I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: how to remove bitlocker

Unlocking the Encrypted Drive

Simply type “BitLocker” in Start Menu Search

and Open the BitLocker Drive Encryption Program

Once it opens, just find the drive and click "Turn Off BitLocker”

It will ask for a confirmation: “Your drive will be decrypted. This may take considerable time. You can monitor the status of your drive decryption.”

Just proceed by clicking Decrypt Drive

The windows 10 Pro computer has died, and I would like to put the in my new computer with windows 10 home.   I would like to remove the bit locker password,  so I can reinstall windows 10 pro while keeping my files and apps,
I'm unable to do this while the drive is encrypted.  How do I remove drive encryption from the drive while I have the drive slaved to a windows 10 home computer?

If a drive is encrypted with BitLocker and you choose to not require any form of pre-boot authentication the system will simply boot and unlock when you login.

If you encrypt a computer with BitLocker and chose to set a PIN, is there any way to later retract the pre-boot PIN requirement and revert back to the scenario above without first decrypting and re-encrypting?
I've looked at the various options via manage-bde and tested a few such as:
manage-bde -protectors -delete C: -Type TPMAndPIN
Unfortunately this simply removed the simple PIN and instead requires the recovery key. Using the same command to delete the recovery key breaks the system.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

A:Remove BitLocker PIN Requirement

Apologies for replying to an old-ish question but I believe I have a solution.
Assuming any group policy changes relating to BitLocker PINs have been reset,  enter the command
manage-bde -protectors -add C: -tpm. This will reconfigure BitLocker into using just the TPM and delete the PIN as well.
If you run manage-bde -status and look under Key Protectors you should see Numerical Password (ie the recovery key) and either TPM on a system that does not use a PIN, or TPM And PIN on a system that does. If you try to remove the PIN by just removing the
TPM and PIN key protector the only means of unlocking the drive available is Numerical Password, causing you to be prompted for the recovery key at every boot. You have to specifically tell BitLocker to use just the TPM instead, it wont automatically default
to this setting.

Clicking on system and security -> manage bitlocker -> select the drive -> click on Turn off BitLocker

click on Turn off Bitlocker pop-up I get a new pop up that reads:

"The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

I have attempted:
repair-bde E: Z: -pw  - > then entered pass
repair-bde E: Z: -rp -> with the password from key file
repair-bde C: Z: -rk Z:keyfile.bek

and the -force option
all options have failed - i have scoured the net and im exausted from searching.... I do not want to download any 3rd party programs as i shouldnt have to.

I have the backup key and password, the biggest issue for me is that i've moved my major folder (docs, music, video, photos, downloads) to save room on my ssd. When 10 updates, it forces a reboot and things get all jacked up because it cant access
those folders and locks up the indexing and file history.

So i need remove this bitlocker.

A:Bitlocker remove password

To turn off BitLocker Drive Encryption
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption.
2. Find the drive on which you want BitLocker Drive Encryption turned off, and click Turn Off BitLocker.
3. A message is displayed, informing you that the drive will be decrypted and that decryption may take some time. Click Decrypt the drive to continue and turn off BitLocker on the drive.
By completing this procedure, you have decrypted the drive and removed BitLocker protection.

Is there is a normal way to remove it(without manual registry editing)
I don't have anything encrypted nor I'll ever encrypt anything and I know what I must delete from the registry but is there is some way like uninstall or something like that.

Currently the service is stopped,I don't have encrypted drive nor a single encrypted file but the context menu is still there and it's active(kinda...it's starting BitLockerWizardElev.exe)

A:Remove BitLocker (the normal way)?

Try control panel > Programs and features > Turn windows features on and off. Uncheck it if it is there.

On opening Asus T100T laptop, immediately after a Windows update, error message appears: Process1 Initialisation Failed. Then I am asked for a Bitlocker Recovery Key. Absolutely did not install Bitlocker. Managed to find recovery key via Microsoft account - no idea how it got there - we didn't save it.
This key worked, and operation was normal for a few days. Now am getting the same messages, and inserting the Bitlocker key has no effect - the messages just keep looping.

