other people have experienced this or similar problems. Does anyone have a solution?

Re: 'The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrectThis problem has annoyed me for months now, so I decided to have another go and I have just worked out how to successfully fix this issue!!!!!!!The file that has the problem is a manifest file that is required for any program written in Microsoft Visual C.In my case the file existed but was completely empty. The file is "C:\WINDOWS\WINXSX\MANIFESTS\x86_policy.8.0.microsoft.vc80.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_none_8a14c0566bec5b24.manifest"As this is a system file, you cannot delete it from Vista (even with admin privileges) so first you have to take ownership of the file. To do, this follow the instructions on this link:"http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-delete-a-s...sta/"Once you own the file delete it and then reinstall the program that is failing (MS Flight Sim X Trail in my case).Everything now works absolutely fine.hardwareanalysis.com

Last week I found my way here from answers.microsoft.com...cant-turn-on-action-center after unsatisfactory dealings with Dell and McAfee. At least I didn't have to pay McAfee NOT to solve my problem. Many hours and days later, first a thank you to all on this site who posted on the topic in mid-December and whose counsel was invaluable to me watching from the sidelines. That's now a closed forum and I need a little more help.

So far I've followed all of the good advice, ten steps worth, and removed Win32/Sirefef!cfg and Win 32/Sirefef.P along with a Rogue rootkit virus and minor mal/adware. My computer is running faster and better than it has in a long time. The only lingering problem is that I cannot recover Action Center which has been replaced by an also inop WSCS, neither of which can be turned back on again by any of many methods I've tried including turning System Restore off then on again and other fixes, none of which have solved this problem.

I have a line of code copied to my desktop to install in the Registry but I'm uncomfortable doing it (as it's well beyond my experience). My old Dell, running Vista, went down for the count. I wasted about 8 hours to discover that it will never again reboot, and can't have the system reinstalled. I know it's hardware that's causing the problem now, I'm not a new user.

I had most of my data backed up on an external HD, but, I wasn't up to date on my iTunes library and I need to grab that off the sickly disk somehow. If I could get into it without booting it (like an external with no system), I could probably take that and anything else that I've forgotten.

I never had to side-by-side computers before. I'm temporarily using my laptop (Also Dell, also Vista). I have a laptop USB hub, so needing extra USB ports wouldn't be a problem. I have my keyboard hooked up to the laptop, I have the old monitor running as a mirror display on the laptop.

So, my question, which I hope you experts can answer, is: what do I need to accomplish the task I have described?? Or, is it impossible? I would hate to lose all the music in that iTunes library, much of it was burned in from CDs, or came from sources other than the iTunes store. Thanks so much in advance for anything you can tell me!

Hi,

I've had some ads popping on either sides of my web browser (chrome),
at first my reflex was to add the ads domains to my hosts file and point them to 127.0.0.1
but my hosts file is hidden and read only and I can't unhide it or clear the read only...
I've booted with unbuntu and opened the host file and I found that at the bottom of the file
these entries have been added :

178.250.45.15 www.statcounter.com.

Now, every time I edit the file it gets back to the same hidden and read only with those same entries,

I've run my virus scan (avg), I tried trend micro home call, adaware, spybot but nothing is detected.

Anyone can help me?

Hello rebelxti and welcome to Seven Forums.

Suggest you run the official McAfee consumer products removal tool. Link is in step 2a in this McAfee guide.)

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

After running the removal tool I would next check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I would also check for malware by running these free on-demand scanners.

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

Please post back if any of this helped or not.

Hello, let's see if I can help you out.

It has been a while since I last used Windows 8.1, but hopefully I can get you to where you want to go to stop that message from displaying.

On the Windows 8 desktop, can you see a little white flag located next to the clock on your system tray?

Click that and choose Open Action Center.

Once you are in the action center window, look for maintenance It should be under Security, now click the arrow on the right and maintenance should expand.

Look for Turn Off Messages About Windows Backup and click it. (Note: This can always be turned back on from the same location.)

Once you have done this, the message should stop appearing.

Please let me know if this fixed the problem.

Check the a/v settings, and see if its bugging you about something. If this is not the case, its just a bug, and you can disable the notification in the action center.

I attempted and failed a backup onto DVD. It failed, no big deal. Now the Action Center won't let me get rid of the red x on the tray.

Basically, Windows 7 insists I put in a DVD and try again. Otherwise, I can't find where to get rid of that alert (untill I want to try backup again sometime).

The Action Center just shows the failed attempt with no button to press to just get it to freaking go away!

The only option it appears is to insert a DVD and try again. WTF????

This morning I fell victim to the fake Action Center virus.
Googling showed me it's been resurfacing lately, and showed various ways to try and combat that.

The virus makes my mouse drag, and prevents me from accessing any website on my own computer.
I've transfered via flashdrive a free Kaspersky product that's said to be good at this specific virus, but it's been taking forever to install (I'm guessing because of the virus).

Oh, and I have Microsoft Security Essentials, which didn't detect any threat beforehand.

Is this Kaspersky freebie the best option for right now, and I should just wait for the entire thing to install, or does anyone have any better advice for this situation?

As always, thanks.

A:Action Center Virus

The easiest thing to do here would be a system restore. If this happened lately try restoring to a previous date when you think the computer was working fine. Get into safe mode first to do this.

