Outlook - Send Outlook email via command line w/attached file

Q: Outlook - Send Outlook email via command line w/attached file

I would like to know if I could send an outlook email via command line while also attaching a file via command line. I am trying to have a Windows 2000 or 2003 server inititiate an email when it sees a certain text file arrive on the server. The email should run automatically with the file attached. I've found this attached link on how to do the command line: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192341/en-us But no mention of attaching a file. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Outlook - Send Outlook email via command line w/attached file

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First and foremost, before I am told to go download this program or that program or what have you, please note the use:

I am creating a test fax program. I have it set so my users (some who still think computers come with a built-in cupholder) are able to run this fax.bat program I made, where it asks for the number, and then runs this command:
START mailto:fax="%fax%"[email protected]?subject=Text%%20Fax^&body=Residential%%20Repair:%%20/%%20Business%%20Repair:%%
The %fax% is the variable, and this sendto will open an email that the user can send without typing or doing anything else. My issue is that to make it work best, I would like to have it attach a text file that I would have created.

My search on the net all points to programs that run a CMD prompt. This will not work, as I cannot install a server or files on all the the computers that someone might use.

We run 32bit WinXP Professional Version 2002 SP3 (please don't think less of me ) with Outlook 2007. I honestly think it is a lost cause and cannot be done. The best I could do was come up with a list of command-line switches at:

However nothing jumps out to send a file with all the info. The best I could do was "outlook.exe /a testfile.txt" which will load the file as an attachment, however the to address and subject are blank. At at this point, I can do one, or the other. Is there a out... Read more

Outlook 98 supports some command line parameters. For example, if I wanted to start Outlook 98 and have it open to the calendar, the syntax is:

"outlook.exe /c IPM.Appointment" (excluding the path to outlook.exe)

What other command line parameters does Outlook 98 support. For example, is there a way to target a specific mail "folder"? My goal is to be able to provide a shortcut that opens Outlook 98 to a specific Public Folder on an MS Exchange service. This would simplify navigating users up out of their personal mail folders in Outlook over to the public folders available through Exchange and so on. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Friends I have a situation similar to or exactly same as described in this long ugly chronicle, apparently a flaw in Outlook 2010 which MS doesn't or didn't ack
Complete Outlook 2010 Lock-Up when accessing archive pst files

What I specifically am asking help with is a command-line-based way of setting Outlook 2010 on the client notebook to a state from which I can run maintenance routines. The symptomatic problem is that since end of February Outlook 2010 cannot operate because it hangs upon attempting to load/refresh the default profile, which is the oft-repeated situation described in the technet thread above.

Is there a command line switch/option that would disable the loading of the default profile and simply startup the outlook app without setting off any updates/refreshes/fetches ??? I was thinking of the /restore switch but I do not think that would provide a static state - what it would do is attempt a rollback to a stable state but the odds are that it would fail. Maybe someone knows better than i.

/safe failed. It simply apparently set app to a safe mode but immediately went into load-profile mode, thus ... wash/rinse/repeat.

thanks for any help or links or guidance.

Hi guys,
I would like to be able to move an email to a sub folder of my mailbox and get Outlook to send an email to the sender of the email I moved into it. Hope that makes sense.

I found this archived thread http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/439567-outlook-reply-email-when-mail.html which has proved very helpful and I've managed to get it working for me.

I would like it to send more than just a one line email reply but I don't know how, maybe get it to use a text file for the body of the email?

Any help would be great

Just to make it clear: The random URL's that are being attached are when you send an e-mail to another person? Or are the random URL's attached to e-mails that you receive?

Just wanting to make sure...

And also, for a registry cleaner, I would recommend Registry Mechanic (See below for a link). It's really good, free to try and then whatever to buy. If you do end up doing the trial version, take note that it only scans the first six sections. I hope it's in those sections! ;-)

I have been running outlook 2003 for almost 3 years ok.

However, today I find I can not send email via outlook (receiving incoming email works fine).

The message I get reads;

"sending reported error; 0x800ccc0f. the connection to the server was interrupted...."

It has been like this now for 2-3 days and causing a real pain.

Is there anyone on this board with the expertise in outlook 2003 who would be kind enough to help me fix this problem?

I am running XP, outlook 2003 etc. I have tried to restore XP to earlier in the week but still the problems persist.

Any help much appreciated

I've been using Outlook this morning and everything ok until just now. Composed a forwarding email from an incoming email, clicked on send and...nothing. But get this message (helpful, not) "Cannot send this item". Also tried changing email accounts, same thing. But tried sending test emails from variety of accounts, all ok. Is there something about the email that is preveting outlook from sending this email. It was generated from Windows mail by my daughter and I've replied to her previous emails with no problem so its just this one. Anybody got any clues? Thanks in advance.
Update: I created a new email and attached the email from daughter and this was sent successfully.

