Bios Application Error 501 on HP Elitebook 8760w with window...

Q: Bios Application Error 501 on HP Elitebook 8760w with window...

I cannot get past the Application Error 501 screen on my HP Elitebook 8760w. I have tried many of the suggestions and they do not work. The solutions using the key combinations and f10 key don't do anything. I originally activated the HP Quicklook and now I get the error. I think I need to download something to a USB drive and boot with that, but I cannot find anything for Windows 10. Can anyone suggest a solution?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, yesterday I was using the computer (no unusually demanding activity, only Firefox and just about to launch a game thru steam, when it suddenly turned off and now it don´t power up again. I have it connected to a docking station so at first I just tried to powerup without it (AC directly to computer), but the problem remains. I also tried to hard reset it (disconnect battery, hold power button for a minute and then connecting only AC without battery. Also tried to use another AC that I have but nothing works. One strange thing I noticed was that the little LED on the AC turns off as soon as I plug it in to the computer. and the sam thing happends when I plug it in thru the docking station. the station has power (ie the mouse has power) but as soon as i dock the computer it turns off. (happens with both AC-adapters)It's like something the computer causes a short-circut. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Hey there,1 week ago, I've bought my new pc ( HP Elitebook 8760w, LG670EA#UUG, with Windows 7 64-bit) because I need it for my studies. And after a couple of days my pc started with restarting by himself, but not immediatly after starting up my pc, just at variable moments. Well yesterday it happend 4-5 times in one day and I became sick of it so I went to the internet and found this solution (http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSe...), but when I follow the steps and start HP Support Assistant, it says there is no update avaible, so I think BIOS isn't the problem. (note: in HP Support Assistant, next to the HP Total Care-logo it says "An error has occurred") What can I do instead of updating BIOS? Or can someone help me?

Hi: You will have to use the latest Windows driver available from your notebook's support page and hope that works. For example, if there is a W8.1 Validity fingerprint sensor driver on the 8760w support page, use that one.

Hello people,I have a while HP EliteBook 8760w and wantsjust my keyboard is vervaning far, only I've seen several times on the Internet that there are available a keyboard with lights in it, I would recommend this to order and what is here the type number?  Yours sincerelyJeffrey

Hi, Unfortunately no backlit keyboard option as shown:    http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c02847569-1.pdf Therefore replaceing keyboard you also need to replace the motherboard. Very expensive for this upgrade (if available first). Small USB light could do the job well (I still have an HP Elitebook with a light on the top of the the screen). Regards.

I use a HP Elitebook 8760w (2820qm with Quadro 3000M). The machine is usually quite in idle, yet whenever it is connected to an external display (directly or via docking stations), the fan turns always on, quite noisy and distracting. BIOS updates would not solve the issue. And many people have the same experience. (below is a link to the post) Is anybody here having the same problem. Can anyone suggest some solutions? Hi MKB, I'm not sure if this will solve the problem 100%, but it may help to regulate that fan and other components in your system. Hp offers the Performance Advisor to help optimize the system. This program may help to regulate that fan. I work for HP

My system is Elitebook 8760w, i7-2820QM, 16 GB ram and Quadro 4000m GPU. OS is Windows 10 x64.  Yesterday I hibernated my system after very light use, no thermal stress on CPU or GPU. Today the system would not start at all. On pressing the power button the fan would whirl for about 5 seconds and then shut down. No display. After a few tries the display appeared but the system could be started only in the safe mode. After I disabled Quadro 4000m the system can be booted normally. If after boot I try to enable the GPU the system crashes instantly. Also, if I uninstall the Nvidia Gpu, delete the driver with display driver uninstaller, reboot and try to reinstall the driver, the system crashes. I have tried various drivers with the same result. As soon as the gpu is activated, the system crashes instantly. Since the crash is instantaneous, it seems like insufficient power issue. Either the GPU is drawing excessive power or the system is not able to provide sufficient power. I'm using 120w adapter with fully charged battery. I have also tried only the adapter and only the battery with same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My laptop recently got a fresh installation of W10x64 and with a little help everything went well.   https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Drivers-missing-for-HP-EliteBoo... "Well." Except the Validity Fingerprint reader (Validity Sensor VFS471, hardware ID USB\VID_138A&PID_003C&REV_0086). Since HP doesn't care about the support of their flaships after few years, there is no driver for this laptop designed for W10. Every driver I tried (picture below) was either ignored by Windows Hello (the reader wasn't recognized) or the Hello started, but the fingerprint texture in dialog box just flashed and didn't accept my finger. Current HP Client Security ignored each of them.                 How to sort it out? HP? Anyone? Thank you.

Is there any way to disable the Quadro 4000m gpu without booting into safe mode? The option to disable it appears in the device manager only when I boot into safe mode. Since I have to disable/re-enable the gpu often, I would much prefer it if I could do it without having to reboot. The system is Elitebook 8760w running Windows 10 x64. I have tried a number of drivers both from HP and Nvidia sites. I have also tried installing only the graphics driver. The result remains the same. No option to disable the GPU in normal mode. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Recently I was working on a client's laptop to resolve a problem with the sound and USB ports not working. The internal speakers do not work as well as the audio out port. The USB ports that do not work are only the ports on the right hand side of the laptop. In device manager there were no errors for the sound devices or the standard USB ports. The system volume is at 100%, no mute options are selected. I tried uninstalling the sound devices and then re-installing, running driver updates which there were but this still did not resolve the issue. I opened up the laptop to see if there was a loose connection which there was not. What I did discover though is that there is a detachable board that plugs into the motherboard. This add -on board has the audio out, microphone in and two USB ports built into it. The internal speakers also plug into this board. This leads me to suspect that this board could be faulty as all the ports that are not working are on this board. One of the USB ports on it was not working and now is working again.  Has anyone experienced this problem with this particular model laptop? I am looking at getting a replacement board but not sure if it will definitely fix this problem. I do know that the client had an operating system upgrade about 3 months ago from Windows 7 to 10.After the upgrade there was no immediate issues. Below is an image of the board that I am refering to.

No it is a hardware barrier. Is the slot you put the mSATA drive into shown on p. 50 of the manual here?: Service Manual That port is for a WWAN (cellular modem) card only. Your laptop is in the Intel Core 2d generation era and the use of mSATA disks even for acceleration cache did not really catch on until the 3rd generation. The circuitry to see and make use of the mSATA disk is just not present in that laptop. Sorry.  if this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

So I tried the regular options.  I double tapped the upper left of the touchpad. to no avail.  There is no Synaptics tab on the mouse window ( in control panel) so I tried to install from the HP site and it downloaded, but did not install.  There is no touchpad option at all - for me to modify.  I even tried to go into the mouse via ps2 option and disable and there is not a disable option available  Help

A:Solved: IE Application error when I close a window

For other's info, I've managed to fix the problem.
I clicked on the tools menu of internet explorer and selected 'internet options', then 'programs'. Then clicked 'manage add ons' and selected 'add ons currently loaded in internet explorer.' Then disabled each program one at a time and tested if the problem occurred (remember that you have to close IE first and then restart.)
Turned out the source was 'solid converter pdf' (a free program from a computer mag) which translates pdf files into rtf or doc for editing.
However, this program has sat quite happily for two months so don't know why it suddenly started causing a problem.
Anyway, everything is now rosy in freddyfeet's computer garden (until next time!)

Please let me know in your next reply if you agree with this.Though the infection is known let's do it properly. Post the Attach.txt too. Also please either follow the Preparation guide and post the RR log or post a GMER log.

Hi

I was trying to install ccleaner in my laptop and in the middle of the process a popup window appears saying "AXWIN Frame Window: ccsetup318.exe - Application Error". I've read in some forums that this could be a malware issue. Below are details about my laptop;

Dell Inspiron 2200
Windows XP

Also, I've also attempted to install flash player. When I double click the downloaded file, it doesn't do anything. Does not confirm if the installation was successful or not. Also, I've noticed that the installer I've recently downloaded from Adobe was automatically deleted.

Thanks!

Hi, well there is an error (0*c0000005) which pops up every time i try to install a new app and also pop up on regular basis for a antivirus program i use. so i go through sfc scan to deal with this. sfc scan shows the
following result :  "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."
so i go to the SFC details to check the corrupted files and i found multiple files which says:
1) cannot repair member file
2) could not reproject corrupted files
On the end of both these lines following text was written: "Hash mismatch"
what should i do now?
Somebody help please!

Hello all. I read a few posts about this error and have tried av scans, malware scans, etc. Cant check disk for errors...it will not finish.
I am trying to fix this for a friend.

Apparently for about a week now, after starting up, this window opens "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application error"
"The intsruction at '0x010ef7ao' referenced memory at '0x010ef7ao'. The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

If i click OK, the internet stops working, if i click CANCEL the computer shuts off.