If it doesn't work in safe mode, then launch safe mode with command prompt. When you get the command prompt type this in: "c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" and press enter. That is the command line for system restore. And just to be sure restore to a date maybe 2-3 days ago.

Once the restore is successful, download and run Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download. Do a full scan. It should be able to detect anything that might have bypassed Microsoft Security Essentials.

You could always do those other steps suggested by other people like running (rkill, combofix, etc) but there are just too many steps to do. A system restore usually does the trick as I always do this for people at work who get fake anti-viruses and resolve them 90% of the time. Then I download and run Malwarebytes just to make sure there is nothing else on the system.

Hello..
New to Windows 10. In using the Action Center via system tray icon, there are 8 icons at the bottom.
All the Icons ( square boxes ) are a muddy light blue in color except for the Bluetooth one, which stays a permanent shade of darker blue. When I select it, it goes to the Bluetooth settings, but the button stays dark blue always. When I select quiet hours and location nothing happens except the buttons turn to the darker shade of blue and no setting come up. Computer is less than 1 week old. Just wondering if this is a bug or if this thing is messed up already ? Already noticed right out of the box that play startup sound and the screensaver reverting back to one minute and not coming on seems to be an issue also. On December 25th,or the 26th of 2016 I booted my HP to be told I had bad sectors on my hard drive which was BS,I don't advise people to go straight to the idea that these troubles are even remotely related to hard drive problems my advice is first open your tower and check the memory to be sure it is seated properly or does not have dust crammed into it I had this happen with my old XP media center HP but that was not the problem this time. After doing a good deal of looking into the problem I had it all leads back to this action center,my PC is no longer under warranty and after I ended up doing a complete system recovery which I wish I had not have done I noticed that action center had changed in appearance, this thing for several month now has done nothing but keep on running it goes into a maintenance scan and seems to hang there this in turn locks my browser up so I can't log into any web pages when you go to shut the PC down it keeps on trying to run the maintenance scan the power button continues to show its trying to do something and I have to manually turn the thing off. After this I get the oop's there's a problem with your computer and then it boots into my log on screen as if nothing had happened? This tells me there's some setting that is set wrong and its conflicting with something I have never had this thing scan for two or three hours that does not seem normal to me so I can't help but to think its haninh up on something? My computer is a 1... Hello, I have the same problem with the action center icon in the notification area - its dropdown behavior tag is set to off and is greyed out. It will not allow any change. I have attempted the registry change as listed from narenxp but it would not import from that file. I had also had a previous problem with network discovery which I had also used one of nerenxp's solutions - that one worked fine. narenxp - I would appreciate any help in this. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 on a Toshiba Satellite L675

I cannot open Action Center.  I've tried Right clicking on the icon and also Wiindows Logo + A as instructed and nothing happens.  When I right click on the icon I get the menu for: Action Center, Turn on Quiet Hours, Don''t show app icons and Don't show number of new notifications.  But when I click on any of them nothing happens.  The Icon on my bar shows 4 notifications but can't open.

There's anyway to open action center like the Charm Bar from Windows 8?

A:Action Center via Hot Corner

Hello powerhcm8, and welcome to Ten Forums.

There's no hot corner, but if your PC has a touchscreen, you could swipe inwards from the right border to open the action center.

Hello:
I got Windows 7 installed on my pc last summer.
Late last year and early this year a white flag with a red x came on the bottom of the screen saying SOLVE PC ISSUES when I open this it says INSERT REMOVABLE MEDIA.
I put in a blank DVD for backup.
After this it stays stuck at 32% and doesn't move.
I have tried this several times and I still have the same problem.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

My problem is that the system icons tab is not available in my control panel for some reason, and when I right click my task bar to go to properties to hide it manually it says I can't due to restrictions on my computer, so I don't know how get around either obstacle.
Any suggestions? Thank you for your time and your help!

I have a little annoyance with an Action Center PC issue message that I do not know how to get rid of. The message is listed as important, and shows up under the maintenance  heading as "Check your backup". The error was caused after I canceled
a backup I was creating when I figured out I didn't have quite enough room for it on my other drive. I was able to successfully create the backup after clearing room for it, but the message never went away.

I see there is a check box to turn off notifications for specific issues, such as backups, but checking the box only hides the issue in the Action Center and does not get rid of it. The Action Center icon still remains in the system tray area, and occasionally
displays its tooltip/balloon tip on the bottom right-hand side, which is the annoying part I guess. It also just kind of bugs me that my computer thinks there's an "important issue" wrong with it and I can't do anything about it.
Oh and clicking on the issue just brings me into setting another backup up again. I already used this to create my second attempt, and although successful, the issue remained. I don't suppose there's a way to clear out all the stored issues from where ever
they're stored? Thanks.

A:Action Center message won't go away

Hi,
What about turning off the message specific to Windows backup from Action Center settings.
1. Open Action center by navigating to Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Action Center.
2. Click on Change Action Control settings link on the left panel of the window.
3. Uncheck the Windows backup checkbox under Maintenance messages.
4. Click on OK
5. Close the window and restart the computer.
6. See if this removes the message.
7. To turn it back on, click on the same checkbox from step 3.
This should remove the obsolete backup message.
If it still persist, try this solution:
