My Laptop Fell on the Cement :(

Q: My Laptop Fell on the Cement :(

Greetings, My two month old laptop fell on the cement while it was in my protective bookbag and it shatterd the screen from the top left corner. It's pretty badly damaged, the touch screen doesn't work at all for the entire left side. The pc is bought in The States. Is there any way I could get this fixed soon and if so, what would the cost be? Thank you.

Preferred Solution: My Laptop Fell on the Cement :(

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,You can find an authorized service centre in your are and contact them for prices. It is a quite straightforward fix even if the screen can be quite expensive.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized Hope it helps,David

My laptop fell on floor. It did not real damage; however, now my keyboard behaves a little erratic, meaning it behave like some different letters and the return button sometimes.

I have built a computer before. My question is, is it safe to take it apart incase it has moved a little to move it back, or if a key button has moved?

Kind regard tech land.

A:Laptop fell on floor

Maybe the keys were a little loose and the underlying rubber pads are not aligned with the "outside" keys?
if you can have the laptop keyboard checked/aligned (for a minimal fee) would be wise.

in the meantime, if you agree with me, you can use a cheap usb keyboard as a temporary fix for your keyboard problem.

Recently my laptop went off (not fully) due to accidental fall.

It stopped booting from hdd and an error ""hdl.dll" missing in root" started appearing on screen.
I tried to boot it from a bootable cd but the cd drive have lost alignment so dont read properly and hangs in between.
Couple of tries and i could boot in dos once and found that system and system32 are missing from c drive.
i also tried to recopy missing dll but didn't work.
Scandisk also did not work and hanged on the way.
Had to replace dvd writer to boot from a cd properly.
A thirdparty disk repair program sorted several cross linked files and at last i could install microxp on c drive to boot.
But it was a clean new boot so lost my all installed programs.
Recovery console of xp also tried.
Tried winxp pro but no way to recover old "documents and settings" though whole \program files folder is intact if browsed through explorer, it is not visible in through "start" button. Neither recover old registry etc etc. Network settings, drivers for other hardwares are lost.

Is there a way to get back all my old settings?
Thanks for reading.
Waiting for a solution......

A:Laptop can't reboot fell over

That type of error is normally caused by either damaging the hard drive or forcing the connection by the drop. When you open the unit to check on a loose connection, be prepared to replace the hard drive.

windows error recovery

windows failed to start. a recent hard or software change might be the cause.
if windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. if power was interrupted during startup, choose star windows normally

launch startup repair(recomended)
start windows normally

i tried starting with windows normally and it said(after the screen was black for a long time)

windows cannot be started

and then it send me to:

system recovery options

i select US keyboard, and clicked on next. it said

system recovery options

non of the suggested options helped. i dont wanna do it with the recovery disc yet, since i dont wanna loose all my data.

A:laptop fell, cant get to reboot windows

This is all we have. You may have to reinstall or use recovery. If it was from a fall it sounds like hardware. In that event trying to boot will not work. You must bring it in for repair.

If you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create A Recovery DVD

The Vista recovery disk is used to boot Vista when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Vista Backup Image, etc.
System Recovery Options

If Vista will not start now, boot the Recovery CD to run Startup Repair which automates System Restore as well as numerous other tests including System File Checker which can repair system files which are not corrupted beyond repair.

If Vista still will not start, try booting into Safe Mode to run sfc /scannow to repair System files.

this is a notebook mechanical question. Didn't see a group for that. The slider on the latch that locks my notebook closed, popped out. It has two tabbed hooks on it, not broken, but I can't seem to snap it back in so it stays. Has anyone done this before...is there a trick to getting it inserted the right way so it will stay in? Or does this mean there is something broken inside the latch that this used to snap into?

Hei hei folks. Unfortunately my X1 carbon fell down from about 2 meters.Feel free to point out my stupidity for that (: When I tried to turn it on the LEDs went on, but the screen just showed some weird piece of art instead of BIOS output. Now additionally, I hear 2 short beeps before it turns off again.I googled, and apparently this can mean eitherthe POST returned an errora mainboard failure I tried to connect it to an external monitor, but there's no signal during the short time it's on. My plan would be to buy a new LCD panel, because it's obviously broken ? and hope that the beeps just come from the POST failing to check the LCD. Do you think it's too early to buy a new panel, should I try to investigate more?Is it worth fixing if the mainboard is broken? How could I find out? Thanks for your honest opinion.

I put my laptop on a small table. As I pulled the end of my carpet to fix it, the table accidentally flipped with the laptop.I didn't really paid attention when it fell but as far as I can tell the back cover of my laptop hits the floor along with the table. So I lift them up back to normal and continued browsing the internet.
The problem came the next day in the morning. As I was browsing reddit, the cursor starts moving on its own to the edge of the monitor. As for which side of the monitor, It's completely random but most commonly it's either upper right corner or bottom left corner.Continuing the story,I restarted my laptop and it still didn't solve the issue. Also tried google searching but no luck.
Here's a list of things that I have tried:
Reinstall drivers
Closing any third party programs
Restart the computer
Scan the computer using Malwarebytes
And here's my laptop's specs:
Dell Latitude e5410
4gb Ram
Intel core i5
Intel Hd graphics
Windows 7
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.(If you don't understand anything I said just ask me because I'm not a native speaker sorry.)