I tried searching the internet for '0x010ef7ao' but nothing comes up.

Any suggestions, other than a reformat?

I've searched the web for authoritative treatment of this subject and found nothing other than the sledge hammer approach of doing a clean install. I have a Lenovo 0468-05U which translates into a 3000' N100. It was having a strange problem of the desktop freezing (meaning accepting no input) whenever automatic updates were enabled. This problem was solved by clearing the updates cache and running "sfc /scannow". But immediately afterwards I noticed that chkdsk would not run at startup when requested, and that when requested the system got a BSOD c0000145 Application Error on every other boot.

I've run memory diagnostics; all OK.
I,ve scanned for viruses - Avast Free, Adware Free, Malware Bytes Free - Nothing but cookies.
I've run chkdsk /r from the recovery console. - does not fix the problem.

Seems clear I have a relatively simple problem of misconfigufred startup, chkdsk, or disk boot files, and I wish to affect a non-format repair. Can anyone assist with this?

Hello, starting about a week or so ago, a few minutes after I start up my computer (a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3) a window pops up with the title: "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error." In the box is written:

"The instruction at "0x02b5f7a0" referenced memory at "0x02b5f7a0". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

As time goes by, more and more of these windows appear. They remain on top of all other windows and, usually, if either the OK or the Cancel button is pushed a warning window appears telling me my computer will restart in a minute, which it does. Also, by unknown causes, my hard drive is filling up. There wasn't much room to begin with, but up to several Gigs will fill up seemingly without cause. Other than this, the computer seems to work fine--I can move the error window to the side and continue to use it. I don't know if these problems are caused by malware or not. Help would be greatly appreciated. Rygy

First may I say thank you, to all of you for what you do. I think this is honorable and speaks volumes of your personal character for you to take your personal time to help individuals like myself. I received a pop-up stating that I had all types of infections on my laptop. I immediately used my MALWAREbytes Antimaleware (free version) program to run a scan. Nothing detected. Then I ram my AVG (free version) Anti-Virus program and it also detected nothing. Then I ran the Spybot Search & Destroy (free version) and it also detected nothing. After seeing the pop-up of the ISO2010 repeatedly, I went to google to search for a removal method and noticed that I was being redirected. I would get the opportunity to see the appropriate links, but once I clicked on those links, I was taken to a similar site sometimes, and other times I was taken to a completely different site. However, I noticed that if I clicked on the link within google's search engine, usually about the 3rd or 4th time on the same link, I would be then connected to the appropriate site. One site did share with me how to remove the ISO2010 program by going into the files section and just deleting that file and 3-4 other files named ISO2010. That all worked fine until a day or two later I received this svchost.exe - Application Error. This error will stay on the desktop until I click on the only two options it provides you, but no matter which one you click on, it starts an automatic shut down/restart of my lap... Read more

Ok mashenden lets pick up where we left off.If you are are using a CD Emulator (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) be aware that they use hidden drivers with rootkit-like techniques to hide from other applications. When dealing with a malware infection, CD Emulators can interfere with investigative tools producing misleading or inaccurate scan results, false detection of legitimate files, cause unexpected crashes, BSODs, and general 'dross' which often makes it hard to differentiate between malicious rootkits and the legitimate drivers used by CM Emulators. Since CD Emulators use a hidden driver which can be seen as a rootkit and can interfere with investigative tools or cause other problems, it is recommended that they be removed or disabled until disinfection is completed. Please download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.Double click DeFoggerexe to run the tool. The application window will appear.Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation driversClick Yes to continue.A 'Finished!' message will appear.Click OK...DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK. If not, reboot manually.Do not re-enable these drivers until instructed or your system has been cleaned.IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Note: If you download... I am having a problem with the following error:

AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error, etc.
Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services, Windows has closed this program. Data Execution Prevention etc.

Then the PC begins to shutdown. I have been able to stop the shutdown by using Run Shutdown -a.

System restores even back to the initial restore point (which was only about 4 months ago) have not been successful.

Using Norton, I disabled svchost and all is good (with the huge exception being I cannot get out to the Interent), but the PC is not autoshutting down or getting hung up with the hour glass and Alt/Ctrl/Del always works. Point being, it must be some rogue program that is using svchost to send info over the internet as well as rendering my PC undable to exit without a firm reboot.

Norton, Defender, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyWare have not removed this problem.

Any ideas? Can someone help me use ComboFix?
