Ideapad Y700 15ISK installing extra harddrive

Q: Ideapad Y700 15ISK installing extra harddrive

So I ordered the Ideapad Y700 15ISK with 256gb SSD and no HDD with the intension of installing an extra hard drive (probably HDD because it's cheaper). From what I've read on the forums people say that it's missing some cable(?) to plug in a 2.5" hard drive even though there is a slot for it. Would I be able to take out my 2.5" hard drive from my current Lenovo Flex laptop and plug it in to the Y700. As far as I know both should use 2.5" SATA 3 which means I should have no problem right?Alternatively I've been thinking of buying a new hard drive, but I still have no idea what's compatible with what so would something like This be compatibe? (Sorry about the site being in norwegian, but it should still be understandable as the specs are in english).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:32 GB Ram on Ideapad Y700-15ISK ?

Hi basitj  ,

Greetings .

I was also waiting for other members to try going beyond 16 GB on this model.
So far,  was not able to get a verified working upgrade on this model most likely since it was just released in the market and that it is using DDR4 already.

Seen models that worked from beyond recommended RAM from OEM since memory controller of processor usually exceed whole system max ram. This is due to systemboard limitation and firmware identification set by OEM.

If you can have your company IT group test it or have computer shop to try going beyong 16 GBDDR4 then it's the only time we can decide .

Update us if possible , it would be a good reference for our community.

Last night, after having left the computer idle for about an hour, I returned to find it partially 'frozen' - at first I could navigate between apps, but not activate anything, and after about a minute, the keyboard seemed to become unresponsive. I did a hard reset (holding down the bower button). When the computer powered up again, it could no longer boot? It continuously restarts, but never makes it past the 'Lenovo'-logo. I have tried holding down f2, f12, f8, delete, and most combinations of these (including fn and alt). Putting in a boot-usb (win 10) does not have any effect, presumably because the computer never gets that far in the start-up process. During the night I let it keep restarting without a power cord in, to drain the batteries, in the hope that this would somehow reset it. That had no effect. I have also tried pressing the 'OKR' button with a paper clip. I can feel it click, but it doesn't solve anything either. I have also tried plugging in a USB-keyboard, and see if the f2,f12 etc had any effect there, but it seems it didn't.  Any there anything left to try?

Grettings. So, last year i bought this Ideapad Y700 Touch-15ISK gaming laptop and i really love it, just that i would like to make a small upgrade to it, like having a SSD (exclusively to load OS) and a HDD (to install games/software, etc), i just wonder if it's possible (if the hardware has the slot to do so). Also i was wondering if i can replace it's graphics card to a higher-tier one (it came with a GeForce GTX 960M, was thinking to get the GTX 980M), as i was thinking to assemble a gaming PC, i thought it would be easier to me to just upgrade my gaming laptop (and save a lot more money doing so) Thanks in advance

My ideapad laptop has had decreased battery life since the end of last summer.  I chalked it up to playing too many games for an extended period of time - leaving battery and AC adapter in for days (in hindsight, bad idea, but I didn't want to crack it open quite yet). After running some tests here and there, I figured probably the best thing to do was replace the battery.  I had previously had to replace the AC adapter for a very minor issue, but I bought the replacement from Lenovo.  I also bought a new replacement battery from Lenovo. Today is the first day I've placed the battery in the laptop (it's been boxed for a few months while I've been at college).  While there is a drastic increase in performance (the old battery would last maybe 45 minutes at BEST on power saver mode), I am still only getting maybe 1.5 on my new battery.  I've tried updating the battery driver.  I tried updating the BIOS, but I'm getting an error which says something along the lines of the rom is the same, leading me to believe my BIOS is already updated. I've tried calibrating the battery using this guide by howtogeek.  (edit)  I don't think it's very effective, as I still see sometimes the time suddenly drop or increases, no steady prediction of time, and the percentage seems to drop very quickly as soon as it is unplugged.  I am not sure when or if it levels off. Is this an issue with calibration or capacity?  I ha... So I'm planning on buying this model: Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK, but the one I'm looking to buy doesn't have an SSD and doesn't specify which ports are still available, only that it has a 1TB HDD. So I wanted to ask: 1. Does it have a free M.2 port? all models of the Y700-15ISK should have them, or am I wrong? 2. Which type of M.2 SSD does it support? M or B+M? I already sent the same questions to the retailer, but I am still waiting for an answer so thought I'd ask here as well.

Hello and welcome,

It may be that nothing is wrong.  You laptop may have an "always-on" USB port that can be used for charging external devices.

You might try using another port, or checking BIOS to see if there's an option to turn off that feature.

I'm having trouble finding documentation that addresses this, so the above is just a guess.

I recently bought a M.2 SSD and I want to use it as a cache drive. Intels RST requires AHCI mode, I was under the assumption that I was already in AHCI mode but my inability to create any raid volumes through the disk management or have my drives recognized by the RST app says otherwise. There is no option to change my mode from IDE to AHCI in BIOS due to it being locked. How can I work around this?

A:Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ISK how to put into AHCI

Look in the device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller, it should say Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller. For your second part of your question, you need at least 2 disk with unallocated areas to make a RAID array. But, saying that I would never setup a software RAID (ie windows) array and the BIOS doesnt support a hardware RAID

While playing GPU intensive games I had the feeling that the laptop does not reach its full capabilities.Even while using the recommended GPU settings by NVIDIA for the respective game, the games felt a bit sluggish. So I ran some benchmarks using the program Furmark. It looks like the laptop is programmed to throttle the GPU once the temperature reaches 65-67 C.Can this be possible? This kinda sucks. I didn't pay for high end hardware just to have it throttled by my system's BIOS or whatever causes this. Moreover the fans don't always seem to run at full capacity before the temperature throttling kicks in.It also does not seem possible to control or monitor the fan speed by a third party program like MSI Afterburner. If this is supposed to be a laptop for gamers it kind of missed the mark here.

Make sure you don't have any power saving features turned on, I know Lenovo has a bunch of Power Management software installed by default. Are you using "Power Saver" power plan in Windows by any chance? I can max out the overclock in Afterburner and game for hours on end at 1337 MHz core, so I'm not having any throttling issues. However I did do a clean install of Windows so I have no Lenovo software running on mine.

I doub't that it was me, who damaged a screen, because i'm really gentle, when using it.I bought a notebook at the beginning of this year. It is still on a warranty. I already tried send on a warranty to a serivce for repair ( i think, company is called MEDION (at least for lenovo devices bought in Poland), but they send it back, with a reason that "they couldn't achive same problem in their test enviroment" which is really strange, because problem appears everytime notebook is working. Any suggestion what i can do? Should i send it back again on the warranty, hoping that this time, they will be able to see a defect? What was the root cause of a problem? I don't won't to leave it like that, because notebook wasn't cheap, and except a screen issue, notebook is amazing. But it is really hard and annoying to use it like that.Attached screens, look at the bottom right corner. Orange shade is most intense in this place. But you can see it also, througthru all the bottom and right edge.??Thank you for any advices.

Hello,  I have the Y700 Touch-15ISK Laptop (ideapad) which I received as a replacement for my last Lenovo which could not be fixed by Lenovo Support.
