Annoying icon change... change back?

Q: Annoying icon change... change back?

Hi all,

I installed BSPlayer, didn't like it, and decided to go back to using Divx player.
I have all the file associations sorted so all my video files run in Divx again, but the icons are still the same as they were for the BSPlayer.

I know its not a really big problem, but its annoying!!

Any help?

Preferred Solution: Annoying icon change... change back?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Annoying icon change... change back?

In explorer try...
Tools > Folder options >File types >select the file extension you want to change the icon for then click on the Advanced button, then click on the Change Icon button.
See if the icon you want to use is there.

Today I installed an ini file editor and it changed my icon from the usual configuration look to a wordpad icon with "ini" over it. The program wasn't too amazing and the icon annoyed me so I uninstalled it but, by doing so, it removed the default software for it. I reset it to open with wordpad in an ini file's properties but it now has the usual icon-within-an-icon look where it has a wordpad icon inside a no-icon.

Is there any way to change it back to the configuration file-looking icon?

A:Annoying Icon Change/Removal

Problem solved; changed the default from wordpad to notepad and it's back. Confusing, considering it looked like a notepad doc. to begin with.

You could do a system restore using a restore point dated before you made this change to undo it and hopefully restore the icons back to default.

I had a weird problem with my folder icons. The normal folders (ones without thumbnails) appear the normal yellow photo that is the default. However, the folders with thumbnails are a different icon of gray and white. For some reason, I cannot change the icon of the folders with thumbnails back to the default, yellow folders. Can anyone help with this? I have manually tried to change it back by "Right clicking, Properties, Customize" and choosing the yellow default folder, but it isn't working.

Hello everyone.

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite CS4. Everything turned out fine. But my icon for the Bridge CS4 .exe file is one of those annoying default icons and I want to change it back. There is a Bridge CS4 .ico file in my Bridge folder but I would like to know how to get that into my Bridge .exe file. A simple but somewhat annoying problem. Does anyone know a quick fix? This is the ONLY icon on my entire computer like this. I don't think it's a virus or malware. I scanned using a bunch of programs. It's a legit copy of CS4. It's definately too minor of a problem to go thru a tech support nightmare. I really don't like looking at it on my desktop or start menu.

How did you change the icon?

Do Option 2 of this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. You may need to do this up to 3 times with a reboot after each scan.

Then do Icon Cache - Rebuild

And maybe Notification Area Icons - Reset

Just got a new laptop with Win7 professional about two weeks ago.

All of a sudden, this morning, the network notification icon for the network switched from the wireless-five bars icon to the wired icon with a big red X through it (because I am not connected via wired). When I mouse over the icon it still shows my wireless network name and that I have Internet Access.

I don't know how or why the icon changed, but I would like to change it back to the one showing the wireless bars. I've searched around and can't find anything on how to do that.

Can anyone help with this, please? Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I'm pretty sure everyone in here knows that annoying tiny window that allows you to pick an icon of your choice - you know, the one that pretty much looks like this one since God created the universe:

Since Microsoft isn't capable to make that stupid window resizable - and yes, that includes Windows 8 and most probably any other Windows in our lifetime - is there any way to change the dimensions of that Window via the Registry? Or is there a software that replaces the "change icon" window completely?

A:The annoying "change icon" window

Looks like this is a dialog resource 1060 from shell32.dll. Maybe resizing it with a resource editor will work.
You may have to change both the main dll and the shell32.dll.mui file for your language (for example the one in en-US folder). Also on 64-bit systems there are twice as many dlls to change if you want to affect both 32- and 64-bit applications.

Hello again

unfortunately the issue i going to ask help with is the total same issue that i had last year

Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder

may also be relate to the issue that this user had

Shortcut icons re-sizing randomly

My OS had gone crazy and change icon's sizes back to details sizes in random folders, last time i had that issue i thought it was solved by this method

Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder

But unfortunately it only was temporary, i had to format anyway so the problem was solved after the format and never appeared again till 3 days ago.

it not seem to be a virus but it really annoy, the only thing i done 3 days ago that was extraordinary for me was to edit some video on windows live movie maker + cccp codecs, i rarely use WLMM but happened to use it 3 days ago, and after that the issue reappear, i can't use system restore since i done alot of stuff on my pc and don't want to lose them, and also i don't happened to made restore point before the day the issue occurred and the rest are deleted..so SR is not a option.

anyone know what i can do now?

thanks in advance

No guarantees these suggestions will work but you could give it a try. See if rebuilding the icon cache helps.