A:laptop fell and cursor starts moving on its own.

Just by the fact this problem happened after the drop would indicate it's a hardware problem and not a software problem. It could be the trackpad itself or the connection between the trackpad and motherboard. If you are comfortable disassembling the computer see the below Ebay page otherwise take it to a good shop. Make sure the wired connection is secure.

Can hp send me some screws? My product is out of warranty

A:The screws on my laptop fell out and the hinges are loose as...

We need your exact model number. Screw kits are available on eBay for maybe $6-10. However, screws don't just fall out. They get stripped because something else is going on, likely hinge issues. The hinges freeze up and cause stress on the screws so that they get stripped out of the holes which means if you try to put a new screw in the same hole it will fall out, too.

You can't use F8 to boot into Safe Mode. Windows 8 / 8.1 boots too fast to enter this command. You can set the computer to boot into Safe Mode once Windows is open, or you can enable the F8 key to boot into Safe Mode once Windows starts loading.
Dropping a laptop with it running can damage the hdd. I would suggest running running SeaTools for DOS. You will need to download this to another working computer and then burn the ISO file to a CD to create a bootable disc. This disc should be placed in the tray of your DVD/CD drive, turn the computer off, then restart the computer. Once the disc is recognized you will receive a message suggesting you to press any key to continue.
You may need to enter the BIOS to set the DVD/CD drive as the first device in the boot order, and the hdd the second drive.
Please download SeaTool for DOS to your desktop. This will make it easy to find the ISO file.
When the SeaTools for DOS website opens click on I Accept, then click on the Download button.
This download is a ISO image which you will need to burn to a CD or DVD in order to create a bootable disc which be used to run the diagnostic tests.
To burn this ISO file to a CD or DVD use the instructions below.
Notice: This applies only to Windows 7 and Windows 8, earlier versions do not have this.
1. Place a blank CD or DVD in the tray of your optical drive and close the tray.

Hello All!
I have a question. This is what I need to do:
I have four HDTV's that I need to connect to a pc that is in the room behind them, but the wall is cement. I have looked at a lot of the wireless to TV scenarios but the distance limitations on them are really short (30 feet at most, one I found was 100ft but is was discontinued.) The other issue I have is that there is oil everywhere and when a computer is put out by the TV's it goes bad within 2 months because the oil is getting into the mainboard and suffocating the CPU. So, the thought is to put the computer in the room behind the TV's and sending the signal wirelessly to the Televisions. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone done something similar before?
Thank You!!

First check to be sure you did not get one of those Ad Ware/SpyWare programs downloaded to your PC. You may want to download AdAware and see if your system has one of them.

Next check for temporary files and delete them. Start>Settings>CP>internetOptions>DeleteFiles. It's good to do this on a regular basis. In fact I suggest you select, under the Advanced tab, "Empty Tempoary Internet Files when browser is closed". That will clear them for you.

Next do this, Start>Find>Files, key in *.tmp,~*.* and press enter. Delete anything it finds. Leave the stuff in the recylce bin for a day or two but you should not need any of it.

Then look here for junk, Start>Programs>WindowsExplorer. Double click on the Windows folder and then the Temp folder. Anything in your Temp folder in c:\windows?

BTW, I assume you use InternetExplorer. What version number do you have? For example, 5.00.2919.6307. Start IE and click on Help>About to get your version number.

About 30 minutes ago, my computer had a pretty hard fall off a 3-4 foot drop, it was a pretty loud crash. Immediately I tried to turn it on again, and it did a "disk check". After that it just sort of got frozen. So i turned it off, turned it back on, and everything seemed to be running normal, for about 10 minutes. Then it just turned off. I turned it back on, and i had even less time that time around, as eventually it turned off again. And it was making some sort of Clicking sound while it was on...

I have a panel on the bottom of the back of my computer, and im 95% sure there is a unplugged cord there that wasn't there before, I am thinking something got displaced or fell off in the crash, but i am not sure.

I unplugged it, and opened up the panel, but i know nothing about computers...I am waiting for my brother to get home to take a look at it. But for now. Does anyone know anything i can do or any help they can offer on what is going on?

The computer turns on, then will just turn off a few minutes later, without any warning.

And it doesn't turn off until a little after that.

IF it is my Cooling system, which might be the case, how can i confirm this?

A:My computer fell, need help

If you know what the CPU heatsink and fan look like and where they are located, I would check to see if they didn't get knocked loose. The fan electrical connector could still be connected and the running fan might be hitting something. The unplugged cords could be just unused power supply connectors.

If you aren't very familiar with the insides of the PC, I don't know if it would be a good idea to muck around inside since you could do more harm than good. An accurate diagnosis of what is wrong with the PC is very difficult to give from this side of the internet without seeing the insides ourselves.