I have looked at the tutorials, and have used Command Prompt to turn on auto unlock

To no effect - the messages keep on the same cycle. Any ideas?

i was hoping somebody could help me with removing bitlocker from windows?

i dont want to decrypt a drive, or stop bitlocker monitoring my drives because this wont actualy solve my problem. i actually want bitlocker to be removed and no longer exist as part of my operating system. i want it to die and burn in a fire of digital petrol

i'm not sure if its even possible really, i dont know how difficult or how important bitlocker is to the operating system itself when its not encrypting drives.

any ideas? if it cant be removed then i would be happy to just break it. delete a certain file that it relies on so when it tries to start up it just gives a windows error which i can cancel perhaps?

thanks in advance for any help.

A:Actualy remove bitlocker entirely, not disable

Best I can offer is the Bitlocker service is set to manual by default which means that it will be started if required. You could set this to disabled which should prevent it ever running.

Please note that if you disable the service the encryption will remain on any areas that are encrypted, and could actually corrupt the encryption making it impossible to recover data. With this in mind I would strongly advise against doing this, or at a minimum make sure that there are no encrypted files in use prior to any changes

Is there a supported method to remove decommissioned computers from the MBAM database in order to keep compliance report data clean and up to date?
Thank you.

A:How to remove decommissioned computers from BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) database?

Unfortunately, there is no supported method to clean decomissioned computers.
To get updated enterprise reports use the dates or last 1 week or 2 weeks, in this way you will only see machines which have contacted the MBAM server.

Am super frustrated and would appreciate any help.   ThinkPad X1 6th Gen has been dead more than a week;  OS crashed, but several reboot and repair efforts failed.  Tried system restore.  That required a bitlocker key (which I found online) but then the machine would not accept my account password.  So unable to restore.    Multiple calls with Thinkpad warranty support (hardware and software) could provide no help or guidance.  (Except to send restoration media.)  Mind-boggling lack of support... and no way to escalate issue to someone who actually understood it.  Deeply disappointing experience w/ Lenovo. . So now the question is how -- after I reset my system -- do I avoid this nonsense in the future?   I shouldn't have to rebuild my laptop from scratch anytime there is an OS problem.  BTW, I did not order bitlocker, set up bitlocker or create any password for it.  Do not need it or want it.    Can anyone help with advice on how to set up my machine without it? Thanks.

After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

A:Bitlocker enabled drive, recovery key needed during boot, PCS did not match, event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?
Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.
I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

Hello and good afternoon, I have a issue where a manager started the Bitlocker process on the SD card in his Surface Pro 3

with Windows 8.1. The Bitlocker attempt failed at 3.4% completed but the SD card ended up being Bitlocked without providing the Bitlocker Recovery Key (I've never seen this happen before). He doesn't know the password for the SD card and of course
I've been tasked to somehow release the encryption so that he can get the required information off of the SD card.

Is there anything that can be done to release the encryption on the SD card or has the SD card been made non-accessible moving forward?

Is there any way to find the identifiers/recovery keys on my laptops so I can document this? Or do I have to decrypt the laptop drives, turn off Bitlocker, and start all over again to generate new identifiers/recovery keys? My only options under Manage Bitlocker are Suspend protection, Back up your recovery key, and Turn off BitLocker.

Initially I found that BitLocker on the Go supported removable media like flash drives and external drives. Why isn't a CD/DVD supported since it is considered removable media? Will this support be available in future releases?

A:Will BitLocker or BitLocker on the Go ever support CD/DVD encryption?

Bitlocker to Go is not supported on CD/DVD. Your suggestion is valuable, I will forward this information to the appropriate department through our internal channel.
Both the Microsoft Product Team and Development Team will take into consideration all suggestions and feedback for future releases.
Currently, you may need third party software to encrypt CD/DVD.

I am trying to enable BitLocker on a Windows 7 Ultimate x32 system with TPM. I follow the Wizard and when asked to encrypt the drive I select 'Run BitLocker system check' and 'Continue' (see attached sreenshot).
The USB is inserted and contains the recovery key (.txt and .tpm). During reboot I get:

Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption Information
The system boot information has changed since BitLocker was enabled.
You must supply a BitLocker recovery password to start this system.
Confirm that the boot changes to this system are authorized.
If the changes to the boot system are trusted, then disable and re-enable
BitLocker. This will reset BitLocker to use the new boot information.

Otherwise, restore the system boot information.

Windows then continues to start normally. After login I get an error message: BitLocker could not be enabled (see attached screenshot).
When I check TMP it shows as active, initialized and owned.

I've started out from scratch several times - same results. I can't figure out what the problem is.
This is driving me nuts.

