I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You have to purchase compatible RAM. Go to www.crucial.com, and allow it to scan your system to determine what options are available.

You can install Windows XP. I doubt it would run Vista well.

Ok...got one for you.

I have a customer's laptop in the shop. It had major software issues. (btw, have you ever seen where you select static ip and the ip and subnet lightnen up so you can type in them but then guess what? You can't! You can click all day and you'll never see a curser and you can't type a number or anything in the box. And yes..checked font color and stuff. I could type fine in any other network related box.)

But enough of that. (unless you can answer that one for future use.)

It had Windows ME on it..yuck! He told me if I was going to reformat and reload that he would rather just go back down to win98se. I agreed that it would be a better choice.

So I've loaded 98se found all the drivers on dells site. (btw....for sound you have to use the ME driver) I loaded the intel chipset driver. Everything working great. Until I put it in in the docking station. Windows said that it was doing a new configuration. Cool.... When everything got done and rebooted I have no mouse. No earaser pointer, no touch pad (it has both)...Ok....shut down try a mouse on the dock. Nope, mouse pointer still locked in dead center. I shut down, take the laptop out of the dock and restart and i have both my touchpad and earser pointer working fine. Before I ever put it in the dock, I did install Dell Dock which I thought was for the docking station. Do you think I have a bad dock or not the correct drivers? And yes it was acting flakey in the dock when we had ... Read more

Someone I know just recently gave me an Inspiron 8000 but he says the hard drive is messed up. I try to turn it on and it has the Dell loading screen, then the screen goes black, but then it just going back to the loading screen. It does that process over and over. The hard drive does make a suspicious clicking sound every time the screen goes black. The original OS was Windows ME but I'm not sure what it is now. Should I risk $60 (on newegg) and buy a new hard drive? What should I do?

A:Dell Inspiron 8000 problems

if it si merely the hard drive that is bad. ( and it definitely sounds like the HD is toast) you should get a boot up message about no boot device found etc.

try accessing the bios during boot up, if you can then replacing the hard drive should give you are workable laptop. if he didnt give you the dell xp disk your goiing to need a copy of windows.

i have a friend who has a Dell Inspiron 8000. I can't figure out where to put a wireless card. I do not see any slots for it. Does anyone know if a wireless card can be used with this model? I don't think it had built in wireless. Seemed to old for that.

Thanks for your help

A:Dell Inspiron 8000 Can it be wireless?

According to the specs of that Inspiron, it has two PC card slots on the side of the case....somewhere usually on the right side toward the back of the computer. And no, it's not wireless built in.

It could use a PCMCIA wireless card.

I have a Dell inspiron 8000 laptop that my friend gave me. The thing does not seem to want to power up at all. When i try to boot up the computer, all the lights go on, sounds like its about to boot up, then 5 seconds later, everything will just shut off.

Dont know if this info would cause this type of problem, but the screen is disconnected from the laptop since it was broken and i have it connected to a differnt monitor via monitor plug in the back of the laptop.

Tried booting the computer with/out battery as well. Tried removing all the parts and reseating all parts. Same. I was able to boot the laptop once after 100 tries, it ran for a day, tried to install win2k and then ended up shutting off on me again.

And recently i noticed the fan would spin and stop when i try to bootup as well.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

hi all,

i'm new to the site. I'm a young computer technician and i specialize more in desktop computers rather than laptops but i've been getting many laptops this days.

I got here a dell inspiron 8000; problem is that when powering on screen gets beige...is not white or gray but beige....theres no image there rather than that color....if i plug in a monitor i can perfectly see dell logo and etc there...but nothing on the laptop screen....i've checked the connections in the video card which is an ATi one, and there's no scratches or cuts or anything visibly damaged. i took the screen out and everything is connected, just that a yellow tape that sticks the video data cable to the back of the screen is slightly removed....as i know from the owner, he took it to another tecnician before for other problem, this guy screwed it up more returning it with the screen this way....anyway, i was wondering, is this screen damaged for good taking the fact that cables look good and that i have video in the monitor output? or could there be a problem with the ATi card connector? (doesn't look in bad shape either).