I bought this notebook last April and I've been using it for at least 4 hours every single day. I did found a black screw on my table early this morning then I turned my notebook upside down to see one screw missing. This does not affect the laptops's performance however it alarmed me. Yeah, it might have been unscrewed due to the laptop's vibration but this made me worry that my laptop might not last that long. I had not experienced this on my 5 year old laptop and I don't think it is normal. Just posted this to see if people encountered this problem too.

So just like 15 minutes ago, my PC fell down. When I say fell, I mean the system unit struck the floor at a height of like meter (guesstimating the height of the table). It fell down because I was relocating my desk, the system unit is placed on another table (If you're asking why, I'm on a flood prone area so I can't place my unit on the floor; the table was the only thing to put it on to.) while the other things are on the desk. So I moved the desk closer to the unit then rotated it at 90? clockwise and pulled the desk to the right. I was struggling to pull the desk because one of the wheels is jammed. So I was looking at that jammed wheel when I was pulling it and then I heard like a bang. Checking the other side, I saw the unit is on the floor. I knew that my PC was fine because I was playing a song and it was still playing after it fell. The first thing that came in my mind is "Is the HDD fine?" and my answer is yes; and according to the spec sheets, my drive can survive a 30G~65G fall when it's working and I checked it with HD Tune with no problems. Plus the position of the HDD is upright so it's parallel to the direction of the fall (Does this help? Just for future reference).

Now the question is there any part that may be damaged? For now, all is fine.

When my PC fell down, I was actually surprised that everything survived considering that most of the parts are like 3.5 years old (GPU is almost 2 while HDD is 10 months). It gave me a mini-heart attack whe... Read more

Personally I'd recommend opening the unit up and check that everything looks fine (no visible damage), all connections are properly seated and all cables and connections are firmly made.

So I got the ICE virus holding my PC hostage. I went to the BleepingComputer ICE removal guide and follow up on all the instructions but everytime I finished step 9. After pressing "1", instead of the PC starting up normally, all it did was opened up the "Startup Repair" screen. I went on and back tracked and redid it all over again but it still happened. Is this just simply a human error caused by me or is it something else in the process? Any help is much appreciated.

A:I fell victim to ICE

Please follow the instructions in This Prep Guide starting at Step 6.
Once the requested logs are created, then make a New Topic and post it to the =>> Malware Removal Experts Area <== Not back here.Copy and Paste any logs created, (do not attach them unless requested) and include a brief description of your problem and what you have done to try to resolve them.

Please note that the area can get a bit busy, so you may need to wait a day or more for a reply.NOTE - If you cannot produce any of the logs, then please create the new topic anyway. Do not run more tools unless the experts request them.

Hi Has anyone else had CDs falling into their computer when uploading music or other things. This happened to me last month HP took the computer any took out the two CDs and sent it and the CDs back but it has happened yet again. I have spent hours trying to get on the chat line then a long time chatting with them previously but they dont seem to undersatand simple things like the CD is still inside the computer. It this a design fault?

A:Re: CD fell into computer

@Graeme64,It is not a design flaw. The media is supposed to be "clicked/snapped" into the holding tabs, because of the vertical design. Now, it becomes operator intense. How else would a vertical disk stay in-place. You could try to shake it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFEFhFY3tLs

Unfortunately, my elderly parents fell for a scam today.

Evidently mom was reading some news story online and they got some pop up saying they had a lot of infections and the hard drive was going to be destroyed shortly and to call this specific 800 number.

So what do they do? They call the number. And then they type in some stuff per their instructions which gave these people access to their machine. My mother then had the idea to call me and ask me if this number was legitimate or not.

I told them to hang up the phone with these people and to pull the plug on the computer immediately. It took some convincing but they did it.

I?m totally not sure what to do now. These people never asked for any money, but they had full access to their machine. My mother couldn't tell me what they had her type in to give them access but she did say something about the rundll32.exe. That's the most information I could get out of either of them.

I think I have to assume the worst in that the bad guys have access to anything and everything that was on the computer, passwords, etc. Luckily they don?t do any online banking or anything of that sort. But isn't the entire machine now a security risk?

I think I also have to assume that they installed some sort of backdoor to re-give them access to the machine once they turn it back on again. I've told them not to turn on the machine for now.

I also wonder if the bad guys could somehow get access to their internet gatewa... Read more

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to look at this! I'd appreciate any kind of help someone can give me.
My operating system: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Yesterday I fell for the SteamGuard.exe program which I downloaded from a Phishing site. I usually never fall for these things but I wasn't really thinking and stupidly went along with it and ran the program. There isn't all that much info that I could find about it online besides lots of other people asking for help too. I don't know exactly what it's put on my computer, or where. And I don't know how to go about finding and removing it.
I fear a keylogger may be part of it so I changed the majority of my passwords via mobile instantly. Steam, stupidly, requires you to use the desktop program to change passwords which would be pointless should there indeed be a keylogger on my system so I did the next best thing I could think of and deauthorised all other devices as well as locking my account out from transactions.
I have the majority of things I care about already backed up on an external HDD and I have good internet to re-download stuff so I can do a complete wipe as a last resort, but I'd rather try my options first.
Thanks again for your time

Now that you have properly posted a malware log topic, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.
From this point on, the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.
It may take s... Read more