Any help appreciated

Manufacturer name: BRCM
Manufacturer version: 2.10

I've since modified the group policy settings for Bitlocker to use a PIN.
I am still getting the same results.
I follow the wizard, select check the system, reboot, enter PIN, get the same "error" messages as shown in my previous post.

This makes no sense.

Hi all,

I've been having a bit of trouble trying to get Bitlocker working on my Dad's laptop. He recently bought a new laptop with Win 7 pro and I upgraded it to Win 10. It all went smoothly except now when I'm trying to get Bitlocker to encrypt his drive.

It has an ssd but is partitioned already. As far as I can tell it doesn't have the TPM chip as it was a cheapy laptop but I have managed to enable it through GP but when I try to run it I get the message in the screenshot below and I can't seem to find much info on it. Some suggest it's to do with partitions and I also ran the BdeHdcfg command to no avail.

Any help to get this encrypted for him would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

A:Bitlocker without TPM help

I've managed to fix it myself but might be worth posting this somewhere for anyone else that gets the same problem.

I basically had too many partitions on the one drive which it didn't like but wasn't very informative when telling me so so I had to guess and made a shot in the dark to delete a partition and after that it actually worked.

Thanks anyway,

Is there any software like Bitlocker that I can get for Win 7 Pro? Can you download bitlocker??? I can't find it anywhere.

I have a Macbook with bootcamp installed for Snow Leopard and Win 7 and looked at Truecrypt, but I don't feel like going that route due to Truecrypt needing to be the first file on the MBR instead of bootcamp, and that just seems to be too much of a hassle.

I just purchased a Dell XPS with Windows 7 Ultimate. When I tried to activate Bitlocker on drive c:, it says my computer doesn't have a TPM installed. I don't get that message on drive d:, which is, according to Dell, just the restore partition for the machine. Dell was absolutely zero help in finding the TPM and activating it, but swears I should have it. How do I find out for sure, and turn it on so I can use Bitlocker? I don't want to use it with thumb drives as I travel a lot and worry about losing all my recovery keys.

A:Bitlocker with TPM

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip, it stores the cryptographic keys needed to encrypt and decrypt your hard disk or partition . This isn't *required* to use bit locker. The TPM chip is a hardware storage of the encryption key, So only that computer can access the encrypted DATA. You can sill encrypt the disk using the software, it will save the key in windows and not lock it to specific hardware, so you could hook up the HDD to another computer enter the key and get the DATA off. What model Dell XPS did you purchase, perhaps I can help find out if it does actually have the TPM chip.

If I understand correctly, Bitlocker is only available in the Ultimate version of Windows 7, not in the Pro version, but after noticing that services in Windows 7 includes an item for Bitlocker, which is set at manual by default.

Wondering why this is there if Pro doesn't include it. I started Googling and came across some articles about Bitlocker To Go, which apparently is specifically for encrypting USB or more particularly flash drives. While I have no need or desire to encrypt my internal drives, being able to encrypt a flash drive seems like a good idea

While I admit that I only scanned the articles, it appeared that Bitlocker To Go is separate from Bitlocker proper and is apparently a beta. Thinking that it could be downloaded separately, I tried to find a download, without any success. MS does have a drive preparation tool available for download, along with some guides and articles, but if there is anything more, I didn't find it. Am I misconstruing this? Is Bitlocker To Go just a part of Bitlocker itself? If none of this is available for Pro, why is there a service for it?

It isn't a download per se, it just installs on the removable storage device when you plug it in and right click on it and choose Turn on Bitlocker in Ultimate or Enterprise, or from Bitlocker in the control panel. You're able to access and unlock the device and have read only access, or copy the contents to a lesser OS, but can't save back to the removable device on an OS or lesser edition without Bitlocker like Pro or Starter, or Vista, Xp. Don't know the answer as to why the service is there in pro, maybe has to do with accessing the bitlocker encrypted removable device.

Hi Everyone,

I have a Lenovo mix 2 10' tablet with a Windows 8.1 operation system. When I tried to switch it on it asked for the bitlocker key, after typing that I clicked on continue and it showed it's unlocked but afterwards
it got frozen, didn't react to anything. I could only switch it off with pressing the power button for a long time. When I switched it on again it started from the beginning, asking for the code again.

What could be the solution for starting the system?

I would really appreciate any help!