I have just setup my new laptop with Windows 10 Home and installed Dropbox. I noticed that the Dropbox folder icon is offset compared to other icons. The folder part of the icon is more towards the top than all other folder icons. See this image:
Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

I know it seems like a small issue, but once I saw this, I can't unsee it, and it annoys the heck out of me

So - I designed a new icon. It is basically the same, but with the position fixed and the Dropbox-logo is a flat design. If anyone is interested, you can grab it here:
Dropbox - dropbox-fixed.ico

It looks perfect when changed - BUT, once you restart the computer, the Dropbox folder icon reverts back to the default. I tried it several times.

So I was wondering if it is possible to change the icon elsewhere. Maybe in the regedit somewhere. I don't know enough about that stuff to mess with it.

Hope someone can help!

I have Windows XP. A message has appeared on my screen and I can easily eliminate it from the task manager. Here is the message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the hph_software disk and click ok." This apparently refers to an old piece of software from the HP printer I installed and uninstalled, and returned to Best Buy. Should I look for a line in the registry?

A:Annoying startup message- should I change the registry?

I would look in the AutoStart list first just in case the program didn't delete that reference.
If it isn't there and you are not that familiar with the registry you could have a look at a "Hijackthis" report and see if it shows up on that.
Or run the free RegScrubXp and see if it shows up on that.

I installed a wireless laser printer. To install...you must connect locally with a USB cable to enter the wireless network's password. This process installed a printer locally and the associated icon was the correct icon. I then set it up wirelessly and when it completed...the icon looked like a fax machine.

The icon I want to use exists somewhere.
1) How do I tell what icon is being used for a device
2) How do I specify the icon I want to use for a device.

A:Change icon for printer to a different icon

The simplest way is to right-click on the printer icon and choose Properties. Then look for a "Customize" tab at the top of that box. At the bottom of the Customize tab is a "Change Icon" button. That will open up a box with several preinstalled icons and hopefully what you are looking for will be in there. Make sure you scroll all the way to the right because there are SEVERAL icons in there.

I'm having issues changing an Icon, I've changed what appears to be the Icon in question in Imagered.dll and I would have changed it in Shell32.dll if it was there (or if I could find it if it is there, but I didn't see it.)

I can't seem to find where this icon is or how to change it. Anybody know where it could be if it isn't in Shell32 and/or Imageres.dll (well, it was in Imageres.dll, but I changed it. It's changed for everything else but this for some reason.)

I've recreated my Iconcache.db and I cleared my thumbnails in Disk Cleanup, so I'm pretty sure that isn't the issue here.

Anyways, if you know, thanks for the help!

Attached is the image showing my problem.

Oh, also, second question! Why is it in the menu when I right-click>save as.., my modified icons don't show up for everything, just some? Do they grab their icons from Shell32.dll or something? I haven't changed anything in Shell32, that's what makes me think they do. But I could be wrong.

A:icon change

Your system utilities may be wreaking havoc on your system. Automated registry "repair" programs do no good but plenty of bad. I'd uninstall Advanced System Care, and don't use the registry optimizer on CCleaner (though it's great to clean out temp files and such). Also only run one antivirus at a time. Two or more will cause conflicts.

Then, if you have System Restore enabled, I'd try to go back a few restore points and then reinstall your PIM software.

If you really want to do this right, since your registry could be like a card tower waiting to fall, back up your data and reinstall Windows and your software. Then you will have a happy, clean registry and hopefully none of these problems!

*I was brief on a lot of these points, please do not hesitate to ask for clarification for any of them.

As far as I know, Windows only allows changing icons of shortcuts and folders. What you are trying to do is to change the icon of rx3 document files which Windows does not allow (or yes, maybe through complex registry editing).

You will need third party icon tweaking utility to do so. This: Download IconTweaker on CrystalXP.net - Explorer tools is a clean such tool (which I have already used) which may help you achieve want you want. This tool does not break the system although I strongly advise you to create a system restore point before you install and use it since I have never tried it on Windows 7.