Thanks for any comment.

Hi everyone. I have a dell inspiron 8000. I have installed windows xp pro sp1 on it, but i can't find in Device Manager-Network device the 3com 10/100 card. For this reason, i can't use my lan connection. Can someone help me?

Thanks in advantage for any help.

A:Dell Inspiron 8000 Connection Problem

Hey Nelly,

i'm on my way out for today, but i can tell you this, check out for the inspiron 8000 specifications maybe on the manual if you have it or else, in the internet. I guess 8000s use 3com network cards(not completely sure), so what you need for get that card running is the driver software. If it is a common 3com you can find it here http://www.network-drivers.com/companies/294.htm or else, if it is not a 3com card check out the list at www.network-drivers.com for the right card brand you have.

This is first post, so please excuse any display of ignorance from me.

I know that the hard drive is bad. It will not let me boot up to try and recover data. Last resort is to send to a data recovery specialist.

If the drive is cool, it will try to boot, but it is looking for a corrupted file, "ntoskrnl.exe" in the \System32 dir (Win 2000 Pro). Is there a way I can transfer this file onto the drive?

I have tried to Repair with the Dell reinstall CD, it does not work. It hangs up during the checking C:\ drive portion. I tried it under the Console Recovery and same thing. Also tried the "fixboot"; it did not do anything for me.

Any Suggestions?

Your help is appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop and it has a strange problem. The pc will run for a few hours and then all of a sudden it starts to make a clicking noise and it will freeze and most of the time the old blue screen of death pops up. It it sits for a while it will boot up again without no problem. I bougth a used hard drive that I found very cheap on Ebay and that did not solve the problem. I think it is some kind of a power issue because I noticed that earlier I was using the same battery all of the time and it would last only a few minutes before crashing. After I swapped batteries it ran longer but still crashes after some time. I always have the power adapter connected as well because the batteries are old and do not last long at all. The fans run correctly so I don't think it is a fan problem. I cannot really tell where the clicking noise comes from. Has anyone seen this type of problem before with the Dell 8000 inspiron? Any suggestions?

u can try connecting an external monitor from a desktop if u have one or borrow one and see if that monitor shows anything without problems.it sounds to me that your monitor on the laptop has gone bad.. the led modules that light it up have gone bad or your video card might be bad.it could also be that the motherboard or hard drive is failing.usually if just the monitor is bad it should load up with no problems.hope this helps u.

Hello everyone,

Both the laptops Dell Inspiron 15R and Dell Inspiron 7548 came with 6 GB of RAM. I'd like to upgrade it to at least 12 GB by replacing the 2 GB dimms in both laptops with 8 GB dimms.

Was wondering whether it is safe and okay to combine different memory modules from different manufacturers.

I'm also leaving the US next week and so would prefer getting RAM that's more reliable and wouldn't mess up the laptops.

Could you guys please recommend which ones you'd get? I've bought Samsung and Crucial in the past and didn't have any issues.

Here's the existing RAM information from CPU–Z:

Inspiron 15R:

Inspiron 7548:

Based on the above information, could you please recommend the sticks that you would get, preferably from Amazon?

Dell's upgrade page for Inspiron 15R recommends this one:

Dell 8 GB Certified Replacement Memory Module for Select Dell Systems - 1600MHz LV SODIMM : Memory | Dell which is 1600 MHz.

So can I get this one for that laptop: Kingston Technology 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L (PC3-12800) 1.35V Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM Intel Laptop Memory KVR16LS11/8 at Amazon.com

This would match the manufacturer of the existing stick (Kingston).

Dell's upgrade page recommended the same stick for Dell Inspiron 7548 as well.