I am using a btinternet.com (BT Yahoo) email address with outlook 2007. I have used it for ages with no problems, then suddenly a few days ago I could receive, but not send email. The messages would appear to have sent, would show in my sent items folder, but they didn't actually get sent.

I tried to change a few settings, which didn't work, and have now put it back as before, but now the messages don't even leave my outbox. When I click send/receive, it just stays on sending for ages, but I get no error messages.

Recently I can not open an attachment in excel that is attached in an email. If it does, it is a web page. If I save to the external hard drive and try to open it through Win Explorer I can?t.

I am wondering how to send an email to a list of people in an Access database. The email should have a message in the body, as well as a Word attachment.

I know how to do this using a mail merge in Word where I can send the email using the Word doc as the email body message or attach this Word doc to the email, and I can select the recipients from an Access db. I want to be able to do both - have a message in the body of the email and attach a Word doc. I don't see an option to do this when doing a mail merge in Word using an access db.

Is there a way I can do this?

A few days ago, both mine and my wife's Outlook Express started getting errors when we tried to send email. It gives both of us the following error(the account name is different, obviously):The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'spiritcloud', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0EThe only thing that changed the same on both computers was an automatic update by our AVG software. I don't think that is the cause, because my AVG updates each morning and my email worked fine until late one night. No email settings were changed. No security or network settings were manually changed. No hardware was changed. Nothing. Our outgoing mail just stopped working.I talked to our ISP tech support and he said that 99% of the time that error means a problem with either the email settings or with security settings(such as anti virus software). Since I knew the email settings hadn't changed, I looked at the AV. I even completely removed it, but the email error remained. I tried setting up the account from scratch on outlook express--no change. I tried setting up a new account--same error. I tested every OE authentication setting combination--nothing worked. Have you tried disconnecting from the internet entirely and connecting again to see if that solves the problem?

Have you tried flushing your DNS and IP numbers? I'm afraid I don't remember the directions for that, but I found it here on BC. That might solve the problem.

Hi guys,

He gets this error "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection..." I checked his cable modem with another laptop and the other laptop works sending and recieving his email account fine...

He can recieve it fine, but not send. I disabled all firewalls including the Windows one, I checked all the incomming/outgoing settings and all is good. I also turned off the incomming and outgoing mail scanning in Nortons and same thing. I also completely disabled nortons and doesn't send and I even uninstalled Nortons and still can not send. I installed another program (thunderbird) and I still get the same error. I scanned the internet and it seems that Nortons seems to cause this problem alot?

Well, since I uninstalled the program and it's still not working , is there a way to repair the SMTP in Windows?

Thanks for any help!

Hi kalisun

Can you post the exact error message? It usually has an error code number.

Does the ISP require authentication?
Check the account settings in Outlook Express:
Tools > Accounts > (Account Name) > Properties > Servers tab
Is the option: My Server requires authentication checked?
If so, click the Settings button, which option is selected there?

If Use same settings as my incoming mail server, is selected, select the option: Log on using:
and fill in the User Name and Password for the mail server.
Apply, OK to save and close and test it again.

Let us know if that makes a difference.

This started a week or so ago. Nothing had been changed but I started getting an error when trying to send emails from Outlook. The error I get is as follows:

Task 'pop.att.yahoo.com - Sending and receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or internet service provider (ISP).

I called AT&T and they went over my settings which I have checked and rechecked and that I could send email when logged in on the webmail, which I can, and then wanted to send me to a pay department for dealing with outlook.

When I've verified the settings, I've clicked the 'test account settings' button and it sometimes fails but other times the test completes correctly, but then if I try and send an actual email, I get the error message again.

Am getting the 0x800CCC0F error message. Disconnected from router and now am running directly to Comcast modem but problem remains.

Any ideas? Thanks.

we are having problem with outlook nowadays. we cant send emails among us in the office. we can send and receive emails from outside of the office but we cant comunicate in the office. and when we do test acount settings everything looks fine (it ticked all of them) but i dont receive test email. we have some other users ,with same domain name, they can send from the other office. it looks the problem is related with ISP but we didnt have this problem till last friday. we didnt change any settings and we turn off all firewalls. still got the same problem I installed Mozilla Thunderbird and it works fine with it. what is wrong with outlook
any idea?

A:Solved: cant send email with outlook

Have you checked with your ISP tech support? If they have started blocking ports to reduce spam, etc. then you should have been notified that you needed to make a change in your email account settings. Check with your ISP first.