Since I wasn't able to locate Hyundai's 8GB stick, is it okay if I get Kingston or Crucial's stick:

Hello everyone,

Ok, my problem. My aunt bought me a dell inspiron 8000 for my birthday; she doesn´t know anything about computers but she's a great lady, i really apreciate this gift. She gave it to me and as i powered it on i saw the bios password screen. I started reading across this site about this password thing and decided to try that shorting method. I located the chip labeled 24WC02J on the board and proceeded to short 3rd and 6th pins...nothing...when i short and power on laptop goes off right after powering on. If i do the shorting pin by pin on 3rd and 6th using the paragon shorter with the 3rd pin it powers on but still that pass screen...with the 6th pin it goes off just after powering on. Maybe there´s some trick on the 6th leg....as far as i know 6th is the clock pin for the chip and 3rd is the A2 pin ( i guess is an input)... So i guess the shorting method won´t work for me...

I visited IdidMyC600 and the paragon site and also read the descriptive pdf at this sites...also took a look at the pictures and stuff at this sites....but i guess this thing wont work with the shorting methods...

So i was wondering if rustam could help me out...man i know you are really busy out there but if you just got a minute for me i'd... Read more

Just bought an Inspiron 5759 from Dell Canada.
Touchpad is very squirrelly - move around and it randomly perceives a click hence starts moving or invoking stuff.  Try to click left or right button (bottom left or right of touchpad) and the cursor moves so I can click on wrong thing easily.  Looked for Touchpad settings under Control Panel Mouse.  Nothing there specific to touchpad - just generic mouse settings.  Looked in Device Manager - Mouse and Pointing Devices - see HIID compliant mouse and PS2 compatible mouse.   Driver for either is from Microsoft dated 2006.
Ok - load newest driver from dell.com.  Claims it installs ok - wrong.  The Dev Mgr shows same Microsoft drivers.  Manually force driver to Synaptics - Dell TouchPad.  Looks like it succeeds.  Now, Dev Mgr shows two mouse devices: Dell Touchpad and PS2 Compatible mouse.  Try control panel - Mouse.  Now I see a Dell Touchpad tab but the only field - Change Dell Touchpad settings - does nothing.
Spent 6 hours trying to get help from Dell Support - worst experience with any support organisation (other than HP who managed to toast a notebook via remote control while trying to install a printer driver - never did work.)  Absolutely no improvement in situation.  Four times put on hold and line drops.  Considering strongly returning the notebook.
Went to BestBuy and looked at 8 Inspiron  and XPS computers on demo.  Not a sin... Read more

A:Inspiron and XPS laptops running Windows 10 cannot install Dell/Synaptics Touchpad driver

With Win 10, touchpad drivers are found in the Win 10 Settings, selected in the Start Menu. In addition, many newer laptops are using a Precision touchpad, a Microsoft inspired pad. The driver is incorporated in Windows itself, and a regular driver will not work. This is why you don't see anything in the "old" Windows Control Panel app or in the Device Manager.

A:Inspiron 8000 display dim

Hi mmann

It could be that the cable connecting the LCD to the laptop has gone bad and is opening up in certain positions. You could also try reseating the connector between the system board and the display. It could be making a bad contact. The same with the other connectors in the LCD display itself.

In June 2016 our company bought Inspiron 5759. I used it at office, we have air conditioning, nothing that could cause overheating or other problems. In the end of July 17 laptop just turned off and didnt react on any actions. I brought to service center and they told it's the hub located on the same board with CPU. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole board which costs around 600 USD because there's CPU Core i7 in it. I was given another laptop Inspiron 5558 which was not used since winter of 2017 because it had problems with WiFi. I tried to connect it with LAN cable and discovered that LAN is not working, in fact there's no LAN adapter in device manager. Service center said today that's the same problem - but this time hub is not completely broken, it's just doesnt see LAN adapter and periodically shuts down WiFi. The technician told that this is a frequent problem with Inspirons and Dell knows about it but doesnt recall laptops or extend warranty on this spare part. I asked when second laptop got the wifi issues - it started at the beginning of 2017 and warranty ended in December 2016. Again just 1-2 months.

So, it looks very strange that Dell laptops break right after ending of warranty with same problem, and we can't just change the hub, we need to buy a new board which includes CPU for 600 USD.

Hello everyone,
I just purchased a new Dell XPS 8000. I have been experiencing BSOD very frequently, usually couple times a day. I called their customer support, however they only ask me to run the diagnostic program which scans the hardware and concludes everything is fine. He also remote debugged my mini dumps and concludes it is a driver problem. However, updating to the newest driver does not solve the problem. I used sfc /scannow to scan the system, there is no integrity violation. So, is my problem caused by hardware? or software?

I found an old Dell Inspiron 530a in my house, it was stored because it didn’t work anymore, so I got in the job of restoring it. I found out the problem was the PSU, so I replaced it and it worked fine for about a week but 2 days ago, the computer froze for almost 2 hours, so I turned off the CPU. After that, the computer does not want to boot, I press the power button on the front of the PC, and it remains in an orange light, and in the inside, there is also another orange light in the Motherboard. The fans start very loudly and don’t stop until I unplug the CPU or I turn it off from the power button. I have tried these “solutions” for what I think is the problem:
Removing the Motherboard battery
Removing the RAM
Disconnecting the 24-pin from the motherboard
Disconnecting everything from the PSU
Switching the jumpers near the batteries
I don’t know what the problem might be, but I am almost sure that the PSU is not, since I bought it with a higher capacity than the original PSU and I have done the tests with a jumper in the 24-pin connector
The new PSU is a  “Coolmax V-500 Series 500W 120mm ATX Power Supply” and everything else are original Inspiron 530a parts.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me

It started happening in January 2011, and happens from 0 to 6 times a day.
On the next windows start, this message is shown (sorry, it's in Italian):

Seems like a BSoD happened, but I didn't see any blue screen.
Every Dell's diagnostics utility say everything is working alright.
After a Windows clean install, it seemed to stop happening for some days.

I did a google search on this error, and it seems related to the GPU, I did better testing on it.
I tried different nvidia drivers (266.58 and 263.11), but nothing resolved.
Sometimes it happens when I'm booting up my PC, but it mostly happens while I'm actively using it.
GPU is not overclocked and the freeze happens even when its temperature is really low. It didn... Read more

Hi all,
just bought a XPS8000 and will be using for amateur AVCHD video editing. So, I feel the Nvidia GTS240 may fall a little short.
What's the best bet...sould I install a 2gb, and if so which is suitable?

A:Dell XPS 8000 graphics card upgrade

Did you buy a used computer? XPS 8000 is from 7 years ago. The latest model is XPS 8900. Ditto for the GT240--neither the computer or the card would be suitable for video editing IMO.

I purchased a Dell Studio XPS 8000 sometime ago but when I tried to upgrade
the memory from 8GB to 16GB, I ran into some problems. First off, here are
the specifications of my PC, which will hopefully give more information for anyone
who is willing to help me troubleshoot my predicament:

Dell Studio XPS 8000
Chassis Serial Number: 5WWXML1
Running Windows 10 - 64 bit
Processor a Main Circuit Board b
2.80 gigahertz Intel Core i7 860
32 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
8192 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total)
Hyper-threaded (8 total)
Board: Dell Inc. 0X231R A01
Serial Number: ..CN736049BM0169
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Dell Inc. A03 12/21/2009
Chipset: Intel D131 rev 17
The original memory configuration that came
with my Dell Studio XPS 8000 is as follows:
'DIMM1' has 2048 MB (serial number F2E2172B) [Slot 3- Black]

'DIMM2' has 2048 MB (serial number F5E2172B) [Slot 1- White]

'DIMM3' has 2048 MB (serial number 02E3172B) [Slot 4-Black]

'DIMM4' has 2048 MB (serial number 06E3172B) [Slot 2- White]

I had a total of 8gb of memory.

I replaced it with Corsair (Vengeance) DDR3 8GB (2 x 4GB)
This was inserted into [Slots 1 & 2 White] with Slots 3 & 4 Black left empty. I had planned on buying another pack of Corsair (DDR3 8GB (2 x 4GB) if the 8GB worked, therefore bringing me to the maximum amount of 16GB of memory which is all the motherboard can handle accordin... Read more

A:Memory not detected in Bios - Dell Studio XPS 8000

As that model doesnt have diver support for windows 10, that may be part of the issue. That rig wasnt meant for w10, have you considered going back? That may help. I dont see a way to run that OS on that hardware. At least reliably.

Not a question, just an informational post. Recently bought a Dell Studio XPS 8000 from Best Buy. Love the computer, works great, but I've already added a hard drive, will be adding a Blu-Ray burner as a second optical and may add a TV tuner card. The stock 350W supply just seemed a bit puny so I swapped in a Corsair TX750W supply. It works fine.

I know that's overkill but Fry's had it on sale for $79.00, 30 bucks cheaper than the 650 I was going to buy.

The stock power supply is 140mm deep, this one is 160mm deep. Made for a tight fit but nothing had to be forced. Don't go larger than that though.
The Corsair has (4) PCI-E connectors, only one is needed in this PC so you have three extra cables to stash (none of the cables are detachable).
There are two SATA cables with four connectors each. Two hard drives and two optical drives can be run off one cable. Sweet. Leaves an extra cable to stash.
There are eight old style 4-pin connectors on two cables, so two more cables to stash.
The 8-pin EPS connector splits in two so it works for the 4-pin EPS on the mainboard.

Very quiet, I like it, but if I had to do it over again I'd likely go with something with detachable cables. The bundle of unused cables is large but fits in the space available where horizontally-mounted hard drives would normally be (the Dell has them mounted vertically).

I have the same problem - not as savvy as you. when you wrote From MSDN what do the dots mean?
I have new studio xps 8000 Dell desktop, windows 7, with 8GB or memory and 750GB of harddrive. I don't have much on it. Someone said it might be my internet explorer is corrupted. Totally confused. Any help appreciated. 4hal

A:Stack Overflow line 0 - Dell Studio XPS 8000

Hi -

Referenced thread --> http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...-a-514971.html

The dots in the MSDN URL? It is the way the system presents an elongated URL.

I would suggest the same as I posted in the other thread - Driver Verifier -

Is there anyway i could upgrade Dell Inspiron 15 7000  to Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming for extra bit of money?? i am looking to get better performance on gaming?
bought from: BEST BUY.
Has a warranty for hardware damage for:2 years

A:UPGRADE Dell Inspiron 15 7000 to Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming??

You'd need to sell the system and buy the new one.  The "extra bit" of money will likely be more than a bit, as used computers will sell for 30-50% of what they did new -- warranty or not.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I have both a 11-3147 and 11-3148. The initial release of Windows 10 seemed to function properly with the exception of some power settings not working properly all the time. (Won't sleep sometimes with lid closed ect..) After the last Windows 10 release in November the install went fine but upon the first restart they fail to make it past the post screen. The screen just goes blank. Repeated attempts to restart fail and then occasionally you can get it to boot windows. I've tried every available driver update, clean installs of Windows 10, re-installing 8.1 and re-upgrading to 10. The only thing I found to work 100% is to not install the 1511 build. I saw on another post it has to do with the touchpad drivers. Does anyone out there have any input regarding this?

Install Dell System Detect and let it scan your computers for updated drivers.

Insirion 8200

When turned on it says that the primary disc not found. Then it goes straight to a warning screen telling you to go to setup. Looking at bios set up, the HD and optical drives are "not installed". Through Dell's chat line they said that both the HD and cd unit were defective. I could see the HD , but the CD too? They said that a operating system has to be noticed in order for the computer to work. Without a HD wouldn't the machine go to a doss prompt anyway? I tried that by removing the HD

Dell wants $168 for a HD which is nuts because online I can get one much less. My question is about the CD unit. Has anyone ever seen those go too

A:who knows their Dell Laptops?

The laptop could never go to a "DOS prompt" without the HDD, as to do so would mean that it would have DOS (not the case with XP) and if it had DOS, it resides on the HDD anyway.

Optical drives are not always shown (detected) in BIOS, but the BIOS boot screen should indicate their detection at boot time.

A faulty HDD electronics would prevent it being seen, but a fault on the Dell motherboard IDE would prevent both from being seen.
